Bay area pilot charged with attempted murder for trying to shut down a planes engine. Causing any issues in the back right now. An emergency landing. There were no injuries. It seems like after one moment of going a little bit overboard. Reporter passenger Jessica Verilli tweeted, i was on this flight last night with my two kids. Thank god everyone is okay. Emerson is a married father of two who is seen here visiting sick kids in the hospital in photos posted to facebook. It seems like a really nice guy. Nothing abnormal about him. Hes very caring. He loves his kids. He is very nice to our grandson. It is very shocking like anything thats out of the norm basically that something this big is very shocking basically. Sara madsen lives near emerson. Its really shocking. Im glad they were able to take care of everything and not jeopardize the passengers. Reporter alaska airlines, which owns horizon air released a statement saying the jump seat occupant unsuccessfully attempted to disrupt the operation of the engines. The horizon captain and first officer quickly responded. Engine power was not lost and the crews secured the aircraft without incident. The airline also said no weapons were involved. The faa told airlines the incident was not connected to current world events. There is no word on a motive. And the fbi and police are still investigating. Robberies and breakins are so common in one oakland neighborhood. Boards on the windows have become a kind of permanent fixture at some shops and the shop owners and managers are fed up. Tonight this Surveillance Video shows exactly what they are up against. A liquor store inside the Lincoln Square Shopping Center caught the moment three people were stealing bottles and were tussling with an employee who was trying to fend them off with a stick. And then one suspect set off a fire extinguisher, spraying it all over the store. The owner says this happened almost a week ago, but nearby businesses in Redwood Heights say they are fed up too. The manager of the chevron nearby says they have had three break ins in the last few weeks. Tried to break in to that. And so usually we leave that drawer wide open. And they can see through the window. We leave the shutters open. Less than 200 worth of stuff. And about 8,000 worth of damage on the windows. And that is not the first time that it is just happening over and over again. Reporter but that manager tried to call Oakland Police while someone was still inside the store, but they didnt show up until the next day. They say they are trying everything they can to deter crime in the area. But a lot of Business Owners want more police presence. We have reached out to Oakland Police who say their burglary unit was looking into it and that they would get back to us. While oakland has been dealing with issues like that, first fridays has been considered one of its big success stories. It grew from a neighborhood art walk in 2006 to an event that brings tens of thousands of people into downtown oakland every month. But today organizers say they need to stop the event for a while because of financial issues. They made the announcement today on social media and said first fridays would be closed from january 2024 to march. Its probably a big blow to local performers, artists, and food vendors, especially those without brickandmortar stores who rely on business from first fridays. Organizers say they are looking for sponsors and donations. Weve reached out to them late tonight, and well let you know when we hear back. Even if you could not reliably bet on the results of this football game, it wasnt upset after all. You cannot be sure niners fans are upset tonight after a pretty shocking loss to the vikings on monday night football. So vern, it feels like such an abrupt turn itaround from when we had that perfect record to 52. Whats going on . Long season, sara, long season. Those are the numbers you need if you want to be the no. 1 in the nfc. We have poor tackling. Niners drives halted by turnovers, missed field goals, selfinflicted penalties. What sounds like last week in cleveland, a lot to unpack tonight. One narrative, a tale of two players. Kirk cousins, the 49ers made him look like a hall of fame quarterback, didnt they . And quarterback brock purdy. Hes going to be everyones punching bag this week. 2130, 272 yards and two massive interceptions on the teams last two drives. And both by cameron bynum, parading through some guys. The former cal bear was there. And there is one with over five minutes left where they got that ball back. They moved that football. And the last half minute, bynum was there again. I just forced it. Weve only got one. Its hard to win when your mind is in the turnover battle. Thats the number one thing in football. Well watch that. And the blame is not on purdy for throwing ten interceptions. We could have made plays in other places. Losing sucks, losing is the worst, its awful. But its a game were going to bounce back from, were going to learn from it, were going to grow from it. At the end of the day, like i said, weve got ten more days ahead of us. And so the season is not over yet. Why not . All right, the label on kirk cousins. Could not win the big one in prime time. 378 yards, two touchdowns. And was not sacked. After the turnover hit Jordan Anderson for the vikings first score. Seven balls, 123 yards. And those are the back breakers right there and a 60yard scoring play right before half time to make it 167. Back to the locker room. Now only pat mahomes had more yards in the last season. And so a short week now as they have the bengals coming to santa clara on sunday. And the niners defense gave up 452 yards, ouch. Not great. If that is indicative of anything, they dont seamstressed or worried. Got to have shortterm memory. All right, thank you so much. Okay, his plate said will run, and he did, but he made a reckless move that landed him in custody. And so is San Francisco on a path to fail . And to just bash them as i dont feel dangerous. A look at both sides of the heated debate about the citys future. For the first widespread rain of the season yesterday, the sunshine returned today and tonight the fog is trying to return. Well track that as we head through the rest of tonight. Well take a look at big changes that led to this week. Its in the first alert forecast. All right, paul, thank you. And those late night cravings could be pretty specific. A look at some of the strangest requests of the year for one food delivery service. Has been advising israel to delay a planned Ground Invasion into gaza in order to negotiate the release of more hostages. But the military is getting ready for an operation by air, ground, and sea. So far about 28 aid trucks have been allowed in, but they need about 100 of those a day to meat the desperate need there. Google is disabling live traffic information out of the consideration for safety. Back here in the bay area, chp says a teen driver with a provocative license plate that said will run, tried to run from them, but instead crashed. On friday, santa rosa chp tried to pull over an 18yearold, but he drove away. That teen tried to pass. Both cars were smashed. And they had moderate injuries. The 18yearold was booked into jail on multiple felony charges. You have no doubt seeing a lot of talk about the demise of San Francisco pointing to homelessness, crime, vacancies, and downtown offices. You might even be a doom loop believer yourself, thinking the city will never pull out of the spiral it seems to be in, but not everyone is convinced that San Francisco is circling the train. They show us it could start to sound like dueling realities as this debate gets intense. The bottom of it is a slightly lower temperature that is there to kind of get that rise started. And the door is open for another day at out of sight pizza, just celebrating their first birthday. It is crazy that it has only been a year. Reporter coowner peter doren says it has not been easy opening the business in the heart of San Franciscos tenderloin. Challenges in this neighborhood have made headlines around the world. Headlines that flat out describes San Francisco as a failed city. It feels good to be down here. I dont feel scared or dangerous. I dont like that doom loop from the news. The people that actually live and work and fight for the city dont have that feeling. I got here in the late 80s, the aids epidemic. People were dying left and right. The murder rate was three times higher than it was today. And you know, we came back. Reporter jim osman isnt having any doom loop either, jumping into the ferocious online battle over the state of the city, arguing that the failed city is actually fiction spun by those only looking at the problem. And to just bash them and pictures of the tenderloin and they say oh, this is San Francisco. Look at dolores park. And you say they are doing great, better than ever. And that is a different story, right . And it is not the same place that im used to, you know . Reporter she does live here most of her life. I have been here for many years. And it is not the same place that i remember. Not at all. Not at all. Reporter and since the city has changed or taken a step backwards, that is something you hear often and from different places. Earlier this year, i met jeffrey who is living on the streets. And he offered this assessment of the city. And San Francisco is not what it used to be by any means. I was intimidated, but it wasnt, it was like a nice city and nice people here, and it still is. But its not like post pandemic. Reporter if you have heard this discussion, and im guessing you have, you know it could sound like two different realities as people offer up diverging takes on whats actually happening in San Francisco. My sense is that what someone makes of the state of the city has a lot to do with who they are, where they are, and what direction they are looking. Are you comparing now to 2019 . Are you comparing now to 1979 . I think theres a lot of room for cross talk here. And this debate can get very heated as it gets pulled into the gravity of San Francisco politics. What youre getting at is probably the most important thing right now and that we, you know, we create groups and we create them, right . Hes a Political Science professor who says the angry politics are the byproduct of a city that is facing a long list of very complicated problems. And is it the police, government . Incompetence . Is it outsiders, tech people coming here, changing things . None of those are easy solutions, and i think that people are very frustrated by that. And it has been hard times in the city. Even those who reject the doom loop idea acknowledge there are big challenges. I think downtown is going to get worse before they get better. Yeah, we have our problems, of course, but every mayor city has their problems. Reporter the scale of the problems may be a matter of the doom loop failed city or the city on the rebound time will provide more headlines and eventually some answers. And after what was a pretty hot week last week, we saw something that we have not seen in a while, rain, and it seems like a good amount of rain actually in some places given a time of year and what we are used to . Exactly. Its the first widespread rain that weve seen across the bay area. Generally. 10 to. 75 inches. And picked up barely more than a trace. Some spots in the north bay picked up more than half an inch. That left us for today. The calm weather pattern returning back to normal temperatures today. It will last one more day. And then some bigger changes that are taking shape as the storm system is off the map to the north, dropping down quickly. Its going to miss us with most of the energy and most of the moisture, but it is going to significantly impact temperatures around the bay area. We do have another day of nearly full sunshine in stored for us which means we will make the most of limited daylight at this time of the year. And that is enough to generate a fair amount of solar power and dent those numbers with the clouds around us. They will remain pretty low overall. And it is not going to last long. That is when we will see more of that cloud cover sticking in to start the day on wednesday before they thicken on wednesday afternoon with a lot of gray. A lot of the clouds will be elevated, which means they dont block the sun, they just filter it out. In terms of any green, that will stay up to the north. We should be clearing out Late Wednesday night and thursday before the other wave of cooler air will head our way, which will stick around into the weekend. We wont see any precipitation, but they will add up the snow and hey, youve got to start somewhere, where they are all excited to see the flakes flying, even though it wont be enough to affect travel on i80. Clear skies overhead as temperatures are backing down and we will end up in the 50s, which is normal for this time of the year and the coolest locations dropping down into the upper 40s. And then we warm up. Temperatures will be 3 to 5 degrees in the santa clara valley. If you like the warm october temperatures, savor it and upper 70s for fremont and upper 60s and the low 70s. You wont be quite as warm as other parts of the bay area where you will still make it up and close to 80 degrees for one more day as we have those big changes kicking in. And youll go from 80 degrees roughly with a mix of the 70s and the 80s tomorrow, down to about 70 degrees on wednesday. And were not done dropping. By the time we hit the end of the workweek, inland temperatures will be in the mid60s. Thats more of a mid to late november. And it wont drop significantly. And there we go, settling into the mid60s as well. Not much difference between San Francisco and oakland verses inland parts of the bay area as we head into the weekend. Again, more of a thanksgiving weather pattern as opposed to the weekend before halloween. Along the coast, look at this. Youll spend a couple of days with the highs in the upper 50s. Friday and saturday. Even the next wave of cooler air isnt going to have much moisture to work with. Just looking at a 20 to 30 chance for a couple showers on friday and friday night. All right, thank you. You have waited a long time to see the dubs back in action, but wait no longer. How the team is getting ready for their Season Opener at chase, vern. And he doves fans have something to look forward to as they are getting ready inside chase tonight. All the shirts are being laid out for the fans expected to fill up the seats. And he has not played in front of the home crowd since 2019. Got to make it far. So i think it will be a good season. And yeah, they are kind of stacked. It will be exciting as i was there. And it will raise on the regular season without their forward, green, as he builds strength. And the segway from that to baseball and game seven. The winner of the world series, what a night for garcia, and two home runs, and they won to advance to the world series and his first year with the club. The rangers are the third Different Team he has taken to the fall classic. It is great to be here. Its unreal that im here to be honest. I was sitting at the house for thee years. One Company Keeps track to tell us the most popular food items people are ordering direct to their doorsteps. We do talk about food a lot at the end of the show.
