As you may know, we have a regular segment on this show called ya burnt. Well, what you may not know is we were scheduled to do ya burnt on tuesday, may 2nd and unfortunately the night before, the Writers Guild of america went on strike and our show stopped production. And as a result, the ya burnt that we were supposed to do that day five months ago never aired. [ light laughter ] well, today, its time for a new ya burnt. And, if youve seen the segment, you know it typically contains numerous topical jokes and references so youre probably thinking, let me guess. You scrapped the whole script you prepared back in the spring. [ laughter ] you wrote a whole new ya burnt. but ya burnt writer ben warheit insisted to me that the topics covered in the ya burnt he wrote five month ago [ light laughter ] were, to use a comedy term, evergreen. [ light laughter ] do you stand by that, ben . Stand by what [ laughter ] seth by your argument that we didnt need to rewrite this ya burnt to make it more topical . Yeah, totally this is good to go fresh as the day we wrote it [ laughter ] seth youre sure what . [ laughter ] seth lets just give it a go without further ado, we present the lost ya burnt, previously scheduled to air on may 2nd, 2023 [ cheers and applause [ clearing throat i was staring out my window at a cold spring thunder storm this morning [ light laughter ] just thinking about that old expression about april showers bringing may flowers, as one is wont to do this time of year [ laughter ] when a song came on about migrating tree frogs on my lofi beats to relax and host to playlist and [ sniffing ] wait, im sorry, but i think i smell smoke. So it can only mean one thing. Its time for ya burnt. [ cheers and applause seth welcome to burn zone. We got a lot of topics to sizzle through and not a lot of time. Certainly not five months. Over here is the burner. Lets turn on the gas and load her up whoo smooth criminal. [ laughter ] first up, the kings coronation. Oh, boy. [ light laughter ] the kings coronation. [ light laughter ] besides, i think you had enough grand affairs, if you know what i mean side burn camilla. Announcer side burn. Seth side burn charles also, it takes two people to have an affair it would be sexist to just blame the woman. Ooh almost don lemoned myself. Announcer lemon burn [ audience ohs ] seth as you may or may not remember, don lemon was fired from cnn on april 24th, 2023 [ laughter ] but seriously charles, tell me one reason why i should give a [ bleep ] about all this im all ears, just like you. [ laughter ] the kings coronation, like the flaming wreckage of the british empire, ya burnt people who make fun of the jets. Hey people who think the jets are cursed, the jokes on you because now they have aaron rodgers. Oh [ bleep ] me. [ laughter and applause ben what . Seth are you sure this isnt badly outdated and in need of a rewrite . No, its good are you just going to keep asking me questions this whole time, because if youre going to do that im going to stop texting my friends [ laughter ] seth you should never text your friends during the show what is that like a new rule . [ laughter ] seth lets just get through this at this point, the biggest concern for the jets is finding a parade route through midtown. [ laughter ] trust me, rodgers first drive down the field is gonna set the tone for his whole season. All right that part still tracks [ laughter ] that part still tracks hey, people who make fun of the jets, time for you to retreat into silence, because ya burnt rats oh, thank god, rat jokes never get old. God bless new york city. The rat population in new york city is officially out of control. Its so bad mayor adams hired a rat czar to clean up the mess. Hey, you can hire a rat czar, but why are you doing a press conference about it . Keep that one on the down low. When you get your house sprayed for bed buds you tell the guy to park the van way down the street the rat situation is so bad, i was on the subway, and i saw one rat give up its seat for another rat who was pregnant [ laughter ] theres even a popular rat meme called pizza man [ laughter ] so thats you, ben is that me . [ laughter ] seth did you forget taking that photo its been a while [ laughter ] seth hey, rats, just like the can of flaming garbage i saw under the 59th street bridge yesterday, ya burnt. Summer blockbusters. Summer is so close you can taste it [ laughter ] ben. In my defense, it was a seasonably unseasonably warm week seth summer is so close you can taste it, and that means a couple of big budget hollywood movies are about to take over americas remaining movie theaters, one of which is Christopher Nolans film oppenheimer. Thats right, the guy who made batman even cooler is back with a biopic about some nerd scientist. The only bomb i see here will be you at the box office. [ light laughter ] you think people are going to go see a historical world war ii drama when they could be seeing the flash . [ laughter ] looks like the scarlet speedster will be racing at the top of the box office and thats a seth guarantee. [ laughter ] another movie getting a big push is barbie. A film for adults about a childrens toy lets get one thing straight americas gotten more than its fill of ryan goslings abs id go so far as to say hes so fit that its off putting. [ light laughter ] whichever studio executive greenlit this flop, you better reverse mortgage the dream house and sell the corvette, because after this movie chokes youll be rollerblading to work [ light laughter ] also, both these movies are coming out on the same day guys, theres plenty of weekends in july. You dont need to steal ticket sales from each other, unless they can get some kind of cultural phenomenon going where people make it a point to see both movies backtoback [ applause ] but what would they even call that oppenarbie [ laughter ] thatll never work ben, youre telling me you wrote this in april . Im prescient [ light laughter ] seth cause now im starting to think you rewrote this to make me look bad no, no. Benny no like extra worky. [ laughter ] seth well, i [ laughter ] i do know that to be true. Very well. Summer blockbusters, i am become death, destroyer of worlds but you . Ya burnt lunch places that serve bowls. Oh, well, those still exist. Thats good. Hey, love rice, but wish it cost 18 . [ laughter ] try bowls. Seriously, i have actual bowls in my house that cost less announcer i feel like thats not true seth yeah, fine, my bowls are fancy. What can i say im making artsan bowl money and is this really what lunch has become 20 minutes of eating at your desk and then an hour of spraying canned air to get the quinoa out of my keyboard . Also, work is hard you should go out to lunch weve gone from martinis and steak tartare with mad men to spooning slop into our faces like cavemen you think don draper ever said to roger sterling, hey, im going to skip lunch at the carlisle i got a bowl waiting at my desk. [ laughter ] also, whats up with those side bowls . You want me to pay top dollar for a pile of breakfast mush ill admit, whenever i see a place serving of side bowls, i let out a sigh, too. Announcer boo [ laughter ] seth and how about poke bowls . You want me to pay 25 bucks for some sushi that fell apart [ laughter ] that is not pokay announcer okay, you won me back with that seth lunch places that serve bowls, like the charred broccoli i paid two dollars extra for, ya burnt. Logan roy [ laughter ] ben, when did the strike start in terms of the final season of succession um uh, a couple weeks after connors wedding [ laughter ] seth so im not going to have to do some long joke here that people might not even remember the context of, am i . [ laughter ] there is one way to find out . [ laughter ] seth logan roy, you mean terrible man, youre a stain on this whole country id say you represent the worst of humanity but that would mean admitting youre a human youre a friendless, petty, decrepit, pantspissing son of a bitch. You make the Koch Brothers look like two malalas if you were here right now, i would tell you to your face that [ phone ring tone sorry. Yep . What is it hes what . Hes dead . [ light laughter ] shut the [ bleep ] up, no, hes not. [ laughter ] this is a joke, right . Well, is he well, is he or isnt he well, how can you not know whos doing chest compressions do they have training . [ laughter ] well, get a doctor on the plane. Let me let me talk to the pilot, because i want to [ laughter ] i want to talk to the pilot. Okay, jeez yeah, yeah, okay, put the phone by his ear so i can talk to him. Hey, logan, can you even hear me okay, hey. [ light laughter ] hey, logan, i just want to say, because im not sure i ever got a chance to say this in person but, um i know we had our ups and downs, but deep down i just want you to know ya burnt [ cheers and applause seth up next, may flowers. Listen up you colorful bastards. [ buzzer ] oh that buzzer means were out of time this has been ya burnt [ cheers and applause thats ben right over there. Well be right back with josh gad [ cheers and applause [swords clanging] [yipping] [rumbling] [rumbling] [explosions] [whooshing] [crashing] nautilus by Anna Meredith [swords clanging] [yipping] [music builds and fades] [distant crashing nears] [swords clanging] [music resumes] trick or treat kit kat. Reeses. Ooo, great costume. Looks like you deserve both. See ya boys. man that looks really high. woman it is high. Whenever you are ready. man are there any snakes . woman nope. man are you sure . Currently shes on broadway as a percussionist for david byrnes amazing new show, here lies love. Jacquelene acevedo is here thank you so much for being with us, jacquelene [ cheers and applause also, you guys, fred armisen is back with us give it up for fred [ cheers and applause you lived through a fivemonth Writers Strike and everybody when its over says, what did you do with your time off . And its sometimes embarrassing that you dont have anything to show for it. Fred is not like that. Every time you have a second off, you use it do something impressive we talked yesterday about some of the things you are doing. And then, i didnt realize this. That you opened a new hair salon. Fred i did [ light laughter ] seth i didnt even know that was an interest of yours fred im fascinated by it. [ light laughter ] fascinated seth and what i guess i mean, i hope this isnt a sort of a naive question to ask but what makes yours different than other hair salons fred its like a museum piece. [ light laughter ] so, its hairstyles from the 1000s. You know like seth and thats what they call it . They call them the 1000s fred yes seth okay. Fred so if youre going to an event youre celebrating the 1000s seth okay. Fred its a way you could be accurate seth okay. Oh, i see, so like if you went to a Flapper Party and you wanted to have a hairstyle like the 1920s. Fred yes seth you would not go to your hair salon . Fred no, no. So, for that one, youve got to go to one of those that do like 1920s haircuts seth yeah. Fred you know like the flapper ones seth gotcha. Fred that is not what im running here seth gotcha. But you do cover a whole 100 years. Like if someone was like im going to a party that covers 1105. What would you say fred there arent a lot of those parties. [ light laughter ] i did the research to know that like, thats not happening that much seth sorry, but there are a lot of parties that cover the thousands . Fred oh, too many. Were opening branches all over the place. Jfk, laguardia [ light laughter ] penn station all over the place seth you know, thats interesting you mention two of the airports do people do you find and again, maybe you dont know. Maybe its not a place where you do a lot of chitchat do you feel like people are on there way out of town to go to a 1000s party, and stop at a hair salon right before they go or do you think theyre flying in for fred in my estimation . I think these are airport parties that are happening [ light laughter ] thats what im seeing seth gotcha. So, if you were having a party to celebrate the 1000s, you think a good place to hold it would be an airport . Fred i dont have these parties. This is other people im just this is a business seth so, you dont judge fred no, this is not me. Seth you never judge fred never i dont like it. [ light laughter ] seth what do you feel about people who judge fred im a litte im not into it. [ light laughter ] when they judge. Im judgmental of them seth well, i can tell how painful it was for you to judge even them. [ light laughter ] fred yes seth what is the name of the place . Fred we dont have a name. [ light laughter ] in the 1000s they didnt have names for things seth in the 1000s they didnt have names for things fred of course not it was the early days. So few people. [ light laughter ] seth even the people didnt have names fred no. There were so few of them, it was just like. You just knew each other seth gotcha. [ light laughter ] so, lets say you and i are neighbors in the 1000s, and you see me, what do you say . Fred you go [ light laughter ] seth got it. [ cheers and applause our first guest tonight is a grammy awardwinning actor, currently starring in gutenberg the musical which is on broadway now at the James Earl Jones theater please welcome to the show for the very first time, josh gad, everybody [ cheers and applause seth welcome to the show fred, i so want to go to a 1000s party now. [ light laughter ] i really i have to go to an airport this week and go seth im so happy youre here and i cant believe youve never been here. Im so happy and no, but thats your fault. Seth yeah. [ light laughter ] i cant invite myself on your show ive tried seth yeah. But it doesnt work that way from what i understand seth well, im very glad weve rectified the situation and i hope this is a situation where you come back and back i will be here. Seth by the way, im so grateful for the fact that you are here on a night where you are doing a show on broadway im going to leave here and im going to dance for another audience seth yeah. [ cheers and applause but, for now, i speak to you. Seth does this serve in any way, shape, or form as a warmup for you . This is my warmup. Seth okay. Do you guys want to see what i do for a warmup seth yes [ cheers and applause so, i start off by doing stretches like this. [ laughter ] seth okay, i gotcha. Which by the way, im pretty limber for a guy my size [ light laughter ] so, i do this. Seth okay. And then i do lip trills. Do you guys know what lip trills are . [ trilling sounds lip trills none of you should do that seth yeah. [ light laughter ] and then i sing 80s pop ballads. Seth you do . I do. Seth and have you found historically through a life on broadway that thats helpful for you . I do theres so much falsetto in 80s songs for some reason seth yeah. [ light laughter ] so i go high. You know, i do take on me by ahha. Seth yeah. And i do some others. And andrew rannells, my costar, brilliant costar, by the way [ cheers and applause thank you. Hes hes not here. Seth hes not here so you dont need to cheer for him. [ light laughter ] but he does sondheim songs. [ light laughter ] so its this very complicated of just infusion of different sounds backstage when you come visit our dressing room. Seth and you have adjacent dressing rooms yeah, unfortunately for andrew that is accurate. We have [ laughter ] were separated by a bathroom. [ light laughter ] a lot of things happen in that bathroom before i go onstage [ light laughter ] but we have a bathroom and then our and our two dressing rooms seth are the walls thin enough that you dont hear each other or you do . No, theyre frighteningly thin [ light laughter ] seth yeah. Theyre frighteningly thin, uncomfortably thin walls seth everything about broadway dressing rooms is frightening. Compared to what your expectations was they are. If you love if you love getting sinus infections, its a great place to hang out. [ laughter ] seth yeah. Theres a lot of dust mites in there, which is great seth yeah. You know, when ive been lucky enough to go backstage to say hi to friends in shows, like, its so cramped its very cramped seth you feel bad visiting its like if youre youre making me feel bad for having to go there after this. [ light laughter ] seth yeah. Its like going to visit a friend in an elevator. Yeah, yes seth like, before they go up except you go nowhere it doesnt even go up and down [ light laughter ] and you just sit seth yeah. And you have to listen to people going to the bathroom [ laughter ] seth now it is crazy you and andrew were very young men before you when you met before. [ light laughter ] seth before. You know how time works, right im not breaking any news here but, uh im like, oh, thats so sweet. Oh he means ten years ago got it, yeah seth you met when you were very young, and now, obviously you have these very accomplished careers. And it does seem, certainly from the outside, that you genuinely like one another we love each other. It took me a decade to get back to broadway. Since book of mormon, ive been looking for something to get back with, and i was got sent this script by alex timbers, our brilliant director seth yes who also did here lies love. Seth yeah. Which is phenomenal everybody should go see that show its phenomenal. And [ scattered applause ] i love they applauded more for andrew who is not he historic m in tel in te aviv. All right, we have to this is a nbc news special report. Heres lester holt. And good day from tel aviv, where President Biden has just set down at an airport here and has made his way off the aircraft. Hes here to show us solidarity with israel, following the terror attacks of almost two weeks ago now. To show that support, hell be meeting with Prime Minister benjamin netanyahu, who is greeting him here at the steps of the aircraft right now, but they will have private meeting, thats the first order of business. To say that the ground has shifted beneath the president in the hours during his long flight from washington would be an understatement. Obviously, much attention on the explosion at a hospital in gaza. That has certainly overshadowed things here. Israel, hamas trading blame over that explosion which apparently has killed hundreds of people. There you see the president and Prime Minister working their way through the crowd. Lets go to nbcs peter alexander, our white house corresentor more on this trip and what they hope to accomplish. Peter . Reporter lester, there was a hug, an embrace, between President Biden and Prime Minister netanyahu as soon as biden exited air force one. Really symbolic, as it represents the relationship between the United States and israel right now. The two men, as you see now, that embrace that took place just a short time ago. The two men are going to meet in a one on one fashion, alongside their teams before gathering with the israeli Prime Ministers war cabinet. A rare opportunity for the president to see close up exactly what is happening by the scenes right now preparation for a likely invasion of some kind by the israelis. After that the president will be visiting with israeli first responders, those first down on the scenes where so many israelis were killed. The death toll now more than 1400. The president is expected to meet with some of the families of those still missing, unaccounted for, and those who have already lost their lives. Later, he will deliver remarks. This will be a quick trip for the president , but the volatility on the ground really reflects the volatility of this trip as well. The president , lester, as we have been watching was expected to go, had announced he would be going to jordan to meet with mahmoud abbas, with the egyptian president el sisi as wells a s the jordanian king, but even as the flight was to take off, it was mute aual decision, the summit would not achieve what it set out to. So the president certainly facing real headwinds, and those headwinds, lester, as you communicated, come as we saw this awful strike, where an israeli bomb or a misfired rocket by a separate terrorist group in the Palestinian Land of gaza struck this hospital killing more than 500. There have been competing statements from both sides. The palestinians insist this was an israeli strike that targeted a hospital, killing more than 500. The israelis dispute that right now. The president to this point has largely steered clear of weighing in, saying that he was outraged and deeply saddened. He did say overnight that the u. S. Stands unequivocally for the protection of civilian life during the conflict, and we mourn the patients, medical staff and other innocents killed and wounded in this tragedy. Thats one more piece of evidence of how there are enormous, both political and security risks, lester, for the president. We expect it will be a trip that lasts only about a matter of hours. You mentioned a security risk. We should note this is a very active war zone, a Beautiful Day in tel aviv, but were mindful several times a day the sirens sound here. Were shuttled off to shelters and generally, we hear the impact of successful intercepts by the iron dome. Josh, could this visit change the direction of the war . Reporter it certainly could, lester. This trip is shaping up to be not only one of the most extraordinary Foreign Policy tests of President Bidens presidency, but also a key inflection moment in this crisis, with protests now erupting all around the arab world. Overnight, we saw massive demonstrations from jordan to lebanon where the u. S. Embassy has said that family members of u. S. Diplomats there can now go back to the United States. That is how concerned the u. S. Is right now about the level of anger and frustration being directed from the arab streit toward israel in the aftermath of this explosion at that hospital in the gaza strip. Overnight, israels military continuing to try to push back on the perception and the accusation that it was behind that explosion through an airstrike. The Israeli Military saying it had conducted an extensive post explosion analysis and determined that not only had israels military not been involved in any strikes at that time, but that their radar data showed a barrage of rockets launched around the time of that explosion from a cemetery near the hospital. Israels military asserting that it had collected intelligence ha showed that in the aftermath of that explosion at the hospital, a hamas operative realized what had happened here, that it had been an Islamic Jihad rocket that hit the hospital and immediately went into cleanup mode trying to convince the world that this in fact had been israel. The Israeli Government saying they will continue to release more evidence to back up that version of events, as President Biden says that he has directed his National Security team to also continue collecting evidence that could get to the bottom of exactly what happened here. But hamas, Islamic Jihad, other palestinian groups are flott not buying israeli version of events saying it was an israeli rocket. So far arab nations seem to be siding with the palestinian version of events, lester. We heard from the jordanians and egyptians. They were to attend a summit now canceled. Both are accusing israel of being behind the strike, as are other regional allies, such as turkey. It will be an Urgent Mission by President Biden to get everybody to take a step back, deep breath and see if they can prevent the latest incident from derailing efforts, both to getcivilians out of the gaza strip and into the badlyneeded aid. That concludes this nbc special report. Well have much more streaming on nbc news now, online, and of course tonight on nightly news, well have a full wrap up of all of this. For now, im lester in over a decade, saying that the guy on dahmers show looks and sounds like you. [ laughter ] a couple kids on the street even said, hey, dahmer. [ laughter ] ill be honest, if i did even half of the stuff that Jeffrey Dahmer did, my dad would be so pissed off [ laughter ] seth please welcome back to the show, the one and only, joe pera [ cheers and applause seth welcome back, joe thank you very much hey, fred, can i come to your thousands hair salon [ laughter ] cause i could use about a thousand more hairs. [ laughter ] they combed it over real good backstage. Seth so joe, its so great to again, your ability to do, you know, banter [ laughter ] youre back in new york city youve been on tour over a year how is it to be back in new york its really nice to be back in new york and spend some quality time with my side pieces [ laughter ] its been tough, ive been mailing them 20 best buy gift cards from the road but that can only last for so long. [ laughter ] i dont want to brag, but ive been buying printer ink and Nintendo Switch games for women in three different states. [ laughter ] seth wow just a joke seth oh, its just a joke. [ laughter ] did you learn things about the world while you were touring i mean, you went so many interesting places yeah. It was really enlightening i mean, did you know in ireland, they dont have Bluetooth Technology [ laughter ] thats true. And then, australia, did you know that when a baby is born, they give them a little kick in the head [ laughter ] thats why theyre like that [ laughter ] seth i know when youre on the road, you do a lot of crowd work do you find out stuff about people from interacting with audiences . Yeah. Its probably my favorite part to do research and find out more by talking with the people in the crowd. Yeah, sometimes, its good in grand rapids, probably the drunkest city on tour [ light laughter ] some woman was yelling at me to check out a Frank Lloyd Wright house over and over again and wouldnt stop. So i was yelling back, i was saying, you guys used to make furniture, now you make craft beers your big product what happened . [ light laughter ] what happened to you guys . Seth so you were ready with that because you had done research about it . [ laughter ] yeah. They used to make more furniture than almost any other place in the country at a certain time. [ laughter ] seth i yeah yeah. [ laughter ] i dont want to make them feel bad or anything but she wouldnt stop yelling about the Frank Lloyd Wright house seth yeah, so at some point, youve got to give them the hard truths about the fall off in their furniture production [ light laughter ] we need great furniture like this stuff [ laughter ] seth youre so sweet you is it true that you actually did crowd work with someone who had passed out yeah. That happened in colorado. I do some sleep material, so it wasnt like a its not out of the ordinary for them to fall asleep for periods of time, but the guy was asleep the entire show [ laughter ] seth what do you think happens when you go to a comedy show and fall asleep right from the beginning . Um, i guess maybe i mean, his case, he was just drunk and didnt think about the altitude in colorado. Seth i see [ light laughter ] i did i personally, i fell asleep at connor omalleys show one time because i had just moved that day but i wanted to go out and support my friend seth yeah. He actually he broke character to say, hey, man, you can go home if you want to. [ laughter ] seth your special is on youtube, which is really exciting because anyone can see it, but also, youtube obviously provides people a chance to leave comments are you the kind of person who would read the Comment Section it gets so hairy and i try not to seth yeah. There was one comment that i did look at on instagram i put up the dahmer joke that you showed, and somebody said, thank you, sir, for not doing murder.
