At least 25 women have publicly described Inappropriate Conduct by the disgraced studio boss. In an investigation published yesterday, the new yorker claims three women accused weinstein of Sexual Assault. And Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie told the New York Times that weinstein sexually harassed them. Jericka duncan spoke with the new yorker reporter who uncovered an audio tape of weinstein admitting forceful touching. Good morning. Good morning. The Weinstein Company is promising a full investigation. Multiple sources, past and present employees told the new yorker they witnessedouching and groping by Harvey Weinstein. One of his alleged victims told us when she was 23, she suddenly found herself alone inside his new york city apartment. He came back out 100 fully naked. Katherine kendalls meeting with Harvey Weinstein two decades ago is still fresh in her mind. Just give me a massage. Just let me kiss you. Well, if you wont give me ray massage, will you at least pick up your shirt and let me see your breasts. Im like no, im leaving. Ronan farrow conducted a tenmonth long investigation for the new yorker. There are 13 women in this story. Three of them are alleging rape. One of those women says this 2015 weinstein groped her and tried to put his hand up her skirt. She went to the nypd who asked her to wear a wire. The next day gutierrez recorded the conversation as weinstein tried to get her into his hotel room. The audio was obtained by the new yorker. Yesterday you touch my breast. Please, im sorry, just come on. Im used to that. Youre used to that . Yes, come in. No, but im not used to that. I wont do it again. Come on. Weinstein was questioned by the nypd, but the Manhattan District Attorney declined to prosecute him. The Weinstein Company says it is shocked and dismayed by the allegations of extreme Sexual Misconduct and sex assault, which came as an utter surprise to the board. Farrow told me it appears there is a reason it took 20 years for this story to unfold. The culture of fear but also broad array of legal instruments, settles that were used. A machine designed to keep these claims quiet. To keep Harvey Weinstein safe . To keep him employed . Described in detail in this story is a legal and Public Relations team that had that very goal, yes. Weinsteins wife, georgina chapman, told People Magazine yesterday their tenyear long marriage is over. They have two children. Former president and mrs. Obama said they were disgusted about the allegations. Hillary clinton said she was shocked and appalled. Weinstein hosted many fundraisers. One in 2013 brought in over 2 million. Thank you. Just disgusting, disturbing, all of it to read it in full detail. To hear the tape too, its very chilling when you hear it because his voice is so recognizable on that tape. Im sure more questions to come out of this. Absolutely. And for that in our next half hour, New York Times correspondent jodi kantor will join us with her reporting, the allegations by Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie. And there are new questions this morning about the timeline of what unfolded on the night of the las vegas massacre. A significant change has some people now wondering whether Police Officers could have stopped the gunman, Stephen Paddock. Investigators say that he shot a Hotel Security guard before he opened fire on concert goers. Jamie yuccas is in las vegas near the location of the shooting. Jamie, good morning. Reporter good morning. Mgm, which owns mandalay bay, has repeatedly denied our requests for an interview. However, they released a statement casting doubt on the events laid out by Law Enforcement saying, quote, we cannot be certain about the most recent timeline. What is currently being expressed may not be accurate. The key question now is whether Hotel Security knew about an active shooter before paddocks deadly rampage. Well, theres a couple things. One is, were being transparent. Im telling you right now today that timeline might change again. Reporter clark county investigators admitted monday Hotel Security guard jesus campos was shot six minutes before Stephen Paddock opened fire on concert goers. But last friday, undersheriff Kevin Mcmahill hailed campos as a hero for interrupting the shooter. He tried to explain the changing timeline on nevada public radio, but raised more questions when he said that a Maintenance Worker was also on the 32nd floor when shots were first fired. As the Maintenance Man as well is arriving in the hallway, they have some communication and theyre just riddled with hundreds of bullets. Reporter assistant sheriff tom roberts told the Los Angeles Times campos used his radio to call Hotel Security before the rampage, but the exact timing of that call is still unclear. Mcmahill said Hotel Security and First Responders did everything they could. I dont think the hotel dropped the ball. I can tell you that First Responder resources were on the scene very, very quickly. Reporter investigators have found that paddock made his reservation at the mandalay bay for september 25th. Three days earlier than originally thought. But did not check in until the 28th. They are also trying to confirm if paddock used a freight elevator at the hotel in the days leading up to the attack. Investigators tell cbs news they visited this shooting range outside mesquite, nevada, believing paddock may have practiced shooting two days before he carried out his attack in las vegas. President trumps feud with an influential republican senator could complicate his push for tax cuts. The president today will go to an Air National Guard base in harrisburg, pennsylvania, to sell his plan. Many in the audience will be truckers. Major garrett is at the white house with the prospects for the first major federal tax overhaul in decades. Major, good morning. Reporter good morning. Lets cut to the chase. Passing tax cuts would be a huge legislative victory for this white house. And important for the president as he nears the end of his first year in office. But mr. Trumps insistence on provoking the ire of fellow republicans, including those in the senate, well, that could complicate things. Im giving the largest tax cuts in the history of this country. In addition to that there will be reform. Reporter President Trump is now putting lower taxes ahead of a simpler tax code, but his ongoing spat with Tennessee Republican bob corker could jeopardize even this less ambitious plan. Corker is one of 50 republican votes needed to pass a budget and then cut taxes. With just 52 republicans total, the margin is narrow. Corker had already threatened to vote against acrosstheboard tax cuts if they increase the deficit. If it looks like to me, chuck, were adding one penny to the deficit, i am not going to be for it. Reporter the president was asked if his fight with corker will slow him down. I dont think so at all. I think were well on our way. Its very the people of this country want tax cuts. Reporter but mr. Trump knocked corker again, even as he garbled the facts. The failing New York Times set Liddle Bob Corker up by recording his conversation. Was made to sound a fool and thats what i am dealing with. As the audio recording released by the times makes clear, corker asked to have his interview recorded. I know theyre recording this and i hope you are too. Yeah, i am. Reporter so his sharp criticism could not be misconstrued. We could be heading towards world war iii with the comments that hes making. Mr. President , is senator corker right that youre putting the u. S. On the path to world war iii . We were on the wrong path before. Were on the right path right now, believe me. Reporter that was a reference to north korea, the focus of continuing economic and diplomatic pressure, despite the president s repeated rhetorical references to potential military options. Top officials here say that on a global basis, north koreas isolation and economic pressure are intensifying and theyre beginning to feel the squeeze. All right, major, thank you so much. President trump is responding to reports that secretary of state Rex Tillerson called him a moron. The president told forbes in an interview, quote, i think its fake news. But if he did that, i guess well have to compare iq tests and i can tell you whos going to win. Well, the White House Press secretary was asked yesterday about what the president meant with his apparent iq challenge for tillerson. The president certainly never implied that the secretary of state was not incredibly intelligent. He made a joke, nothing more than that. Well, the famed high iq group moan as mensa offered to test both the president and tillerson. No word yet whether either of them has accepted. Okay. Okay is right. Moving on. The u. S. Military put on a new show of force overnight against north korea. The two b1 bombers flew from the island of guam to the Korean Peninsula for drills with south korean jets. The longrange bombers can fly at supersonic speeds and carry a heavy load of bombs. Two top naval officers are relieved of duty after a recent collision involving a u. S. Warship. The uss john mccain suffered Severe Damage when it collided in august with an oil tanker near singapore. Ten american sailors were killed and five others were injured. The commander and executive officer have now been reassigned. American soccer fans are in shock this morning because the u. S. Mens team will miss next years world cup in russia. Long distance blast, and its alvin jones one for the legend books the u. S. Lost its final qualifying game 21 in trinidad last night. The team needed only a tie to reach the world cup. Every time you have a setback, you have to look at things, reevaluate and get better. As a program, you know, we have to get better. The americans had played in every world cup since 1990. That was a tough blow. A Michigan Court faces strong criticism over how it handled a custody case involving a convicted rapist and his victim. San jose down into the low 50s. Heres a look at the winds coming from the west. Thats helping clear the smoky skies out. But as those winds are expected to increase, thats going to increase the fire behavior. We are going to see continued erratic fire behavior especially because wind direction shifts later on today which is why we have a red flag warning and wind advisory in place but at least temperatures will be cooler down into the low 70s for those north and east bay hills and in the mid 70s along the bay. Paltrow said she was harassed by weinstein when he suggested to go to hotel room for massages. Her boyfriend confronted weinstein. Weinstein was fired sunday by his company. Four of nine Board Members resigned as a result of the original revelations. New york times correspondent is a cbs news contributor. Jodi, good morning. This has been incredible reporting. Tell me about how you got paltrow and Angelina Jolie to reveal this abuse . They wanted to come forward in the wake of the first story we broke. They wanted to support other women. She said we need to send a message this kind of behavior towards women ends now. There are reports about that seems to go beyond simply h lly harassment. Is this just the tip of the iceberg . Is there a sense that a lot of other things are coming out in the story . We are in the process of understanding the scope and the span of what appears to have happened here. I think in terms of the really serious allegations that you are discussing and also in terms of paltrow and Angelina Jolie we are all asking the question of lets look at 30 years of movie history here. What were we really watching on screen . What were we really watching at the oscars and what kind of behavior was it covering up. For the first time you are at the table with the story we asked if there is more to come and you said we will see. One thing that stands out is the Board Members saying they are shocked and appalled and they had no idea about this type of behavior. And then based on your reporting we are hearing it is an open secret. What do you make of the boards comment about that . I will tell you a story about the Weinstein Company. In 2015 junior executive writes a memo about Sexual Harassment and basically becomes internal whistle blower and authors this report well documented and describes very disturbing incidents including a colleague being forced to give Harvey Weinstein a massage when he was naked in a hotel room and sends it off to executives in the company. Board members . The question becomes what is going to happen to address this. The board gets a notification that there is a complaint and are told come take a look at it. They are told right afterwards the complaint has been withdrawn. Now, what really happened is that powerful lawyers stepped in and Lauren Oconnor took a settlement meaning taking compensation for what happened to her and agreed to stay silent on the matter. Should the Board Members have pursued something further . Who are Board Members . This is an all male board. The board is saying this is an utter surprise. The idea that this was an utter surprise, let me show a clip from the oscars and seth mcf mcfarlane joking about it. You no longer have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein. That joke and the laughter afterwards. That was an early 2013. Some of the abuses, the allegations of abuses that we chronicled took place in 2014 and 2015. Here people are laughing about it in public and then the behavior appears to have been going on afterwards. What do we know about harvey and his lawyers in terms of what they are doing in response to all of this . There was a report tonight, last night that Harvey Weinstein was at some sex addiction clinic in europe. The response to us about the casting couch was minimal. They basically denied any nonconsenseual sex said and we dont want to talk about it anymore. He is going to be spending time with his family. Is the brother leading the charge against him or stories about that . I think that my impression based on reporting is that Bob Weinstein is trying to save the company. They are giving it a different name and trying to maintain deals with other powerful companies. Incredible reporting by you and your colleagues at the New York Times. Thank you for being here. Sounds like more to come from you. Thank you very much. Michigan judge ordered a Sexual Assault victim to show her child with her attacker. Why the case shows a gap in the law. Now, one researcher is sounding the alarm of what he calls a silent sleep loss epidemic. Hes scientist Matthew Walker whos studied it for more than 20 year. He teaches neuroscience and psychology at the university of california berkeley an hes published more than 100 scientific studies. Walkers new book is why we sleep. He said it has a catastrophic impact on our health, Work Productivity, and childrens education. The book is published by aol. I think its become one of the greatest public challenges. Why . Every disease thats killing us from cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, even suicide, they all have significant and causal links to insufficient sleep and if you look at the epidemiological data, short sleep equals a shorter life. Whats the link . The link actually is manyfold, so upstairs in the brain we know that it create as toxic protein buildup, a protein thats called beta amyloid. That protein is related to alzheimers. Downstairs it lees to immune problems and chemistry issues that increased cardiovascular disease and increase cancerrelated molecules. You also want to eat more when youre not getting sufficient sleep. Youre fatter. You gain weight more quickly. Also if youre exercising actually its on the foundation. Diet and exercise. Whats so great about your book is its researchbased. One third of adults take naps. What does research say about that . Well, naps are a doubleedged sword. You have to be quite careful. Firstly, ask yourself why youre napping. Sleep isnt like a bank. You cant accumulate debt and then pay it off or nap over the weekend. Naps can be dangerous in the sense that during the day the longer that were awake, we build up sleeiness and thats good. Its healthy. It means well fall asleep and stay asleep well at night, but if you nap during the afternoon, its almost like a valve on a pressure cooker, you release some of that sleepiness so then it makes it that much more difficult to fall asleep. It adds to your productive and good feeling as well. Naps if you make them regular can have productivity benefits. You say dont nap after 3 00 p. M. Yeah. If youre struggling with sleep in the evening or if you cant nap regularly, the advice is dont nap at all, but naps do have some benefit to them. Nasa figured this back out in 1980s. They called it the nasa nap culture. It improved Work Productivity by 30 and alertness by 50 . If they are regular, thats good. You recommend against sleeping pills, the bad, the badder, and the ugly. Theyre a class of drugs that we call the sedative hypnotic and sedation is not sleep. So youre simply removing consciousness. Youre not producing naturalistic sleep. The second is theyve been related to a higher risk of mortality of death and a high risk of cancer too. To make sure we get to, this what do you do to to make sure you get as much sleep as you should . I think there are probably five key tips. Firstly, keep it regular. Go to bed at the same time, wake up at the same time, no matter what. The second is darkness. Were actually a dark deprived society. So at night try to dim your lights. Only put half of the lights on. You dont need them all. Limit screen time that allowed that melatonin hormone to develop to get you to sleep. Keep it cool. 65 degrees. 65 to 67. Ive been turning it down. Your body needs to drop its temperature to get to sleep and you help it to do that. Thats the third thing. The fourth is walk it out. Dont stay in bed if youve been awake because at the that point your bed lends association to being awake. Many people will say to me im sort of falling asleep on the couch with the television, get into my bed and im wide awake. Because you havent learned the association. Get out, go to a different room, dark light, dim light, read a book. Only return when youre sleepy and then youll relearn the association between your bed equaling sleepiness. Finally and it makes me deeply unpopular, no caffeine after 2 00 p. M. And no nightcap. Alcohol is one of the most misunderstood chemicals. Its a sedative. Youre just knocking yourself out and it leads to fragmented sleep, you wake up many times during the night and blocks your extreme state. You didnt mention food. The advice is dont go to bed too full, dont go to bed too hungry. Thank you, matt. Sleep cures a lot of things. Its on sale now.
