Drivers got out of their vehicles and simply had to wait out the investigation. Chopper 5 is up over traffic. The westbound lanes of i80 finally reopened around 3 00 today, but the traffic around emeryville is still a huge mess. It doesnt look like it will get any better any time soon. We are also following some breaking news out of the Yosemite National park. A rock slide has killed one person and injured another. This happened on a very popular hiking trail up el capitan. We want to show you this photo that was just posted on facebook. And you can see what looks like some gust there. Climbers appear to have captured a part of that slide. Also following a developing story out of richmond this afternoon. Police are searching for a driver who struck a 3yearold and then took off leaving the boy in critical condition. A bus loses control and crashes into another bus. Chopper 5 over the scene on fremont street this morning at around 9 30. Reporter well liz, its been a tough day for transportation around the bay area. This is that bus that was previously up on the sidewalk. It is just about to be towed away. You can see how extensive the damage to the front of the vehicle is from crashing into the poll earlier. Ac transit tells us they do believe this will be a total loss as you can imagine how terrifying it was for people standing on the sidewalk as it came careening half of a city block towards the miraculous area. Police are telling us they believe everyone will be just fine. The bus was going about 40 miles an hour when it went on the sidewalk. Reporter don was working a construction job this morning. My friend here saw the bus coming when we were underneath the scaffolding and he said what the heck. I turned around and started running. Reporter you looked up to se s anstacopped bay street pole as Passengers Evacuated the only way they could. I saw people climbing out of the windows. It was crazy. Two buses exited on fremont street. The other bus was behind it and it should have been attempting to make the same turn, but lost control. First hitting vehicles, then the first bus before it went onto the sidewalk coming to a rest between folsom and howard street. This is completely anonymous. Reporter robert lyles with ac transit sits the bus company will launch their own internal investigation. Police say five people were hospitalized from this crash including both bus drivers, but none of the injuries are considered life threatening. Initial reports indicate the driver of the bus that landed on the sidewalk lost control. Its still unclear as to why. Usually the operators are experienced. They have been with ac transit for a number of years and no indication there have been issues in the past. It has just now because this bus is being moved, then reopened, police are telling us its still under investigation. San francisco firefighters kept three small grass fires from spreading today. Chopper 5 was over the fires. Those flames broke out in three different locations spreading to a total of three acres. Derick almena and max harris have just pleaded not guilty to 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. The men are accused of allowing conditions in the cluttered Warehouse Space to pose a significant fire hazard. 36 people died at the ghost ship in december of last year. In lafayette a woman was struck and killed by a car on highway 24 on Pleasant Hill road. Chopper 5 was over the scene just after it happened at about 11 00 this morning. Only one eastbound lane was open while chp investigated. Its unclear why the woman was on the road. Chp is asking any witnesses to come forward to help with the investigation. During the exchange two officers were hit by the suspects gunfire. Both officers have since been released from the hospital recovering from their injuries.
