We are raising money for the victims in the north bay firestorm. grant pam moore and steve aveson are in the newsroom where the phone lines are open and calls are coming in. Steve, lets check in with you. Remember that phone number, 415 5618063. I love it. Here is a challenge out there. I just heard pam. From a fellow by the name of tony frederico. Tony went to one of the three traditionally male catholic schools. They are not allmale anymore. He said he is going to donate 50. He is challenging guys from sacred heart, saint ignatius, and the students who graduated from those schools to donate. Tony is leading the way. We appreciate that. Thank you. Those challenges really do kickstart. It is a little competition. I know. They are certainly in the spirit right there. Where are we right now on the board . Right now it is 162,000. During the Hurricane Harvey relief effort that we did with the Salvation Army, we raised 140,000 dollars so we are ready 140,000 so we already surpassed that with your kindness. We cannot say it enough, 100 will go to the north bay fire victims. This is not money that goes to the administration for the Salvation Army, this goes to help people. And we have a new total. All right, stanley. Sounds good. We have to bring the spells. Stephen, is your mike okay . Can you hear me . Come on cindy. Tell us how things are going tonight. Its great. People are really reaching down. We have had Great Stories of people who were able to give a lot and are telling us why and supporting the financial the Salvation Army. We have had Young Children coming to the phone and emptying their piggy banks and giving right along with their parents. We appreciate everybodys support for the Salvation Army to help people during the time of a local disaster. The Salvation Army took a big hit in trying to help when this all first happened. When the fires broke out, the Salvation Army was there within hours setting up our mobile kitchens and our Service Center in santa rosa and moving out to napa. We provide the service knowing that the community will come behind us and fill in the financial gaps as the days go on. To give a little perspective, i know that every year the Salvation Army feeds 900,000 meals a year. That is 75,000 meals a month. In the two weeks of the fire, 100,000 meals right then. That is enormous. Thats right. A few of the stations have closed down other people are able to get back into their homes. We are still serving hot meals. Still giving out cleanup services. Helping people get into rental facilities and providing lost income for those who lost their homes or their place of business. A lot of people have been given clothing for their kids. They have been given staples to get themselves started. I also know the Salvation Army has given 100,000 in gift cards. It is not a gift card to have a good time, this is so you can buy things for your family that you really need. Whether it is home depot or target or anywhere else. Thats right. People left their homes with their minimum notice. They grabbed a few things and ran out the door. Now the gift of a gift card helps them go to a local retailer and purchase clothing that fits their kids and the items that they needs to continue their lives in a temporary setting for the next few weeks. We learned from a lieutenant colonel, she has been doing this for over 32 years. Give me a perspective. When we raised the money for Hurricane Harvey, a lot of people called in. Is the accountability close to 100 . People promise to give and then they do it . Many people will be watching the broadcast. They will mail in a check tomorrow or they will go online. We raise more money than what we will notice tonight and we appreciate every cent of it. We sure do. Thats right. You know all of us on the air, we certainly appreciate that. This is our executive producer on the nightside. You are really pumped up about this. Absolutely. Everyone in the bay area knows someone that was impacted by these fires. It is our duty to help each other out. We are so excited about this. Lets read off some donations. Beverly donated 500. Thank you, beverly. We have 1000 from San Francisco every little bit helps. Marissa from oakland, thank you for 25. Zach give us 25. Weve got sophie and nicole from oakland, 100. Thank you so much. It does not say, gary must be keeping that. Christie and from palo alto christie from palo alto donated 100. Edna, 50. And frank young, 100. Thank you. Steve, back to you. Come on over here. First of all, thank you. All of the phones are currently occupied. A couple of people have called just recently and said they had to wait 10 or 15 minutes. The phones were a little bit quiet between seven and eight. We took a bit of a break. It has gotten very intense right now. Please be patient. These people do a two minute turnaround. They will take your phone call and get you on and off within two minutes. Be persistent. We are so grateful. We will take a break and take more calls. They have been raising calls right and left. We will take a little bit of a break. We will take you out to santa rosa where a supermarket opened its doors today after being closed down since those fires. A supermarket in fountain grove, one of the hardest areas. We spoke with customers. They must have been so happy to get back to their neighborhood store. Reporter they say they are very happy to have their local supermarket again. They tell me it brings some normalcy back to the area that has been devastated by the fires. We saw how much of that neighborhood was burned absolutely to the ground. The supermarket itself was spared. On wednesday of this week, there was a small electrical fire inside the store. It broke out in one of its deli cases. A passerby noticed smoke and called 911. That fire damaged some groceries. You can still smell some of the smoke in there. It looks like the business is back and running. We spoke with some customers and employees who say slowly but surely, things are getting back to normal. I am happy it is open. I am really happy. It is okay. There are people in here. It is convenient and family oriented and they are always more than willing to help you find your groceries. I have worked here a little over five months and it is really great to see families coming in. It is really exciting to see everyone happy that the store is open. It definitely made the community a lot stronger. The people are nicer. It is convenient. Thankfully my neighborhood was not touched. This is like the closest luckys and i have always liked luckys. I am glad it is back and i hope it stays. The Silver Lining is that people really came together during this time to help each other out. Coming up at 10, we will hear from a family that not only lost their home, but also their business. It is a story you will only see on kron 4 and you do not want to miss it. Inc. You. A sense of normalcy, what a relief. Call the phone number on your screen to donate. 4155618063. We will be right back. Accused of obstructing justice to theat the fbinuclear war, and of violating the constitution by taking money from foreign governments and threatening to shut down news organizations that report the truth. If that isnt a case for impeaching and removing a dangerous president , then what has our government become . Im tom steyer, and like you, im a citizen who knows its up to us to do something. Its why im funding this effort to raise our voices together and demand that elected officials take a stand on impeachment. A Republican Congress once impeached a president for far less. Yet today people in congress and his own administration know that this president is a clear and present danger whos mentally unstable and armed with nuclear weapons. And they do nothing. Join us and tell your member of congress that they have a moral responsibility to stop doing whats political and start doing whats right. Our country depends on it. That is 33 years of my life right there in a pile of ash. Welcome back to our continuing trend five. We are raising money all evening as we look at some of the destruction. Some of the reasons why this relief is so badly needed, i was up in the neighborhood of santa rosa right after the firestorm. To see it in person, it takes your breath away. It is some of the most drastic destruction that you can imagine. You do a 360 and in every direction for blocks and blocks , nothing is left. Just some structures, chimneys. Maybe a washing machine. Burned out cars. You have no idea what kind of car it is. The help is certainly needed and we are happy to do a small part with the Salvation Army. That is the number, 415561 8063. I want to make a point here, florence, we have gary here. The great florence pardini, we had a nice conversation and she asked where is your wife. She is off tonight, but i did not get florences phone number. Florence, if you can call back and give us your number, you are making a nice contribution. We need you to call back or i will receive a demerit for not getting your number. Please call us back. And you will get peoples numbers from now on . I am one for 50. I made one mistake and that is all they remember. Then they tell pam and there is all kinds of trouble. All the contributions are going to go to the city. The only time we will take a little off the top is if steve needs a new blazer. I am just shocked at how many people are calling, 100, 200. Everybody is stretched. With all the Different Things that have gone wrong in the country this year, this is not, i am just shocked. The cool thing is, a lot of people are giving five or 10 or 20. If that is what you can do, that adds up to. I know sometimes when i am watching these things, i hate the guy on tv admonishing people. Whatever youve got in your pocket, that is more than enough and more than appreciated. If you can give it a month or two, the important thing i think is that all this money goes to help people. It is not to pay the ceo or whatever. The best i can tell you is a lot of these charities, you read these Horror Stories and everybody skims in. Believe me, i have seen the way people dress around here. We are not in close for any kron 4 employees. No neckties for me. Every penny is going to the people who need it up and santa rosa. Again, florence pardini, call me back. Keep pam off my back for not getting your number. You have somebody on the line there. Are you still there . Oh, its carol. Thats good enough. Carol, you held on for so long. What are you doing after the telephone . Are you hungry . We will go out for a bite to eat. You sort out your after dinner do you have the tv on . Do you have the television on right now . You are being recorded here. Have you paid all your traffic tickets, carol . Because stan has a new segment called people who donate behaving badly. So even if you are donating 500 , stan will come to your house and find fault with you. Its a good deal. Thank you for that. I am here with caroline. She is a captain with the Salvation Army. Why do you volunteer . I love the Salvation Army. I grew up in the Salvation Army. I see what we do every day, loving people and serving people. When the chips are down, when the actual disaster hits, the Salvation Army is the first one on the ground. They put their heads down and they serve those who are serving others. They also serve the families that are needed in need. We hope that people know and feel they can rely on the Salvation Army. Lets talk to alma who is on the line. You are donating 150. You live in brentwood. Tell us why you wanted to donate. My cats were really jealous because they heard about the dogs donating. They wanted to donate also. I see. This is a competition. Stanley, you are involved. Tell me. One lady, her dogs donated 50 each. So alma, her cats got jealous, each cat donated five dollars each and then the parents donated 50 each. 150. Thank you so much from brentwood. Thank you. Thanks to all of you for calling. Remember the number, 415561 8063. Grant, lets get back to you. We need to get a quick break in right now. Here is the latest tally. We are north of 165,000. We will get to two by the end of the night. If you cannot call the number right now, keep trying. There are a lot of people on the horn. And kron4. Com is also a place where you can donate. We will take a short timeout. North from the north bay fire fundraiser after this. Welcome back. We are at the north bay fire fundraiser. So far we have a new number on the board. It is all about numbers. At least nine dollars of that is coming from gary radnich. He is yelling at people. Want to get that number up a little bit higher. Steve aveson has promised, his other job that he had before he was a news anchor was in the circus. I will not stop juggling until we get to 175,000. People may not know this, but you do have a talent for judgment juggling. Im not going to stop juggling. Even through the commercial. Whatever it is. 175, that is your goal . Yes. Please do it fast because i do get tired. I will try my very best not to drop them. If i drop them, i will pick them up. I do not want to put the microphone in front of you. I dont want you to drop them. We are going to keep this here. You keep juggling. The funds keep ringing. If it goes to the commercial, i will still be here. We are not going to sit here and watch you juggle for the next 10 minutes. We will go talk to some people over here. Stanley, i dont know what youve got going on. Who do you have on the line . How old are you, young man . You learned a good lesson tonight. You are helping people. You have one in the bank for your folks. Next time you bring home a d in school, you say but mom, remember when i contributed 20 . All these pearls of wisdom just come free. This young man is watching. How old are you . Put him on speakerphone. You are 11. You are right in the demographic we want. In tv we like young people who will go out and spend it frivolously. Tell your mom and dad you love kron 4. If you turn it on now, there is a man juggling. [ laughter ] is this young man donating to the north bay fire fundraiser . He is. Im shocked how many people are doing this. Okay. You take your notes because this is what is important. An 11yearold young man is donating to our neighbors to the north. Pam, you are going to the board. Are you going to up that number . Steve is juggling. [ indiscernible mulitple speakers ] okay. 176 . 166. No, thats going down. Wait a second. [ indiscernible mulitple speakers ] all right. Okay. How much are they going to donate . We love neck. What high school did you go to, sir . Okay, marin catholic. Vicki is going to put you on speakerphone. Nick, is that you . Im trying to have a conversation. Its all business here. How is lefty otoole doing . We will reopen. What is your challenge, sir . 100 for me and 100 for anybody from our High School Class of 1960. I will match it. That is very nice of you. You had a landmark there. I hope you get it back. They are charging all the restaurants for rent is making it hard for everybody. You battled back and we will get on and leave for you. So 100 for him and you will match everybody from your class. Marin catholic. Okay, we will hold you to it. Ladies and gentlemen, steve has not stopped juggling. Please. [ laughter ] i think we might need to go to break at this point. We will be back. Steve will keep going. We will have a new number. Okay, First Responders at the north bay firestorm that ravaged so many peoples lives. We are here trying to raise money. Our kron 4 fundraiser in conjunction with the Salvation Army. Steve aveson has been juggling these balls, he set up the challenge for 175,000. We are so close. Ladies and gentlemen, poor steve aveson. His arms are about to fall off. You get the point. We have about 700 30 about 730 to go and steve will stop juggling. Anything. Get me to stop. Stanley got a phone call in the meantime. Somebody called and told me to shave. I said okay. For 300,000. If we get to 300,000 i will shave on air. Im not sure that is going to be something you will actually want to record. Somebody wants you to shave for 300,000 . Okay. Stanley will shave. I will use a dull razor. Do we have a new number . We have 500 to go and steve aveson can stop juggling. Please donate 500. Im sure this is very annoying to somebody. The phone lines are ringing. I think gary may have the 500 that he is talking the guys ear off. [ indiscernible mulitple speakers ] we were having a conversation and florence was going to donate 100 and then i forgot to get her phone number so i said call me back and she said during our second conversation, i will make it 500. Says she has made the 500 . [ laughter ] she saved the day. She got the 500. Steve, that takes us to the top. We are at 175,000. Florence will make it 600 if you stop juggling. [ laughter ] thanks to florence, you saved your arms. All right. As we recalibrate the numbers here, we want to thank florence and all of the people that have been contributing tonight. In the meantime lets go ahead and go to spencer blake. He is life. Reporter sorry you guys, i dont know how to juggle. I have tried it before, but i will never be as good as steve aveson. Inc. You to everyone who let him get a rest. I was talking to some other people today who are also raising money for north bay firestorm victims. It is a group called rebuild wine country. I spoke with a couple of volunteers. They are kind of the marketing and fundraising arm that is helping out with habitat for humanity. Basically these people are thinking longterm. They want to get people into rebuild homes. Here is what theyre trying to do. Those who lost their homes, they want people to know that if you lost your home, you can get help from habitat for humanity. This is not just for low income families like you might normally think. Habitat for humanity can also help with Disaster Relief as well. That includes building new homes. People who fit that category, if you lost your home in the north bay, you can fill out a form to see if you qualify for assistance from habitat for humanity. It has uwxubeen a very emotiona ride for those volunteers. Many of themkzlrthemselves live the north bay. In those early days, the early half day, thinking about how to supportcw6cip5c÷ what w longterm need. We knew that there would be lots of donations. We were already seeing them pile up at the emergency centers. Thinking about how to rebuild and build that community. Reporter even if you dont think you qualify for habitat for humanity, even if you already have gotten money from your insurance company, it does not matter. Go ahead and apply online. See if you qualify for that kind of help. They are trying to raise 5 million, which would go to habitat for humanity. That is enough to build 50 new homes from the ground up in the north bay. These are various counties. Napa, mendocino, and 100 of the money they raise through rebuild wine country goes to habitat for humanity so they can rebuild. Thank you, spencer. Great volunteers for sure. Melissa is on the phone. Justin was on the phone but alerted me to a guy who called in. We have you on speakerphone here. It is eric and he is from san rafael. You want to issue a challenge . Yes. I would like to challenge all my fellow local members of the united Workers Commercial Union , retail clerks. All the supermarkets in marine county. Donate 100 and help out all the people who lost their homes. So eric, you will be pledging 100 and you are urging all of your local mates to do the same . Thats correct. Think you for that contribution. That is the kind of thing that we are seeing over and over. Thank you very much. Hang on just a moment. Justin will get your info. 100 bucks from him, 10 bucks from someone else. It is adding up. The number that we have reached now is north of 175,000. That is a great number. We were here this morning and we will be here throughout the night. By the way, if you would like to donate, 4155618063. We will take a quick break. More from our fundraiser after this. Welcome back to our fundraiser. You had so many calls. I have not seen you with the phone far from your ear. Nonstop. Its a good thing. The latest call you took, she is in San Francisco. Can you hear us . Yes. You just made such a generous donation. What compelled you to do that . We had a fundraiser a couple of weeks ago. We decided to donate. The name of my wine bar is bodega. Thank you very much. Where did your friend live that lost her home . [ indiscernible ] where are they living now . They rented a house so they are living in an apartment for now until they figure it out. Thank you for sharing that story. It really shows why so many people need so much help. What makes you volunteer . I know the system does not work if there are no volunteers. I am actually the volunteer manager for the Salvation Army in San Francisco. I figure if i want other people to volunteer, i should give my time to. Thank you. Melissa, we are staying on. We do not have to be coy about this. We are staying on until 11 pm. They are playing the music. They are playing the music. Can we do this after the break . Its big . All right. We have to get this quick break in. Big news with vicki right after this. It all started when sophia stopped into marshalls and found a mug for surprisingly little green. She paired that with some succulents. And suddenly something clicked. That surprise led to a stylish wood mirror, soothing lavender oils, a party llama. Or is that an alpaca . Super soft towels, and an enchanting vase that magically tied it all together. She arranged it all into the greatest guest bathroom ever. Did sophia expect to get so much bang for so few bucks . No. But great things happen when you choose surprise. Marshalls. Your surprise is waiting. Okay. Welcome back to the kron 4 telethon. We are raising money for the north bay firestorm victims. I have to put my glasses on because i am not believing the numbers i am seeing here. Colonel cindy is talking to a gentleman. His name is harry. Can we put harry on speakerphone . Harry, you are with us live on kron 4. We just want to make sure that i am reading the numbers correctly here. You are donating how much, sir . 20,000. Did i hear that correctly . 20,000 . Harry, that is a very generous gift that you are providing to the folks. Can i ask you, where is all this generosity coming from . Were you particularly struck by anything . [ indiscernible ] are you from the santa rosa area . I live up there. You have neighbors and you know people that got burned out . My neighbors [ indiscernible ] it must have hit you pretty hard to see people suffer that way. This is a very generous gift. You are going to help quite a few people. I know colonel cindy right here is taking the information from you. She is going to finish up with the paperwork because we want to make sure that that money gets to the people who need it the most. Thank you, harry. Okay. Thank you. Bless you. Well, i guess my eyes were not pulling me. 20,000. Harry feels it is especially close to him because of where he lives and the people around him who lost their homes. He is doing what he can to help his neighbors. We are getting calls from people actually in the burns on. We have people calling from all over the bay area and all nine counties. Plus stanley has been putting this on his youtube page and he has people calling in from alabama. Yeah. 20,000, we are just south of 200 now. Ladies and gentlemen, our goal was 200,000 and apparently we are inching ever closer to it. The good news here is that we will stretch into the 11 00 hour. We will not quit at 10 00. We can get beyond 200. Hold on a second. Lets follow over here. I have caroline and we had a caller. We did and he wanted to remain anonymous. He did want to say that he wanted the beard to be shaved at the 200,000 mark. This is stanleys beard . He wanted stanley to shave his beard at 200,000 and he gave 500 to help make that happen. Are we doing this . Do we have a bic and everything . I have one on hand. [ laughter ] stanley, get ready to shave your beard, my friend. This lady donated 1000 for her fathers daughters birthday. They are on the same exact day. What is her first name . Margaret hansen. She is from san carlos. Fantastic. Thank you margaret. Why dont you handle the duties right here because i have to go into my desk . There is stanley. He does not know what he will have to do shortly. Are we allowed to follow you . I sort of dont believe, i dont have a razor here. You know me and all of the stuff ive got in my drawer. Check it out, people. Oh, my gosh, you do. Stanley, you have been challenged and we have a razor. Wait, 300,000. Do it for 200,000. Some guy just gave 500. We will hold onto this. What are you doing . Are you getting ready . We are staying on until 11 pm. We start busting out razors. We might have children watching this program. Can we listen in on this . Thank you ramona. You bet. She is living up in calistoga now and was displaced herself. She called in to give a donation. She lost her home. She did. And she is still trying to help other peoples people. Yes. 50. She gave 50. She wanted to get back and help in any way she could. Obviously you are happy for the victims that are going to benefit. Does it make giving up your friday night a little bit easier to know that you are a part of things like this . I would do this any given friday night. All things considered, this is priority one. I am happy to be here and happy to help. Thank you. Thank you to ramona. We just hit a milestone. We have just superseded 200,000. It is amazing, but we are not done yet. We are staying on until 11 pm. Initially we were going to go off at 10, but we will keep it going and be back with more right after this. Pushing the envelope. Welcome back. I have been taking calls for hours. Calls from people donating thousands, but it also moved me when a recalled retired teacher gave six dollars. A little girl who gave 7. 06 from her piggy bank. We have had just a few moments ago someone who donated 20,000. They are from the burn area of santa rosa. God bless him. He was so taken by it that he just opened up his checkbook. We have a new number. We updated. Before we get to that number, there is another magic number. Someone set up a challenge. If we had 300,000, stanley will shave his beard. I just happen to have a razor around. I dont want to go there. I have everything in my drawer. We will put this down. Lets go for another hour. This is amazing. So we have hit 201,630. The numbers just keep adding up. I have been on the phone and i have been getting call after call after call. I watched James Fletcher this morning and he said we are going to crush the evening crew. Sorry james. I dont think so. We are just getting warmed up. We will take a very brief break, but when we come back, we will carry on with the telethon. A little bit of news and we will raise money for the folks up north. At Stanford Health care, we can now use a blood sample to detect lung cancer. If we can do that, imagine what we can do for asthma. And if we can stop seizures in epilepsy patients with a small pacemaker for the brain, imagine what we can do for multiple sclerosis, even migraines. If we can use patients genes to predict Heart Disease in their families, imagine what we can do for the conditions that affect us all. Imagine what we can do for you. steve tongiht at ten kron4 is joining with the Salvation Army to raise money for the victims of the north bay firestorm.
