And due to the dangerous heat, state officials have issued a statewide flex alert for today. Were all being asked to voluntarily conserve energy between 3 00 and 10 00 p. M. If you need a place to cool off, there are several cooling centers around the bay area. Palo alto will be open from 1 00 this afternoon until 6 00. And cooling centers will also be available in san jose at may Fair Community center. The Camden Center on union avenue. Those cooling centers could help ease the strain on the power grid. Concord broke the record high yesterday at 101 degrees and today is expected to be even hotter at 108. And we are keeping our eye on a couple of very large fires burning right now in southern california. Starting off with the newest one this one is called the ranch fire. Its burning in the azuzus foothills and burned at least 3,000 acres and homes in the Mountain Cove area are under mandatory evacuation orders. It blew up right after it started just before 3 00 yesterday afternoon. So we are waiting for an update from cal fire once the sun comes up and they can get a better idea of the size of that fire. Also keeping an eye on the lake fire. That one has been burning since wednesday in the Angeles National forest. And at this point, it has destroyed three structures and that number is expected to climb. It is only 5 contained and it could flare up again with these hot temperatures that we have been dealing with. That mary has been warning us about. It is consumed more than 16 square miles of timber and brush so far in addition to those three structures. And 100 homes are threatened. The cause of both fires still under investigation. Police say two groups of people in two cars were involved in some kind of disagreement at the 100 block of otis street south of market. One person has lifethreatening injuries and no description of the suspect has been released at this time. In san jose, all lanes on northbound 85 near Camden Avenue are back open following a deadly crash involving multiple vehicles. It happened around 3 00 this morning. The cause is under investigation. Turning now to our back to school coverage. This morning, San Francisco supervisors a long with School Officials will hold a hearing for parents. Sfusd is slated to start school on monday. Meanwhile, in marin county, today officials will start accepting waiver applications for Elementary Schools looking to reopen for inperson learning. Some teachers in marin have protested a return to the classroom. While a group of parents launched a website which features links to site petitions and easily contact state officials who have a large say in giving the green light. Its a really hard topic because its so easy for people to get people polarized. Stories in indiana and georgia. Lot os kids in communities are getting it by passed it around in schools and high schools in particular because theyre not wearing masks. Developing news this morning. Santa clara county is launching its boldest and most aggressive plan yet in a vow to end homelessness. About 10,000 people are homeless in the county right now. And county leaders predict another 20,000 will be on the streets over the next five years. The plan is to house all of those people and reduce those on the brink of homelessness by 30 a year. I think i would describe this Community Plan as necessary. Given the crisis were facing in our community. You ask me you know thats going to take time. The Affordable Housing bond passed in 2016 would help fund the project. But millions of extra dollars are needed. The plan is to ask for help from cities, the county, private companies, and maybe even voters again. In 2015, Santa Clara County had a goal of creating 6,000 housing opportunities and they exceeded that by housing more than 14,000. Update now out of Alameda County. A victory for some workers at an oakland mcdonalds. They claim they were forced the wear doggie diapers and coffee filters than our faces in place of proper masks. A judge granted their request against the owner of the telegraph avenue franchise. It imposes nearly a dozen new health and safety requirements to be followed for the next six months. The plaintiffs claim at least 25 workers contracted covid19. The franchisee told us in june he personally purchased 3,000 masks and 500 set of gloves for his employees. It is slow and go coming out of tracy getting on to 580. Extends to just about grant line so not as far back as mountain house. Thats good news. But just a little slow through there. 30 minutes almost for your drive time to go westbound 205 over to 680. The good news on the eastshore freeway this morning, highway 80 over towards highway 4 to the maze, only 14 minutes right now. And theres no really major delays as you work towards the bay bridge toll plaza. Traffic is pretty light so far. No metering lights just yet. So at the limit as you work your way out of the east bay into the city. Taking a look at conditions across the san mateo bridge, we are certainly starting to see a few more cars on the roadway. But traffic still moving at a nice pace across the span westbound as you work over to 101. And the Golden Gate Bridge, looks pretty good as well. With no major delays right now. Southbound 101 out of marin into San Francisco, if you are coming from where the Richmond San Rafael bridge connects to 101, that will take you just about 15 minutes to make that ride. Due to the warm temperatures today, a spare the air alert has been issued. So they are recommending to use Public Transit and everything is on time right now as well as to drive smart. Some recommendations limiting time on the roadways and you can combine errands over one trip and obviously obeying the speed limit and limiting Outdoor Activities. Going to be definitely warm today. Lets talk about the hot temperatures. Heres mary. And gianna, well see some of the hottest temperatures so far this summer. So please do what you can to stay safe and cool in this heat. And looking at 63 for santa rosa. 24 hour temperature change and were anywhere from 9 to 16 degrees warmer compared to yesterday at this time. And we will see those temperatures skyrocket this afternoon. In fact were talking about record highs likely this afternoon. So record tying and record breaking highs as we head through the day for many locations as we go through our afternoon. Lets get right to the excessive heat warnings and heat advisories in effect. Starting today at 11 00 a. M. All the way through wednesday 9 00 p. M. For most of the bay area. So really except the immediate coastline, under a heat warning or heat advisory. So an excessive heat warning highlighted in pink and in orange that heat advisory. Because of this dangerous heat. So this low pressure system that has been bringing for most of the summer, that onshore flow is moving away from us. And a strong ridge of High Pressure is building in from the Desert Southwest. This heat dome is the reason why were going to see the temperatures soar this afternoon. So were starting off our day with those high clouds and were going to see those clouds move out and that sunshine and again, really heating up this afternoon and staying hot for your saturday as well. Now lets show you our daytime highs. Breaking it all down for you. For the south bay, 98 close to triple digit heat in san jose. Looking at 100 in campbell and 104 in morgan hill and 101 for los gatos and 98 for milpitas. For the east bay. Some of the hottest temperatures this afternoon. Concord hitting 108. 109 in brentwood. The trivalley. 106 in livermore. Around the bay, San Francisco in the mid 80s. 80 in sausalito and check out oakland. Alameda, 90 degrees. 92 for you in san leandro and for the north bay. Mid to upper 90s to triple digit heat as we head through our afternoon and 106 for a high in yucaipa to our north. Heres the extended forecast and what you can expect. So there we go staying hot for tomorrow. And still looking at temperatures on the warm to hot side just a touch cooler by a few degrees on sunday.
