Tonight about 35,000 bay area customers stand to lose power in the next day or so in sonoma, napa, and san mateo counties, but theres potential the fire danger could be higher this weekend, so what does it all mean . We have Team Coverage for you tonight starting with kpix 5s andrea nakano. Reporter yes, right now pg e is calling this a potential Public Safety power shut off. As of tonight the Utility Company says it will decide i the morning whether or not communities will go dark once again. Pg e says it has narrowed the scope of the potential power outage, but its still estimated to impact almost 200,000 customers from central to northern california. For the last 2 days pg e has reached out to customers by phone, email, or text to warn them. The California Governor Gavin Newsom admits the utility has improved in that area, but not in much else. If they start shutng off power, it will start at 2 00 tomorrow, and they wont get the all clear to reenergize until thursday afternoon at the earliest. If you turn off the power tomorrow, will you turn it back on again or will you wait until that second event passes . Our plan is always to turn it back on again as quickly, as safely as possible. So it depends on the timing between the events here. At this early date it looks like theres enough time that we would reenergize. Reporter another issue with pg e is its website. With communication being key at this critical time, the companys website once again crashed late today. What reassurance can you give customers that if another event happens, thit will be up and running and you can communicate information. Im checking this myself and keeping an eye on it, and its working at the moment, and it better work. They better address their website, their call center, their communication strategy. Reporter pg e says if the lights go out, its going to test a new technology to try and get the lights back on faster. And we saw grass fires on the eastern side of Contra Costa County the last time we went through this. But the headline is still up here in the north bay. Tonight were learning chilling new details about a shooting that puts 3 santa rosa schools on lockdown today. It all started in front of ridgeway high school. Police say a 17yearold student was arguing with a schoolmate when he pulled out a hand gun, shooting him twice in the torso. The 16yearold victim ran away, and his friend rushed him to the hospital. All while police say the suspect walked back to class. Within minutes, though, officers stormed the campus to lock it down. They also locked down santa rosa high and santa rosa junior college. Surveillance footage led them to the suspect inside a classroom. All the sudden the cops showed up, and they had their guns and started pointing them at us and telling us to stand up. Despite finding the student, police say the gun was nowhere to be found. They say the suspect was caught on camera stashing the firearm inside his backpack and then putting it inside a vehicle. The unknown driver fleeing the scene. Tonight the suspect is facing attempted murder charges. The victim is in stable condition. A dramatic day in the impeachment inquiry. A key witness came forward with what democrats are describing as disturbing and damning testimony. Bill taylor drew audible gasps according to those inside the closed door deposition on tuesday. And 2 Good Samaritans are crediting for stopping a man in the middle of a crime spree. Our reporter spoke with the 2 men that jumped into action. So San Francisco is a good example of how the temperatures are the story in the weather world that are maybe getting a bit overlooked as we continue to focus on the winds in the mountains. And San Francisco stands out for that thursday daytime high. 87. Todays 81 was already noticeably warm, but we still have some warming to do here. And if youre wondering, sure, were well above the average of 69, but the record is 92, so we wont be breaking records here or in inland either. But look how the warm up is different. Santa rosa, youre a good example of inland locations, youve already done the warm up and wont budge. You did 91 today. You go up a degree on thursday. You dont change a whole lot. Similar story for concord. 88 today, 91 thursday. Butcoming into the bay and closer to the coast, the edges start to come down, but the thursday peak holds true. So san jose goes to 89, and the average daytime high in oakland is 69. Theyll be 20 degrees above average by the time we hit thursdays 89degree warm up. But notice thursday when the temperatures spike near the coast because on thursday, these are offshore winds, not only the concern for fire weather in the mountains, but offshore winds also warm us up out here towards the peninsula and the city, there they are. The other thing to point out here is, i know i spotlighted the 65 Miles Per Hour gusts for the mountains. 40 Miles Per Hour gusts through the diablo range, and the east bay are included in that fire weather concern and the red flag warning. Daytime highs for tomorrow look a lot like today. So let me show you the sevenday forecast.
