The foothill fire broke out near Thunder Valley casino and expanded rapidly in the dry and windy conditions. Theyve now stopped the forward progress and flames. The fire is 30 percent contained. A mandatory Evacuation Order remains in effect for an Industrial Area just north of roseville. Live look outside, its a dry monday, but the first rain of the fall season and on the way, and it will dramatically reduce the fire risk. A lot of people may be headed to the sierra for the holidays, and a good time to leave is now because the winter storm could make travel dangerous tomorrow. Tuesday night and wednesday allen, its going to be rough driving in the sierra. But i want to pick up on this storm on the big picture. Nothing on high def doppler now. I go back to the forecast as i left it off with you on friday. This is where things stand now in terms of the holiday rain chance, and the details have not budged. Were still on track with for a storm to move through late tuesday through thursday, but the heaviest rain will come through tuesday night along with strong winds across the entire bay area. And im going to go into a lot more detail on what that looks like in the complete forecast, but just to leave you with that snapshot, this will have a major impact on anyone planning on travel in the sierra. Ill show you the snow as well, and theres a quick peek at what to expect tomorrow night. All right, darren, thank you. And the airports are bracing for the busiest travel time of the year. Were protesting because there are a bunch of empty homes and a bunch of homeless people, and we think people should have homes. There was a heavy Police Presence overnight at the camp near oakland city hall. Protesters pitched tents at the plaza last night, but today all the tents were removed. The city said it was in negotiations with protesters yesterday and notified them their belongings would be removed in left past a certain hour and offered people beds and services. Supporters held a rally today backing a San Francisco city supervisor facing a recall. Earlier this month she was at an Election Party for boudin and she was seen chanting profanities against the Police Officers union. Shes since issued an apology and her supporters say shes been a constant champion for them. Shes always stood up for middle class folks, spoken out against bullying, and really done the hard work of making our lives better in San Francisco as ordinary people. Her office says shes currently out of the country, but appreciates the support. Meanwhile the recall petition reads she riled up a crowd with hate and profanity, shes failed the children of San Francisco who may look up to her as a role model. Shes embarrassed our city before the rest of the country. Before campaign 2020, former new york city mayor Michael Bloomberg kicked off his Campaign Today saying its all about defeating president trump. He was a star witness in the russia investigation, and democrats want to question him about possible obstruction of justice by the president. Meanwhile internal white house emails show an effort to justify president trumps decision to withhold money to help ukraine. In emails first obtained by the washington post, the acting white house chief of staff asked the office of management and budget for the legal justification to withhold the aid in early august after the president ordered the hold and after the july 25th phone call with ukraines president where he asked him to investigate joe and hunter biden. He got a machete he got a knife reporter from the roof top of his apartment unit, clinton gannells cant believe what hes recording with his cell phone. Even though hes surrounded by lapd officers, the suspect, with his machete, carjacks this one car in line at chickfila and then watch as he tries to drive away. According to witnesses, after police had yelled out no, no, shot rang out, and the suspect was shot and died on the way to the hospital. Reporter police say they used nonlethal force to try and stop the man. They wouldnt confirm if it was rubber bullets or bean bag, but they did say when he wouldnt stop and continued to approach them, they shot him. He never let go of it ever. He was screaming. An lapd officer suffered scrapes and abrasion. A potential suspect in the halloween shooting in orinda made his first appearance in court. So far he has not been charged in the massacre where 5 people died, but he faces charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. He pled not guilty today and is due back in court december 10thth. And a berkeley cyclist is facing explosive charges. He was stopped last night for a traffic violation. Police determined he was on probation and during a search of his belongings discovered what appeared to be an improvised explosive device. The bomb squad was called in and rendered the device safe, but police have not released details as to what the device actually was. Berkeley police are also looking for this man in connection with a series of thefts at bay area yoga studios. Hes known to frequent the businesses and take wallets and other items from patrons. If you want to see the storm, we have to switch to the wider view and go out into the pacific, and even then you still cant see it. Thats it right there. See that little bend in the clouds . This thing hasnt even developed yet. Weve been tracking it the next 4 days. A storm you cant even see on satellite, and weve been trusting the models completely, and so far theyve been spot on. The forecast hasnt changed much from last week. Well play it forward. Switch from live satellite and put it into the futurecast. Theres that mess of rain under the clouds, and watch what happens. By the time we get to tomorrow, well see it develop into a really well formed comma. Thats a storm thats going to develop pretty much overnight, and its going to be parked right off the Northern California coast by the time we get to tomorrow in the afternoon. Ill switch from the wide view into a higher resolution on the futurecast and bring it forward to tomorrow afternoon. By the early afternoon, weve already noticed a few showers starting to spread across the bay area, but watch back here. This is main event. We play it forward, and now were to about 5 00 in the evening right here, and you can see how well organized that band of red is . Thats a cold front thats going to sweep across the bay area, and thats important for 2 reasons. Thats where the most impressive rain will be. By 5 00, just in time for the commute, theres going to be a very well organized band of heavy rain sweeping across the bay area. We could even have a few thunderstorms embedded in that. But in addition to the rain, its going to get windy. So before i track the rain across the bay area, i want to switch this over and watch what happens to the wind. 5 00, already gusts into the mid30s in the north bay. As the line comes through, it gets very windy on the leading edge, and you can actually track the front moving across the whole bay area. By 7 00, now the winds pick up down here. So its not just the rain tomorrow. Expect it to get quite windy as the system comes through. Now back to timing out the rain. We watch for that well organized line. There it is again at 5 00 in the north bay. Makes it down right across the heart of bay area by 6 00, and where you see the yellows and oranges, you should plan on heavy rain. The good thing about this is its all coming through in a well confined line meaning it wont last long. But when it comes through its going to be impressive and its coming through right for your drive home on tuesday, right before we all start making plans for our wednesday get away. The nice thing about that organized line is by the time we get to 10 00, its gone. Then were left with scattered showers through wednesday. So were not really out of this until we get to thanksgiving day. Theres a chance for scattered showers through wednesday, but its really tomorrow night when the main event comes through and that real beautifully organized line of rain comes through. By the time its all said and done, that only gets us to tuesday night at 10 00, and look how much rain weve gotten anywhere from a half inch to three quarters of an inch. I think thats a good overview. And right now were just covering the wind and rain for tomorrow. Ill have more detail on the snow from the sierra and the saturday storm in the next forecast. Theres the overnight lows. Its going to be cold. Thats the other aspect to the storm. It will make it feel like winter. Daytime highs only in the mid50s.
