High wind. Nbc sharon is live in the north bay where most of the Power Outages happened and bob redell is where a tree came down. First, we start with meteorologist kari hal. We have seen high wind gusts the past 24 hours. A live look outside. I want to take you to the mountains where winds have been gusting up to 89 Miles Per Hour where we measured late last night. We have also had high wind gusts in the sierra. Looking from alpine meadows, a live view, we measured 94mileperhour gust in the sierra. Temperature is only 34 degrees with relative humidity at 11 . So these high winds going along with this critically dry air is a reason why we still had this high fire danger as the wind advisory will be expiring here soon. Looking at the rest of the bay area, we have seen our wind gusts maxing out at 40 Miles Per Hour in santa rosa. Concord 31. 31 in San Francisco and 57 in oakland so a lot of trees down and a lot to clean up today and we will continue to track those winds. Ill have another update coming up in a few minutes. Thousands of people are still without power throughout the bay area because pg e was trying to prevent wildfires. Look at the pg e map. The areas in yellow are the folks who are in the dark. We are here on kurtner road and in fremont. One person lives in this neighborhood tells us these are the strongest winds he has seen since the early 1980s and if you take a look around, why . Take a look around. You can understand why. Fences are knocked down and debris and trash cans and other yard debris in the roads and trees down. This one being the largest. The arborist is trying to take the tree down here. You can see in the video the tree fell down around 3 00 this morning and crushed a steel fence like it was constructed of twigs and missed the house and causing little damage to the structure. It knocked down a power line which cut power to the neighborhood. The man who lives here woke up, heard the noise. Didnt think much of it at first until he came outside and saw the downed tree on his property and a small fire and another downed tree from the power line. I think of how lucky you are when i look at this. Do you feel lucky . Yes, definitely. I prayed. Reporter you pray . Yeah. But that was after. That was after. It sounded like a category 4 or 5 hurricane. That loud. Ear plugs in, still just raging. Reporter now pg e has been out here restoring power. So has the city of fremont. They said they have responded to 13 calls for stormrelated damage between 4 00 and 7 00 this morning. They are removing trees like this one here so the road can reopen. A lot of trees have come down in the east bay. Here is one on east avenue and crossed a section of the area. Federal Security Officers checked it out and called in a cleanup crew. Workers in cleaning up on 14th street and knocked down trees on davis and 580. Pg e shut off power to thousands of customers across the area. Here is a live look at their website and doing this in case the winds knock down power lines or equipment. We know that has happened in the past and started a wildfire. Contraco contracosta has over 15,000 without power. This is tree knocked down the power line here and not because of a Public Safety power shutoff. As far as the power shutoffs, people can see their power come on maybe around 10 00, depends where you live. Once this wind event ends and here in hasnt in fremont because on and off gusting winds the few hours we have been here. Once this wind event ends, pg e workers have to inspect the lines and equipment and make sure nothing got damaged so they can reenergize it. Bob redell, nbc bay area news. Reporter kris, the wind just kicked up again. You can see that they are doing a lot of work still this morning cleaning up. Just earlier, they had the leaf blower out here blowing out all of the leaves in from the front of this hotel and trying to fix the sign up that got twisted up in the wind. You look in peoples eyes because all you can see when they wear a mask, because the winds you can tell concerned them. Broken tree limbs and leaves scattered across the plaza and surprisingly, the lights remained on at sonoma plaza when in the recent past, with efficient seen shutoffs because of the high fire danger. We are continuing to monitor that the next 24 hours due to the red flag warning staying with us until 11 00 tomorrow morning. It will be breezy throughout the afternoon. We had high winds overnight. I know a rough night and hard to sleep. We are going to gradually start to see our winds calming down. Tomorrow, that red flag warning will continue, especially for the north bay and we will continue to monitor for that high fire danger. Some of those highest wind gusts were earlier this morning and late last night. Taking a look where we are right now. Some of those winds are mostly at about 15 to 20 Miles Per Hour. Still quite gusty in parts of the north bay. We have another wind gust up to 89 Miles Per Hour at mt. St. Helen. And amazing to see that happen with the wind gusts in the upper 80s. Relative humidity, makes it feel the air so crisp. We are now seeing those relative humidity numbers in the Single Digits so part of the reason why the high foyer danger continues. A live look outside in San Francisco going around the bay. Highs in the 70s today. It was chilly this morning. Those winds made it feel even cooler. A high of about 73 in San Francisco. We go all around the bay area here looking at our highs. No fog in sight because of the winds. Offshore mixing out the fog we typically see along the coastline. 77 degrees today and 78 degrees in concord. A few low 80s but not a lot we will see. Red flag warning continues for the bay area until tomorrow morning. Even though we are done with the wind advisory, there is still going to be breezy winds throughout the day. We are in between these two weather systems. Right now High Pressure to the west of us and very strong storm system moving across colorado and brought them muchneeded snow on top of the wildfires. In between these two weather systems air is pumping in fast and we are seeing wind from the north and northeast creating that offshore dry wind. That looks to continue for today. We are still looking at the highest of our fire danger in parts of the north bay even though its still going to be quite gusty with low humidity and descending air moving through our east bay hills as well. We have to watch out for more gusty winds before we get to the weekend. San francisco will have low 70s dropping it back to the upper 60s by the end of the week.
