And please help out thats all we want we want people half first we want hard for our faces. Were back to you. New york nurses say they still do not have the supplies they need to face the coronavirus pandemic today workers rallied outside of the Westchester Medical Center just north of new york city. Theyre calling for more masks and other personal protective equipment. The nurses also say theyre understaffed anymore ventilators for the large number of patients with covid19. Today new york reported nearly 800 new deaths as the total number of coronavirus test in the state has now passed 7,000. There have been over 160,000 confirmed cases. More than the entire country of italy. A small sign of relief for new york state though is that less people are going to the hospital today Governor Andrew Cuomo said there have been only 200 new hospitalizations of the last 24 hours. The lowest number since this crisis began. But the law also made it clear that his state is not out of the woods yet. Remember. The 1918 spanish flu. Came in 3 waves. Where on the first weight. Everybody is assuming well once we get through this weird and i wouldnt be so quick to assume. This virus has been ahead of us from day one weve underestimated the enemy and that is always dangerous my friends and we should not do that again. Deadly days in the battle with covid19 are projected in the coming days officials expect to see peaks and both the death toll and the demand for hospital resources coming this weekend. So emerging hot spots like baltimore, philadelphia and washington dc are escalating their preparations. And speaking of our Nations Capital today Senate Republicans tried to pass an emergency bill to inject 250 billion more dollars into the Paycheck Protection Program with most lawmaker shelteringinplace at home around the country. The bill needs unanimous consent to pass but democrats objected saying the program has not run out of money just yet. And there are many other issues that need immediate attention. Our washington correspondent Morgan Wright has the very latest. Wednesday Senate Democrats like marylands ben cardin block Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnells request for additional money for Small Businesses my colleagues must not treat working americans as political hostages, this unanimous consent is basically a political stunt. The senate has approved billion for Small Business relief during this pandemic but mcconnell says they need more funding and they need it fast were not talking about making any policy changes were literally changing the number 350 to 600 but democrats say any new relief bill needs to go further and include support for groups that were left out of the previous relief else we know we need more money for this program, many of us predicted this before we passed the cares act. But for goodness sakes lets take the opportunity to make some bipartisan fixes whatever the Senate Passes must also pass in the democratic controlled house, new york congressman Anthony Brindisi were all in favor warm funding for Small Businesses. We also have to focus too on hospitals as well as state and local governments negotiations are expected to continue behind the scenes until monday. Leader mcconnell says that will be lawmakers last chance to easily and jack more money into the business community. Reporting in washington, im Morgan Wright. Tonight were learning more about a sailor from the uss Theodore Roosevelt who tested positive for coronavirus and was later found unresponsive. This happened on march 30th, but the navy is only now just sharing these details with the public. The sailor was admitted to an intensive care unit and guam and there had been no further updates on his condition. More than 400 of roosevelt sailors have tested positive for coronavirus and officials with the pentagon warned this could happen to any shift in the military. Its. Not a good idea to think that the Teddy Roosevelt as a one of a kind issue. We have too many ships at sea we have too many deport capabilities, theres 5,000 sailors on a a Nuclear PoweredAircraft Carrier to think that it will never happen again as a theres not a good way to plan. This particular covid19 outbreak has been the center of controversy. The ships captain and santa rosa native. Brett crozier lost his position after a memo he wrote pleading for help was made public. Then the former acting Navy Secretary thomas, modly who made the decision to dismiss crozier travel to guam to speak to the ships crew and tonight were learning that modis trip to guam costs nearly a quarter of a million dollars. He flew there in a modified gulfstream an aircraft which costs about 7,000 an hour to fly. His trip was intended to address his decision to remove the ships captain in his remarks to the crew over a loudspeaker mobley called crozier stupid and naive. Those comments proved controversial and mostly resigned a day after his very expensive trip. Lets switch things up and talk about our 4 zone forecast as we take a live look outside right now here in San Francisco across the bay bridge and into the east bay blue skies out there and some drizzle could be on the way for tonight so lets check in with our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow working from home to track the weather for us him lawrence. Yeah hey there just the we are seeing some of that patchy fog and of course some mid to high level clouds cool things going on the atmosphere outside right now looking out over alcatraz back towards San Francisco. We do see some of those clouds continue to move on by tonight, well get to see those fill in as we head through the night as well so that fog in a surge back on shore. So far really has been all about that area of low pressure in Southern California that same low that moved through the bay area but you see the circulation. All that moisture wrapping around that area of low pressure even some that coming back in the bay area some more snow piling up in the Sierra Nevada and some heavy rainfall moving into Southern California, some snow over the mountains there and you see some heavier bands about to move on shore theyre going to get pelted by some more heavy rain so theyre going to see the bulk of the rain now were just seeing the clouds passing by certainly a chance of a couple sprinkles tonight with some a light drizzle along the coastline. But i think weve got some brighter days ahead, so tonight, mostly cloudy couple patches of drizzle tomorrow, mister sunshine and cloud the warming trend begins and the fog and sunshine for the weekend, but the temperatures are going to be warming up High Pressure looks like its going to start takeovers that area of low pressure finally begins the kick to the south and the east and that will move out here the next couple days in that big age. Its going to settle in right overhead. That means weve got more sunshine coming our way and some warmer temperatures too. Still dealing with low clouds and so far you can see him right there as we head in toward tomorrow morning as we head by the afternoon youll find lots of sunshine inside the bay fog continue along the coastline temperatures dont want to be warming up near 70 degrees the warm spots inland and then 50s along the coastline next couple days here we go as we head into the Holiday Weekend temperatures up in the 70s, the warmer spots that split forecast back to you just. It is holy week for christians across the globe for the last few years years, pope francis spent holy thursday, washing the feet of prisoners, but this year social distancing restrictions put a halt to many of the traditions, the pope delivered his last supper mass to an empty basilica today. The lockdowns have prevented almost all travel and congregating in italy leaving saint Peters Square empty. And some startling news out of italy today, the official number of recorded deaths from coronavirus past 18,000.
