There you can see the shot from tiburon, the golden gate in view there, you can see in the background, however, theres nothing thats really going to clean this out or doesnt look like for tomorrow so even though the winds will subside by tomorrow, we will still going to be left with this atmosphere and on top of that, we will have the weather system set up in such a way that we are not going to get good mix to kind of let the atmosphere breathe a little bit so we will have probably air quality issues again tomorrow and probably even lingering a little bit into monday too. Quick checkin with the winds. Most of the models telling us, reporting stations off to the east in Solano County and knapp but a lot of problems napa but a lot of problems in Sonoma County. Reporting stations are relatively shielded from the winds. We have higher relative humidity levels contrasted with elsewhere so thats why that push from the north and the northeast didnt impact the areas to the west as much so their humidity levels are higher. They are lower where a lot of the fires are, not good. A look ahead to kind of put this all together for you, poor air quality in place. Wind advisory, red flag warning, the wind advisory is until 5 00 today but that red flag warning is with us all day until 11 00. Continued dry when that is said and done, tomorrow even though the winds will be over and then next week minor warming, showers middle to latter portion of the week, maybe by that point we will be able to clean out the atmosphere a little bit. Spare the air day with all of this, unhealthy air for almost the entire bay. Forecast calls for similar performance tomorrow, moderate for the south bay. Fire danger with the red flag warning, thats going to be with us until 11 00 even though the winds over at that point, banking off of a dry atmosphere and going to be a dry atmosphere in the north bay expected for sunday too. Check out the gusts that i am mentioning here. Looks like the most intense winds will remain at least until noon, then subsiding into the afternoon, even though the advisory period does carry us again until 5 00. Happy to report it looks like we are not going to have much more in the way of winds Going Forward but it will be very dry, ill have more on these models and we will check out the humidity levels for you in a bit. You can also check to see if loved ones have marked themselves safe on facebook or the website safe and well. Org. We have been talking about the situation in santa rosa. We want to go now live to henry would have ord who n . nis hen wofford who is reporting from there. Reporter i am doing a hike right now. This hike is about a 2mile hike from the corner of highway 12 and malia road. Thats how you have to walk in order to get to the Oakmont Community. Fire officials have said its not safe for anyone to be driving in this area but there are several photographers at this time doing the hike. Its not an easy hike but its where we see the biggest plume of smoke right now and im not seeing any fire flames at the ridge but, obviously, theres a deep black smoke and a little bit further about a mile north of that is a wide smoke. Thats where all the action is. I reported there were several bulldozers moving to a different location to fight this fire. We are talking about maybe 20 bulldozers that were all moving in the same direction, moving eastbound, but i was told by Police Officers that that was the night crew getting off. They are moving more crews on to fight the fire right now. As far as airplanes, no airplanes in the air but there is a helicopter doing more of a spot right now to show the firefighters the best way to take on this approach. But i am approximately 800 yards away from the Oakmont Community, once again its very important to note that it has been evacuated there. This is a Retirement Community where you have to be at least 55 years old to live in the community. Its an affluent neighborhood and at this time we are being told that there is a fire line on the scene to fight the fire if it approached those homes. We are talking about approximately 1000 homes in that location and it appears from where i am standing right now, i have to stop in order to do this interview, but im about 800 yards away from the neighborhood. The fire has got to be about at least two to 3 miles north of oakmont at this point. Henry, we have been talking about air quality throughout the morning and throughout the week on our screen we have a map showing the air quality situation. Obviously you cant see it, but what can you tell us about the air quality where you are. Reporter you know, the air quality where i am standing right now is not bad. However, i can tell you right now when i do approach the oakmont area its going to be significantly worse, im having a hard time even looking through the smoke and its only about, like i said, 800 yards away from me. Yeah. Reporter pretty clear where i am because thats because the wind is blowing away from me. Its blowing at my back so i dont have anything coming toward my face at this point. Still have a mask on. I can tell you right now there are a lot of people thats leaving. In fact, there is a guy on a bullhorn recently, a Police Officer reminding everyone to leave and leave right now. Now, this is a wide open area, but, marty, you would think there would be more green grass based on all the rain we have here in the last winter. Thats not the case. Everything here is dead. I mean extremely dead. So you could see how quickly and how easily it would be for a fire to spread in this area. Im picking up grass and just filling it right now and its as dry as hay. I mean, it is very, very dry. Nothing but fuel for a wildfire, which is not good news at all. The winds have dropped down. Earlier this morning when i started my shift around 4 00 in the morning, the winds were pretty gusty. Right now somewhat calm and, like i said, its still one of the worst things we can talk about right now is how dry the area is. Henry, just down highway 12. One thing to keep an eye out for, we were talking to cal fire in the last hour, they mentioned that the aerial drops should be starting just about now, sometime after 8 00 this morning, they said that the tankers will be taken to the sky, so something to keep an eye out for and also some great news for the people who are worried about their homes in that area. Reporter absolutely. The one thing, if you are living in the oakmont area, believe me, theres an entire fire line over here looking to protect those homes and thats because, as i was told, theres over 1000 homes in this area, Retirement Community, they are protecting those homes. Theres a couple of homes spread out in the hills and i dont see any Fire Protection in that area but they are basically grouping it by the largest amount of homes in the same area, protect that line and keep it from penetrating past that line in order to ignite more dead grass out in this area. Yeah. Henry, be safe, thank you so much for that report. Keep that mask on and we will talk to you in a little bit. Will do. Thank you, marty. We will be right back. The things that matter most happen one morning and one cup at a time. Do you want to do a monster check . Yes. No monsters. How about the drawer . No monsters. Nightly monster checks are how grant makes home his. And homegoods is what makes it all possible. Amazing finds. Always great prices. Make home yours. marty here again lets our coverage continues of the wildfires burning in the north bay. Take a look at the evacuations came down early this morning. Mandatory evacuations in place in Sonoma Valley. The area we are talking about specifically is seventh street east from east napa street to denmark street. North side of denmark street from seventh street east to napa road, eighth street east north of denmark road, eastmont mccarthy street east macarthur road east of seventh street. Mandatory evacuations also in effect in santa rosa. The area we are talking about specifically is east of calistoga road to the city of santa rosa limits, also north of ma leada road to the city of santa rosa limits. This includes all of sky hawk, oakmont and much of rinken valley. You have been ordered to evacuate your homes immediately. And now for the latest on the fire, we want to go to amy head from cal fire. Amy, good morning. Good morning. What can you tell us as far as the latest on the firefight this morning . So we did have a fire basically between the tubs fire and the nuns fire that are part of the central complex fires that began yesterday up off of tipon road which is off of highway 12. The fire did increase in activity overnight and we did experience winds and some winds in the Higher Elevations and that fire is pushing down between those two fires, down toward highway 12, which is why we did the additional evacuations in the sienna rosa area that you were just mentioning. Yeah. There was some more activity over on the sonoma side in the area of the seventh street and eighth street areas that you were mentioning, people have evacuated from there, people have evacuated from the whole santa rosa area, they are ordered to go to an evacuation shelter. As far as i know, everyone is cooperating and we have a lot of resources heading to both of those areas and are in the areas already. Whats the situation with the air tankers this morning . We have 14 minutes ago our air attack will be up to recon the area and figure out which aircraft to put where. We have a lot of resources as far as aircraft assigned to the incident already. A lot of helicopters assigned, they will assess the situation and start plugging in our aircraft, where they are needed on those specific fires. And what can you tell us about the firefighters and the crews, how are they doing . We understand you have some 9000 firefighters on the front lines. Yeah, its been busy over at the Sonoma County fairgrounds. Ive been here at 3 00 in the morning, somewhere in that hour and we have seen a lot of resources coming in and out of here. On this fire, the central complex, nearly 3000 fires, 3000 assigned here. We have a lot of resources here, they have been fed and getting rest and doing good. I understand there are firefighters from across the country helping out. There are. I havent heard the latest on where everybody is from. Its been amazing. Ive seen a map showing people from alaska, all throughout the united states. Its amazing to see all the support and all the different agencies that are coming here to help us. Amy, it seems today the major issue is going to be the wind. Is that right . Thats correct. We have a red flag warning in effect that winds could have materials materialized around midnight is what they are predicting. They are late on that is what im hearing from the weather service. They did develop in the Higher Elevations, which is where a lot of the fires are burning, in the 3 00, 4 00 hour and we i think the red flag is supposed to go to about 11 00 this morning. Down here in the valley area, its really light winds, so we are really concerned with the Higher Elevations where these fires are burning. Yeah, amy, the other big issue, of course, is the air quality. Not just in the north bay but also throughout the region. That continues to be a problem, doesnt it . Absolutely. Its up here in Sonoma County, its a little bit better than yesterday, not sure how it is down there in the bay area. Theres a lot of smoke coming your way from the activity that were happening so, yeah, people need to be aware of the air quality, stay indoors if you can and just be aware because this firefight is not over. Yeah. Amy, thank you so much forting your time for taking your time in whats another busy day. Amy head from cal fire. And we will be Touching Base with you in another few minutes. We will be right back. Thank you. marty breaking news good morning. We are back with breaking news this morning on kron4. The north bay wildfires continue to burn this morning. Want to show you a live shot from level valley road. Thats where the flames are bursting there and we dont have that just yet. We will go ahead and go to kron4s Camille Camila who is in that area. Reporter i am on east napa street and sixth street east. I am exactly a block away from the mandatory evacuation zone and i just spoke to the officer behind me and he was telling me that this area is not under mandatory evacuation but it might be pretty soon. So people need to be aware, they need to be ready and they just need to be paying attention. The smoke is actually very visible right now. The flames were visible earlier this morning, not so much anymore, but you can see the flames and people are being told to stay away. Let me take you to some of the mandatory evacuations in this area. In Sonoma Valley, the evacuations are mandatory on seventh street east from east napa street to denmark street. On the north side of denmark street from seventh street east to napa road, eighth street east north of denmark road, east mccar car that are street macarthur street east of seventh street east. All under mandatory evacuations. Santa rosa, the mandatory evacuations there are east of calistoga road to the city of santa rosa limits and north of malida road to the city of santa rosa limits. This includes all of sky hawk, oakmont and much of rankin valley. They are telling you to reevacuate your homes, have everything ready, head to a shelter, head anywhere where you are safe away from that area. Back here they are telling people to be vigilant of when the mandatory orders are going to go into effect. I spoke to some of the residents in this area who didnt want to be on camera but they actually kind of sneaked in just a few minutes ago and they were telling me that they saw some damage on castle road and north castle. They were saying that that area, they did see some fire damage and they said that the fire was put out but that it was damaged a little bit so we are not sure because i wasnt able to get in there but some of the residents were coming out. That is what they are telling me, so they are just asking everybody to be vigilant, to be ready to go just in case more mandatory orders go into effect. Looking at your picture, it doesnt seem like the wind is really an issue at least where you are right now. Reporter not a lot of wind but there are definitely some ashes from the fire and, you know, the officers are all wearing their masks, they are asking me if i have a mask. So it is very thick smoke here and wear your masks and be careful because the smoke is definitely in the air. Camila bernal reporting for us from sonoma. And we will be right back. There are new mandatory evacuations for sonoma and santa rosa. We want to focus on santa rosa this morning, at least in this segment by going to john slow of the chp. Good morning. Good morning. Can you give us an update on how the evacuation went this morning. Everything was pretty orderly. We advised people to leave the neighborhoods on the east end of santa rosa. The fire was not that close at that point. There was there was slight congestion but that dissipated quickly. Right now we have highway 12 shut down on the outskirts of santa rosa at calistoga road so that we can get Fire Equipment into the fire area. The role of the chp in a situation like this is to make the roads passable for Emergency Personnel . The role of the chp is whatever is needed. We help with evacuations this morning helped with evacuations this morning. At that point went to the fire scene to make sure that the roadways were open and that is our major goal, though s to keep the roads open so we get the Fire Equipment in where its needed. How has the situation changed this week as youve been busy day after day after day. Are you seeing progress . What are you seeing from your perspective . Well, the areas that have already been affected that were that were devastated we have locked down pretty tight and the Biggest Issue we have had this week is residents showing some understandable frustration that we cant get back to their homes. Yeah. And, you know, our officers understand that but we have got these neighborhoods locked down for several reasons. Safety is number 1. We dont want to send anybody back into a neighborhood that might be unsafe that does not have power or water, so we are working with our utilities and Public Safety partners to make sure that that happens, and we are worried about looters, we have had a few arrests for looting in these areas and the tighter we can lock down a neighborhood to everybody, the better we can protect their property. Have you found for the most part that people have been willing to go when you have a mandatory evacuation . For the most part, yes. We have come across a few that we had to tell, you know, this is a mandatory evacuation that you choose to stay, do not expect rescue. Yeah. We dont have enough personnel. But for the most part they have. And we urge people that are not under evacuation, definitely have the belongings you want to take with you ready to go, that way if it comes up fast, which it did last sunday and monday, you just have to grab those things and get out. But until that time, please stay off the roads so that we can keep it clear for firefighting equipment. John, in your experience, have you ever seen anything like this past week . Never. And i was not on the job when the oakland fires occurred but talking to those officers that were, this is far, far worse. Probably the worst disaster i will see in my career. Yeah. John, thank you so much for your service and we will be checking in with you throughout the morning. Thank you for spending some time with us. Thats jon sloat with the chp in santa rosa. Thank you. Want to tell you about the new evacuations in Sonoma County overnight. We want to go live to Camila Bernal, who is in sonoma. She has the latest on that. Camila, good morning. Reporter marty, good morning. I am on east napa street and sixth street east just a block away from seventh street, which are its the area where the mandatory evacuations are and like i told you a couple minutes ago, i talked to some of the officers here and they told me that this area might not be under voluntary evacuation for very long. They are also asking that you be very respectful of the road closures. They are not letting anyone in no matter what. They are not letting reporters, they are not letting residents cross through these streets and they are even telling residents that they could get arrested if they are seen crossing into these streets so basically you either have to be inside your home or you have to be on your way out. Other than that, there is nobody on the streets and nobody is allowed in this area. Earlier in the day we were able to see the flames, we were able to see the fire not very far away. Now you dont really see the fire. You just see a lot of the smoke. But there is definitely more mandatory evacuations. Take a look at the graphics so we can explain where these evacuations are. Mandatory evacuations in Sonoma Valley are on seventh street east from east napa street to denmark street. They are on the north side of denmark street from seventh street east to napa road. They are on eighth street east north of denmark road, east macarthur street, east of seventh street, east its quail runway and hamblin road, all of it under mandatory evacuation. They are asking that if youre in that area, you get out as soon as possible. Now lets go over to santa rosa. The mandatory evacuations in santa rosa are east of calistoga road to the city of santa rosa limits and north of melita road to the city of santa rosa limits. This includes all of sky hawk, oakmont and much of rincon valley. They are asking you to evacuate immediately. So again the area where i am standing is under value terror evacuation voluntary evacuation. If youre under a voluntary evacuation, that advisory means you have to be ready, you have to have your bags packed, you have to be ready to go at any moment because they could come knocking on your door and you might only have seconds or minutes to get out of this area. They are telling everyone to be as ready as they can be to get out. I spoke to some residents who were able to get in and as they were coming out, they were telling me that they did see some damage from the flames on residents that they say is on castle and north castle. So that area they said as they went in, they saw some fire damage. So just, you know, they cant be back in there, they were told to get out and so they are just telling everybody to be very, very respectful of whats closed and to get out if you can. Camila, this is going to be repetitive but we need to emphasize this again. Youre saying where you are is voluntarys evacuation but according to the officer you spoke to, it may not be that way much longer. It could turn to a mandatory evacuation; is that right . Reporter correct. Those were his exact words. I asked him, you know, is this area under mandatory evacuation . And he said its not but it might not be for long, which is why people have to be ready and they have to be paying attention and they just have to be very careful because in a matter of minutes, in a matter of hours, it could be a mandatory evacuation zone so just people have to have their bags packed and be completely ready. We never know. It might not be. It might not get to that point but there is a possibility that it would become a mandatory evacuation, so people have to be ready. Yeah, and as we have learned that lesson time and time again over the past week. Thank you, camila. Camila bernal reporting for us from sonoma. Want to go to dave cannon, he is the photographer who shot some of the video of the fire this morning. Dave, good morning. Reporter good morning. Can you tell us about your situation and what it was like to shoot some of the harrowing footage that we have on our screen now . Yes, i can. This is reminiscent of the sunday night, early monday morning fires that i shot in napa. As you know we have bin dealing with these for a few like almost a week now, but i got up today, i was woken up by my radio at my bedside and i heard them calling extra strikes in, so i went out to see what was going on and when i got to the valley floor of ca noma, the whole entire hillside was lit up bright orange and you can tell there was a decent wind on it and the first thing i noticed was that the Sheriff Department and other Police Agencies that are assisting were going up and down the block saying to the residents on their loud speaker, this is the Sheriff Department. Get out now. This is the Sheriff Department, get out now. So i knew it was very serious situation and eventually worked my way up to one of the roads that i felt the fire was making progress on and some of that video that you may not be showing right now, i found basically a wall of flames and i got out and the embers were blowing, you know, swirling all around, the wind was whipping up, the fire had a very strong foothold and i was pretty sure there was a residence that was on fire a little bit in the foreground. I could hear the explosions, et cetera, but, yeah, it was very reminiscent of last monday and i thought to myself, here we go again. Yeah. Im sure a lot of folks who have been covering this fire saying here we go again. Dave, what can you tell us about, you know, put your camera down for a second and just as someone who is viewing this and seeing peoples homes go up in flames, their homes, their memories, everything they have, whats going through your mind . Reporter well, its when i have time to think about it, thats when the sadness starts to set in because i do realize that people are losing just an enormous amount of property and, you know, thank goodness they get out because even though its certainly dangerous to try to stay and defend your property but the fire once the fire starts and this kind in this kind of manner and the winds and the fire conditions persist like this, you have to get out and i do worry and my wife and i basically feel terribly for these folks because we live in petaluma and we are not that far away from many of the fires, the santa rosa fires, the Sonoma Valley fires, you know. We know people who have lost homes and we frequent businesses that have been leveled and just really, really cuts close. So it hits you on a very personal basis as well. This morning or any point this week, did you ever feel that you were in danger, that you were fearing for your life at this point . Thats a good question. If you ask my wife, she is the prudent one. She packed a go bag, a kind of hurry up, get out of dodge evacuation bag and im just kind of saying, oh, youre silly, but really she had the best intentions and she is probably a little smarter than me because i was just like, no, i dont think its coming this close but with whats going on now, you just never know. Yeah. Be sure to give her an extra hug, dave. Reporter thanks, marty. Thanks a lot. Thats dave cannon who has been bringing us all this footage that you see this morning. And we will be right back with our coverage. The Energy Conscious people among us say small actions can add up to something. Humongous. A little thing here. A little thing there. Starts to feel like a badge maybe millions can wear. Who are all these caretakers, advocates too . Turns out, its californians its me and its you. Dont stop now, its easy to add to the routine. Join Energy Upgrade california and do your thing. Honey bunches of oats. Its crispy sweetened flakes, plus crunchy granola clusters, plus a touch of honey. It is mmmm, is good it all adds up to a mouthful of joy. Honey bunches of oats. Have you tried it yet . We want to show you now where these fires are we want to show you now where the fires are burning this morning. We are going to start with the tubs fire. That blaze has spread to more than 35,000 acres that have been scorched, but its now 44 contained as of this morning. A significant number of structures have been destroyed. The nuns fire which also includes the nor, balm, adobe and partridge fires, together they have burned over 46,000 acres just 10 containment this morning. But the biggest fire is the atlas fire, its now burned over 50,000 acres. It is up to 45 containment. We will be right back. we are back on kron4 weekend with live coverage of our continuing coverage of the fire in the north bay. We are taking a look at the east bay. Some haziness there but not too bad, at least from that shot. But we have been dealing with a lot of smoke that continues to fill the skies over the bay area. A lot of Outdoor Events have been cancelled. The San Francisco Half Marathon was cancelled. The raiders, however, and the nfl say that the game is still scheduled for tomorrow, tomorrow afternoon at the coliseum as scheduled but just keep an eye in case as we take a look basically traveling around the bay there looking at sfo this time around and a lot of folks heading out jogging, theres soccer games, things like that that may or may not have been cancelled but be sure to take a mask with you. Something we have its the new normal. It seems to be right and nothing thats going to clean up this atmosphere at all in the immediate future. Heres a snapshot out of petaluma and again pretty much the smoky skies we have been talking about to be found there. Heading over to berkeley, east Berkeley Hills off into the bay, its still that haze from that offshore wind that we have been discussing. Heres the bay area air quality. Its really unhealthy just about all over the bay but because of those winds actually locally away from a fire, it may not be as bad, again, its just the winds, they are offshore, grant it, but locally clearing out conditions at least for a short time. Check in with the bay area winds for now, the heaviest winds appear to be in the east into napa county, Solano County, not so much in Sonoma County right now, although locally they can very much vary and change direction very, very quickly and thats what we have been talking about a lot. Thats why its important that the people we are talking to on the ground to say heres what the conditions are here. We tell you that means the general picture whats going on northerly, northeasterly, offshore winds dry but locally they can vary very much from neighborhood to neighborhood and the topography plays into things too, even temperaturewise too. Because some of the valleys can channel the winds and when you start channeling or funneling the winds, thats when you start to up the temperatures too. Talking about the air quality, we want to go now to alisa fasano with the bay area air Quality Management district. What can you tell us about the air quality for this weekend . We are projecting a forecast and looking at the we have hourly readings and air quality looks very unhealthy throughout the weekend and, and as you said, it is changeable, depending on which way the winds blow but generally we kind of have an inversion layer and all the smoke sitting over the entire bay area like a big puddle of mud. Yeah, thats a good way to put it. Do you see any break in the next few days . We dont see much of a break until possibly monday but its hard to even say. I mean, the north bay counties are going to continue to be impacted heavily and we are also seeing a lot of that smoke come down and affect the east bay and impacting the south bay, the greater Santa Clara Valley substantially as well, i mean, unfortunately in the bay area, theres very few places you can go where youre not going to have unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy air quality. What tips do you have for people who might be thinking about a saturday morning jog or soccer game with their kids, that type of thing . A jog not advised. Air quality is too poor, too unhealthy, too much of this fine particulate in the air and it would really be problematic for someone who is out jogging. Im here in alameda and i know they have cancelled soccer for the kids today and im assuming in lots of parts of the bay area, sports are being cancelled. I know that Football Games or high schools yesterday were cancelled so sports are getting cancelled. We are getting called about that, we are getting called about that regularly and so people are certainly erring on the side of caution to protect Childrens Health because children and the elderly, especially Young Children are more susceptible because they draw in so much more air into their lungs and the air is just filled with unhealthy, fine particles. You know, lisa, in a week that has been filled with very personal and shocking images, one of the more shocking images i saw were sidebyside photos of the bay area air quality right next to the air quality in beijing, which is considered one of the worst places on earth. Yeah. No, we are seeing levels that mirror levels in china. We are in a very bad situation and, unfortunately, unless you get out of the area, theres really no getting away from it. A friend sent a photo that they were in monterey yesterday and beautiful skies there, but we are not finding that here. Yeah. Lisa fasano with the bay area air quality district, thank you so much for spending a couple minutes with us. We will be right back. Thank you. Our fire coverage continues this morning. Want to show you this interactive map that we have been using on kron4, this is the crown hill drive and parker road neighborhood in santa rosa. There you can see parker hill road and what we are seeing here is just the red areas are vegetation and the reason its red is because of all the fire retardant that has been used, but it shows you really graphically the homes that have been saved right next to homes that havent. If you take a look at parker hill road, we see this one home, Swimming Pool in the back yard and it is completely in tact and you go across the road and you see dozens of homes that have been completely destroyed. We will be right back. marty and smoke continues to fill the skies across the bay area. We are back on kron four news weekend. Black smoke continues to fill the skies, unhealthy air for the next few days, a lot of events have been canceled. You see in the north, there are some yellows but there are some winds at work off shore, if you are away from the fire, that means that its better but the winds are stirring things around. The inversion is a big problem that is going to be with us all weekend long. Thank you, dave, we are right back with our coverage this is the bay areas news station, kron four news starts now with breaking news. Winds have kicked up overnight, thats forced new evacuations for hundreds of homes as fires continue to rage in the north bay this morning. The fires have caused the evacuations,s newest are in sonoma, Camila Bernal has the latest. Reporter good morning, i am on the intersection of east napa street and sixth street east, a block away from the mandatory evacuation zones, those are new zones that came out overnight. Anybody in that area is being asked to get out and nobody is allowed to get in. They are asking people to be respectful of the road closures, residents have to leave or they will be arrested. You have to Pay Attention if you live here, there may be more mandatory evacuations, this area where i am is a voluntary evacuation zone but it could change at any time to a mandatory evacuation zone. I will go over the mandatory evacuation zones, in sonoma, the mandatory evacuations are on seventh street east to east denmark street to napa road. On eighth street east, north of den mack road. East Mack Mcarthur street. These are new evacuations that have been made mandatory. Also east of calistoga road to the city of santa rosa limits. This includes all of sky hawk, oakmont and all of the rippingon valley. They are asking you to to ee vak your homes immediately. You can see the smoke, they are asking people to be careful to wear their masks if they are out and around in this area, some residents are not evacuated if they are under voluntary evacuation, one man i spoke to said he will not leave until he gets the knock on the door but authorities are asking people to have a bag packed and to Pay Attention in case they only have minutes to leave. That way you will be ready to go. Thank you for that live report. Right now voluntary evacuations in the area where she is but that might change as the winds change. Heres the map of the mandatory evacuations going on in Sonoma County, that includes the evacuations on highway 12 in santa rosa, thats where we find henry wofford, he is on the front lines of where the fire fight is going on in santa rosa. Reporter i do not have the video here but when you reach highway 12 at melita road, the fire officials make the media walk in order to get as close to the fire as possible. Right now the most extreme point of the fire is at Sugar Loaf Ridge park, i have seen the firefighters get extremely aggressive fighting the fire. I do not see flames from here but there is obviously flames in the area because the sky has an orange light. What i can tell you is that we have three tankers in the air, they just left the area to go refuel, plus two helicopters, the Oakmont Community is safe for right now. This fire is still north of highway 12, it has not crossed over the road south of highway 12, there is a Retirement Community in oakmont that has 700 homes, the main fire is Sugar Loaf Ridge park, this is a 3900acre park, i see a lot of smoke, the smoke is blowing in the southwest direction, we have three tankers and two helicopters fighting the fire. The aerial assault has changed since the last time we talked to you, henry. Can you see if the air tankers are making an intk . Yes, during my hike i saw a few occasions where the flames were jum jumping from tree to tree. Now i see a huge plume of smoke, in fact the smoke has spread at least four and a half to 5 miles wide at this point. The fire itself appears to be moving north, away from highway 12 not in the direction of oakmont. Those in that area are feeling great in for that news, i do not see too many homes where the fire is moving now, there is a lot of vegetation in this area, there is a lot of people who had to leave horses, i counted three or four runches out here, there are over 45 or 50 horses i saw walking towards the fire, the area is completely evacuated but the winds have died down. The winds are not a major factor but the fire is a major factor. They have become much more aggressive attacking the fire over the last 30 minutes. Thank you henry, here again we are going to look at the evacuations that came down early this morning. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place in the Sonoma Valley. This is the area we are talk about. Seventh street east from neeft napa street to denmark street. Then north of denmark street to napa road and eighth street east north of denmark road and east mcarthur street and hamblin road. There are evacuations east of calistoga road to the city of Santa Rosa City limits and north of melita road to the city of santa rosa limits. That includes all of the sky hawk. You heard him talking about the oakmont subdigs and rincon valley. The subdivision and the rincon valley. Now less go to dave in that area. Reporter good morning, this is the familiar haze we have been talking about all week, its still with us, we were talking about the air quality with the folks at the air quality office, they were telling us about the inversion, its not going to improve today or tomorrow. It looks better to the north but there are local winds occurring there and that temporarily is providing a bit of relief for them. Red flag warning until 11 00 today. Dry conditions remain and they remain into sunday as well. Lets go to the winds. We have been hearing from the reporters, the local winds have been dying down but they have been Holding Holding together in parts of the north east. The most intense winds in Solano County and napa county, the air is dry in napa and solano counties. Lets look at the future cast winds, how long will this last. The heaviest winds are over the next three to six hours, again, the wind advisory remains until 5 00. This goes out until sunday but the winds will not be problematic sunday. Humidity level are dry, we have the winds done by 8 00 but the drier air and the inversion are with us tomorrow because of the pressure system. The kron four morning news continues i love my mom. My mom. I love my kids. My kids. My job. Taking care of everybody. Everyday. My mom. My kids. My job. Yes. When im at work. When im at home. I could just really use some help sometimes. Hey we hear you. Thats why aarp helps family caregivers. With connections to experts and resources like our prepare to care guide. Because we get it. If you dont think this is right for me when you think aarp, then you dont know aarp. Get your free guide at aarp. Org possibilities. marty here again lets take a look at the evacautions that came down overnight. New this morning, there are new evacuations that were ordered overnight. The mandatory evacuation orders are in place in Sonoma Valley. We are talking about the area of seventh street east from east napa street to denmark street and from the north of denmark street to napa ode and east mcarthur street to the east of seventh street and east quail runway to hamblin road. They have evacuation orders also north of melita road to Santa Rosa City limits, this includes the subdivisions of sky hawk, oakmont and rincon valley. Now we want to talk to councilman chris rogers of the city of santa rosa, good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Can you tell us how the evacuation process has been going . Its disconcerting for people who were evacuated in the middle of the night or people who are hearing that additional evacuation orders have been issued. It gives the impression that things are not going well in the fire fight. I have good news, i just came from a briefing with the other city council members, no additional structures have been lost, while there have been additional evacuations and the fire line has moved to the city limits, the firefighters have done a great job controlling the blaze through the windiest portion of the night. When we get through the 3 00 a. M. To 5 00 time frame, it gives us an opportunity to attack the fire with air support and everything that we have, i understand that the fire line, while is went closer to the city, has now been stopped and we will be able to push it back out. Thats very good news for the people that live in that area, one thing that we need to keep in mind, its always better to err on the side of caution before waiting to announce a mandatory evacuation. Yes, one of the things that was frustrating for those that were evacuated, i kept getting messages from people asking me, with where is the fire at . Its important to know that, but know if you are in a mandatory evacuation zone, regardless of whether or not the fire is on your block, you need to evacuate. A lot of people were trying to parse out how long they could wait before they have to leave. The answer is, when you get a mandatory ee vak yeahs notice, you need to get out. Many times, the orders are given to allow official personnel and fire crews to get to the area more quickly. Thats correct. Its also important to note that our fire personnel and our Public Safety personnel have their first and foremost priority to be saving lives, if they are worried about search and rescue, they are not on the front lines fighting the fires, if you get an opportunity to get out, please help us out by allowing us less resources to do search and rescue and more resources to fight the fire. Chris, this has to have been a difficult week for you and the city council to watch your friends and neighbors property and businesses go up in flames. It has been, i was born and raised in santa rosa, its difficult to see a Community Changing event happening. But i will tell you, the will of the santa rosa people has been strong, just as i expected from the get go, they have pulled together in a way that you would expect a Community Like santa rosa to do. They have embraced one another and taken care of their neighbors. I believe that they will be engaged and active in making the community a better place. We have seen stances of that time after time during this past week, it has to be so heartening to see your friends and neighbors coming through the way that they have. Absolutely. That was chris rogers from the Santa Rosa City council, we will be right back welcome to the money minute, we demystifying recertificates mortgages. What is a reverse mortgage. It allows seniors to reverse mortgages. What is a reverse mortgage . T. It allows seniors to marty and smoke continues to fill the ross the bay we back on kron four weekend. Lets go outside for a look at the hazy conditions that continue throughout the bay, we been dealing with this throughout the past week or so. Court the bay area air Quality Management district, the air quality issues are going to remain for the next few days, if you go outside, take a mask, a lot of events have been canceled for the bay area, the raiders game will continue tomorrow as scheduled at the coliseum. With more on the air quality and the winds, lets go to dave. Good morning, heres a shot of the bay bridge, the haze is left with us still. We have haze tomorrow as well. The air quality folks said that its not just the inversion that we had this morning, but after that is done, we still have the High Pressure overhead. Thats falling air and it does not allow the air to vertically mix. Unhealthy air all over the bay today. Local winds are providing some mixing in the north. We have a red flag warning with us through 11 00. We have a dry atmosphere for today as well as sunday, compliments of that High Pressure overhead. We have winds in the teens in some areas wooshes we have a lot of problems in Sonoma County. In the north bay, the air is drier with the thrust coming from the north east. Winds for the next four to six hours, for tonight into tomorrow, winds will not be a factor except locally, but we have the dry atmosphere left over, here are the projected humidity levels, they are dropping to the single digits, i checked the die points, thats the absolute measurement of moisture in the air, when those number are lower, you always have drier air, in some cases, its below freezing and your ice water will not sweat. We have the lower humidity levels continuing into sunday afternoon, we have very low numbers, the temperature change also tells the tale, we have winds moving, so temperatures have not fallen overnight. They provide a bit of local heating particularly when they get funneled through the valleys. Local areas have been local wind situations based on the landscapes, we will keep you updated on that as well. Lets get the latest information from cal fire on how the situation is breaking this morning. We are going to scott for that. Good morning. Good morning. Can you give us an idea of where the hot spots with. We put out mandatory evacuation orders early this morning. The fire developed just north of highway 12 for the nuns fire. Its going through the area, the fire behavior is very erratic at this time, due to the winds that are coming through. I can see the smoke, its not as aggressive as before but now we have the sun to the humidity is dropping. The helicopters are dealing with that. On the lower southwest side of the fire, between the fire and the community, the fire has pushed out and its getten 300 more acres. The fire has gone near the out skirts of some structures but its okay so far in sonoma. One thing that we have been hearing is the Historic Town square of sonoma may be in the path of the fire, is that still true . Its hard to determine. We are dealing with the winds, we evacuated the eastern side of sonoma. I am not going to get that aggressive in terms of that prediction, so far its along the perimeter. When anything happens, you need to get out. We were talking about the air assault that is planned for the fires, can you talk about that. We have a couple of air attacks up this morning. We have three helicopters assigned to the pocket fire on down. Thats where the helicopters are. We have air tankers, the 747 eases, they pumped 30,000 gallons of retardant on the fires. Keep in mind, the aircrafts that dropped the retardant are just part of it. Then the ground crews work on it as well. Thank you, scott. We are checking with you throughout the mourning. Our knch continues right after the break our coverage continues right after the break we have breaking news this morning, there are new evacuations in sonoma overnight. We have the latest information with Camila Bernal who is in the area. Reporter good morning, i was able to go into the mandatory evacuation zone, i am on valley road. A loft residents were asking about their houses in this area, as i was driving in, the houses before this hill all seemed to be okay, i have not gone up the hill so we do not know if the fire reached into the hills but i saw a lot of smoke in the mountains and up in the air, i am not sure what i am going to find up the hill. I am going to try to go up the hill in the next few minutes, if your house is below the hill, your house seems to be okay. In Sonoma Valley, the mandatory evacuations are on seven lt street east from east of napa street to denmark street and on the north of denmark street from seventh east to denmark road and east mcrathur streets from denmark east. Then in santa rosa, the closures and the evacuation are east of calistoga road to the city of santa rosa limits and north of melita road to the city of santa rosa limits, this includes sky hawk, oakmont and much of rincon valley. They are asking you to ee evacuate your homes as soon as possible and to stay away from the area and respect the roadblocks. Right now the flames are not able to be seen. The krows are working here. They are woarking to contain the fire and to keep it away crews are working here, they are working to contain the fire and keep it away, they are asking people to be vigilant and keep away from the mandatory evacuation areas and they are asking people in the voluntary evacuation area to be ready. It seems that the air seems pretty good for an evacuation zone, where you are. Reporter it seems like its good but it not. The smoke is thick, its hard to breathe. You can smell it no matter where you are, you can feel it. People are wearing their masks, the firefighters have their gear. Even though it does not look like its bad, it is bad. Thank you Camila Bernal, shes live from sonoma. Now i wanted to turn our tawngs to the strong winds, making it difficult for firefighters. Attention to the strong winds, making it difficult for firefighters. The winds are still with us, teens in fairfield. Solano county getting the brunt of the winds, santa rosa, the winds are modest but the direction is coming in from the north. It was shielded overnight as novato was because of the dry air, this is the legacy that we have to deal with Going Forward in the weekend forecast. 52 in novato, 66 in napa. They are warmer than Everything Else because of the offshore wind effect. Notice 24 hours ago, its cooler than we have had again because of the offshore winds. Its poor air quality, wind advisories until 5 00, red flag warning through 11 00. Tomorrow we are banking off a dry atmosphere until monday morning. Next week, worming and then showers in the middle to the later portions of next week, we will be monitoring that. Thats something to look forward to. We want to give you the latest information from Sonoma County, lets go to the spencer. Good morning. Reporter good morning. What can you tell us about the evacuation process. Reporter its been smooth and orderly from what i have been hearing. The evacuation is from adoby canyon to calistoga road through the calistoga subdivision. How many people are we talking about . Reporter i do not have that number but up to 3,000 people were in shelters last night. There are 21 shelters open in the county. What is the situation at the shelters . Are people getting everything that they need . Reporter nobody has gone hungry, there is plenty of food and drinks and there is room for more people, if you need a place to stay or a meal or anything that meets your needs, stop into a shelter. The situation, as far as the evacuation in the santa rosa area, did things go smoothly as well . Reporter thats my understanding, from what i was hearing, it was smooth and orderly, some people always try to protect their homes, we do not advise that but if thats their choice, best of luck, we try to save as many people as possible. What are the major hot spots today and looking ahead to tomorrow . Reporter thats up to the fire department. They have a big fire up in the hills, i know they are up there working. We have a lot of fire staff from all around the state on the scene, i could not be happier about the response from all of the Fire Fighting equipment and the people that came in to help us. What is your main focus for today . Reporter preserving life. Getting people out and getting them to shelters. We have traffic issues that we are working on. Then we have the crew doing search and rescue and recovery of fire victims and locating missing people. Thank you spencer. That was unupdate from sonoma. Thank you, we will be right back our fire coverage continues this morning on kron four, we going to Camila Bernal who is covering the situation and the new evacuations this morning. Reporter good morning, i am with paul with rocklin fire, he is going to give us an update as to what happened. Lets tart about how the fire has progressed overnight. The wind has started to pickup overnight. At about 3 00 manager they had an event and there were some issues with structures being threatened so they dispatched strike teams to protect the structures, i cannot speak to how many structures were lost, i do not have a count on that but there were a number lost in the Sonoma Valley area. Reporter i have a lot of residents who are waiting and they are asking me about their homes, do you know the specific areas. I know its frustrating when you do not have that information but i cannot verify anything, i can tell you that the wind is supposed to pickup and its peaking at 10 00 a. M. We are still worried about this area, there are plenty of resources here and we are going going to do what week to keep the containment lines from being pressured too much. Reporter how contained is the fire and where can we expect people to have mandatory or voluntary evacuations. This area is under a mandatory evacuation, i cannot stress enough how much we need people to heed the orders. They are in place for the safety of the public and the firefighters, the fire is less than a quarter of a mile from here up the hill. Reporter how safe are the homes up the hill . The wint has into the peaked yet. So they are wind has not peaked yet so they are making Good Progress on the fire but the whole area is threatened and we need to remain vigilant and keep these apparatus in here to protect the homes. Reporter should the residents be concerned . If people are under advisory evacuations, they should probably leave. I cannot speak to where the fire is going to go but i am confident that the firefighters will keep things in check. Reporter talk to me about the firefighters, how many crews are out here and are they on 24 hour shifts. They have on 24 hour shifts. But a lot of times they have been here for more than 24 hours. These are very professional firefighters from all over the state, we are fortunate to have a response like this for this area. Reporter we have been talking about the air quality. What do you say to the residents in the area in terms of the smoke and what is coming. Any smoke is bad smoke. There is no smoke you breathe that is good for you, if you have breathing issues, its best to leave the area. That was Camila Bernal getting an update on the fire. Our koanch coverage continues right after the break cook middle hool at 2480 our fire coverage continues, we have a list of the shelters. Cook middle school, lc Allen High School. Annaln high school gym, and the Finley Community center on west College Avenue in santa rosa and the santa rosa Veterans Building on maple avenue, also the Sonoma County fair grounds at the grace and finle yerks pavilions, also a new staging area just opened at the former fire mans Fund Building. There are available spaces at the shelters in santa rosa, marin is providing this space as an overflow, if necessary, we will be right back do you want to do a monster check . Yes. No monsters. How about the drawer . No monsters. Nightly monster checks are how grant makes home his. And homegoods is what makes it all possible. Amazing finds. Always great prices. Make home yours. marty and smoke we are back, our live coverage continues as we look outside from the golden gate bridge, you can see the hazy skies, the smoke continues to fill the skies in the bay area, a lot of out door events have been canceled because of the smoke, the air Quality Management district said you should stay inside if at all possible because of the unhealthy air, be sure to wear a mask if you are heading out and as always, check and see if there are any events that have been canceled. As far as the nfl, the raiders game kicks oof as scheduled tomorrow afternoon at the coliseum. Lets get the latest on the forecast and the wind. Good morning, the bad air quality is around again tomorrow. This is the east bay, you can see the haze over the horizon. Its effecting everyone in the bay area, heres the local winds, we are hearing locally that the firefighters are battling the winds this morning as they have peaked overnight and they are going to linger around through noon or 1 00. Humidity levels have dropped off in the north bay. Up to santa rosa and novato, they are more elevated. How much longer will the winds last . They go through 1 00 or so then they saw side through sunday.
