Are among the dead, and 15 remain unaccounted for. Some could be among the hostages reportedly being held by hamas in gaza. Israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu shared this video of meeting with soldiers. The deadline for palestinians to flee was up yesterday. The only way out is the crossing on the egyptian border. Egypt claims after opened the crossing, but they dont know how anyone will get through because the bombings have destroyed the roads on the gaza side. A number of countries and organizations like red cross have sent humanitarian aid that also would need to go through the the same crossing. Egypt says its working to make that happen. As the violence continues in israel, here in the bay area, hundreds gathered at the Ferry Building in San Francisco to protest israels bombing of gaza. John ramos has that story. Reporter its often said that the First Casualty in any war of the truth, but if theres one thing that is true, that you can bank on, is that both sides in this dispute feel the other side started it. The war continues within israel following the organized bloody attacks by hamas a week ago. Israel is now responding with nearly nonstop missile attacks on the palestinians living in gaza. Hundreds of innocent civilians have paid the price. Free, free palestine reporter but theres another war going on in this country, a war of words as both sides make their case to the world that whatever their side did is somehow justified. On this day, a huge group of palestinians and their supporters rallied in the plaza across from San Franciscos Ferry Building. Were witnessing a genocide on television literally. 2,000 Palestinian Civilians have been slaughtered. 600 of them children. Theres 2. 3 Million People in gaza now because most of these people were evicted forcefully from their homeland. This is the, this is the, um, the source of the conflict. Reporter while the world was revulsed by the barbaric attack by hamas, israels actions are seen as an act of vengeance on a people rather than attack on a terrorist group. Israel is a state not a religion. By judaism isnt determined by israel. By judaism knows what genocide looks like, and it looks like whats going on in gaza. What theyre doing is wrong. They have to find a different way. Thats really more on israel than anyone else. Reporter if Public Opinion is swinging against israels bombing of gaza, its not unexpected. At a Community Meeting last sunday, the head of the Jewish Relations Council warned about it. In may 2021, as a Similar Campaign of rockets was going off and israel took care of the Hamas Terrorists launching them, Public Opinion turned sharply against the idf, against israel, and we have to be ready for that. We know thats going to happen. So lets be sure to remind the world what these people did. Reporter Public Opinion matters because both sides see the importance of u. S. Support. The israelis want it to continue, the palestinians want it to end. And each side insists theyre the holders of truth. Ive seen the news here in america, what theyve put, and i get really sad to see the lies they spread. Reporter the more sources of information that exist, the less anyone trusts them. Meanwhile, the killing of innocents continues with both sides saying they only want peace. Syria says israels strikes hit near aleppo. Israel says it shelled lebanon after coming under fire from the group hezbollah. Israeli tanks remain near the border tonight. The strikes took place between the disputed territory of lebanon, israel, and syria. President biden spent an hour on friday speaking to the families of the american citizens still unaccounted for. Some are believed to be in captivity. In an interview with 60 minutes, the president talked about the efforts to get them out. I say were going to do everything in our power, everything in our power. I wont go into the detail of that, but were working like hell on it. You can see more of that exclusive interview on americas role in the war tomorrow night at 7 00 here on kpix. Meanwhile here in oakland, a Furniture Store thats been in business for more than 30 years will close its doors for good in about a week. While some large retailers are blaming a rise in crime as a reason for closing stores, Katie Nielsen explains this nonprofit went out of its way to say that crime was not a factor. We dont have a warehouse or storage. So has to come in and has to go out. Reporter every day for 34 years, about two truck loads of donated furniture come in, and another two truck loads go out. People purchase it and have it delivered. Reporter everything in the store is second hand and donated. The store was originally started as a way to raise money for the nonprofit apedf or African Peoples education and defense fund, which invests in economic development, education, and Health Programs for communities of color. The expenses are now hitting the gross, and if we go any further well be owing money to the nonprofit, which is the complete opposite of what were designed to do. Reporter janine is the assistant manager and worked here since 19 years old in 1989. She says the furniture business is labor and fuel intensive. Two costs that have continued to climb over the past few years leading to the point that she and her colleagues made the tough decision to close with a message posted to social media late last week. I mean, people are coming in here just hugging us, just devastated and shock. I say shock is the main thing medium are experiencing. Reporter true for long time shopper robert perez when we asked him how he felt about the store closing. I did not hear that oh no reporter their last day is the 22nd. Oh my gosh, you know what . I did not even notice i am bummed oh no reporter perez will have to find another spot for vintage treasures, but the store managers refused to cut employee salaries to balance the boxes. It goes against the mission of the nonprofit, the same way it goes against the mission to blame increased crime for the store closing when they see it as an economic issue. People cant survive, and if they have to resort to crime to offset their living situation, its not the crime thats the problem. It is the economy thats the problem, and the fact that the economy does not take care of african and indigenous people. The last day for donations is tomorrow. The store closes for good on october 22nd. They note nothing is changing with the nonprofit, and theyll focus attention on fund raising in other areas. All lanes should open back up by 5 00 on monday. Still ahead at 6 00, giving the green light to speed cameras in california. The new law giving some bay area cities a new tool to improve safety on the roads. And later, california salt marshes provide critical protection to coastal communities, but theyre disappearing at an alarming rate. How scientists are hoping to reverse that trend. And all kinds of clouds in our sky today after that cold front came through and did drop a little bit of rain in the north bay. Theres another chance for that on monday. But it doesnt even look at impressive as this morning. The real issue is what comes after that. The 90s are coming back. When and who gets them in the forecast next. He actually wrapped up everything yesterday, and one bill would allow speed cameras to be installed in certain bay area cities. Heres the breakdown. Reporter governor gavin newsom has signed a bill into law that will allow the use of speed cameras in the state. San francisco, san jose, and oakland along with three other cities in Southern California will now be able to pilot speed camera programs. The law will allow San Francisco to install 33 cameras across the city. The organization walk San Francisco has been a supporter of the bill since the beginning. Walk sfs executive director jodie believes the new law will really help improve safety on city streets. Weve seen it work in other places. Places like new york city have brought down speeding around the cameras by almost 60 . Reporter the Pilot Program will begin in 2025 here in the city and run for five years. The cameras will be placed on streets with the highest crash rates as well as school zones. Jodie told me while shes happy the program is going into effect, its just one of several strategies the city needs to prioritize to make San Francisco streets safer. I mean, this is one tool in our tool box, right . A city like San Francisco has a lot of other tools. This is one tool, um, and it is a layered effect, right . We cant just put one thing out there that is going to cure our speeding problem. It is a multilayer need in a city that has a serious problem. Reporter according to walk sf, 14 pedestrians have been killed in the city this year, and hundreds more injured. In addition to the speed cameras, the organization is pushing the city to ban cars from turning right on red lights and from parking near intersections. Jodie says she believes the city still has a long way to go to make the streets as safe as possible, but this law will definitely help. This is, you know, something that we, um, have been working on and believe that its going to change the way that people drive and really realize that, you know, its not acceptable to be speeding in a very dense neighborhoodbased city like San Francisco. Reporter specific locations for the 33 cameras have not yet been chosen. The city is expected to work with local communities to create the program guidelines. A coalition called oakland privacy says having speed cameras isnt the best way to address speeding, and the Pilot Program will cost a lot of money. They sent us a statement saying a lot, not all speeding is related to bad road design and lack of traffic calming features, which is especially present in inner city low income neighborhoods with traditionally low levels of public investment. According to data from the political news site california globe, the state Legislature Passed 1,046 bills this session. Governor newsom signed 890 of them. About 85 . He vetoed the rest. Well, now for more on our weather. Those interesting clouds. Do we get to see them again . It looks almost as good as the graphic for the first alert with the big clouds. Like, we never have clouds like that here no we had them today. Its so interesting how they just sat still. Let me show you what shes talking about. Lenticular clouds, they is it perfectly still. The wind is moving through, and theyre the dark ones back here. Youll see them, the other clouds get out of the way you can see them out there. When you have strong winds coming over hills like angel island or the topography of marin, the air is forced upwards, and you dont see a cloud when it goes down on the other side. The cloud is still and the wind whips through it. And did you see thebig puffy clouds developing today . We didnt get any rain out of them this afternoon, but we did get a little this morning. A couple hundredths of an inch. Ill play this again. Then the third actor will enter the stage, and theres the marine layer. A third very different kind of cloud. Then theres cirrus clouds way up there moving a totally different direction. This was just a fascinating day to watch clouds. And boy is it going to be a side effect for rain on monday. Heres another chance from another cold front. Probably with the same kind of make up. When we look at the big picture, you can see the next system right there. That one gets developed, gets organized, sits right there by monday. It will be fueled by a moderate strength Atmospheric River. That means moderate rain for oregon. We wont get any of this. You can see the impressive line pulled to our north. Well get the Southern Branch of it on monday, and watch what happens as the Southern Branch finally comes our way. It falls apart like nothing. Each time thats happened, weve gotten a little rain in the north bay. It looks like this next one coming on monday does the same thing. Were still locked into that pattern. Once that passes, theres no more rain in the forecast, and instead, there is a noticeable warm up. Heres tomorrow, which will have more sunshine. No cloud show tomorrow. The daytime highs in the low 80s inland. Look at the difference when we advance it to thursday. Thats where the low 90s are. So its going to turn on pretty fast. But its not going to last long. By friday we start to cool back down again. If you look at the sevenday forecast, youll see how it progresses. Oakland, mid70s tomorrow. Youll be mid80s by wednesday and thursday. When we look at the north bay valleys, you will feel this. Low 90s on thursday, then back to 84 friday, and mid70s saturday. So there will be a fast drop on the other side of those 90s. Williams is blocking for christian mccaffrey, but hes taking a lot of hits. Cmc is averaging nearly 20 carries a game not even counting his touches in the passing game. As run game coordinator Chris Forrester explains, its easier said than done to limit his workload. He didnt want to come off after the big hit on sunday. I think part of it was he wanted everyone to know hes okay. Were like lets get him out for a play, and he said im not coming out of the game. Because they just did that to me, i want a chance to get back at them. That was his mentality. Reporter how many players can do that . Say im not coming out. Not many. Theres a couple, but not many. But you trust him. Like do you need a rep . Hes like no, im good. Other times youre like hey, get over here. This is such a special group, but as we know, maybe the biggest hindrance could be injuries and help. Keeping christian healthy is priority number one. And theres a belief in the 49ers locker room that christian could be targeted, so yes, just keep him healthy. Trent williams has to block, kittle has to block. Well see how it goes.
