We are topping temperatures hotter than yesterday. Inland, triple digits, even around the bay, low to mid 90s and for the coast, low 80s. Firefighters are over there making the last 10 to protect the barn. I am life with the Public Information officer for santa rosa fire. You have a gauge on just how bad this fire is . We have a significant amount of fire that has moved into the city limits from the hills above the city at the napa Sonoma County line. We have a reported fire from calistoga road, near the higher highway, all the way through monterey, skyhawk, into the areas between skyhawk and oakmont. A fire on the north and south of highway 12. Obviously we have seen an unfortunate significant number of structures involved. The goal, with the winds, that we have right now is to keep it from progressing to the south, toward an adult state park. At this point, how many people are evacuated . The city alone, we had estimates of 6500 residents. That, on top of the number of residents evacuated out of the county, tens of thousands of people that we are evacuating late last night into this morning. Reporter how does that compare to 2017 fire numbers . 2017 the big difference between that and what occurred here, this morning was that there wasnt a lot of advance notice. The systems have greatly improved since 2017 to today. Even on this fire, were watching the cameras, we could see the initial behavior and could put together a medications plan. Getting the wireless emergency alerts and evacuation zones up and ready. A lot of improvements in made. Knowing we put this into action and activated those evacuations, we get traffic. We fully expected it. We had a lot of Law Enforcement officers at the intersections pushing residents east and west of santa rosa. With that we are happy to see as the fire moved into the area, the people heated to the warnings and had gotten out. Our fire apparatus and Law Enforcement were able to secure the area and fire engine the firefighters could get in and protect structures and fight fire. You got a lot of work to do so i will let you get back to that. Another very active fire that is burning just west of here, in napa, is on the glass fire. Reporter i just got here to the scene. You can see the fire burning on the hill behind me. You are looking at basically the community of deer park that was evacuated yesterday. It looks like the fire is in that community. We know that several homes are burning right now. The flames, just, they are burning very high right now and we see a lot of ash raining down on us where we are, which is silverado trail here in st. Helena. This fire has already burned 2500 acres, that number is likely to rise once calfire gets a better handle on it. We are probably approaching at least 3000 acres, at this point. It is 0 contained. It started early yesterday morning and that is when the communities of deer park and england were evacuated. The firefight went on all day yesterday and the firefighters were just never really able to get a good grasp on this fire. Heres what they had to say about some of their challenges. The air support gives the ground crew the ability to get into areas we as they remain vigilant and evacuate if ordered to do so. Reporter and over the night, they were not able to hold some of the lines that they had hoped to hold, protecting that community of deer park. Right now we dont know the extent of the damage, that was able to proceed in the Early Morning hours. But we are keeping an eye on this fire.
