Then a few hours later president elect biden picked up six more electoral votes with a projected win in nevada putting him at 279 electoral votes. And we saw people celebrating all day, and we can see well into the night there. But just about a couple hours or so the San Francisco Police Department did move the crowd to this plaza so they could open up traffic. But as you can see the celebration continues. This has been a Street Dance Party for hours. So many came here as a spontaneous release of anger and frustration that has been building for quite some time. It has been an extremely long week, and following the results every hour of the day has been excruciating, so we are very excited. Reporter the crowd quickly turned its attention to Vice President elect Kamala Harris and president elect joe biden as they spoke to the nation from their Campaign Headquarters in delaware. Black women, asian, white, latina, nativeamerican women who throughout our nations history have paved the way for this moment tonight. Reporter they gathered around a dj bus as the speeches were broadcast over loud speakers. Many here say the last four years have been difficult and they werent sure how this election would turn out. Im totally elated. Im totally relieved. I thought trump was going to win, and i feel like my faith in humanity is restored. Reporter many in this crowd had actively protested against many of president Donald Trumps policies. Tonight they cheered for the president elects calls for healing. Reporter now, many of these people have not been able to celebrate out in the streets this late for months because of the coronavirus pandemic. Doing things first is kind of the Vice President elects things. Harris had as a remarkable career. Shes the first black south asianamerican to hold that position. The Howard University graduate will also become the first person who went to school at a historically black college or university to rise to the vicepresidency. But making history is nothing new to harris. You might remember she was the first black senator to represent california, and before that in 2003 she was elected District Attorney of San Francisco becoming the citys first woman d. A. Her dual ethnicity also made her the first black woman and the first south asian woman statewide to hold that job. In addition to recognizing harris historic rise to the white house many are also celebrating her bay area roots. Tonight hundreds gathered in front of her childhood home in berkeley. Nbc bay areas Marianne Favro shows us. Reporter there is so much excitement here tonight. People have been driving by and honking. There was even a dance party here earlier. People are thrilled that they can come here and see the house where the Vice President elect grew up. This two story yellow building on bankcroft way in berkeley is quickly becoming a landmark. Today hundreds stopped by the honk at chalk art and messages on the sidewalk and take photos of the childhood home of Vice President elect Kamala Harris. This mom wanted to show her daughters that change starts in neighborhoods. For us to be able to say, look, you know, one of our nations most powerful leaders began right here and started change as a child in this neighborhood is really exciting. Reporter harris was born in oakland and lived in berkeley for 12 years. For most of that time this was her home. Now its a montessori school. To have a berkeley person in the white house whos, you know, a minority and a woman and just the most cool thing ever. Reporter as a child harris also attended Thousand Oaks Elementary School in berkeley. Her face is on a mural on campus. Today proud parents and students visited the school. It means a lot actually because the way kamala grew up, you know, in the program she was in, she was bussed here to get a great education. High daughter is following her fot stoop steps. Harris has also mentioned her childhood here saying this is where she learned the road to racial justsis long. Tonight a lot of pride in berkeley for the little girl with big dreams who went onto break barriers. In berkeley Marianne Favro, nbc bay area news. Well, with harris as Vice President elect, Governor Newsom is going to have to elect a replacement to fill her senate term. It will likely fill her seat in the 2022 general election. Hes not hinted who hes considering but hes no stranger to historic choices. Just last month he nominated the first openly Gay Supreme Court Justice to the Supreme Court. Hundreds of people across the country attended protrump demonstrations. In sacramento things got violent right outside the State Capitol building. People started pushing and shoving each other. Aside from a few tweets today the president has been mostly silent. Went golfing in virginia today, went back to the white house. The president has not conceded and continues to make claims of voter fraud, has not provided any evidence about that. He did release a statement this morning vowing to fight the results in court. Again, no evidence of any voter fraud. When president elect Biden Takes Office in january hes likely to face stiff Republican Opposition in the senate. Theyve worked together before when they were both in the senate. They know each other. It doesnt mean theyre best pals, but they know each other. They trust each other, and trust is a very, very a very small commodity in washington. And so i think that may go some distance in bringing some of the parties together to get some compromises. There is a very slim possibility of democrats tying the republicans in the senate if they won the two runoffs in georgia. Those runoffs are going to take place in january. Remember if the senate vote ends in a tie the Vice President breaks that deadlock and that would be Kamala Harris. Weve seen this before but really its the coastline there. Those areas facing the ocean probably seeing the strongest gusts right around Half Moon Bay and also the marin coastline and sonoma coast, too. You can see those wind speeds will be picking up right around sun rise. The areas in red and orange as we go through the day along those coastal facing communities and the higher hilltops plan on seeing those wind speeds picking up as we head through the afternoon. A chilly start to the morning. We get that wind chilled or feels like temperature, the air temperature in the 30s and 40s and winds of 10 to 20. Thats going to feel pretty raw on your skin tomorrow, bone chilling at least by our standards. Plus the call coming in during the afternoon. Thats going to keep our temperatures pretty high as well. 50s for highs and scanning to see if were going to see any showers in the forecast. As those clouds thicken up, we might see a slight chance of a sprinkle or two. Nothing really showing up there. Much better chances for rain actually showing up as we head to the second half of the week. As we take a look at that monday forecast the big chill that starts to settle in tonight like a sneak preview. Once those winds back off well be looking at mid30s for most of our valleys. Much Colder Weather to start the week and late thursday, friday and saturday could see an inch or two of rain to the north bay.
