The weapon used in the murder of a 23yearold man last month was stolen from the personal vehicle of an sfpd officer. Abel esquivel was walking home from work august 15th when he was shot and killed here at 26th and south van ness avenue. Abel was taken to San Francisco general hospital. He died from gunshot wounds to his rabd and chest. Abdomen and chest. Three days earlier the gun used to shoot rainel was stolen from to shoot abel was stolen from the personal car of an sfpd officer. We do have a personnel investigation going to determine the circumstances. Reporter defense the officers personal it was the officers personal weapon, and not a duty weapon. Outside the Commission Meeting tonight, one commissioner had this to say. I am surprised, given the fact that guns in officers car have been in the news in the last 18 months. And crime being committed on that, concern the and surprised that there wouldnt be more care leaving a gun in a car. Reporter the San Francisco Police Officers association released a statement and said the officer, a highly decorated veteran is devastate burd he didnt know his gull devastated but he didnt know his gun was stolen. He didnt realize the vehicle had been broken into nor that the firearm had been stolen. Last year the state of california announced a law requiring all individuals including Law Enforcement to lock all weapons in an unattended car in a tru lockbox attached to the frame. The city of San Francisco has a similar policy. How the weapon that killed equi vel was stored is esquivel was stored is one of the questions. The Department Policy there, a Department Policy on storage of weapons in vehicles. Its pretty clear. That the vehicle, the weapon is supposed to be stored in a locked container affixed to the vehicle. I dont have those details yet because this investigation is ongoing. Tonight two Top Democrats announced a deal on daca. The deferred action for childhood arrivals. That deal could protect nearly 800,000 dreamers. Immigrants brought to this country illegally as children. The Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority leader nancy pelosi announced the agreement after they had dinner tonight with President Trump at the white house. The president did not invite any republicans. President obamas daca program protected dreamers from deportation. The Trump Administration announced an end to it last week. Then President Trump called on congress to find a solution. In a join statement today, pelows and he schumer said we agree to enshrine the protections of daca into law quickly and to work out a package of Border Security excluding the wall. Emergency responders today carried surviving patients out on stretchers and in wheelchairs. Irma knocked out power at the rehabilitation tower at Hollywood Hills sunday. Authorities say the patients suffered inside the building ever since. Investigation preliminarily shows that the ac unit in this place behind us under investigation was not working. And they were utilizing portable units. Which were insignificant to reduce the excessive heat in the facility. Five women and three men died. They range in age from 71 to 99. More than a dozen other patients are in Critical Condition tonight. People are just absolutely shocked. That someone in a staff would not know enough that a frail, elderly person is dying of heat exhaustion, and would at least know to dial 911 this is what is inexcusable. According to federal records, the nursing home is ranged much below average. It has a 1 out of 5 reallying. The owner has a history of Healthcare Fraud charges. According to the Justice Department he settled a 15 million complaint in 2006. In a statement the center said it is fully cooperating with the investigation. In the meantime tonight, more than three million homes and businesses in florida are still without power. And it could be an among before the lights are back on in the keys.
