Explosion of a small propane tank at 415 in the morning. We heard an explosion in the fire just burst out of the building. All i heard was a big bang. And it was just, it made it loud because of the warehouse echo. Mayor sylvia zahn had just arrived at work. She helped to evacuate other workers at nearby buildings. It was scary but i had to act fast and call 911. Workers say what was a small fire quickly spread and in less than five minutes engulfed the building with thick black smoke. Shooting out of the roof, it was big and it was hot. Really up in my face. Felt the heat. Flames shut up about 100 feet into the sky. Right now we are dealing with surround and ground, we are getting this from all sides, it is too dangerous for our members to be in there. Two fire votes is water to prevent the flames from jumping to the ss Jeremiah Obrien Floating Museum which is docked next to the warehouse. The warehouse is known as building c. Roughly the size of a football field. It was mostly used to store fishing gear for local fishermen and as a parking lot. It also contained the office of the site in Cruise Company red and white fleet. Workers at nearby buildings say Homeless People often slept in the warehouse. It could have been just some homeless folks being careless with you know, making their breakfast. Firefighters are not ready to say who or what caused the fire. It will be a while before they can safely enter the building to look for the cause. The fire injured one firefighter, he is doing okay now. In San Francisco, i am doll in. Kpix 5. I talked to the captain a short while ago, he told me it was a miracle that it was not damaged. We take a look at some of the video earlier this morning when the flames erupted you could see the ship in the forefront. And the flames just behind it in the background and you really get a sense of how close the flames were to consuming this relic. They knew the peer was, they could not save the peer structure, but they knew they had to save the ship and they used their fire boats, and just poured water on the ship in between the ship and the peer. Again it is just a miracle. Our mooring lines did not even melt away, which i dont even understand how that could happen can during the intensity of the fire. Reporter the captain tells me that none of the steel on the ship buckled and not even the paint melted off the ship. There were 4 people on board when the flames erupted early this morning. The coronavirus has been the main story for weeks and weeks and weeks. Something will intrude briefly and importantly. A heat wave on the way, here is darren. The coronavirus and the shelter in place is still part of this story when it comes to the forecast because when it is in the low hundred four inland alameda and Contra Costa County when we get to early next week, you cant go to the beach, and you cant find ways to cool off like you normally would. So even in the weather obviously we are still incorporating that as part of the story. Lets get you caught up on where things stand now but more importantly where we are going. Here are todays daytime highs. These numbers on average are about 10b0 above average for this time of year. We have already started the warmup no doubt if you were outside today you noticed it felt kind of warm. Look at tomorrow. We will add another couple of degrees on top of this. Good example would be conquered going to 91 tomorrow, 86 today. Everyone here goes up on average about 3 to 6b0. If you are inland you notice the warmth a little more. That is like 60b0, 3b0 if your near the water. That covers the sunday but that is not the issue. Over the next five days, conquered europe first. 86 yesterday, or 86 today, 91 tomorrow. Then look when the low hundreds come in. It is monday, tuesday, and wednesday, all three days. San jose it is a little better but still hot. Monday, tuesday, and wednesday. 94, 98, 97, thursday at 97. Oakland your numbers look better but a 90b0 day in oaklan on tuesday, when your average is 68 youre going to notice. And if you are wondering are we getting close to records . It depends on where you are. If you are inland, yes. If you are in the bay, not necessarily. So tuesdays daytime highs were lineup in the middle and you can see where the records stand. But just to make the story stand out im going to colorcode the difference. Look at san jose, santa rosa, and oakland. Inland locations will likely be breaking records by tuesday and wednesday. If you are in the immediate bay, dont get me wrong, still going to be hot for oakland but youre going to miss the record by 4 degrees. In concord, i know 13b0 above the record sounds impressive. But he perplexes perspective on that is the records for concord and go back to that far, they go back to the late 90s. Other locations go back into the 1800s. There is your excessive heat watch. It is monday, tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. All 4 days of next week. Significant risk of heat related illness, particularly for anyone who is stuck having to work outdoors. If you are just thinking of ways to recreate and perhaps go easy on yourself, youre going to have to take into account because it is not only the first good spike of heat this season, that would be a story on its own. But this would be a significant heat wave even if we had already had a couple to get acclimated to this. We are going from 0 to 60. Just as we get into the first holiday of summer. And we are doing it while managing a pandemic and shelter in place orders. So it is going to be a tough week to get through like Everything Else we will do it together, think ahead. For you, yes. In the burbs. By for you, i am talking about for julia from the bay area, that it is inland across the county, inland alameda county, yes. Triple digit numbers and not just for one day. Possibly three in a row. So, first lets jump ahead to the first day of this heatwave. Today was warm, tomorrow is a little warmer but memorial day really kicks off this heatwave. Kicks off summer in an unofficial way, and the temperatures are going to kick it off in a very official uncomfortable way. There is the first time and for showing up for inland locations. And concorde were my example. Not everyone hits 100 that many locations will. The bay goes to the mid80s. And at the coast, we are at the 70s as well. So, here is the headline. Excessive heat watch which starts monday morning, doesnt expire until thursday night. That is four days in a row. Of the hottest temperatures we have seen so far. But with numbers that would be a pretty significant heatwave no matter what time my whether it was the first one or not. The only place not shaded in yellow in this map is the coast and even at that temperatures will get into the mid70s and many beaches. Lets first look at tomorrow. Because we still got, you know, the second day of the threeday weekend in store. It is upper 80s tomorrow. These numbers are already going to feel quite warm but these numbers are not hot enough yet to be included in this excessive heat watch. Take a look at the 94 livermore. We are going to come back to that in a second as an example. Take a look at San Francisco. We will top out at 73. We will use you as an example. Take out your part of the bay. Oakland, you are going to 79 tomorrow. We will hit 90 in santa rosa tomorrow. And we will be in the low 90s as you go up north. Okay, back to the 94 livermore. That 3 will be for sunday for the average will be 77. Lets put the heatwave on here, now. Now you see the difference. Tuesday and wednesday. Things start to get better by thursday, but 96 is still hot. Still, close to 20b0 above average. Just to show you, one extreme of the bay area to the other, here comes San Franciscos numbers. Now, 83 does not sound all that bad. But 83 in the city . When an average daytime high as 65, who get their conditioning in the city . It is going to be 83 on tuesday, 82 on wednesday. It will be a prolonged stretch. It is that whole run there, that shows up in the seven day forecast. So, this is where the concern starts to come in on this. Not only is it the first heatwave of the season. Not only are these numbers high enough that i mean, you have a tough time activating to this. If it was late august and we had already been through a couple of heatwave this would be rough. And the duration of this, three or four days, and the nighttime low is, are not going to cool down as much as we would like either. The fourth element of this is, we have still got a shelter in place going on. For many of us or at least you know the quarantine, which is changing day by day and week by week depending on where you live. In general we are still under some order of dont go there like the beaches. And you have really got to know your state parks. If you want to go out, you have to check in on individual locations to make sure they are allowing hikers. Many arent, some are, but there is too many to list make sure you do your research. If you are looking for ways to get outside for the heatwave, make sure your airconditioning is working and someone who you know and care about doesnt have lint condition air conditioning, this will be a test for those first its the countdown to launch at the Kennedy Space center.
