Now 3 San Francisco mayor london breed warning the city is preparing to announce new restrictions this week as coronavirus spreads rampantly thank you for joining us here on kron 4 news at 3 im tahernia during a press conference this afternoon mayor london breed and doctor colfax saying restrictions could be issued as early as tomorrow. Kron fours dan kerman joins us live from San Francisco with the concerning details. Dan. Well thats right things have gone from bad to worse as far as covid is concern here in the city in the last 10 days hospitalizations have more than doubled cases are 4 times what they were a month ago during an online briefing today both the mayor and the Health Director said changes are coming and they could come as soon as tomorrow. We are now in the most dangerous period. So this pandemic we need to do everything we can stay ahead of our hospitals, not being overrun this is about saving lives, everything were asking you to do on the coming weeks and months is about that we again are looking you seen a capacity of indoor. Indoor activities that certain institutions businesses. Further limiting the size of a group looking at travel quarantine orders and again those orders could be issued as early tomorrow. If some of those ideas sound familiar, its because that extra step has already been taken by Santa Clara County this would not be the first time San Francisco has followed in lockstep from Santa Clara County many think that San Francisco was doing the work the first to apply back in march it was not it was actually Santa Clara County that First Limited gatherings, San Francisco followed them now San Francisco in the position following the Health Orders of those decisions will be made later today possibly tomorrow in the days ahead, but Health Officials were definite about more restrictions are coming in San Francisco. The concern is hospitals will be overwhelmed. Thats what theyre trying to put a stop to. They want san franciscans to stay home as much as possible not to gather to wear their mask. Well have more on all of this coming up tonight on kron 4 news at 5 for now live at city hall Dan Kerman Kron 4 news. Thank you for that dan. And now to the south bay where the mayor of san jose is under heat for the outdoor thanksgiving dinner, he attended kron fours rob fladeboe is live in san jose with more on this story, rob. Right to some people might argue this tempest in a teapot others say that if nothing else. Its very bad optics and that the mayor of one of the largest cities in the United States ought to have known better but it indicates the mayor is apologizing at right now for his actions as take look at the video of this some file pictures, we have of mayor sam liccardo whos been one of the chief supporters of the effort to quash the coronavirus tweeting that people need to take more care. Whats happening here is the today apologizing for apparently violating the Health Orders with regard to thanksgiving. The attended thanksgiving dinner with his family in saratoga in violation state Health Guidance urged people not to attend big gatherings or any gatherings for that matter where members of more than 3 households were present in this case, the mayor has acknowledged that they were people here from 5 different households across his family but only 8 people attended so the mayor issued a statement here. This afternoon region pardon afloat 8 of us representing 5 households satter on 3 distinct tables on the back patio and we wore masks when not eating. The statement goes on to say several other family members stayed home. The mayor said that he understands that state regulations issued on november 3rd limit the number of households that private gatherings to 3. The mayor said, and i apologize for my decision gather contrary to state rules i understand my obligation as a public official to provide exemplary compliance with public Health Orders and certainly not to ignore them. I commit. To do better. Now there has been some criticism social media among those. Coming the mayors defense on this is one of his critics on the city council. They dont always agree on policy. But in this case councilman Johnny Khamis says the did the right thing by apologizing, but says he understands what happened. I think people should all do what they need to do to stay safe and you know, gathering with at least to the family members in your social bubble is safe last time i checked, you know i i i personally gather with my own immediate family and my sister and her daughter. And you know what quite frankly. You know our family is what makes us stronger social network, its really important because theres other issues besides our you know physical health theres a lot of Mental Health issues that are coming about because of you know the social distancing in and all of that takes a toll, especially in these times so i stand up for the right of people to gather in a way that they think is safe. And the mayor didnt to help his case by tweeting on the day before thanksgiving he said cases are spiking in part because we are letting our masks and our guard down with family and friends. Lets cancel the big gatherings focus on keeping each other safe. Course, the mayor is not the first public official to get into hot water over this you recall the infamous dinner party. At the French Laundry in napa attended a governor Gavin Newsome and then of course a couple of months speaker nancy i the shona getting your hair konta inside hair salon indoors in San Francisco at a time when hair salons were supposed to be doing that show again the mayor sam liccardo apologizing for this and said that he commits to do better. Still ahead at 3. 45 Many Americans still arent sure theyll get a Covid Vaccine when its available but you might not have a choice if as we get closer to getting a covid19 vaccine to the general public businesses and employers have to balance work place safety with personal rights. Jessica mensch explains as moderna and pfizer apply for covid19 vaccine approval, scientists see a light at the end of the tunnel. But some americans are still wary. A gallup poll released earlier this month shows 42 say they would not get a vaccine if workers want to remain employed, though they may not have a choice its going to be a tricky situation for employers like theyre going to be on the front lines getting these i would suspect leslie shakeups at Georgia School of law says employers can require their workers to get vaccinated with some limitations they would have to comply with the american with the americans with disabilities act which says that people who in fact had disabilities must be accommodating as well people can take vaccines. Then the employer would have to make reasonable accommodations workers could also get religious exemptions. But she says it will be a balancing act since employers are also required by california and federal law to provide a safe working environment, so accommodations would have to be made for anyone with an exemption to protect other employees. It may mean that they have to take a different it may mean that they have to wear a mask it may mean that their desks have to be somewhere else. She expects companies will start by strongly encouraging their workers to get vaccines potentially even offering incentives fun and it becomes necessary. She says much of the policy will be worked out in the courts. They could face legal challenges if for example they require vaccination and someone i get an explanation and it doesnt sit well with on the other hand his legal challenges if they dont require vaccinations. And people get sick. Jessica mensch fox 40 news. And as some health news, a new study is showing differences between men and women receiving heart treatment.
