We have the bike Share Network one by lyft and they have been having problems the last few month. Three or foumonths ago they had problems with brakes on the electric assist bicycles. Ry these are popular in San Francisco because of our hills. So, they had to take lf the bikes off the street. They just introduced a new fleet. These bikes ha pink wheels. A few days after that the batteries died and they took bios again. What we are seeing is a little unusual. A full bike rack. If there had been one where i was, i would have written a bike here. A lot of these bikes have signs on them. What is the earrant with San Francisco and the bay area . Is a bit complicated. Here is what is happened. This company made an exclusive agreement wie metropolitan transportation district. Is the agency that handles funding arfor transportation projects in the bay are with this agreement it cov ed San Francisco and san jose and eeryville. Put these bikes on the street with expensive docking stations and they towould want pick up all of the cost and we would enjoy the benefits. There is some dissatisfaction here in San Francisco because month of the bike shortag we can reverse engineer the numbers and the ridership fo revenuethe system last year was about 3 million. Lyft is a very big company. They just went public this year. They spend hundreds of millions of dollars, and in fact they reported a loss for the most ayrecent quarter yesteclose to 900 million for the quarter. So, 3 million isnt real big in the scheme of things. Its not just the revenue stream. There is more. What they get from thir customers is the data. E though its not personally identifiable data they get a lot of information about pe les travel patterns and peoples credit card nuers and a lot of consumer data they want or someone el wants that they can sell. Longterm that may be the real financial situation for these two big players like lyft and uber. It is these consumers walking by on the sidewalk. Anybody that uses these services, that is one thing they are giving up. They can petell where le are going. It actually helps them in their business knowing where they need to serve peopleand it can inform decisions about Consumer Behavior and where people are going and when and the sorts of services and goods they are looking for. A these s are spread throughout downtown. Sometimes we close t or have indoor venues and its an undertaking that involves the whole community. City partners and other folks, too. Ere has been ups and downs in the past 30 years. How has san jose jazz and thrived . We did change the beer Business Model. It was originally a free festival and we have adapted to a gated festival with different ticket levels. The Business Model is a something we need to move in this direction and also the hi demogr of the valley. There new communities that me d our programming has been staying abreast of that. We will have zydeco and mariachi and there is great bali would project. There is a wide range that we n are repreng. Jazz is such a broad realm we do a lot of atin jazz and there is a swing stage and our jazz yond programming. Its an opportunity for folks straight terest, an ahead fans will find a lot of straight ahead jazz as well. When you expand into ude the world of r and b, for example, are there economic reasons .
