Thats a donor who saves not one, but two lives, and in this case theyre the lives of two baby girls. It all started when an anonymous organ donors heart helped save the life of a baby named mia who suffered heart failure. Doctors at New York Presbyterian Hospital realized that a part of her heart could make her a donor for a girl named brooklyn who needed a valve transplant. The babies mothers tell today how two sets of parents can now share joy with each other. Thats such incredible news and they were able to think of somebody else in that moment. One of the nurses said that brooklyn will always have a piece of mias heart. It makes it feel like we waited so long for a reason. Thats just beautiful. Perhaps the most amazing part of this, the successful domino transplant was also the first performed on infants anywhere in the world. Wow. Hats off to those doctors. Modern medicine, what they can do and the smiles of the babies. And the parents, my goodness. A lot of joy there. A lot of joyful parents, kids are going back to school. My kid started yesterday. Even the people who are taking 84 are seeing a backup trying to get around the 580 680 split. We can see thats a little slower and it is taking a while to get on 580. That may be slowing down the traffic coming into the bay area. The peninsula drive times are all green, meaning that everyone is flowing at speed. Ill have another update in just a few minutes. The problems with mass incarceration, enhancements are at the heart of mass incarceration and those who have studied understand that the use of enhancements has devastated black and brown communities. In this case were saying that it is very concerning if they will be paroled and coming out and hurting people again. This is video posted on citizen app that shows the aftermath as police investigated outside a mcdonalds. Now, it happened at market near 2nd street a little before 4 00 p. M. Yesterday. Police are only saying one man suffered lifethreatening injuries and that the attacker got away. Anyone with information should contact sfpd. San jose police are asking people in one neighborhood to check the video of their security cameras after the violent deaths of a young boy and his great grandmother. Someone stabbed them last friday in their apartment on parkmoor avenue near 280. In a News Conference yesterday police provided new information, investigators now say the attack happened in the Early Morning hours and the boy was just 6 years old. The names of the victims have not been released and police are not revealing if theyve been identified or perhaps if theyve already arrested a suspect. New this morning, a new bay area twist in the disturbing case of a new york city doctor accused of preying on women he drugged. The doctor identified as c. Allen cheng was first accused of drugging and sexually assaulting two women. Investigators say the gastroenterologist filmed the assaults. Now hes accused in at least five additional attacks, all of which were also filmed, some of which took place at queens hospital where he once worked. Prosecutors also believe more victims may be out there. These victims, we know the videos were taken not only one of them in the hospital as well, but also in las vegas, in San Francisco, in thailand. So its important that people reach out to us so that we can make the identifications. Dr. Cheng is being held without bond and has pleaded not guilty. The hospital tells our new york sister station it is fully cooperating with Law Enforcement and the doctor was fired last year shortly after the first allegations surfaced. Still no confirmation this morning from Contra Costa County Health Leaders in the deadly legionnaires outbreak being tied to a richmond spa. The zen day spa remains closed as the county awaits test results. Investigators believe the deaths of two people may be tied to a jacuzzi there which was operating without permit. She was never infected. As more bay area kids return to school, authorities are trying to remind everyone about the importance of school bus safety. The chp warns everyone, if youre driving near or behind a school bus, keep your distance because school buses can make many unanticipated stops, including at all railroad crossings, as required by law, or picking up and dropping off children in unmarked locations. They say always assume that children are onboard, and remember yellow flashing lights mean a bus is preparing to stop, while red lights require you to stop. Those lights are not a suggestion. When the lights are flashing with the extendible arm, they are required to stop. That is true for traffic that is traveling in the opposing direction as well, unless were talking about a divided highway or the lanes of travels, there are two or more lanes of travel in each direction. The national Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends parents accompany their kids to the bus stops on the first day of school, show them how to wait at least ten feet from the curb and remind them to never board until the bus comes to a complete stop and when the door opens and that the driver says its okay. I think its really important that we have all these reminders, because we havent seen buses on the road for a while. You see a lot of people, they dont stop. Keep your distance from that, right . Happening tonight, imagine the possibilities if luck is truly on your side. You can buy a fleet of buses. A lot of space in your front yard there. Thats what a lot of people are probably doing right now, imagining the possibilities, because the Third Largest Lottery Jackpot ever is on the line. Were talking 1. 55 billion at stake for tonights Mega Millions drawing. Thats about a half billion less than the record 2 billion jackpot a man won last year in southern california. Weve been crunching the numbers for days now and the lump sum option would come out to about 760 million before taxes. After taxes its a measly 575 million. Whatever would you do with that . Who is really counting, though . If you watch all six numbers. It shows how hard it is because it keeps rolling over. We all dream. I dont know if i set my sights a little lower, but i dont need the six numbers. I would be happy with some of the other alternate you know, a nice little gift. It gets so big at this point they almost should divide it and make more winners. Right. More drawings, less numbers, something. What else is climbing and going through its waves, right, those temperatures . Yeah, its dipping now. Were going to have cooler weather for the next couple of days. Well take a look at weather and traffic in a few minutes. New video coming into our newsroom of a house collapsing into a river. Check this out. This is in alaska, a major flooding on the Mendenhall River over the weekend. The raging water ate away at the river bank until this house had nothing to stand on and it collapsed into the water. No reports of anyone hurt. Officials say the flooding is caused by record glacier melting. New video shows the weekend chaos of an alabama boardwalk after people became enraged in a dispute over a docking berth. It happened saturday night in montgomery, alabama. Witnesses say this altercation just exploded when a pontoon boat blocked a reserved docking spot for a city river boat. You can see the fight escalated rather quickly with so many people involved. Right now police are saying several arrests have been made and they are still combing through surveillance video. They say there are at least four outstanding arrest warrants. Boy, take a breath, people. All eyes today on ohio and a vote that is at least indirectly about abortion. Scott mcgrew, the abortion issue has driven so many people to the polls. So many. Many of them, probably a majority of them, democrats who tend to vote less often and less reliably unless there is a big issue on the ballot. Now, todays vote in ohio is indirectly about abortion. Todays ohioans will vote on what they call issue 1, which would raise the percentage of votes needed to change the ohio constitution from 50 to 60 . Then, no matter how todays vote turns out, ohioans will go back to the polls in the fall to vote on whether abortion rights should be protected under the ohio constitution. Depending on todays vote, either 50 or 60 of ohioans would then have to vote yes to change the constitution. We had a similar vote in california, 67 yes, 33 no. President biden is in arizona, later today hell designate part of the area near the grand canyon as a national monument, which will limit mining in the area. Then hes off to new mexico for a campaign e swrent and then to utah. Before he left, the Houston Astros were able to steal a little of his time. Biden is a baseball fan. The astros beat the president s team, the phillies, to take the championship. Swept the mariners, the yankees in the American League playoffs. Then, although i love these guys, this next part is hard to say, then they beat the phillies in six games to win the world series. And mike pences Campaign Office tells us the former Vice President has qualified for the republican debates. A candidate needs 40,000 donors to qualify. Pence just hit that mark. He had already hit the other benchmark, polling. Ron desantis and nikki haley, chris christie, Vivek Ramaswamy have qualified. Also, donald trump has indicated hes unlikely to debate. Thank you so much. Happening today, youll definitely want to stay out of the kitchen for National Pickleball day. Of course the kitchen on your local pickleball court. As every pickleball player knows, you cant volley from inside the kitchen or the zone closest to the net there. We digress. To celebrate. San franciscos newest courts at the palace of fine arts will host a free event, including the chance to try out demonstration paddles. We have a pickleball champion of our own. You may recall when Ginger Conejero saab did a story on the opening there, right . That was at the pickleball tournament over at oracle park. We were training for the national championships. You were doing great. You got it. It was so much fun. And weve had this conversation, because youve shared how youve enjoyed playing before. Oh, yeah, i love it. I wondered how this is different, but when you get out there, its a little less intense than tennis but you can get into that competitive groove. You have a chance of getting a rally going easier. I went to the palace of fine arts and i was able to see other people playing and just listen to that sound. Yeah, the sound is one thing. What a venue to play pickleball. Thats really cool. Especially when its a gorgeous day. Were going to have more fog, more gusty winds, its going to turn to fogust in San Francisco. Were seeing a clear sky in san jose. In richmond, we will see the marine layer, the clouds linger a lot longer and those temperatures are going to stay cooler. So were in the upper 50s to start and well be only at 62 degrees at noon. So keep that jacket on today. In oakland, well reach 71 degrees, all of these temperatures cooler than what weve seen recently and whats normal for this time of year. In san jose, well see a high of 80 degrees, Mountain View reaching 77, and 86 in fairfield, coming off of those triple digits and back to some milder weather, of course, with some gusty winds with that delta breeze. Tomorrow were going to see more of the same, maybe a little cooler in some spots, and we keep that trend at least through thursday into friday, before it heats up again. But eventually the heat is going to be coming back for the weekend after the High Pressure thats given us the really hot temperatures moves away. It will start and nudge its way back into the bay area, causing our valleys to heat up. Lets head to livermore with a look at our tenday temperature trend. Nice and mild through friday with highs in the low 80s. If you have outdoor plans on saturday, just keep in mind its going to be about 10 degrees hotter, and youll need to take breaks and maybe include some Water Activities on sunday. That heat continues into next week as well. Overall, our temperatures will be nice and comfortable for the inland areas, heat again later on in the forecast, while San Francisco is going to stay very cool, maybe be misting and drizzling at some times. On the roads this morning, here is a live look outside in oakland. It is a busy start to the morning and it is starting to slow down coming through Contra Costa County from highway 4 to 680, from pittsburg to walnut week, about 31 minutes. Either way you take kirker pass, its going to be slowing down, on the benicia bridge it is looking good, but elsewhere things are nice and quiet. Lets hope it stays that way. And now to our climate in crisis, does hopping on an electric train sound great to you . Well, soon youll be able to do that on caltrain. Starting in the fall, the agency will roll out their new fleet of electric trains that will eliminate reliance on diesel. Theyre said to be quieter, faster and more sustainable for our commute and will help improve the air quality. For communities, especially along the tracks, well have better air to breathe. The big plus about these new trains really, theres a lot of pluses about these trains. But as far as scheduling, these trains are faster to accelerate and decelerate. With the Current Fleet theres one locomotive that pulls the rest of the cars. With these, theres a motor in each individual car so its a lot easier to get it up to speed quickly. So this will allow trains to get where theyre going a lot faster. In addition, were talking clean, were talking green, more comfortable, more modern, wifi enabled. Theres a lot of reasons these trains are going to be a big improvement over our Current Fleet and we cant wait to get people onboard to see for themselves. Crews are still doing the Electrical Work on this 50mile stretch from San Francisco to the south bay and they say you might want to notice those schedule changes over the next couple of months if you currently ride caltrain. And you can preview this ecofriendly transportation at some events coming up next month. Theyll be in San Francisco, theres another one in San Mateo County early next year, and well bring you those details as those events get closer. Now on to this amazing story of a socalled domino transplant. Thats a donor who saves not one, but two lives. In this case the lives of two baby girls. It all started when an anonymous organ donors heart helped save the life of a baby named mia who suffered heart failure. Doctors in new york city then realized that a still working hart of mias heart could make her a donor for a baby in brooklyn who needed a valve transplant. The babys mothers tell today how two sets of parents can share unfathomable joy with each other. Thats such incredible news and they were able to think of somebody else in that moment. One of the nurses said that brooklyn will always have a piece of mias heart. It makes it feel like we waited so long for a reason. And perhaps most amazingly, the successful domino transplant was also the first performed on infants anywhere in the world. Look at those smiles. Such happy little babies. Medical miracles there.
