A doctor on mebs gets an adorable interruption from his grandson. And the last point on cbs this morning. Saturday night live returned this weekend. And they were joined by a big name comedian brought in to play Vice President joe biden. Im definitely going to concentrate. Im going to try to keep my what is that . Wheres that coming from . Making it easier to bundle insurance. Welcome back to cbs this morning. Great to have snl back. Chris rock was a knockout as the host. And jim carrey played joe biden with a lot of swagger. Really captured that debate. So much news, i was asleep on the couch by the time that was on. Great to see them back in the studio. Well begin with the news you were probably talking about a lot this weekend. There are a lot of Unanswered Questions surrounding President Trump this morning as he continues his treatment for the coronavirus. Some health are and thes say this outing put other people, the secret Service Agents in the suv at severe risk. Its a sealed vehicle. Briefings led by the president s doctor sean conley provided little clarity. They said mr. Trump could be discharged today even as they describe treatment more typical for a severely affected patient. Ben tracy is is at the white house for us. Do we have an accurate picture of how the president is doing . The answer is no because theyve been giving confusing and conflicting information about the president s condition all weekend. We know President Trump is awake this morning. Hes been tweeting about everything from democrats to the stock market. Trying to show people that hes doing okay. I learned a lot about covid. I learned it by really going to school. In a new video from his hospital suite last night, President Trump says he finally understands coronavirus seven months into the crisis that has killed nearly 210,000 americans. This is the real school. This isnt the lets read the book school, and i get it. And i understand it. The president then got in his suv and went out to wave to supporters gathered outside. He was wearing a mask and the white house said the movement was cleared by its medical team. Some experts say he risked exposing his security detail to the virus. I was trying to reflect the upbeat attitude that the team, the president , the course of illness has had. Reporter on sunday, President Trumps physician, dr. Sean conley admitted to giving an overly optimistic view of the president s health this weekend. It came off that we were trying to hide something which wasnt necessarily true. Reporter the doctor has now acknowledged the president had a high fever and his oxygen levels dropped twice. Hes been given dexamethasone and remdesivir an antiviral drug. Treatments indicated for severely ill covid patients. President trump was given supplemental oxygen at the white house friday before boarding marine one for the trip to the hospital. Just 72 hours into the diagnosis now. Reporter conley also caused confusion by suggesting the president was initially diagnosed wednesday before traveling to minnesota for a rally and new jersey for a fundraiser. The white house later claimed conley misspoke. And chief of staff mark meadows has also contradicted himself. He has mild symptoms. Reporter saying that friday and then admitting the very next day that, in fact, the president s vital signs had been very concerning. And we are still not on a clear pah to a full recovery. Its still not known how or when President Trump was infected. But last weekends packed and mostly maskless rose garden ceremony for his Supreme Court pick judge amy coney barrett. Reporter may have been a superspreader event. Those now infected include the president , first lady, former aide kellyanne conway, Chris Christie who is hospitalized, senators mike lee and thom tillis, as well as the president of notre dame. President trumps senior aide hope hicks, his Campaign Manager bill stepien and personal assistant nick luna are also infected. Its not clear what level of Contact Tracing is being done by the white house. Are there any people who came out of that event who could be asymptomatic right now and should go get tested to make sure theyre not continuing to spread to other officials . That doesnt seem to be a very concerted effort under way. Reporter Vice President mike pence tested negative for the virus again on sunday, and he does plan to carry on with the Vice President ial debate thats scheduled for wednesday. As for President Trump, if he is brought back here to the white house, that doesnt mean hes out of the woods but there is an intensive care unit here at the white house, and he would remain under the supervision of his doctors. Okay, ben, thank you. Dr. David agus joins us with a deeper look at the president s condition and the treatments he has received so far. David, good to see you. A lot to unpack here. Lets start with what were hearing about the steroid drug that hes being given. Were being told by experts that thats usually given to people very, very ill. Does this suggest to you that the president is sicker than were being told . Yeah, certainly a discrepancy between the description that was given of his clinical condition and the drugs being used. In the Clinical Trials of dexamethasone, it showed that people who werent on oxygen may have actually had a negative effect from the steroids because it suppresses the immune system. People who required oxygen or mechanical ventilation, being on an intubatointubator, those peo benefited significantly. So it depends when you use it. What were told is just two episodes of a low oxygen transitly doesnt fit the picture for a potent immune suppressant like dexamethasone. And what about the other drug, the experimental drug cocktail remdesivir . Thats also being described as a very aggressive treatment. Well, the experimental drug is from a Company Called regeneron. Two monoclonal antibodies. And remdesivir is now fda approved. Its a combination of three drugs. One experimental, where theres very little data that theres benefit. The first data came out about a week ago showing potentially a decrease in viral load and potentially some benefit but its very early. And remdesivir makes sense. The three of them together, each one of them work on a different mechanism. Its not easy to put these three drugs together. Its actually very smart. The question is, is his disease much more severe than is being described because theres a discrepancy between the potency of the drugs and whats going on. Its been quite a weekend. First we start friday where we see marine one lifting off from the white house grounds, which seemed surreal. Cut to sunday, the president is riding around in an suv waving at supporters and fans, if you will. A vehicle thats hermetically sealed with secret Service Agents inside. Hes being accused today of being reckless and that he was endangering the lives of the secret Service Agents. Is that true . Was this safe to do . Well, i got a cell phone call from you, gayle, the moment this happened saying, what is going on . I thought that was a private call, david agus, but, yes, i did call you. I was beside myself because i was thinking about all the people in the hospital that cant get out, that cant see anyone that they care about and it just seemed like it was such a it seemed very careless to me. Im a lay person. I dont know any of this. I just thought is that okay . I agree with you. We have a recommendation in our country that for ten days from first symptoms you have to be quarantined. And leaving a hospital, going to a car with other people, is not being quarantined. Certainly its putting people at risk. Its sending out a message thats inappropriate. I have had two patients that have died in a hospital and couldnt be near their family with this virus yet hes allowed to leave the hospital and go into a car with other people when hes known positive. There does appear to be something inappropriate here. Do you think the white house is leveling with us . It seems its not good when you hear the words conflicting and confusing information coming from the white house about the president of the United States. We have a right to a transparency. I feel good that there are five doctors from Johns Hopkins hospital involved in the care. And i know them. They are excellent doctors. So im sure hes getting great care there. Does the American People do we know exactly whats going on . And the answer clearly is no. Were told snippets of information and that Bigger Picture is necessary. D dexamethasone can give you crazy amounts of energy and when its stopped theres a precipitous fall. Theres a lot of reasons not to be on it unless it was really needed. All right. Well, the world really is watching everything about this story. Thank you, dr. David agus. President trumps democratic opponent joe biden is testing negative for the coronavirus, according to his campaign. Biden is scheduled to make three appearances in miami today. Its a sign the campaign is not slowing down with just 29 days to go until election day. Ed okeefe reports now on how both campaigns are handling the president s illness. Despite President Trumps covid19 diagnosis, top Campaign Aides insist hell be back in action soon. Very shortly hes going to be back in the game throwing 95mileanhour fastballs. You can count on that. See you on the next team trump online. The Trump Campaign is moving ahead with Virtual Events and isnt stopping attacks on rival joe bidens covid precautions out on the trail. Biden wants to surrender our country to the virus. With regard to joe biden, i think too often hes used the mask as a prop. Reporter and the plan is very Vice President mike pence to campaign in arizona on thursday. A day after he debates biden running mate Kamala Harris in utah. Meanwhile, biden is keeping to his schedule and preparing for the next two debates. If they happen. Why send President Trump our best. We hope that he is well, and able to debate. If he is, joe biden will certainly be there. Reporter but biden is pulling down all attack ads, at least for now. Even as he intends to keep spending tens of millions of dollars on tv and digital ads. And hes trying to pull off a tricky balancing act. He expresses concern for the first family jill and i pray for their quick and full recovery, but our thoughts are with the families and members youve lost as well. Reporter but on saturday, criticized the president for failing to provide personal protective equipment to transportation workers. If thats not the president s responsibility, what the heck is his responsibility . Not my fault. I have no responsibility. Go to your mayor, your governor, your employer. Its unconscionable. Reporter a new cbs news Battleground Tracker poll out of ohio shows the race tied. A similar poll out of pennsylvania shows biden up seven. Nationally surveys released over the weekend show biden up double digits. All of those surveys were taken after last weeks debate but before the announcement of the president s diagnosis. Tony, well see how weekend developments affect future surveys. We can see from the white board behind you, 29 days until election day. Ed, thank you very much. Lets bring in cbs news chief washington correspondent major garrett. Good morning to you. On friday, you were here on this show and you said the white house needs transparency, transparency, transparency. Instead, quite a fog over the weekend. Is there a strategy here . Well, essentially to discuss this virus politically, not scientifically. Thats what this white house has done from the beginning and whats its doing now. Remember the bob woodward case. He told bob woodward confidentially he likes to play this down. Hes playing it down for his own care. The president s own predilections, his preferences are driving the orientation of what his own doctors say about his own care. Thats not my assessment. Thats what the doctor sean conley said to reporters yesterday. He wants to reflect the upbeat attitude of the president , regardless of what his actual condition is. And no very clear explanation of what this quite obvious aggressive treatment strategy is all about. Regeneron, remdesivir and dex moeth zone combined could make a lot of sense if you know what the underlying conditions are. It also could mean the president saying i want the most aggressive treatment possible and youre under my orders so do as i say. We dont know what the truth is and that creates not only confusion but uncertainty. The president made an intriguing comment saying hes gone covid school, real covid school, the kind of stuff you cant get in a book. Yet a Senior Campaign official is mocking joe biden for using a mask as a, quote, prop. What are those two diverging statements telling you about the campaigns posture toward the virus in these final 29 days . Let me quote the National Security adviser Robert Obrien who told our colleague margaret brennan, this is a nasty resilient virus. It can get anywhere, even inside the whoushs even when you are one of the most protected places on earth. That tells you everything you need to know about how potent this virus is how much the white house, when given a moments candor can express that. Jason miller is talking politics again as they frequently do, not science. Major, every day in this country, people die without being able to say goodbye to their loved ones. Yet we saw the president say hello to his Campaign Supporters yesterday while suffering from coronavirus. Im sure the supporters enjoyed that. Will the voters more broadly appreciate the president breaking protocol . This is a break of quarantine. It could endanger secret Service Agents but for trump supporters, its a reflection of the president s willingness and his imperative to see them and acknowledge them. They want to be acknowledged in whatever condition the president might be. That acknowledgement will, for them, be reassuring and motivating, even though scientifically and medically, it raises a great number of questions. Cant hold your breath and drive an suv at the same time, major. Thanks very much. Lawyers for Breonna Taylors family are asking kentuckys governor to appoint a new special prosecutor to reopen the case. That follows the release of recordings of grand jury proceedings on the louisville shooting that killed taylor. The tapes have conflicting accounts of the police raid in march. One said he heard officers knock and announce themselves before bursting into taylors apartment. Taylors boyfriend, who was with her in the apartment and the neighbor, said they did not hear that. The grand jury also heard a tape of detective Myles Cosgroves first interview 12 days after the shooting. He told investigators he believed he fired about four shots. The evidence later showed he fired 16 rounds, including the bullet that killed Breonna Taylor. Kentucky attorney general Daniel Cameron says he did not recommend the option of homicide charges in taylors shooting because he believed that the officers acted in selfdefense. One officer was charged with endangering a neighbor by shooting into that apartment next door. And love from Lenny Kravitz. The rock star talks to us about his new book and going his own way. First, todays eye opener at 8 00. There are a lot of Unanswered Questions surrounding President Trump this morning as he continues his treatment for the coronavirus. The simple question do we have an accurate picture of how the president is doing . The answer is no. And thats because the president s doctors and white house officials have been giving confusing and conflicting information about the president s condition all weekend. Its quite obvious the president s own preferences are driving the orientation of what his own doctors say about his own care. Thats not my assessment. Thats what dr. Sean conley said yesterday. He wants to reflect the upbeat attitude of the president. Joe biden is scheduled to make three appearances in miami, a sign the campaign is not slowing down. The cbs news ballots ground tracker out of ohio shows the race tied. Nationally, biden is up double digits. That was before the news broke of the president s diagnosis. A texas chiropractor is going viral after turning pain relief tips into tiktok dances. I look to the sky, i want you to work that bad neck up. I likethat. Although that one move where you put your leg underneath, that looks like that would hurt. I would go down and never come back up. Thats what im worried about, help, i cant get up. Very well done. Good morning to you. This is where we begin, with the president s doctors who say he could be moved to the white house as early as today, following his Coronavirus Diagnosis last week. He posted this message to social media last night. Its been a very interesting journey. I learned a lot about covid. I learned it by really going to school. This is the real school. The president has worked to undercut concerns about his health. At one point he left the Walter Reed Medical Center for a driveby for supporters. He tweeted this morning about stock market highs, strongest military, and law and order, all punctuated by the word vote. Ben, whats the latest . Reporter good morning. Clearly the president is trying to show hes okay. That may be at odds with the severity of his case. The president has been given oxygen. We know hes been given the steroid dexamethasone and an antiviral drug called remdesivir. That all suggests hes been hit hard by the virus. His physician, sean conley, at one point said mr. Trumps diagnosis began on wednesday even though the president did not announce his positive test result until after midnight on friday. Conley later walked back that comment in a white house memo. We still dont know how or when the president was infected, though last weekends mostly maskless Supreme Court ceremony may have been a super spreader event. Several of the people who attended have since tested positive, including the first lady, former white house aide kellyanne conway, and former new jersey governor Chris Christie, who is now in the hospital. And the extent of the white houses Contact Tracing efforts is unclear. As for the president , he now says that he understands the coronavirus, calling it, quote, a very interesting thing. Anthony . Certainly that, ben, thank you very much. Dr. David agus joins us again. The president s doctors say he could leave the hospital as early as day. Based on what we know about his condition and the treatment hes getting, might that be too soon . Again, we dont really know his condition, thats the bottom line. There is an intensive care unit in the white house. The drugs hes getting now, intravenous and oral, could all be administered at the white house. If theres a decline, he could be given oxygen or even a ventilator at the white house and be transported in minutes to walter reed. So i dont think its out of the question to go to the white house. The real question is, what is the true condition of the president . His doctors did reveal his blood oxygen level dropped on friday and again at least one other time. How concerning is that . You need to know the context. Was he sitting down and breathing well and his oxygen level dropped . Or was he going for a walk and his oxygen level dropped . Youre a lot more worried if its at rest and youre sitting down. So discrete values without real context are hard to interpret, and i think meaningfully so. What is the treatment that the president is getting, david, suggest about what his condition actually is . Hes getting three drugs that to my knowledge, hes the first person in the world to get the combination of these drugs, that is, remdesivir, which is a drug that is used to treat obviously the virus. It is an experimental cocktail of two monoclonal antibodies. And dexamethasone, a steroid. So the three of them Work Together in different ways. Dexamethasone hits the inflammation, the other two hit the virus in different mechanisms. The three together, pretty powerful. Does that suggest his condition might be worse than the doctors are admitting at this point . Especially the dexamethasone. I mean, you would really only use it in people with significant pulmonary findings or lung findings and a real shortness of breath. When you use it early, with minimal symptoms, there was actually a potential decrease in the outcome of the patients. I would assume its much worse. The doctor, when they said what were the lung findings, he said, they were expected. He didnt say it was normal. It was a very generic answer that was hard to interpret. We still dont have a complete timeline, david, when the president was infected. What should the white house be dealing at this point . The incubation period for this virus is two to 14 days. So anybody that was in that window, which is normally three to four days before symptoms, the president had symptoms, and the president had an exposure to, need to be quarantined and tested regularly, again, in that two to 14day window. Thats a twoweek window. So i assume there is aggressive Contact Tracing going on of all those individuals. And they are staying at home, quarantined, and being tested. Actually we dont have confirmation of that yet, but we would hope so. David agus, dr. David agus, thank you very much. Three republican senators tested positive for the virus after the president. Two of them are on the committee thats Holding Hearings next week on judge Amy Coney Barretts nomination to the Supreme Court. Nancy cortes is on capitol hill with more. Nancy, good morning to you. Do you think these cases will affect the timeline for her confirmation hearings . Reporter Republican Leaders say not, theyre pushing ahead despite the desistiiagnoses. We were able to get an update on all three senators conditions last night. Senator ron johnson of wisconsin told cbs news that he is still asymptomatic and could leave quarantine in just over a week. An aide to senator mike lee told me, quote, hes good, but would not go into more detail. Lee started having symptoms on thursday. And senator thom tillis of North Carolina were told has improved from his mild case. Tillis and lee sat just a few seats apart at the rose garden event where the president nominated judge barrett. And they both met with her days before they tested positive. They both sit on the Senate Judiciary committee. Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell says that the committee is going to hold barretts confirmation hearings as planned starting on october 12, even though he has now delayed the full senates return until october 19. Democratic leader Chuck Schumer called that reckless. He says if its too dangerous to have the full senate in session, then its dangerous to hold the hearing, tony. Nancy, thank you very much. The prpresidenent traveled to t fundraiser, despite the white house knowing before he left washington that a close aide tested positive for the virus. A republican official tells tcb that the site was cleaned and sanitized, it is unclear how many guests got a coronavirus test before the event. New jerseys Governor Phil Murphy joins us now. Governor murphy, good morning to you. I know you wish the president a speedy recovery, we wish the president a speedy recovery, but hope for continued health and welfare of the people of new jersey. Thats where i want to begin. I am curious, what was your reaction when you learned the president traveled to your state after learning his close aide tested positive. What are your biggest concerns now . Good to be with you, tony. I underscore that we wish the president and first lady, anybody infected speedy recovery. Thats very frustrating, no other way to put it. We have paid an enormous price in new jersey with covid. Lost over 14,000 people. We have gotten things largely under control, but are dealing with our own spikes inside our four walls and to have a group as they say, the virus doesnt care who you are, new jersey doesnt care who you are. A group of folks from out of state coming in knowingly having been exposed to someone covid positive is frustrating, it is complicated. We started Contact Tracing immediately. We ultimately got a list of attendees by midafternoon friday. By the way, it is a group of folks that are nationally based, not just in new jersey. We have Staff Members of the club that were Contact Tracing with here. Weve done everything, continue to do everything we can. Need more on the federal side of this, but it is extremely frustrating. Governor murphy, i know it was frustrating that the initial list of attendees did not include phone numbers or addresses, it was difficult to contact them. Now that you are attempting to contact them, have you found any evidence of a covid spread . To the best of my knowledge, no. I was just down with the Health Commissioner this morning, but theres a big but here. You had a discussion prior to my coming on here that addressed this. It could be days, the virus takes a number of days to incubate. So the notion of hey, i got a test after i heard this and it came back negative so i can go on my merry way, thats not how this works. Anybody that was associated with that fundraiser, regardless of where they live, have got to take themselves off the field. You self quarantine, first and foremost. Then after five to seven days you get a test. You still self quarantine, but probably get another test, but you have to take yourself off the field. Exactly right, governor murphy. Were you given a heads up there was an issue in your state or did you hear about it on the news like many of us did . Gayle, i did not get a heads up, unfortunately. Do you think you should have under the circumstances . I think, gayle, the thing that should have happened, nobody should have come to new jersey. The trip should have been cancelled. Were all doing meetings virtually, i am doing fundraisers, were doing things that allow us some virtual intimacy. Thats what should have been done. The trip itself was the wrong decision at every level. You know what i keep hearing, we all wish the president and first lady speedy recovery, thats true. Im hearing people are angry theyre put in this position. Do you think the anger is justified and that maybe this will be a wake up call for even the president of the United States . I think yes to both. I think people have a right to be upset and angry, particularly folks who have been doing all the right things every step of the way. Secondly, i hope it is a wake up call. By the way, we talk about this chapter. Its now a long book with lots of chapters of indoor behavior. No face coverings, no social distancing. It cant go on. I hope to god finally this gets through to everybody. No matter where you live, no matter your party, that you have to do the right thing. Governor, you say the event should not have happened. Im curious, the state has strict guidelines who should come, what gatherings are okay. As of friday, were you investigating whether any social distancing guidelines have been violated by the president or his party. Is that investigation ongoing . What are the findings . Yes. That would not come from my office. That would be a Law Enforcement matter, the attorney general. Theres a lot of attention now on the event. Ill leave it at that. Part of this apparently was in doors and so we all know the virus is more lethal inside. Everything associated with it is troubling and it is being followed up on as aggressively as we can in new jersey. I know you have been in contact with your predecessor, Chris Christie, who was diagnosed with covid. What can you tell us about how he is doing without breaking any confidence the two of you share . Yeah. We wish the governor and his first lady nothing but a speedy recovery. The governor and i exchanged notes over the weekend. He knows we are here for him. Beyond that, i dont have any insights. It is widely reported as a precautionary matter checked himself into a hospital and is in our prayers as well. All right, governor murphy, thank you very much. Appreciate you being with us today. Thank you, tony. Thank you, gayle. Ahead, letters that helped a teenage soldier build a marriage that lasted 72 years. Youre watching cbs this morning. Is that possible . In the bay area, we believe in science. Traffic and air pollution will be even worse after the pandemic. Thats why we support measure rr to keep caltrain running. Which is at risk of shutdown because of the crisis. To keep millions of cars off our roads, to reduce air pollution and fight Climate Change. And measure rr helps essential workers like me get to work and keep our communities healthy. Relieve traffic. Reduce pollution. Rescue caltrain. He played 17 seasons with the cardinals from 1959 to 1975, he was a nine time allstar, two time world series champion. Also National League mvp, unusual for a pitcher in 1968. Era that year 101. He was the second pitcher to record more than 3,000 strikeouts. What made him ferocious is he threw very hard and looked at you like he was settling an ancient grudge, like he was really angry. He was also nearsighted so he couldnt see the combination of throwing hard, looking intimidating, not being able to see well was effective. It worked. Played his whole career with the cardinals, didnt he . Yeah, he did. Amazing. He had a sign over his locker as part of intimidation. I am sure he was a nice guy over the field. Fly above the trees, over the seas and on the breeze to anywhere i please oh, i want to get away i want to fly away yeah, yeah, yeah. Doesnt that make you want to get out of bed if youre still i bed. Just fly away. I want to fly away with lenny. He sold more than 40 million records worldwide, won a grammy for best male rock vocal performance, four times in a row. Think about that a second. Thats the cover of his book, author of a new memoir let love rule. Takes you from birth to release of his debut album in 1989. Lenny kravitz joins us this morning from the bahamas. Hi, Lenny Kravitz good to see you. Good morning, good morning. Good to see you. I never asked you for anything, lenny, are you wearing your sunglasses the whole time . Just asking. I got to tell you, i just woke up. This is early. This is early. But it is a beautiful day. Its a beautiful day. I went to bed about four hours ago. I was in the studio all night. You can do whatever you want, Lenny Kravitz. Listen, journey is a word for you. In the book, called master leonard, eddie, romeo blue. Did you struggle . Was it a struggle to find yourself . All of the names have meaning to you. People have to read the book to get it. Did you struggle to find yourself . It was a journey but it was a beautiful journey. And the fact that i had all these backgrounds, you know, growing up with a russian jewish father and christian africanamerican Caribbean Mother living in manhattan, in brooklyn, in new york city, in los angeles, in the bahamas. It was a very, very colorful and rich childhood which provided me with this playground i could experience and learn all sorts of things. I know your mom was roxey roker on the jeffersons and your dad, you and your dad had a very complicated relationship. You ultimately say in the book as complicated as it was, it was a pivotal part of your journey. Talk about your mom and dad, what they brought to your life. Your mom was such a classy lady who adored you, and you her. Thank you. Yes. She was a very beautiful, honest, fair person. Full of so much love. And my father was full of love too, but he had a hard time showing it to me maybe in certain ways, but he showed it in other ways. And he challenged me which was good. I needed him in my life to give me that certain rub and put that heat under me which prompted me to, you know, leave the house early. Lenny, wait a second. Try to find my way. Wait. I love how you say leave the house early. That was quite a confrontation. You wanted to go to a concert, i think buddy rich, he said no, youre not going. As a teenager, you said yes, i am. And you guys got nose to nose. He said if you leave, youre not coming back. You left not knowing where you were going to go. It wasnt just you left the house early. Okay. Yeah. I really wanted to go see buddy rich that night, wanted to check out his technique. Such a great drummer. I asked my father or i guess i kind of told him, no, i asked him can i go, and he said no. I said but i really need to see buddy rich, we dont have many times well get to see him. He said you went out last night. I asked him what that had to do with tonight. Anyway, it got to the point we were nose to nose. It was the first time i stood up to him which i think amazed both of us because my father was a green beret, he was a tough guy. I stood up to him, he said if you go, you cant come back because you have to, you know, work under the rules of this house, which i understand and respect, so i grabbed a dufflebag and packed a few things, went to the buddy rich concert. After the show, i had no idea where i was going to live, but i began to find my way that night. It is anthony mason. Want to talk about one of the stories i found particularly poignant. You talked about wanting to wear a yam ka, and learning if you have an afro, you cant wear one. Seemed to symbolize the dilemma you dealt with. In the 70s, well, it was the 70s, i had an afro, you know, and it was hard for that to stay on. Of course, i grew up going to church, going to temple. You know, i got to experience the joy of both sides. You know, the other chapter i really liked was you and lisa bonet. What you two had was so magical, the story you told about the first kiss honest to god had my swooning, people live their whole lives, dont get anything like that. She of course now is happily married to jason ma mmoa, but s had a huge influence on your life. Absolutely. Absolutely. Everything i experienced were all jewels i picked up along the way. When we met, i think we really saw each other. You know, when i looked at her and when i looked within her, i saw myself, had a greater understanding of myself at that time because she was so confident and so free, so artistic and smart and, you know, really in touch. Ahead of her time. Lenny, as were you. At that time, and at that time the portal opened and everything that i was searching for artistically came through me effortlessly at that point. I had been searching for my sound, for my voice. When we got together and created this world that we were living in, everything just came out naturally and i didnt have to search any more. I am wondering, lenny, because we have to go, if you feel as cool as you look. I got a text from my friend adrian, Lenny Kravitz is a fine ass man. Oh my god. Do you feel as cool as you look, does your favorite daughter zoe think youre cool . If you call zoe and ask her about my character, she will say i am one of the goofiest people she knows. Dont let the cool facade fool. Im fooled and i like it. Lenny kravitz, thought the best line, love how the book ended. You talk about musical influences, james brown, jackson five, earth, wind and fire. Last line of the book is to be continued. May that be so. Please continue to soar. I cant wait to see you again. Thank you so much for getting up early. The name of the book. Thank you for your time, have a wonderful day. Name of the book is called let love rule. Goes on sale tomorrow wherever you like to buy your books. Well be back. Adrian is going to be so i got it all from you im always pushing through i know well make it to the finish line i know youre waiting on the other side im like you ondemand glucose monitoring. Because theyre always on. Another lifechanging technology from abbott. So you dont wait for life. You live it. This year marks 75 years since end of world war ii where more than 16 million americans served in that war. A new book offers fresh insight into what life was like on the front lines through a series of letters written by a young soldier. It details the day to day struggles and triumphs of american troops in europe. Chip reid shows us letters had Lasting Impact on lives they touched. Reporter bernard brown, 96 years old, was just 19 when drafted into the army during world war ii. Longing for connection, back home he started writing to a childhood friend named selma. Just four months after dday, browns unit boarded a ship to europe. His frequent letters to selma paint a vivid picture of the sacrifice of American Forces on the frontlines. In action three days in the mud, sleeping, eating and trying to fight. Reporter he describes living in a foxhole, in the thick of battle in france, and haunting image of the jewish prisoners they helped liberate from a concentration camp. Amid chaos of war, letters gradually became a declaration of love. I really liked this person, made me feel that every time i read her letters and thought you know, ive got to know her better. I just have to know her better. You got pretty sappy at some points. Yes. I was eager, if you only knew how much i want to come back so you and i can start living a life together. Reporter after the germans surrendered in 1945, brown did just that. Marrying selma three months after he returned home. Eventually, they had three children and later five grandchildren. They were married for 72 years before selma passed away in 2017. As his family prepared to move him into a portland retirement facility, his daughter shelly came across a dusty old box. It was probably around 600 pages of handwritten letters. We would call dad up and say tell us about this. What does that mean. And then the kind of memories that were coming out of his mind were incredible. Reporter brown earned a bronze star and purple heart, he rarely shared stories of his time overseas. When you read these letters that you had written so many years before, did they bring tears to your eyes . They did, brought up a lot of memories to me.
