Chp says the victims were headed westbound on highway 24 last night when a gray sedan pulled up alongside their suv near 51st street and somebody inside fired a shot. The suv was hit nobody was hurt. But if you did see anything, youre asked to give the chp a call. San jose music teacher is under arrest tonight accused of having a sexual relationship with a teenaged student. And police say it went on for years. Kpix 5s maria medina is live at the Dartmouth Middle School where the teacher was taken into custody yesterday. Reporter the community now reeling at Dartmouth Middle School where he taught as a music teacher and at branham high where knife was an assistant band director just one day after San Jose Police arrested him. Knife is accused of a three year sexual relationship with one of his students. The alleged victim just 13 at the time. Police say he threatened his victim saying hed post nude photos of the teen. The Campbell Union superintendent sent out an e mail to parents this morning, saying in part quote shocking. It was you know, i mean, i didnt know much about him. Reporter here dogs. Reporter here in lake tahoe, they are actually able to monitor the bears 24 hours a day. They have 18 cameras. And sadly two weeks ago after already losing a bear, they found another one here extremely sick. Were taking care of about 96 degrees. Reporter the lake tahoe wildlife care hosts a cozy den in the National Worst for or forest for orphaned cubs. They have limited contact with humans to ensure one day they can roam free. Every bird and animal that comes through lake tahoe wildlife has one goal. Thats to be released back into the wild. Reporter tom and his wife cheryl opened the center for wildlife 40 years ago. In the 17 years they cared for the cubs, all 96 have returned to the forest until now. Its hard. Its very hard. Reporter the cub nevada was the first to pass after suffering a seizure. Venacouldnt figure out why, then fillmore grew sick and died. To have us lose one and then second a lose lose a second one two weeks later, just beside ourself, we dont know what to do. Reporter a local vet found both cubs were infected with the virus, which is primarily linked to dogs. Which is why theyre in quarantine. The fact that weve never had a situation like this. Maybe weve been lucky. But maybe weve been doing things right and something happened this year. We dont know. I dont know if we will ever know exactly how it came in. Reporter he says the four remaining cubs also tested positive for the virus. But arent showing any signs of illness. Fact that it hasnt affected them yet is a good thing. Reporter he cant imagine losing another and is taking every step to make sure these cubs make it back to the great outdoors. Unless Something Else comes up negative, the plan is that theyll be released sometime late january, early february. Reporter sadly, there isnt a cure at this point for the virus. They are monitoring these bears, they seem lively and happy. Hopefully they stay that way. And as promised earlier in the newscast were going to be looking for an update on Hurricane Nate. And heres the latest. Its making landfall at the mouth of the Mississippi River at this hour. Its category 1. So its a minimal hurricane. But still, with gusts to 150 miles an hour, with rainfall in the path of this, as high as 10 inches. That could be bad news. The only good part of this is its moving quickly. It will be downgraded from a category 1 as it races across mississippi into georgia by the time it heads up into the ohio valley, it will just be low pressure. But in the meantime it will be a wild and windy night across parts of the gulf. For us, the breezes are stirring the trees out there a little bit as we look toward diablo. About 90 minutes ago, Hurricane Nate made landfall near the mouth of the Mississippi River. The category 1 storm is packing winds as fast as 85 Miles Per Hour. Is expected to hit several states along the gulf coast through the weekend. The hurricane headed toward gulf port, mississippi. And that is where cbs reporter courtney z abowski is now. Whats the latest . Reporter well, the hurricane made its first landfall just to the south of us but we are expecting a second landfall here in gulf port or near gulf port in the next few hours. Meantime the wind and rain is getting fierce. Sandbags are filling up. And Business Owners are boarding up. As Hurricane Nate races toward the central gulf coast. In mississippi, residents were warned to evacuate area beaches and seek higher ground. Flooding is a major concern for blakely. Well, we dont know. We know its a category 2. Just being prepared. Reporter governor says the powerful storm could create a storm surge of 11 to 13 feet here. A big storm and its moving in a hurry. It will get a lot of wind and a lot of water. Reporter this marina in gulf port was destroyed during hurricane katrina. And is now under a mandatory evacuation. Some people spent their days securing their boats ahead of the storms arrival. While more than half of the owners got their boats out. I had a plan and i was ahead of the curve. So now is too late. Matter of fact, yesterday afternoon might have been too late. Reporter parts of louisiana are under a mandatory evacuation. Governor John Bel Edwards urged residents in those areas to get the shelters now before nightfall and hunker down. Three quarters of all fatalities are related to hurricanes happen because of water. And we dont want people driving at night. Reporter as a Tropical Storm, nates torrential rain caused chest high flooding in central america. The storm is blamed for killing search dozen people there several dozen people there. Ahead of the storm, about five shelters were opened up in this area. And theres now a curfew in effect until tomorrow morning. Brian . So thats how it looks on the ground, heres the satellite. Boy this roared across the gulf at 22 Miles Per Hour overnight and right now making landfall its a category 1 storm. With winds up to 85 miles an hour. With gusts to 115 and the big problem will be not just the wind, but the rains as much as half a foot of rain will fall overnight tonight. And after that, it will move across parts of central mississippi into g where it will be down georgia where it will be downgraded to a Tropical Storm then a tropical depression and then just low pressure over new england which will get rain later in the week. But in the meantime at this time its roaring ashore on the gulf coast and update you on that through the night. We are learning more about the driver of a car that plowed into a crowd of pedestrians in a popular london tourist area and nearly a dozen people were hurt. But Roxana Saberi reports police say it was a traffic accident, not terrorism. [ sirens ] reporter in a country on edge after several recent terrorist attacks, a crash in one of londons busiest tourist areas saturday sparked a swift response. Three involved vehicles with the Terror Threat set at severe, authorities think another attack is highly likely. And investigators in las vegas have now checked out more than 1,000 leads but they still dont know what motivated a wealthy retiree to open fire on a Country Music festival from a hotel window. The last night about 200 people showed up outside San Jose City hall for a candle light vigil for Vegas Shooting victim michelle vowe. The san jose native was 32 years old and was attending her first Country Music festival. She had texted an older sister a few hours before the shooting started last sunday. It was her final communication with her family. Well, many california survivors of the mass shooting are now back home recovering from both physical wounds and emotional scars.
