We continue our break News Coverage with the latest out of las vegas with a mass shooting from a gunman on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel down onto the concert goers who were at this venue for a jason aldean concert. The final show last night when the shooting broke out. Automatic weapon fire. The gunman is dead along with at least 50 others. The gunman was killed but not before he was able to kill 50 people be maybe more and injure 200 others because it took 10 being maybe 20 minutes by some accounts for the gunman to stop firing when police were able to findly locate the hotel room that he was shooting from which is pretty much the view we have now in the Mandalay Bay Hotel. This were able to bust into the room and kill him. We have witness accounts throughout the morning. We have video from the concert goers that were from the morning. Right now, lets listen to one of those people who was at the concert. Were just trying to put into words what we just experienced. We cant. We cant come one it. It is like watching a war movie that you feel like you went through it, you were witnessing something that was fictional and it didnt really happen but it did. We stepped over the bodies. We saw the people. We saw the heart wrenching sadness from relatives grabbing hold of their loved ones. And you saw the chaos, the disbelief. And the complete stress and disbelief is the word. Police say the shooter was shot and killed on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel which is right across the street. The gunman opening fire with an automatic weapon as jason aldean was performing on the final night of this threeday concert series. There are about 30,000 people in the crowd being fired upon with nowhere to go. The shooter now being identified as 64yearold Stephen Paddock. That death toll may rise this morning. We want to find out more about this gunman who at this point was 64 years old and lived in a Retirement Community we want to know how of his able for 10 or 20 minute to shoot those weapons. This is the update associated with the events that took place earlier tonight. Just a matter of recall. At 10 00 p. M. Last night, we started receiving calls of an active shooter at route 91 Harvest Festival located adjacent to the manned hay bay resort. We were receiving information that there was an active shooter firing round from the 32nd floor. That individuals that were attending the festival, the number is estimated to be 22,000, were being struck by those rounds. Currently, the Clark County Fire Department is estimating the injuries to be well over 400 and the deaths associated with this event to be over 50. I cant give you an exact number yet because we are still investigating some of the areas involved in the event where the concert was taking place and we are still exiting individuals that were hidden and it is just a matter of a process. It will take quite eye while for us to get through the evacuation phase and then eventually we will have an assessment on the injuries associated with that. Now, our suspect was identified as Stephen Craig paddock, 64 years old, a white male from mesquite nevada. We have no information associated with this individual that is derogatory. He received a citation several years ago and that citation was handled as a matter of normal practice in the court system. Some important things that i need to get out. The family reunification still is taking place here at the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police department headquarters. So any individuals that are looking for answers for their family members or friend are wick to come here and we will provide the information as we get t the fbi is vital in the assistance of this investigation as a matter of help. That was an update coming to us live from las vegas that the man who shot and kidnapped at least 50 People Killed himself by the time Law Enforcement busted into the hotel room and found him. So far, we have more than 50 people dead and at least 400 people injured from this martian shooting at the route 91 Harvest Country festival. 22,000 people in attendance at the concert will the shots rang out from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel, the shooter breaking out the window and firing shots into these concert goers. And the rapid rounds as police found ten guns in the mans room. The shooter identified as Stephen Paddock, 64 years old. Theyre try to go determine a motive for the shooting. Should they stay where they are, get under something, run . The airport is close by and some people wound up running on to the runway of the airport to get away from the shots being fired. The shots just kept coming. And so we were going down and whether we got down, there was a man that was shot right there. They were trying to take him out. He was bloody and unconscious. One of my friends was helping him out. And they got him out. And we ran. And everybody is hiding everywhere. Theyre hiding under the bleachers and anywhere they could. Everyone is telling us to run as fast as we can. My husband and i ran toward our car. They were people hiding underneath my car for cover. And that was jason aldean who was the performer. He was singing when this happened. Heres a statement he issued this morning. Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still dont know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that me and my crew are safe. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involve. It hurts my heart this would happen to anyone coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. And chris young also performing at the festival. And he tweeted, im not going to say anything else another than im lucky to be alive as are many others and so many people are gone. Its heart break k. And this concert having up to 30,000 people, all of the people had cell phones. Some of them shooting up from the ground. Theres barriers there. People had to make it through the crowd. Some died or are injured. Some made it through and had to get over a fengsed area. Some people had to climb over wire fencing that cut them. So they could have been injured in many ways. Thats why we have so many reports of so many people, well over 400, being injured. The shots were from the 327nd floor of the 32nd floor of the hotel. The windows do not open. He opened fire with the ten weapons in his possession. He killed himself as police were moving in. People are saying this shooting went on for ten plus minutes with brief breaks as the shooter reload or switched weapons. It was coming from across the street to the con ser goers concert goers below. This is a 15 plus acre site and you have the sells surrounded. And hotels vaunded. So they went floor by floor looking for the gunman. The whole hotel was on lockdown. He heard three or four shots and what sounded like rapid fire money gns. They started shutting down the casinos and started moving people out. We tried to go to our rooms and they shut down did elevators. Did the shots appear to be coming from the upper levels . There are Police Officers off duty and maybe on duty that were and the shooter killed himself. We just found that out this morning. He was in a he tell room at the mandalay bay on the 32nd floor. By the time the s. W. A. T team got to him, he had killed himself. The death toll the expected to climb. At least 50 right now. There were 22,000 people in attendance at the route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival. Were waiting on more information about the shooter. What was his motive and why did he do this. More on the search of the gunmans home. The gunman lived in mesquite, nevada, about 80 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. They have a search warrant. But going through his home is going to be a slow process. And that came out from a News Conference about ten minutes ago. The reason why its going to be a very slow process and heres video from the scene. Just chilling. They are fearful that his home could be set up with possible explosives. They have to take that into consideration. It will take a long time before they can make entry to find possibly other weapons or a note describing the motive behind the shooting. A little bit more information on this as well. They have cleared marilou danley. After the shooting, they were desperately serlging for her believing she could possibly be connected to the shooter and connected to the shooting. But they have tracked her down and they believe she is out of the country and since then she has been cleared of any connection to the shooting. They believe that the shooter used her identification in some form to carry out the shooting. Stephen paddock is 64 years old and they believe he was at the mandalay bay since september 28th. He had at least ten rifles in the room. Theyre not sure how he told the guests, the people who go into your room to clean the rooms, why they were not allowed to go inside. Thats part of the investigation. And were learning they killed himself. Authorities used explosives to make entry into the room. They believe that he shot and killed himself. Now there is information out there looking for Stephen Paddock, some video, anything, any tips. The fbi is taking information and calls from the public. Its a very easy number for anybody with information to call. Its 1800call fbi. The fbi is helping the local authorities and housing the information and working in conjunction with the Las Vegas Police department. The number is 1800 call fbi. The authorities are now at Stephen Paddocks home about 80 miles from las vegas in mesquite, nevada. They do not believe he had an extensive criminal history. I was listening to an fbi specialist. He said that for him to ask for a high floor, in this case the 32nd floor, would not stantd p stand out because a stand out because a lot of people would get rooms facing a concert area. So a request for a high room would not stand out for them to question the motive. Another thing they want to look into is how he got all of those rifles into his room without anyone noticing. Something else that come to go mind is isis put out a video o in may calling for a lone wolf shooter in las vegas. You have to wonder if there is a terrorism connection forits someone with mental issues or do or inflict its someone with mental issues or domestic terrorism. Round after round went off. We know the shooter is 64yearold Stephen Paddock, a retired gentleman who killed himself. The big question ask what was the motive and why. Will is following that story. Reporter at this point, they dont have a motive. They have gone sto his house in mesquite, nevada, about 80 miles from the Las Vegas Strip hoping to gain entr try to his home. They entry to his home. They say it will be a slow process to get into the home because there might be exprose explosives. We got our hands on a picture of him. He had been at the mandalay bay for several days. When they found him, he killed himself in his room as the Police Officers used explosives to break down the door. He had at least ten rifles with him. They dont know what they will find in the home. There was another person that they thought might have been connected to Stephen Paddock. Her name is marilou danley. She has been contacted. Shes actually out of the country and they believe that she is no longer a person of interest, that paddock used her face dags to carry out the mass d identification to carry out the massacre. 22,000 people at the concert. Stephen paddock has no criminal history that stands out to the authorities. They had a News Conference about 40 minutes ago and said he had a citation a few years ago and that was handled by the dort system. There was court system. There was nothing that jumped out to them to indicate he would carry out something as violent at this. Stephen paddock they believe was the lone gunman in this. 64 years old and right now authorities have a search warrant for his home in mesquite, nevada, about 80 miles from the strip. It will be a slow process. Many people reached out saying why isnt this called frichl e terrorism. According to the police department. They say its easy for the general public to say this or that. But according to them to fall under the guidelines of terrorism before they start throwing that word out, it has to meet certain requirements. Because the investigation is very early on, theyre not calling Stephen Paddock a terrorist or this terrorism just yet. Certainly the definition of terrorism is ever changing as we now surpass the pulse nightclub shooting as the deadliest mass shooting in u. S. History. When you terrorize people, it is one definition. And these people were like fish in a bowl. The gunman is 32 stories up in a different building and they had no idea where the gun fire was coming from. Now do we change the way we do security everywhere around big events . We have lots of big events here. Think about the super bowl and bay area runs. We dont do security that way. Wi dont putd everything under lock down near an event. Its impossible to prepare for every situation or think of every sobl situation skch think of possible situation and think of everything. If theres a Silver Lining to this event, it is the humanity of the event. Its everybody helped everyone. Everybody was fiepding a finding a way to help people. There was no chaos in trampling or leaving the event. The people injured were ones directly hit by bullet s. These were not trampling injuries. People running around going i have another injured one. And it took a while for paramedics to get there. Im not blaming any First Responders action im the supporter. But you wanted them there as quick as possible and they werent there. Where is everybody . We have way too many injuries and there werent enough supplies or towels or band aids, bandages, doctors that we could find. Everybody that had any kind of experience is chipping in everything to help. And that was an interview from earlier this morning. He was the mc of the event. They may want help when it comes to doctors and nurses and definitely blood and all of the transfusions as more than 400 people are injured.
