A lot like yesterday, pretty much doing average temperatures for daytime highs. Were going to warm right back up to the low 80s for most of our inland valleys and were not looking at any widespread fog issues out there. Although there are a few more low clouds this morning than yesterday, were not seeing it from the Vantage Point here looking out over downtown san jose. Where by the way, it is currently 56 degrees. Cooler than it is in morgan hill. 50 degrees for morgan hill at this point and 55 livermore and redwood city your number is 52. Keeping an eye on the coast as well. Halfmoon bay. The temperature out there on the map sitting in the 50s as well right now. The number is 59. San francisco you are hanging on to the 50s and inland Contra Costa County the numbers light in line with where you were yesterday at this time and in the north bay you can see the temperature there for santa rosa, temperature up there still coming in just a little bit cooler than many of the rest of the locations right in through the immediate heart of bay. Temperatures inpetaluma right now at 58 degrees. After doing daytime highs that are almost the same as yesterday were going to be around low 80s for inland spots and well be in the low 70s for much of the bay. Theres still this small opportunity for a chance of rain on saturday. Here we are. Its thursday. Were still looking at that small chance. Ill have more on that coming up in the complete forecast. If you are up early, nice conditions on the roadway right now. Heading into San Francisco. And getting just a bit of the overview here, you can see were seeing some pretty good spots here if you are headed along 880. No delays. All clear along 101. As far as delays go, there is a crash in san mateo but not causing a backup. Now we are seeing brake lights coming out of tracy for supercommuters. More on that coming up. Reed. All right, g, lets talk fire season. And the work to keep you safe where you live. Your community station watching Contra Costa Countys approval of consolidating the east county Protection District to con fire. Its all with the goal to protect smaller communities and were talking about brentwood and oakley. So when you drill down on that strategy, its really to make sure that people get help and get there fast. So Shawn Chitnis is live this morning with the Community Moves for safety. Shawn, i read something this morning that you wrote. That there were only nine firefighters to protect 120,000 people before this change . Reed, thats correct. That just really helps to appreciate why this is such an issue and already seeing the improvement as of this summer. The stations throughout the county already have better staffing. And thats because of this one agency for the whole county approach and allows them to better staff throughout Contra Costa County. And its important that this is in place because we are still in that critical danger period of wildfire season. Until those winter rains begin. Reporter hoover spent part of her childhood in bay point and chose to come back to buy a home last year. This is my community. This is a staple that i always want to have in bay point. So i was excited and a little apprehensive. Reporter she remembers the limited resources that pushed her family to leave when she was growing up. And had concerns about what would be there for her now. My major worry was that we wouldnt have First Responders in a timely fashion. Reporter leaders at con fire thought about this issue too. One of this things i worry about is not just the first fire. But its the second fire and the third fire. Reporter the eastern half of the county had tens of thousands of residents relying on just a few resources. Firefighters were getting ran into the ground and not able to adequately protect our communities as a whole. Reporter so unifying contra costa and east contra costa fire Protection Districts only made sense. Previously only using resources from central contra costa that had the surge in about york and pittsburgh and then far east. Theres a huge benefit even for central county residents that the far east county can now sad on its own. Reporter this summer a recent example of the progress theyve made, happened right across the street from where hoover nullifies. Any anxiety was at ease to know the Fire Department came and they handed i would quickly. Reporter challenging old view of her community and building a stronger connection among those who live here and the people who protect them. It helped me realize that were not a forgotten population. That, you know, were not too small. For folks to remember that were here and we deserve safety. Reporter and that certainly is a great feeling for her now. Con fire says that they want to build on this by adding more stations under this new approach. And really just emphasize that its not only about having firefighters in this particular stations, but the ability to move people around. So while donald trump skipped the debate, writing a wide lead in the polls of republican voters, his rivals jockeyed for traction and differentiation. In the next half hour, were going to also watch for the california arrival of Florida Governor ron desantis in piedmont for a fundraiser with tech executives. House republicans will try to answer the question of connectivity between the al graces against hunter biden. Republicans will try to answer the question of why they think this inquiry is warranted. Do they have the evidence . Democrats are insist sent that after months of investigations, republicans have really come up short. Being able to connect the president to his sons troubles. But get this, a Government Shutdown could jeopardize some of the Main Attractions that we all see every year. Of course were talking about that iconic blue angels air show. The annual celebration is set to kick off monday in San Francisco and organizers tell us at the moment, theyre Going Forward with everything as planned but they are on standby. So sad to know that this could affect something that is such a joy in the bay area. Its such a tradition. I take my kids every year to see the performance and also a celebration of our men and women in service. And opportunities to learn about the ships and what they do. Darren, normally wed be talking about fleet week weather. But right now, thats in limbo. Good morning my friend. I know, and normally fleet week weather is a big concern right before we lead up to it. It was last year because the marine layer was such an impact. It really did kind of have a factor on the show some of them had to be delayed or shortened. Here we are and it looks like thats probably not going to be a problem. This year. Were not really looking at the marine layer as a big part of the forecast over the next several days. Instead were going to watch for small chance of rain and another weak fall weather system coming back to Northern California. Still have that small chance maybe of light rain. And well get you that in one second. Lets get you ready first for this thursday morning. Temperatures almost identical to where they were yesterday at this time of day. Were in the mid 50s for most of the south bay and its 55 in livermore. Redwoodcitys numbers sitting in the low 50s and the temperatures for inland Contra Costa County are also pretty much tracking with where you were yesterday. Were going to watch the north bay numbers and got one location for the entire map thats dipped doing into the 40s. And that would be petaluma at this point. Pretty typical. All right, daytime highs for today. For the most part theyre going right back up to average again. With more sunshine than anything else. So lets take a moment and look past tomorrow before we get to tomorrows daytime highs. Because i want you to see the system working its way here perhaps by saturday. If we look out in the pacific its all the way out here, see how theres a little kink in the clouds . We have to look at the water vapor to find this thing. All the way out there. Im going to put it in the futurecast and watch that little band there and a small chance of rain sitting off the coast by the time we get to the weekend. Now getting close enough to this we can use the High Resolution models to get a visual depiction on what it might look like. See the rain across the state coming in . Very spotty. Its kind of like it could move through and youd get some rain. In parts of the state. And maybe not over the bay. But the best way to do it is to color in the map for where the potential is for accumulated rain and were still looking at maybe 0. 1 on saturday. So its still by no means any kind of a blockbuster storm. But the possibility is there for at least a few showers. So which is why were going to leave behind the forecast in terms of what it looks like in terms of accumulated rain and start looking at daytime highs for tomorrow. Because that chance of rain is small. It will cool us down on saturday. So if you like numbers to be in the low 80s, today is your day. Those are the north bay numbers were going to go to 83 in santa rosa and top out at 82 in petaluma. Well check out the numbers right through the heart of the bay where the numbers here are pretty much identical to yesterday. Might be a degree or two warmer. San francisco low to mid70s and san joses numbers remember yesterday your temperature was going up to right at average at 81. You are pretty much doing 82 today. And inland east bays numbers also play out the same way. Were going to be in the mid 80s there. So in the 7 day forecast, all right, we still have not put the rain on saturday. Its a 20 chance now of about a tenth of an inch of rain. You can see the clouds increase and theres a cooldown. From 77 on friday and bottom out on saturday at 71. And then were not going to stay down long. Because by the time we get to next monday, the numbers are back up into the 80s. That covers the 7 day forecast for inland parts of the bay. Lets do the same thing now and check out the numbers in the bay itself. And we have the same story. Where the clouds are a little more noticeable on saturday. Daytime highs come down to the upper 60s and i mean were going to be 76 degrees over here today. For the bay in general. And you are down to 67 by saturday. With that chance of rain. But its not sticking around. Well have more sunshine in general and were warming up for much of the early part of next week. Gianna, hows the drive look . Hey darren. Goodlooking conditions on the freeways as well. So good morning to our commuters if you are making that ride between 880 and 101 heading to the san mateo bridge. Now is a good time on to be on the bridge. All clear, no delays. Everything is nice. Just checked in with chp. Not whole lot going on this morning. Which is great news if you are up early. Westbound commuters over to 101, right now things are pretty smooth in and around that area. Taking a look overview here and you can see things arent too bad with a lot of green here on the sensors so thats good news. If you are headed maybe along 101, 280 through the peninsula. Things are pretty quiet there. We are tracking brake lights as you head into the altamont pass. Pretty typical for supercommuters. 38 minutes out of tracy getting on to 580. No crashes. Just some slow and go conditions there. And if you are headed to the bay bridge, taking the eastshore freeway, that looks pretty good right now too. Were not seeing any major delays westbound say out of richmond and out of berkeley. All the way towards the bay bridge where traffic is very quiet here an easy ride heading into San Francisco. But we know that will change and at least the next 20 minutes when they turn the metering lights on. Were close to the weekend so grab your popcorn or start thinking about it. Gianna coming up has a story from her neighborhood and i wanted to just tell you a little bit about somebody who showed me how to be a Good Neighbor at a time when my daughter was sort of isolated during the Pandemic School closures and needing a friend maybe even a mother figure. This is sun dance the dog. Sun dance showed up on the doorstep one day would not leave. By the way, were all full up for dogs at awe house. So i really wanted sun dance to go. No tag, no collar. But our daughter fell in love. So i went to social media trying to find sun dances owner and found nancy. Who sure enough was so thrilled to come and get her dog and by the way, she didnt just come and get her dog. Day after day after that, nancy would show up at our doorstep. She would come and get the daughter ryan and take her for walks. Pretty soon there were dog parties in the neighborhood and guess what . It spread house to house. Other people in our neighborhood needing a friend. Maybe people who will felt shut in themselves or had had a loss. Well, that turned into relationships in our neighborhoods. So this morning, as we salute people who are connected, we have to remember my story of our dog, our neighborhood dog, sun dance. Who came and introduced us to our neighbor and connected our Little Community on our street. So a big good morning to the people of evening rock drive. One of the reasons, there arent as many conferences coming to the city. While overall attendance at Team San Jose managed facilities recover today 5 h of prepandemic levels, overall spending by attendees and restaurants and bars and hotels and other attractions only reached 25 of prepandemic levels. Prepandemic, most of our conventions were large tech groups. Coming in. A lot of those conventions have cease today exist. But it is noticeably cooler in the north bay valleys and that is a sign of fall. Were starting to see that pattern pick up. Heres the next sign of fall. Theres another fall weather system coming out of the pacific thats going to try to give us another chance of light rain on saturday. If you were with us yesterday, the odds are now a little bit higher that were actually going to get this. About 30 chance were going to see some rain on saturday. So lets look at this system. You look out in the pacific and you wouldnt even see it. On other side of the pacific, now we can see the very beginnings of it right here. Little bend in the clouds right there. Were going to put the futurecast on that and watch that little band of green. That gets pulled across the pacific and by time were looking at saturday its now right off the coast. Now heres where it gets tricky. Were going to come in even closer and watch this on the High Resolution forecast. The systems pretty spread out. Theres going to be rain in Northern California on saturday. We might even get some light snow on the Higher Elevations of the sierra but in watching that futurecast, how much rain we actually get here in the bay is the challenge.
