Reporter santa rosa detectives say an investigation into a bizarre unprovoked stabbing here on december 21st is finally beginning to pick up speed. It was about 6 30 at night when this man walked up to a man sitting in the cafe inside lolas market and stabbed him in the neck. The injuries left the 61yearold victim in Critical Condition at a santa rosa hospital. The stabbing was captured on surveillance video. What isnt seen in the video is a tattoo that looks like this, the grim reaper. Witnesses told santa rosa detectives that the suspect wearing this puffy jacket had a similar tattoo on his foreman. A 2,500 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. The recent wave of Sexual Harassment cases has hit the bay area Restaurant Industry tonight. The chef owner of three popular oakland restaurants, the chronicle reports he is stepping away from his businesses after 17 former employees accused him of sexually explicit language and behavior. A former barista told the chronicle that he put his arms around her and asked inappropriate questions about his sex life. His other restaurants include boot and shoe service and penrose. An outside company is investigating. In just five days Recreational Marijuana becomes legal here in california. Heres how the chp is preparing to keep stoned drivers off of our roads. Across the country from 2005 to 2015 the percentage of drivers with drugs in their systems involved in deadly crashes increased from 26. 2 to 42. 6 . A Public Memorial Service will be held saturday at 8 30 in the morning at the Christian Life center in stockton. Earlier today hundreds of chp officers honored the officer and his family. His wife sat holding a white rose as did his children who watched along with other family members. His passion was going out, doing the job, arresting dui drivers. And hes taken from us by what appears to be a dui driver. He was killed on Christmas Eve while patrolling the freeway. Chp says the driver who hit his patrol car is 22years old. But the chp is not releasing anymore information on the suspect for now. He is still in the hospital tonight. A sheriff deputy attacked in Sonoma County tonight. At this hour a county wide man hunt for the suspect. Investigators say the 57yearold punched the deputy several times on duncan road around 5 40 p. M. The deputy deployed his taser but the suspect got away. Sheriffs say the suspect has an outstanding warrant for violating his probation. Tonight San Francisco police say expects to see a Large Police Presence as we ring in the new year. Police say that theyll have extra Police Officers throughout the city. Police did not say if its a direct response to the foiled Christmas Day attack at pier 39. But they did tell us theyll be prepared for any threat. Two officers pulled two teens from this white pontiac after it lost control, flipped over, and caught fire. You can see the smoke rising from the hood. Michael myers is describing the first time he met the Alameda County sheriffs deputy at a freeway off ramp in hayward. I finally told myself im going to go out there and write him a citation for the panhandling. But instead of writing that ticket he struck up a conversation with him. I start to get to know more about him and realize that he didnt need a citation, he needed someone to help him. He said michael wasnt what he expected. He didnt have a criminal record or Substance Abuse problem and had even tried to get himself off the streets. He told me no you dont understand ive done it before, i get turned away. Ive applied for benefits before i dont have id so i cant get any assistance. He decided to help. The first step was helping michael get his birth certificate. Something michael had never seen before. I thought i was born Michael Myers. But according to my birth certificate my name is gordon myers. Michael is actually his middle name. The next step trying to prove hes a resident of california. Proof of residency which im homeless. A letter from a local church and another from the Sheriffs Department met that requirement. He finally got the one things that could get him off the streets, his california id card. Its something as simple as helping them just to get them back on their feet by getting an id so they can receive some state or government federal benefits. Thats the least we can do as Law Enforcement officers. But both men said they gained so much more. We both realized at the same time that theres a real person there. And not just a stereotype that we saw when we first met each other. The Alameda CountySheriffs Department said they are now trying to work with local lawmakers and the dmv to streamline the process for the homeless to get an id card. When the clean up crew took it off the wall they made a startling discovery. A nest of 83 bats. Mexican free tail bats to be exact. It was 10 00 a. M. Is and since bats are nocturnal they were knocked out. Because the bats were basically sleeping they literally started sliding down the house and falling to the ground. An animal Patrol Officer arrived and scooped them all up and brought them here where they were checked for broken wings, warmed up in an incubator and given exhaustion. By dusk that same evening they released them back into the wild where you guessed it some of them flew right back to the painting. St. Francis is the patron saint of animals. We didnt request their religious affiliation, but it is quite interesting that this is where their home is. So the homeowner says theyll just leave the bats alone for now. The Humane Society says that bats actually make great neighbors. They eat a lot of airborne pests and also help to pollinate the local flowers. There you go.
