Neighborhood, is it orange and smoky . Send us your photos. Because of the high fire danger pg e has shut off power to thousands of customers in napa and sonoma counties. Wilson walker is live in calistoga for us right now. Reporter anyone who lives anywhere between calistoga and santa rosa has been through these power shutoffs. Half dozen times, maybe more. So the same communities keep getting wrapped up in this. So power goes out today, although people like it or not, they know the drill. Hanging in there, it could be worse, we could be evacuated. At least we still have a house and our health. When the lights went out at about 3 00 this morning yvette and her family were ready. Weve been doing this since 2017, we are getting pretty good at it. Im ready this year. The easternmost neighborhoods of santa rosa have been through this so many times now that the city has a routine for major intersections and residents have a routine for keeping their refrigerators cold. My son and i bought this generator together. He lives a block away for me down the street. So we just share it back and forth about every four hours. This is the last time, when they came over from calistoga. We are definitely concerned about the winds. The power frustrations also come with the unease of fire risk. Its a crazy world out there right now. With the fires and the pandemic and everything. A whole lot of people got stress. Im probably one of them. A stressful situation now on repeat for this part of the bay area. Its annoying, but from what they say they will shrink the grades down so they dont have to have so many people without power for so long. About that plan to shrink the grades down so people dont have to lose power for too long, im hearing calistoga because there is the micro grade sort of centerpiece that we showed you back in july. We showed you them setting this thing up and a lot of people thought this would be used today so that when the power went out in areas where it was not expected to, there was a lot of confusion and questions about what happened with or without this equipment behind me. I think i have an answer so im going to double check my notes, i think i have solved the mystery of what happened at the calistoga micro grade and why there was so much confusion we are live in calistoga, wilson walker, kpix 5. We will begin the fire watch some intense moments, residents had to evacuate overnight, they walk up to deputies going door to door telling them to get out, in the process they had to clear the history that came crashing down. The evacuations were called after this flareup. The wind picked up, push the flames outside the containment lines, but some good news, most of those orders were downgraded to just warnings today. The only road still under evacuation is Sweetwater Springs road. And a little good news to report, the oak fire has now grown to more than 800 acres, it is now 5 contained. Highway 101 remains closed as crews try to stop those flames from spreading. Evacuation orders are in place. Cal fire worried that the fire could move toward homes. The National Guard finally able to reach those campers who were trapped for days in the Sierra National forest. Dozens of them and they are pops landed at the fresno yosemite airport a few hours ago. They had to be rescued from lake edison and the surrounding area when the creek fire exploded and surrounded them. We are getting new images of the devastation left behind from those flames. Take a look at this gas station, completely gutted in pine ridge in fresno county. The rest of the area, also for the most part unrecognizable. Flames racing through big creek, destroying at least half of its buildings. Devastation, i dont know how else to put it. Totally devastating. The school is the focal point of the community, it is where we gather. And to have that still standing, that is our beacon of hope, that school is still there. The creek fire has consumed more than 135,000 acres and there is no containment yet. More travel farther north, to wildfires emerged and are spreading quickly across plumas county. Take a look at this video from the claremont and bear fire, south of where the devastating campfire burned in 2018. And right now there are mandatory evacuations in the part and Little Grass Valley reservoir. And a recordbreaking 2. 3 million acres have burned up all across our state this season, and it is only september. Across this prompted Governor Newsom to lash out at socalled Climate Change deniers. At his press briefing he said he simply has no patience for them. It simply follows completely inconsistent that point of view with the reality on the ground and the facts that we are experiencing. You may not believe it intellectually, but your own eyes and experiences tell a different story. Some positive news on californias other big battlefront, the covid19 crisis, although the state confirm nearly 2700 new cases yesterday, the average test Positivity Rate has dropped below 4 . And if things stay stable for the next 14 days that could include Santa Clara County schools. For now the county is allowing nail, waxing and tattoo parlors to reopen indoors. Fitness centers can also reopen indoors but at sharply reduced capacity. Indoor dining and Movie Theaters are still a no go even though the state includes them in the red tier. Especially in the context of the significant volume of activity, that the opening of the schools may bring. It is all the more important that we remain vigilant and on top of trying to keep the case count here locally, as low as possible. Santa cruz county also moved into tier 2 today, along with the rest of the red tier businesses. For now there is a delay in reopening more businesses in marin county. These are some of the businesses that would have been allowed to offer services indoors. The county was notified last night that the state was taking a second look at its case numbers. And some students at marin city school showed up for the first day of in person classes only to be sent back home. Empty classrooms at Bayside Martin luther king jr. Academy. What would you say to the teachers that say it is not safe for us to go back to the classroom . There are ways to keep them safe and keep our kids safe. Important to note, schools may apply for a waiver to reopen if they meet all county requirements but not all schools or districts have applied. Meanwhile democratic president ial nominee joe biden released two new as today, they criticize President Trumps leadership on civil unrest and social security. Tomorrow and will deliver remarks in michigan and democratic Vice President ial nominee Kamala Harris plans to visit florida next week. Recent polling showing President Trump and joe biden deadlocked in florida, of course the key state, but what can each of them do to break that tie, and of course how important is florida . So it could be another tossup in the sunshine state. The first debate coming up on september 29. How different do you see this being a peer to that trump clinton debates. They will be nasty, no doubt, there is no love lost between writing and the president. We will see exactly what that looks like. The president said he would be willing to spend his own money on his campaign financing, but how unusual would that be for an incumbent . It would be pretty unusual. There have been stories in recent days and spending reports to prove that despite the fact that he has raised more money in any president running for reelection, in part because he again his campaign on inauguration day, he is running low on cash, or perhaps much lower than most people thought he would be. 364. 5 million raised in the month of august by biden, that is a record sum, much of it coming online and from small dollar donors which is a signal that there could be much more to come if the biden team needs it. Trump is suggesting today that he might loan himself or write a check to the campaign because he suggests that perhaps there is a little bit of a need for it but he claimed they have plenty of money. Two other vaccines are undergoing final stage testing. In the meantime it is unlikely that there will be a Coronavirus Vaccine ready by election day. President trump suggested that could happen by november 3. The only way you could see that scenario come true is if there are so many infections in the Clinical Trial science that you get efficacy sooner than you would have projected. Its unlikely that we will have a definitive answer at that time. More likely by the end of the year. Other Health Experts are worried that political rhetoric is affecting peoples willingness to get a potential vaccine. Time to bring in paul to take a look at what weve got coming ahead. Weve still got that red flag warning that goes until 8 00 tomorrow morning and we have poor air quality. So lets get into the details. Smoke and haze will be with us overnight, some fog along the coast. The marine layer is trying to reassert itself, which is a good sign. The red flag warning continues through 8 00 tomorrow morning. But here is the good news, temperatures will gradually continue falling closer to what is normal for this time of the year, even if we are still a little above average inland. Lets start with the details of the air quality, today was just bad acrosstheboard, unhealthy for insensitive groups, and we would have seen a lot of red and purple dots, but fortunately its been elevated a little bit into the atmosphere. Tomorrow the trouble spots will be the north bay, the august complex and the north complex, and the trivalley thtends to collect the poor air quality. Things look better as we look farther down the line. Moderate air quality acrossthe board for thursday, friday and saturday. Wind gusts look to be improving, futurecast has really dropped the numbers for parts of the north bay, but dont look at the city, look at that numbers in the background, there will still be some higher gusts into the early hours of tomorrow morning, and then things calm down and the winds changes direction. That will help us out by increasing the relative humidity levels, those will be much better as we had into tomorrow as the dry air gets pushed farther and farther away from us. Futurecast indicating that some of it will make its way into the napa valley by tomorrow morning. Relative humidity in the teens and 20s, not great, but much better than what we had today with the bone dry air. Right now we see the smoke but also seeing the fog, only 63 downtown, 76 in oakland, further inland its a mix of 80s and 90s, but all that smoke in the atmosphere kept temperatures quite a bit cooler than what we anticipated. We are about 10 degrees of below that, temperatures dropping into the 60s, and we will see similar temperatures across the board tomorrow. Not as much smoke in the atmosphere, with temperatures a little below average. Mid 60s along the coast, mid to upper 80s on the south end of the bay up to 88 in san jose, a mix of upper 80s and low 90s for the trivalley with the hotspots in the mid90s, note triple digit temperatures on the map. For the bay itself, mid 60s in the city with mostly low to mid 80s in the north bay. Further to the north, still hotter, with temperatures well into the upper 80s and low sleep mostly low to mid 90s. Temperatures drop a little more for thursday and friday and then we hover around the 80s for the middle of next week. We will be back at 5 30 with another look lat those fire conditions.
