Jim jordan leads the judiciary committee. That makes him particularly popular on the far right, founding chairman of the House Freedom caucus. But probably wont be the only candidates. You might see some more moderate names get floated here to appeal to some of the Kevin Mccarthys more institutionalminded supporters. They think donald trump ought to be the next speaker of the house, technically the speaker doesnt have to be a member of the body. How unsettled this is within the republican conference. Wanting the job and doing the job of speaker are of course two very different things. Given the current split in the Republican Party and their razorthin majority in the house, regardless who gets this job, i bet Many Americans are wondering will the speaker be able to accomplish anything once appoint zmrd a huge problem, i heard from a number of republicans they have to change their own rule, has a freer hand to work than Kevin Mccarthy. Told me today if you dont change the rules that let one member to call for a vote to get rid of the speaker youre just changing the driver of the clown car. The reality has been this, for House Republicans, they control one out of three branchts, they want to do their oversight in investigations in a competent way. The Government Shutdown deadline is coming up here next month, its like 29, 40 days away, expectation a week from today you would have that internal vote by House Republicans to kind of figure out who the next person put forward the next speaker. If it drags past that, thats when you get in that risk territory as it relates to the possibility of a Government Shutdown, a whole can of worms that we havent started to unpack yet. You mentioned spending bills, money to help ukraine to fight off the invasion of russia, something thats critically important to some republicans especially over on the senate side, democrats and republicans want to see that. Thats been a contentious issue here for the House Republican conference and some of the back and forth over the Government Shutdown issue was. Thats another a real world issue that can have major implications. Theres that uncertainty, what it means for the markets. We have some time before that ripple effect, but the question is, can this Conference Get it together to be able to put somebody forward in a relatively short time frame. Hallie, to that end, this is highlighted the divisions within the Republican Party, how much could this impact the 2024 primary or even the general election .
