Experiencing of the week conditions that were bracing for on sunday and so that is obviously in our favor right now. I know that if this fire started on sunday night things would be vastly different we talk all the time daniel give us some perspective i know all red flag warnings are not created equal how bad it is this one thats coming sunday night monday. Well we definitely dont want to sound like a broken record as we have been in and out of red flag for the last several last several weeks and really the last several months this wind event that we are expecting to see on sunday will bring a extremely strong winds winds that we have not really experience this fire season in fact the last time we saw winds this magnitude and this widespread really in the 2017 and north bay fires so when the tubbs fire yeah was fires burning in sonoma and napa counties and we know how destructive those result so yeah, definitely its been a destructive year definitely bracing for what could be the strongest winds yet yet daniel we are hearing that this is not just in the north bay, this is a very widespread wind event. Im im trusting that are able to throw everything at it if a if a fire were to start. You know we are increasing our stacking across northern california, a preposition resources even movies our from Southern California to northern california. So Additional Firefighters Additional Fire equipment working with our local partners who as well our preposition our resources out because the key here is going to be aggressive initial attack at a new fire breaks out under these conditions, we know its got to grow very rapidly and so were going to throw everything we have at to work hard to stop these types of under these conditions from growing so quickly. People have you know trees in one eye may be close to their houses you cant really create Defensible Space in a day or 2 but is there one or 2 tips the might have for folks ways they can. And a last minute kind to improve their chances if you will should something horrible happened sunday or monday. Well were expecting lighter winds so its a perfect day to get if you have any better your gutters dead vegetation trying to clear it cleared dont use power that is often the start of these type of wildfire. If you have a motor or use your weed trimmer this is probably not the time period to do it. However we also really urging everyone be prepared, especially to evacuate even those who dont live necessarily in these rural areas that are t for wildfires even if youre a mile away from grasslands you should be prepared evacuate so make sure youre taking the time identifying the things that you need if you are required to not take your valuable items Important Documents birth anything that is a memorabilia identifying out put it in one location is what a wildfire strikes, especially that occurs at night we were expecting its actually expected the strongest of the winds overnight youre not going to have time to get out of those things so identifying now putting aside now youre ready to go for wildfire breaks out ok so were not being alarmist when we say and i have your go bag ready. In the off chance and lets. Critical reminder for all of us to be prepared again even those who may live in a subdivision as weve seen these can sent embers a mile ahead of itself so even though you may not live right in the wild land areas. Those embers can travel and jobs highways as we saw in that house fire jumped highway one o one burning into the air really not a high risk of fires but still doing significant damage so really everyone should be prepared and really everybody outdoors should heed caution so that you can prevent sparking a wildfire the coffey park 2017 yeah, thanks for the elimination Daniel Berlant from cal fire well be checking back with you for sure thanks daniel. Well the flames from the pope fire that were just talking about along lower Chiles Valley road and chiles pope valley road here the map shows the area where its been burning in the saint helene region, our Team Coverage continues tonight kron fours dan thorn live for with some of the progress thats being made. Hi dan. Thats right baking grant as you mentioned high wind event has even happened but firefighters around here tonight battling whats being called the pope fire the flames breaking out this afternoon just east of saint helene and north east of lake hennessy if you take a look at this video from earlier it actually shows a time lapse of when this fire first started around 4 oclock this afternoon in the area of lower Chiles Valley road and pope valley road during those Daylight Hours air crews were helping out the ground crews in getting a handle on this fire. But tonight. Crews were still seen fighting the fire in this grassy okey steep terrain extinguishing any hot spots is dozers up were also out there cutting the fire off from a burning up any more fuel and the any of that dry grass cal fire says that so far almost 70 acres have burned in this fire, but they have been making some pretty good progress. Several units from across the north throughout this area have been helping out in this fire but as those crews are continuing to work out here tonight to get that containment there are still road closures and those have been happening chiles pope valley road between pope canyon road and also lower Chiles Valley it does not appear at this time that any homes or have been threatened by this fire. There also hasnt been any sort of an evacuation orders. We did see that in the areas where the fire was sort of getting mocked up and crews are out there working there were some vineyards in that area, but it did not appear again that there are any homes or anything. Or any structures that were burned or were in this fire right now crews still working on getting containment and theres an investigation thats going to be continue into how this fire started thats the latest here live in napa county dan thorn kron 4 news. Thank you dan our Team Coverage continues tonight want to go to chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow. Hey guys yeah weve been tracking the wind conditions in and around the fire right now that started this afternoon certainly didnt want to see that happen. But you can see the winds now fairly light. So thats going to give firefighters a chance to hopefully get a handle on that fire because if this is going while this active fire active winds kick in this could be a very very dangerous situation as we get into sunday night and monday right now you can see the winds fairly light out there at 11 miles an hour this afternoon we had some winds blowing out of the westnorthwest at 18 miles per hour. So it is calm down just a little bit is forcing the fire toward the east. But you notice of the wind switched directions come out of the north and northeast again you can see saying alina you see the napa valley again so certainly dangerous conditions if they do not put this fire out over the weekend. All right. Weve got red flag warnings up not just for the mountaintops it is all for the entire bay area as we get into sunday and monday as were going to see extreme fire conditions on like we usually see this going to likely be the strongest wind event of the year and maybe for the last few years as if we get a fire started maybe 4050 mile an hour gusts over the mountain tops 10 to a 20 relative humidity and even drier in some parts of the bay area. So yeah, the winds are looking like this so far we get a little westerly component little moisture going to be coming in off the pacific youre so tomorrow does look bad kind of just a gentle breeze to begin with by the afternoon the winds do pick up again its a westerly wind. So not really a big fire concern now that begins to change as we get into sunday, you see the colors begin to move in to the north bay starting by sunday afternoon you see read some purple beginning to show up gusts of 3040 miles an hour. And then all of that just comes pouring into the bay area as we head in toward late sunday night and monday morning you can see all the colors even near the coastline. This is some kind of unusual event we could see some of those gusts of 5060 miles an hour maybe even 70 over some of the highest mountain tops were talking about a fire under these kind of conditions were not talking about just one of those general fires of moves along slowly were talking about the potential for a firestorm if a fire does get started. Take a deep breath, yes, thank you lawrence got lawrence. To the latest on p gs potential power shut offs again. Customers should expect to lose their power starting sunday afternoon, yes, some of them then then some later on on sunday kron fours gayle ong joins us live in orinda with details on how people are. A high wind event in critical fire weather are expected sunday winds Strong Enough to blow down trees and power lines on already dry vegetation again. Thats my reaction again doreen wrote plans to stay home in orinda but is not happy about the situation, its. Inconceivable to me that. A company like pg any has been allowed to go on neglecting the infrastructure for so long that now every time the wind blows they have to turn the power off residents are advised to plan ahead by preparing an emergency kit with flashlights extra batteries and storing water and nonperishable food we to go bag that is packed and ready to go all the time brown was a member of a Firewise Community that helps create Defensible Space in the neighborhood to become more resistant to wildfire damage. I will be at home. But my husband whos been working from home will be going into oakland to the office and ill be at home, you know hoping that. That we dont catch on fire. If the city of her inexperience psps the library will have a generator available for people to charge their phones and electronics this again should some time happened sunday afternoon. Obviously a lot of people are going to be on edge this weekend armed forces chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow here let us in on what were were facing this weekend. Yeah weve talked about the fire danger but trees coming down limbs coming down power lines coming down a real likelihood with this kind of wind event. You can see it up on the screen here is that its going to really start developing here over the next 24 hours today, more of a sea breezes kicked in has been fairly gentle but this almost like a textbook pattern system that started developing got low pressure to our north you got High Pressure off the coastline watch what happens here will put it into motion the forecast that low begins to head the east and all of a sudden High Pressure building in behind it you can see these white lines. These are the iso bars, their lines of equal pressure the tiger theyre packed together the stronger the winds and you can see as we get the weekend they are packed very tightly in the california were going to see impressive winds around the bay area maybe some 50 plus mile hour winds, maybe 60 to 70 over some of the mountain top so certainly a concern that will likely bring down some trees weve got a high wind watch the posted for almost the entire bay area those winds will be blustery this going to come a warning as we head in toward tomorrow and then looks like this will set up specially on saturday on sunday night into monday morning that will be the peak of the wind gusts.
