The walnut creek bart station is back open after crews rescued a person who was stuck. Under the train. It happened around 11 00 this morning, firefighters were able to pull them off the tracks and transport them onto an ambulance their condition is not yet known. One person is dead after a car crashed into a tree and then caught fire in fremont. It happened overnight on fremont boulevard between thornton avenue and peralta boulevard. Another person was injured so far, no word on a cause. In San Francisco rideshare drivers rallied outside the state Supreme Court building the court is hearing arguments today on prop 22. Cbs News Business analyst Jill Schlesinger says now is the time to get their Money Matters in order. Now that colleges over graduates need to come up with a payment plan for those Student Loans start by detailing what you owe the loans interest rate, the monthly amount and when the 1st payment is due, there is usually a grace period of 6 to 9 months during which you are not required to make payments. But since the interest clock is ticking start as soon as possible. If you have a federal loan and are having trouble paying it, consider an income driven repayment plan, which can reduce the monthly amount by extending the period of time you have to repay the loan. If youre starting a new job where the employer provides Health Insurance look at your options. High deductible plan through work can be more affordable. Or it may be cheaper to stay on your Parents Health plan, which you can do until age 26. Finally even though cashflow maybe tight if that new job includes a Retirement Savings plan, try to contribute to it at least up to the company match. If theres a roth option for retirement use that because paying taxes up front on contributions now while youre in a low tax bracket will likely pay off in the future. Because a lot of these folks have been in academia. Which is a whole different environment than actually being in the workplace. What sort of special skills do you think all these kids need to know . All these graduates need to know before they enter the workplace. Okay . You know the transition after graduation, although really excite can also be really strong. Its always been because ive had a really Amazing Community of mentors and supporters behind me, a standout student who had several extracurriculars to keep her busy. The decision she faces is 1 many students would end the her choice of admission to 4 selective colleges across the country. I think thats how 1st generation scholars can really succeed is with the support of everyone around them is part of the 2024 class of dave. Goldberg scholars. Program from the sandberg. Goldberg bernthal family foundation. Launched several years ago to help low income 1st gen students get to college and succeed once they go there. The program expanded into 2023 to partner with peninsula bridge. A nonprofit that pose Promising Students from more than 50 schools between san mateo and Mountain View in 4th grade and mentors them up until their College Graduation. We really do believe that all of our scholars deserve deserve a chance to thrive and succeed, and each 1 has the potential. To be successful on the college and career path with our 13 year program model, the Dave Goldberg scholarship. Provides a life changing amount of Financial Support by paying for all the costs around college. Like transportation supplies and opportunities to study and do Research Outside of a college campus. There are so many additional costs the College Financing pieces so difficult for 1st gen. And a representative steube. And there are so many barriers to being a Successful College students. Students like malaria are grateful and say it fuels their passion to advocate for more access to higher education. She plans to study sociology in college. So she can have an impact on the Community Around her the lessons that i learned the lessons that i take away from this experience are the lessons that i pass on, and thats how you create generational knowledge, and ill tell you also create generational success. Passion to be the 1st with a commitment. To help others. So she isnt the last and still ahead a big promise to hundreds of students in oakland.
