The state needs billions, need to decide how to get it and where it should be sent. State senator mark leno will be here to break down priorities. Raider nation braces for what may be the final deadline in the quest for a new stadium in oakland. Thats right. It happens friday. We will talk about the possibilities as they stand today. Lots coming up within the next hour. Lets take a check of your forecast. It will be a hot one with hazy skies as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge. Temperatures are in the 60s, 67 in livermore, above seasonal average. Santa rosa is 56 degrees, our cool spot this morning. We are at the apex of the heat wave today. A heat advisory is in effect until 9 00 tonight. Cooler weather is on the way. Topping our news, at least two people are injured after a truck plowed into an Insurance Office building in vallejo earlier this morning. One is a pedestrian. Later a person involved in the crash showed up at a hospital in martinez suffering from life threatening stab wounds. Vallejo police are trying to piece together details. We will bring you more information as soon as we get it. A pedestrian is dead after an Early Morning crash in antioch. Chp reports the collision happened just before 1 00 am on the east bound highway 4 off ramp at lo independent e tree way. The victim has not been identified. The hazy lazy days of summer, you probably noticed the smoke in the air this weekend. It will be back again today. The cause, the fires burning to the north of us plus a shift in wind direction. Lack of a sea breeze is causing smoke to funnel into the bay area and settle here. This morning crews are still working to repair a pipe that burst in vallejo. The break was bad news for residents yesterday who spent the sweltering day without water. The 20inch water main burst on friday night. The niners lost their home opener to the Houston Texans last night. The final score was 2310. The niners hosted cowboys next week in santa clara. Thats a look at your top stories. Back to you. Tomorrow state legislature meets in a special session to decide how to improve transportation. Thats a tall order to fill. A lot of talk will revolve around how to fix existing highways and bridges. The current fuel tax is not doing the job leaving 5. 7 billion in unfunded repairs. Lawmakers need to come up with some sort of sustainable cash flow. There are several options. One proposal has drivers cutting gas use in half however at the same time when we are trying to raise money from the gas tax to get roads done. That has critics fuming. You think you can cut your gas use by 50 . Never. I wish. Reporter that is just what a law making its way through sacramento would do, commit the state to cutting the gas and diesel use by half in the next 15 years. Theyre aggressive. Theyre goals we need to set because our environment depends on reducing Greenhouse Gases. A noble goal but how lawmakers plan to make the big cut in gas use however is not being spelled out in the bills. How we get there baseball a combination of human behavior, technology, a factor of market forces. The lack of specifics has critics in Petroleum Industry organizing protests and raising questions about Economic Impact of setting goals in stone. We are asking for a recreation of not moving the bar so high so early. Bank rolling ads like this one on what they see down the road if state regulators get to call the shots on gas and diesel use. Regulators limiting how far we can drive by rationing gas, increasing cost or penalizing drivers for using too much. Changing regulations on the kind of cars we drive, how much gas we can buy. There are a vast array of options that the come forward. Doesnt the public deserve to know in writing how we plan to get to the goals . I think if any of us knew that, we would say it. If you can afford a tesla, this wont matter to you. What does the average person get . They hopefully will have a world for their kids. That will be an interesting debate in sacramento. At the same time we are trying to reduce our use of gas and even mandate it we are trying to get more money from the gas tax for the roads. Well be sitting down with state senator mark leno and saying how do you balance these out. There are proposals. One is maybe taxing drivers on how much they drive. It will be interesting to see where lawmakers fall on this debate because it is so wide open. There so many options on how to get money. Nobody wants to be targeted on that one. There is one transportation project going forward. It is in store for Richmond San Raphael bridge. Not a moment too soon. Traffic has been heavier and heavier. Traffic is up by 1. 5 million vehicles since 2011 because since many people cant afford to live in marin they like to work there. The jobs are better. You get benefits. A lot of people transport from east bay to marin county. The traffic increase is linked to the eek on than me which is a good thing. They plan to add additional commuter lane and bike pedestrian path. This project will be fully funded with Bay Area Toll Authority fund. One bay area city about to talk about the birds and the bees. Moraga is holding a hearing on legalization of backyard chickens bees and other small farm creatures. The proposal is modeled after rules adopted last year in lafayette allowing barn yard livestock to live in Single Family home zones without a permit. There are plenty of bay area cities that allow backyard chicken but this would go further, allowing owners to slaughter the livestock. Thats the ugly part of it. But there are benefits. My friends are doing this. You have all the fresh eggs, fresh fertilizer. You dont have to deal with factory farming eggs. There are benefits. Does it get noisy in the backyard . Roosters are not allowed because theyre noisy obviously. Halved animals like goats and sheep are not allowed. A mystery in martinez. Something is killing the beavers. Five baby beavers called kits turned up dead last week. Department of fish and wildlife is investigating. Neighbors who have been watching the beavers are wondering if the deaths could be drought related. Contra costa county could be getting new housing for inmates. Sheriffs office will propose the idea at the board of supervisors, adding units to West County Detention Facility in richmond. The plan is to use housing to provide treatment programs for inmates. We are trying to replace cells not add to cells and shift a population out of the martinez jail. The money would come primarily from an 80 million state grant. Tuesdays vote by supervisors could authorize the grant application. There is some opposition. Prison reform advocates dont want to see this. They say we dont want bigger jails. We want fewer people in jail. The sheriff says they will use the beds for rehab, education, Mental Health programs. They say we need the space to get this done. Critics atheyre not sure the sheriff will come through with the programs and this might be bait and switch. Part of the problem is we are talking about getting money from the state grants to actually build housing but its a county that has to fund the programs which are fairly expensive. You get starter money but you have to sustain it and do you have the money to sustain . Red hot bay area Housing Market has a community trying to protect a certain affordable housing. An unprecedented moving to protect Mobile Home Parks, one of the few Housing Options people can afford. San jose has 59 parks, more than any other city in california. With real estate sky rocketing there is pressure on park owners to sell to developers. It is not about the people. It is not about our lives. It is not about us feeling safe in our homes. The bottom line for mobile park homeowners is money. The mayor is proposing a six month moratorium on Mobile Home Park conversions in san jose to fix an outdated ordinance that laid out rules for how they can close. State law prohibits the city of stepping in the way of Property Owners who want to sell. It seems like this is buying time for people who live in mobile homes to maybe find an option and also for the city to possibly change the rules. These moratoriums are bandaids on a bigger problem. Satisfy than a clara is considering allowing homeless tent incampments as a solution to combat homeless problems. It really is a sad state of affairs. Advocates say the crack downs we have been seeing on homeless incampments are traumatizing and lead homeless to build incampments elsewhere. Theyre urging supervisors to allow a policy of so called tent cities sanctioned by county. Take people used to living outdoors with no organization whatsoever and bring them to an incampment where you have rules. They have responsibilities. They have to clean their own trash. One proposed tent city in sunnyville would house 100 people a night. If all goes according to plan that can open by november. Friday is the deadline for the plan to build the raiders stadium. The clock is ticking. Plans are underway in the Los Angeles Area to bring at least two teams to the second largest tv market. The raiders could share a home with san diego chargers. Raiders have one season left on the o dot co. Fans who came friday say the absurdity of the teams future is hanging over the entire upcoming season. To me this team belongs where it is at. We have been to l. A. For 14 years. We dont belong anywhere else. This is our home. Unlike san diego and st. Louis which are offering public funds to keep the respective teams in town oakland is not making such an offer. The city is offering to lease public land to a developer and also to support Infrastructure Improvement such as roadways but not money to actually build a new stadium. Thats because theyre still paying off the last debt they had to rebuild the stadium to the raiders to the tune of 20 million a year. When you are spending that kind of money when you need more services the idea of putting more money in is tough for the politicians because they know voters arent going to go for it. It is tough for the voters. We were talking about this a couple weeks ago. I had made the comment that people find it difficult for taxpayers to be funding a multi billion dollar industry such as nfl. I got a lot of email comments about people agreeing with that mindset. Thats not what taxpayers money is for. In the meantime of course the down side is we could lose the raiders. Moving on. San francisco sheriff jones us next to talk about his future when we come back. ,,,,,,, the San Francisco sheriff Ross Mirkarimi has one praise for rehab and realignment programs at the jail but they are overshadowed by deputies different allegations. The sheriff himself has had his drivers license suspended but everything is back. But he still faces a tough reelection. He joins us this morning. Okay ross ive got to ask, you do these programs with jail but they get overshadowed by other things. What were you thinking when you got the fender bender and didnt report it to the city . I reported to my drivers Insurance Company because i thought that would handle it very quickly, very swiftly. I learned when the press informed me my license had been suspended on a limited basis. As soon as i heard it, we corrected it immediately. We are looking at public officials. There is an old saying if politics. A Million Dollars for a big program will bore the voters but something small can grab their attention. You seem to have a knack with that. Even if my socks are mismatched i think you will find a story about it. Its true, a fender bender like that did get everybodys attention. I think it was a healthy distraction away from the real corruption in the town especially after weeks of news about ed lee and potential allegations of corruption. You have said that do you feel these hits on you for the fender bender and stuff are fair game . I do. You are coming in fair game but get the story right. There is i think the sensationalism and the amount of press real estate attributed to this is disproportioned compared to anybody else. When you look at people in the Administration Whether its the police chief, fire chief, or many of his commissioners you never see this level of attention. I think we do. But yours seems to repeat itself. Thats part of it. We had the fight club as well. What is the latest on the investigation of that . Has there been any proof that it happened . As you know, i called in the fbi and San Francisco district attorney. They have a joint investigation. They havent released any updates at all. One deputy that was implicated in the fight club has been terminated and others are still under investigation. The very union, deputy sheriffs union, characterized the incident as horse play. I disagree. I think we take these matters extremely seriously. I have to defer to the fbi and da. Hopefully they will have updates soon. Lets take another issue that grabbed national headlines. Sanctuary policy in San Francisco. You are under a lot of criticism because you had orders not to communicate with the immigration authorities. My question is do you have plans to change that . I have actually been vindicated especially as of the last week in a case in santa maria, southern california. There were other sheriffs and law enforcers encountering. This shows how schizophrenic local laws are. Its unconstitutional what ice has been asking. Weve got to rectify. So you do not plan to make changes. Not unless we get legal clarity and i have read in a three page letter to the mayor. He has not responded. I look to the board of supervisors that the city gets honest. Its not cool i think and not politics to say theyre for sanctuary city and on the other hand they want a wink and a nod to practice something else. This is about 4th amendment constitutional consistency. I dont see San Francisco trying to stay true. Do you think the mayor is being hypocritical . I do. How so . He profess Like Police Officers association has professed of the law 20 years ago but theyre forgetting about the law in 2013 called due process that stipulates prescription of how we should interface with ice. Thats what we are trying to carry out. What you are saying is you are carrying out the law as it is. If somebody wants to change the law, thats it but you are not going to change it . I will. But i want that to be the board of supervisors. No more Law Enforcement by a wink and a nod and profess to be something else. I think thats what this administration is doing. I think other cities are going through the same motions. 50 out of 58 counties in california have adopted law similar to San Francisco. When you take positions like this, you are out on a limb. Very true. It makes our department a progressive leader nationally. Thats why it is important to retain an independent sheriff in San Francisco. So you are on a limb trying to be independent and you have these incidents, Ross Mirkarimi are you your own worst enemy . No, i dont believe i am my own worst enemy. But i will certainly address and overcome i think any mistakes that i have made. I think an error becomes a mistake unless you refuse to correct it. I am going to be assertive, aggressive, and creative in making sure thats the case. Thanks for joining us. Back to the desk now. Lets look at our forecast for this sunday. Here is a live shot of dublin where the heat is really starting to crank up. Its a hazy start to the day. You can see some areas of smoke from all those wildfires in northern california. Here is what you can speck heading out the door. Areas of smoke and haze, the heat advisory will be sticking around until 9 00 tonight. Of course stay out of the sun if you can and drink a lot of fluids. We are talking water. Lets fly around the bay and look at temperatures. Even the south bay we will see triple digits today, san jose is 97, same for Mountain View and 99 in palo alto. Our warmest temperatures is livermore at 105, walnut creek 104. In the central bay, its going to stay hot with alameda, 87, San Francisco 86 and the north bay 100 degrees in santa rosa, 99 in sonoma today. The next sevenday forecast we are going to see temperatures about three degrees warmer than they were yesterday. This will be the peak of our hot days here that we have had. We are still warm tomorrow but it is going to decrease in the middle of the work week. By the end of the week, most seasonal temperatures, looking seasonal temperatures, looking good for ,,,,,,,, a hamelted cheddarger, with crispy hash browns and an egg your way. Now thats a burg. explosion groans you want that to go again sweetie . The thing burger. Welcome to dennys. Fantastic 4, only in theaters. Call him a dark horse, Bernie Sanders came to the bay area and got a big endorsement. National nurses united say sanders is their choice. He is pitching himself to voters as a democratic socialist. You bailed out wall street, ceos in the major Financial Institutions are doing better financially today than they have ever done. Boo it makes no sense to me that a kid with marijuana can get a criminal record but people who destroy the economy get away scott free. I like his new york accent. National nurses united has 185,000 members nationwide. Given that, we asked our political insiders about how bernie is winning over the media. Lets take a listen. What we saw in oakland this week with the nurses endorsement. It was so exciting. There he was in the middle of all the nurses. The guy just gets in there and talks to people, does selfies. So authentic. It is unlike most of the candidates who look so packaged including hillary. He doesnt have anything to protect. Thats the difference from when you think you can win to when you are just having a great time doing this and this is all new for you, you are so fresh and exciting when you see that many people, its genuine. Everything he is doing is exactly that. The minute he starts to discuss his policies, people will become down, down, down. There is a question there. There has always been room for activist core of the Democratic Party on the left whether it is mcgovern or Bernie Sanders or whoever can shoot in with annie tie wall street message thats clear, concise, very pointed. Antiwar. Dont forget that. The Democratic Party has been for a long time plagued with a collection of people who are only antiwar. They are persons who would advocate no matter what the conditions were in the world. Theyre doing that now. He gets the strength of being able to stand on that while Hillary Clinton has difficulty answering a question. When he is getting 28,000 people showing um, thats why nurses said they gave the endorsement. They sat with Hillary Clinton and she was evasive about key bed rock issues. He isnt afraid. He is really important in the early going. He is the only thing the Democratic Party has to offset donald trump. He is offsetting donald trump for attractiveness. When the real deal comes down and in the playoffs it will be hillary or somebody like hillary verses somebody like jed. In the meantime, what is it about america whether its the tea party or this activist core on the democratic that wants either a trump or a Bernie Sanders . Whats the appeal . Year of the angry voter, i think. Theyre just angry with these guys in washington. Theyre angry with the pack. Theyre angry with the message ever in every election cycle, there is always one issue that drives people to do things. Any candidate who focuses on that one issue since there is no other place to showcase that issue, that candidate gets that crowd. Bernies got a lot of energy. He gives a good speech but at the end of the day he doesnt have the endorsements hillary does, not from the party, from the establishment folks. Yes. But there are concerns about, one, whether she is holding up in polls and, two, whether Bernie Sanders can crystallize and make her uncomfortable by asking questions about wall street connections. Coming up, we will be talking about somebody else that might be jumping in the race, joe biden. A couple of other dark horses. Not so dark. Theyre pretty much well known. Thats coming up. Also a Bay Area Police officer paid to use social media. Find out why, coming up. One bay area city has the hottest rental market in the country. No, it is not San Francisco. We will show you what you co go get help, boy. Go get help. Go get help right now if youre a cat, you ignore people. Its what you do. If you want to save fifteen percent or more on car insurance, you switch to geico. Its what you do. Go on kitty, kitty. It took Serena Williams years to master the two handed backhand. But only one shot to master the chase mobile app. Technology designed for you. So you can easily master the way you bank. Welcome back to kpix 5. The time is 8 02. I am phil matier. Ii am anne makovec. I am mark kelly. We have a lot to get to. We are going to be talking about transportation in the bay area. A special session of state legislature is convening tomorrow. The state needs billions, need to decide how to get it and where it should be spent. We will sitting down with state senator mark leno asking tough questions, why high speed rail . Every time there is an officer involved shooting in the area like we saw last week in oakland, accusations start flying. A new bill signed by the governor bans grand jury proceedings in the cases. Very interesting. We have done the roll call on the crowded field of republican nominees for president. But the democrats, they seem kind of boring. Or in trouble possibly. We will be talking with political insiders about who might be getting into the race. I wont call him a dark horse. There is lots coming up. Lets check your Weather Forecast today. We are starting with a live look at the bay bridge. There is some haze out there but no fog. Our heat wave continues. It is climaxing today, already up to 71 in inland locations like livermore, 61 santa rosa, oakland 64. Thats definitely above seasonal averages. Areas of smoke and haze today like we saw yesterday with the smoke coming from the fires burning in lake county. A heat advisory is in effect until 9 00 with cooler weather on the way. We will have a look at your extended forecast. Topping news, at least two people are injured after a truck plowed into an Insurance Office building in vallejo early this morning. One of them is a pedestrian. Then later a person involved in the crash showed up at a hospital in martinez suffering from life threatening stab wounds. Vallejo police are trying to piece together the details. We are going to bring you more information as soon as we get it. A pedestrian is dead after an Early Morning crash in antioch. Chp reports the collision happened just before 1 00 am on the east bound highway four off ramp at lone tree way. The victim has not yet been identified. Oh the hazy, lazy days of summer. You probably noticed the smoke in the air around the bay area. It will be back again today. The cause is the fires burning to the north of us plus a shift in wind direction. A lack of a sea breeze is causing smoke to funnel into the bay area and just settle over us. An armed man is on the loose and another is dead after being shot by police in sunnyvale. The shooting happened around 5 00 last night while Police Responded to a report of suspicious activity at a motel 6. An officer shot and killed one of the armed men as the two ran away from police. Investigators say it is not clear yet whether the men fired at the officers. This morning crews are still working to repair is pipe that burst in vallejo. This was bad news for residents who spent the sweltering day without water or water pressure. The 20inch water main burst on friday night. Unfortunately the niners lost the first preseason game to the Houston Texans last night. The final score was 2310. Miners host Dallas Cowboys next week in santa clara. Thats a look at your top stories. Back to you. A hearing plapped in sacramento to discuss the risks and benefits of emergency drones being used. Police are pushing california lawmakers to let them use drones to fight crime. They say it would be an efficient way to pursuit suspects and search for lost hikers but privacy advocates are concerned that drones could invade personal space. California lawmakers will consider both side when they meet tuesday. There are a lot of sides to the debate. We have seen them interfere with Emergency Operations several times. Cal fire planes have had to be grounded. This is the issue about whether Law Enforcement should be able to use drones. It is unregulated now as far as who will be able to use it. The thing is theyre so inexpensive that every tom, dick, harry has a drone. The question is whether tom, dick, harry can have them but if police and Fire Department cant, how is that going to work . Good question. San Francisco Police using social media in their investigation leak a lot of departments around the bay area. In San Francisco theyre employing an officer specifically to full time monitor the social media sites. Officers are learning ins and outs of networking sites. The idea is if you know the right trending topics or hashtags, tactics of catching bad guys via internet can be applied to all sites. The criminal is posting a lot of guns, their narcotics, cash. They kind of glorify on their social media. Recently an investigator was able to nab a wanted felon after finding a picture on instagram of him with a gun. Later police were able to return a stolen cello of the girl after blasting video of the suspects on facebook and youtube. There appears to be at least a at the present time touch contract deal between san jose and city council and the police department. Sjpd just graduated a new class of recruits yesterday. The new deal puts an end to the measure b era in san jose. The pension reform plan was passed during tougher economic times. The new agreement includes 8 raise and 5 bonus foreversers who stayed with san jose. Officers who left can claim the bonus if they come back. Facebook, twitter, texts, there has been buzz amongst officers that have left. Several have contacted us about coming back. There are hundreds because of the wage and pension cuts. The force is severely under staffed at 9 hold up officers. It will take a while for them to ramp back up to full force. When you look at the numbers of offices on the streets, theyre overwhelmed. Suspects are able to reoffend before they catch people. Its not just san jose. Toes oakland and other jurisdictions as they struggle with that. With the economy picking up, there are other jobs out there. Changes in store for one of the most famous streets in the world lombard street falsely known as the crookedest street in the world. Its the attraction that neighbors love to hate. There is a proposal to change the area for several blocks, removing parking places, adding sidewalk extensions and new bus stops. Thats going on all around the city, part of the Safety Program as well. It will be interesting to see how neighbors react when Parking Spaces are gone as well. Next time a Police Officer shoots a suspect criminal grand juries will no longer be allowed to hear the case. It didnt happen often but it was another tool to decide whether an officer will face charges. The ban is drawing praise and criticism. Some say they use the process to further the investigation. It allows you to bring in civilian witnesses who would be otherwise fearful of testifying in public. They can now come forward, testify in secret, and we would have information that we otherwise would not get. Naacp worked with the bills authors and they say grand juries are often biased against black people because people chosen for grand juries 19 members are often white with minorities poorly represented. This was a political reaction to what happened in new york and ferguson, not necessarily what is happening in california. Especially in the bay area the investigations are done by district attorneys and as far as transparency goes i havent seen much transparency in that process either. True. Oakland may be the hottest rental Housing Market in the nation. The average cost of rent has jumped 20 in the past year. Some of the hottest locations are lake merit and adams point areas where one bedroom apartments are going for up to 2500 a month. Oaklanders are staying put in rent controlled apartments because leaving can mean paying double, triple, quadruple the rent. The biggest are millennials whose tech salaries are big but not big enough to live in San Francisco or silicon valley. Some of them just like oakland. They enjoy the culture and commodity that they say is lacking in San Francisco. Up next, heads up for drivers. Senator mark leno is joining us to talk about how we are possibly going to be paying for road improvem,,,,,,,,,, state lawmakers take up the question for how to pay for tens of billions of road repair and mass transit in the state. One idea is a higher gas tax or higher fees for registration for cars and trucks. Any plan is going to likely need 2 3 vote of the legislature which is a difficult thing to do on a good day. Joining us is senator mark leno. Its no secret for every dollar we dont spend on a pot hole we spend 14 or 15 fixing your car because you hit that. Thats right. Its a good investment. We havent been making our investment in roads and highways. How do we plan to do it this time . You are right. We have about 59 billion in deferred maintenance on highways, roads, bridges. Yes, we dont spend a little money on a gas tax means we will have holes in our roads. We pay more in congress. It would be nice if u. S. Congress would pass the transportation bills because it means big bucks go to states so we can use federal dollars to repair the needs before us. We will have to do something on our own because we are not waiting for washington and we cant. There is going to be a special session in the next four weeks. What are we going to be doing . What is on the table . A coalition of local governments, business, labor came together to put together a proposal. Thats sort of a starting point for us. Are we talking about raising gas tax . Thats a possibility. It hasnt been done in 20 years. How much . Anything and everything is on the table. I am not here to tell you what its going to be. Vehicle and license fees, registration fees . Registration fees are on the table. Part of the proposal that the business labor local Government Coalition put together. California has started something called cap and trade where if suppliers have to kick into a clean air fund. All Green House Gas emitters. One is gasoline which puts . 10 extra a gallon that we have to pay. Why not use that money . For road repair . Thats your question. Or shift to mass transit and use mass transit money for road repair. Lets get to it. Why not use the most thane . We can only use the money which is a large pot of money to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions. You cant use it to fill pot holes and repair our bridges unfortunately. It is a nice size pot but we cant use it. Can with take it and use it for bart, ac transit. You bet. Then use the stuff for them going into fixing the roads. You are talking about different pots of money with Strings Attached to them. It is not as easy shifting around as you are suggesting. Last year we were successful and for the first time we created a new ongoing source of funds for local transit. Yes, all the different local transit agencies mentioned are going to be beneficiaries. About 20 of cap and trade money is going forward. Thats a huge amount that we never had before. Here are two things votessers get confused with. We hear about money for roads and it winds up in mass transit because we say we need more in mass transit. I dont know what you are talking about there. The money deferred for various road projects. If you put in a road, you put in a bike lane. Packaged deals together. Second, this bill that you have it has the governors blessing and passed senate that mandates we reduce gas consumption by 50 in the next 15 years. If we raise taxes on gasoline and at the same time we are cutting use of gasoline, we are not going to have money from the gasoline to fix the roads. Weve got to be looking at varieties of new ways. Part of reducing dependence on petroleum, keep in mind 84 of california ans support this. It makes sense because 50 of emissions comes from the transportation sector. If we are going to meet our goal and statutory requirements to reduce emissions we have to tend to fuels. Biofuel, mixed fuel, alternate fuels along with advancing electric cars which have no emissions. Where does the money come from . If we are not selling gasoline and using gas tax, where does the money come from . This is one difference of opinion we have with the governor for example. Where are electric cars going to be taxed . Theyre getting off free. You think we should have an electric car tax . There should be some way. The governor thinks it is too young of an industry. He doesnt want to put a burden on it. That is a delicate balance because we want to encourage people to use electric cars but theyre using the roads and should be paying like those of us who arent using electric cars. Why is this something that i dont think will happen . We have to do something. Otherwise we will be as guilty as congress who are just locked and cant do anything. Our bridges are vulnerable, roads are in great need. Weve got to do something. I will vote for the tax. Lets see whats going on with the weather. It is going to be a hot one today. Here is the san mateo bridge. You see how hazy it is over the bay with areas of smoke that we are seeing from the wildfires. Here is what you can expect. Areas of smoke and haze. We have a heat advisory that will stay in effect until 9 00 tonight. Stay out of the sun if you can and drink a lot of water. Here are our high temperatures. To the south bay where we are going to sea triple digits even down there, coopertino, 100, 98 santa clara, 97 in san jose. Over to the east bay, one of our highest temperatures is livermore with 105. San ramon is 102, 102 in concord and pittsburgh. Berkeley is north bay is 100 degrees. 99 in san raphael. The sevenday forecast will be the peak of the heat. Still warm tomorrow before the temperatures decrease in the middle of the work week and then we end the work week then we end the work week thursday and friday with ,,,, when broker chris hill stays at laquinta he fires up the free wifi, with a network thats now up to 5 times faster than before so he can rapidly prepare his presentation. And when he perfects his pitch, do you know what chris can do . And that is my recommendation. Lets see if hes ready. He can swim with the sharks hes ready. La quinta inns suites take care of you, so you can take care of business. Book your next stay at lq. Com la quinta marylands governor and president ial candidate Martin Omalley will be in the bay area next weak hosting start up pitch contest wednesday. Thursday he is hosting a panel on how entrepreneurs can use technology to help the community. He is not the only democrat trying to make waves within the party. We asked political insiders about other candidates possibly out there like joe biden. I think everyday that Hillary Clintons campaign loses one more point. It encourages and increases what is already a very healthy appetite that joe biden has. After all he has been out there a couple times trying to do this thing. In view of the fact that he is only maybe two cycles older than hillary, he still thinks he can do it and i think he will. Lets get real here. Joe biden is 72 years old. He doesnt have 68 million like Hillary Clinton. He is not a woman. Shes got a big head start. At this point shes still the candidate for the democrats. Keep in mind, hillary had a similar kind of position against barack obama eight years ago. She was occupying the same space by february. She was crying in New Hampshire. Speaking of New Hampshire, if Bernie Sanders goes in on the Progressive Side and gives her a run for her money or even comes out ahead in New Hampshire, what would that mean . Democrats maybe mean plan b. Would biden be plan b. Maybe al gore. Nobody on the democratic side of the isle in the ultimate process thinks New Hampshire is worth anything, period. Theres no reason why we should be placing as much emphasis on New Hampshire. I think hillary is firmly of that opinion this time around. We are not going to win or lose the National Election based upon what those crazy people do. But you think that biden is going to get in. Yes. Anybody else . I think al gore all of a sudden. My house mate, we live in the same building, i am telling you he is dressing up everyday with no longer the jeans. Hes got on the tie and shirt. His hair is combed. He doesnt look as overweight as he was a few years ago. He has the 60 to 70 million you are talking about. He has his own money and believe me he would be the darling of the tech world if he got in. Phil, i dont think you agree with that. Al gore . It sure could get interesting. I love the mayors analysis. He does live in San Francisco. Al gore, if you are watching, lets take one last look at our forecast. This is the peak of the hot days we have seen. This will be one of the worst ones. It will be all the way to 105 in livermore, 100 in santa rosa. Its going to be a beach day with a cool down next week. Thanks for joining us today. Face the face is coming ,,,, dickerson today on face the nation. Theres no vacation from politics. And breaking news this morning as plane disappears in indonesia. Its summertime at the iowa state fair, which means candidates talking politics and food on a stick. Without this year there was a new ride. Donald trump took a group of future voters in his helicopter and continues to take the Republican Party on its own wild ride. Thats one approach. Well talk to Ohio Governor john kasich who is on a different route. Taking the high road even Hillary Clinton. Plus well hear from South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham and democratican
