Its a similar story in battleground pennsylvania where bidens old boss, former president barack obama, is set to campaign for him wednesday in philadelphia and while most National Polls have the former vp ahead, team biden warning about complacency. In a memo obtained by nbc news, bidens Campaign Manager urging supporters to Campaign Like were trailing President Trump meantime is hitting the rally stage in carson city, nevada sunday. Craig . Jeff bennett there at the white house. We turn to White House Correspondent hallie jackson. Lets talk about where things stand 15 days out. We spent some time talking about the race nationally but we know its going to come down to a handful of socalled battleground states. What do the latest polls in the battleground states show well, lets talk about them, craig. Joe biden has a lead nationally, but of course, that is not how the Electoral College works. So lets look at the swing states the big six, the michigan, pennsylvania, North Carolina, florida and arizona. Joe biden leads the president in all of them from 3 to 9 points. Pennsylvania is really interesting not just because it is my home state, but it is 20 electoral votes and according to experts, the Tipping Point of either candidate to hit the threshold to win. The president won by less than one percent, and joe biden is in the lead by seven points according to the latest polling. The message from the biden camp is dont get complacent even with these leads in Battle Ground states. The message from the Trump Campaign, they think the race is tighter than they show how are campaigns compare on the cash front how much money do they have . Here again, its the democrats with the big advantage to the tune of 383 million. The Trump Campaign and their backers 248 million. This is interesting, because the president back in the spreng, we talked about the advantage that he had. He filed the day of the inauguration to give him a threeyear head start, but it has evaporated now. The president headed to the very blue, very not battleground state of california. Why . Well, for a fundraiser. You have the reason why money is important, right it for things like ground game, getting out the vote, for things like advertising right now the biden has been outstanding the president on the air in september by a 3 to 1 margin, and we have talked about it in the battleground states wisconsin and michigan and pennsylvania. We are going to take you live to florida, one of the aforementioned battleground where inperson voting starts today. Nbcs Kerry Sanders has made his way to one of those polling sites. Hes in fort lauderdale. Good morning to you, sir reporter good morning. In florida the inperson voting has now started across most of the state. Its raining here in fort lauderdale, so the wait in line is about 30 minutes. A little miserable for voters but theyre definitely dedicated. Florida has 29 electoral votes, which is a prize and it explains why both the Trump Campaign and the Biden Campaign believe the root and the path to the white house is through florida reporter voters in florida began lining up in the dark this morning, nationwide, in 37 states including massachusetts, georgia, texas and louisiana and early voting is exceedingly popular. This is probably the most important election that weve had. At least in my lifetime. If youre not enthused or excited, then you have nothing more to say about your local government, your State Government so were up early, after we vote, were going to work. Reporter in florida, inperson voting is expected to be the preferring voice among republicans who say they dont trust mailin ballots or even using drop boxes thats because of everything thats going on, id just as soon vote in person on the day, just make double sure. Reporter close to one in five registered voters in florida have already cast their ballots by mail, democrats outvoting republicans by more than 460,000 votes but not all of the votes counted, close to 12,000 rejected, mostly because voters forgot to sign the envelopes. 12 years ago, dimpled chads threw the election into chaos. This year, the issue may be felons fighting illegally, ordering officials to scrub their rolls of felon voters. Does the issue of felon voters come a little too close to the election . I think timing is so disruptive right now what we dont need is any more disruption and confusion in the election reporter in 2016 trump won florida by just a 1 margin, despite polls showing biden with a slight edge in the battleground state, both campaigns believe florida is up for grabs. So kerry, we talked a little bit ago here, and the eyepopping money that both of to campaigns are spending in the final stretch of the race, and how has that played out specifically in florida . Well, in florida, it is a record. Advertising analytics show that biden and trump collectively have spent 233 million together in the state, and if you calculate it out to all of the renl stered voting, it is 2. 50 a vote, and remember, we have 15 days to get to the voters who have not voted yet, so a lot more voting dollars to be spent in florida. Craig . Hoe da kotb, guess what elsei is i have a question for kerry. What else are you doing tonight for your 60th birthday well, i will be voting, and some socially distance gathering that i may have some information on, but, yeah. Thank you, guys, so much. I cant believe that kerry is 60, man. Het look he looks like a lie boy. The ageless wonder, and especially with the mask. He is going to be carried by dolphins under the sea and serenaded by sebastian, but it is going to great, however, you will have to fight ursula, so look out for that. Happy birthday, my friend. We have a pool of chilly air from duluth, minnesota, which is 37 degrees below average to dallas, and high of 66, and that is 13 degrees below average, and warmer out west and to the south. Tomorrow, the cool air is going to retreat, and make our way to the Midatlantic States and washington tomorrow is 77, and we will be looking at the temperatures here in new york, and in the 70s, and also in good morning. Im meteorologist kari hall. A look at our live view in dublin, hazy out there. Were still going to see the moderate air quality in the north bay as well as the south bay. Good air quality elsewhere. We are also going to have a slight warmup for our inland areas, our coastal temperatures will come down a few degrees as the fog returns. Looking at 60s along the coastline and some upper 80s for the east bay. And that is your latest weather. At is your latest weath. Were back, 8 13 october is down syndrome Awareness Month and craig, as part of an ongoing series youre doing, youre looking at three different families and how they handled the return to school we had some really honest conversations about the challenges facing their children because theyre part of a 7 million or 14 of students in this country who receive special education services, services that are best received at school but going to school for these children can come with added risk it was a school dropoff like no other. Masked up, marching into middle school in darien, connecticut. Tell he about the mask. How is it . Tell he about the mask. How its fine i take breaks. Just a few hours away in stamford, it was hard to tell who was more excited to go back to school 8yearold abigail or her mother marcella. What has she said about school so far shes so happy. For 8yearold claire in new jersey, school means opening a laptop at her home with extra support from her family. How are you good. Hows dad doing as an athome teacher with mom hes a good dad he has taught me so much. And as a father with a young daughter, that always makes me a little mushy for these three children with down syndrome, school is more than reading, writing and arithmetic its a key source of socialization and oneonone therapy, support thats suddenly shifted to the parents when covid hit last spring. For me, losing all of school, it was very hard because i was by myself. Your teacher had an assistant in the class exactly and you had no assistant. In a survey, just one in five families in special education said they were receiving all the services the children were entitled to by law speech lended itself okay in zoom, but physical therapy not so much. Reporter they were eager to get their children back to school this fall but that came with a particular risk for that population of students. Were you and your husband worried about getting your children sick . Definitely. And kid who have down syndrome, there is some that talks about how their immune system may overreact. So i was a little worried. But then i thought, you know, his brothers going to school, dads going to work, hes still going to be exposed somewhat and it just didnt seem fair i thought. For the sturgis, the virus hit too close to home, the risk of catching it at school too great. Several people in my family contracted coronavirus and my dad passed away in april from the virus, and so it has had a big impact on claire, and that is part of the reason why she is doing virtual instruction. I am sorry for your loss. Thank you. I appreciate that. We feel school is the best place for all kids, especially for kids with disabilities but she does have some preexisting Health Conditions and has been hospitalized a couple times with respiratory illness. Reporter schools are doing everything to protect the kids, and especially those with special needs, but abigail is in class all day with special needs students, no longer interacting with the general population. You feel like she loses out no having those interactions yes kids copy everything so by seeing other kids more advanced on areas that she is a little delayed, it will help her a lot. In schools across the country, schools are playing catch up because of covid but some our neediest and most vulnerable are falling farther behind, even with our parents like kevin and paola and tricia doing everything they can to keep up. You can have a neighbor or somebody in your family who have kids with disability, if you have time, this would be a great time to help, either helping with school or helping with other things so the parents hav more time to help the kids there is something that we can all do there. And the fear of the schools shutting down again is having a real impact on the careers of patricia and paola. They both lost their jobs at the time that the epidemic hit. Theres no way they could both work full time and teach their kids they worry about handling things shut down again we want to wish a mean 18th birthday to claire on the story. Today is her 18th birthday happy birthday. I didnt know that statistic about the kids with down syndrome and the virus. I was unaware with that. You have a child with special needs. Yes the good thing is nick is healthy, hes in high school and hes in a hybrid, in school a couple days, virtual and it makes all the difference. He looks forward to getting on the subway, getting to school, getting back and its really important, that social interaction socialization, i did not fully appreciate we know obviously it important for all kids but for kid with special needs, socialization is paramount. And the help they get at school, the parents dont have now. And the dads play at the end to help out, and that plea, really important. Mr. Roker, how about a check of the forecast. We just got this in from the National Hurricane center. We have a tropical storm, a tropical depression. This could become epsilon. Were into the greek alphabet. Tropical depression number 27. We have a tropical system down there near the caribbean. And we will watch that one. We have snow coming across the plains and wet weather all of the way to the Mississippi River valley. For today we are looking at a soggy monday from the Mississippi River valley into the northeast. Warmer than average through the southwest. Snow showers today and tomorrow into the plains. Minneapolis may see two to three inches of snow by tomorrow and showers down through central and southern florida thats whats going on around good morning. Im meteorologist kari hall. All of these areas highlighted in orange are under a fire weather watch. And well have to continue to monitor our hills above 1,000 feet in the north bay starting this evening as the winds pick up. Its also going to be very dry and well above normal for this time of year. For the inland valleys. Reaching into the upper 80s, low 90s. Fire danger continues through the end of the week. By the weekend, it cools off with our valley temperatures dropping back to the 70s. I think its just about time for check your pocket watch from the turn of the century. Thats right. I love that pocket watch. It actually works it does is it 8 21 . No, its pop start time all right. Lets get to it. And we teased it. Is adele releasing new music no. But she is going to be hosting saturday night live this weekend. Youve seen her perform in 08 about being the host she writes bloody hell, im so excited about this and also absolutely terrified. And about snl, if ever there was a time for us to jump into the deep end with the eyes closed, it is 2020, right . Yes. And she goes on to praise her music guest her. And its noteworthy, her first time on snl was in 2012, and thats when she thought she made it in the states when she first performed on snl. And milely cyrus took part on a virtual stage. Mileys been embracing her rock side lately and it is working. She did a really cool cover of the cranberrys classic zombie, and she performed it on the strip, and here you go. In your head, in your head, zombie, zombie shes just been on a rock thing. Shes covered the blondie song and her own song sounds like a 70s thing, midnight rock and her fans are demanding a miley rock album, so we will see if we get that, but they are working to save all of the great venues all over the country, and so you can go on youtube and check it out and donate money. Welcome back, the voice returns tonight for 19th season. Those chairs will turn again. Gwen stefani is with us. Im excited, too. And that means getting the crown, seriously. Im italian, too. Hey, paison, ill make you sauce. Ill make you sauce you do make a heck of a sauce. Ive been the beneficiary of that sauce ive done a lot of cooking during the quarantine. We see that clip back there were back tonight were so glad to have you back what was it like shooting the voice during the pandemic with all the extra stuff we had to do it was not as weird as i thought. I think everyone felt even more grateful to be there because we felt special that we could actually work. I thought it felt unusually like normal the reality part of it felt even more real. There wasnt a lot of people around we felt like it was just us. You didnt feel the audience, the cameras or anything. It felt just super natural it seems like it would be a lot more intimate, gwen. Hey, honey i love the wide shot you could see all the audience members up on all those virtual screens. How did that feel, that side that vibe . Honestly, you kind of forget that theyre there you dont really feel the screens because theyre screens, you know but it was just really like intimate between the coaches and felt very like and with carson, it just felt very relaxed and there was something fun with that. I think it was probably harder for the contestants because there wasnt the energy of the audience being able to clap. It was just this amazing performance and us four, whoo you know i think its harder to perform in a smaller setting than a larger one for me personally so i can imagine that it is intense and i could feel like it is us and them and personal, and it was awesome. Ill tell you what, you know, you love your artist and when you would get somebody on team gwen, normally you would run up and hug them. You were so motherly on the show tell everyone what you did instead. I had like a cannon and was shooting out my tshirts, giving out my team gwen tshirts. It was actually really fun and not predictable. Because i was like all of a sudden it was falling out on the floor and i had this really like hard outfit on meaning like i couldnt squat down. There was a lot of technical difficulties with my look. I love it i cant wait to watch tonight. Carson said youre motherly you actually are a mom youve been taking care of your kids, quarantining with blake and family members i did this thing before the show, just googled gwen and blake. Heres what came up, gwen and blakes song, gwen and blake engaged and gwen and blake married and gwen and blake called off the wedding. So what is going on with the wedding . The good news is we still like each other a lot. Thats good. I dont know well see what happens, you know what im saying . Every time i see one of those headlines, i take a picture and the stuff they run about you guys is unbelievable ive been with you several times in oklahoma in the bubble and you and i are both from Southern California and 25 years ago tragic kingdom came out and i was with you as a young deejay at kjoa and so when that monster album came out and the tour, and you were just 25 years old and what are your thoughts its crazy just give us some thoughts on that time. You were so young. Honestly, when we had the 25year anniversary just the other day and everybody was posting and i was oh my god, carson, youre such a babe, look at you i was just like it was very emotional. It was an emotional couple days. I didnt know i would be like that i just i just cant believe that people listen to that record so much and people have always come up to me through the years and tell me its their favorite record and what it got them through it was just such an innocent moment for me. I didnt even know i could write songs. So it was me discovering me and be able to like figure out what my purpose is and be able to contribute, you know i really didnt have anything before that. I was just kind of floating. And so that record kind of put me on the map as far as like having a live. And im just so grateful and its just an unusual record. It is very weird, you know, when you listen to the actual music, youre like this music, what is this well, your music sounds great. Youve played me a couple tracks what can you tell america about where youre headed . I feel so excitedits so music is my lifeline you know what i mean its so therapeutic. To be able to be writing again, sometimes you push that button and nothing really good comes out. Other times you press it and youre like oh my gosh the channel has opened its coming down through me. And youre just like thank you its the greatest feeling. I cant wait to share it somethings coming really soon i also got to do some christmas music, which is really exciting. The christmas record, i have a couple new songs on that and working with hallmark is cool. Gwen, we cant wait to hear all of it. Youre one of the most authentic people i get why people fall in love with you aw. Were excited to have you come back and join us on the fourth hour. The new season of voice premieres tonight, 8 00, 7 00 central right here on nbc. Cant wait to see that coming up, a Remarkable Group of empowered women looking to help other women by changing the convertion around menopause. Sa when was the last time your property tax bill went down . What . Never. Are you kidding me . For years, the residential burden has gone up. While the corporate burden has gone down. Prop 15 reverses that. It closes corporate loopholes and invests in schools, small business, and firefighters. And when the big corporations pay more, your tax bill goes down. Thats right. A savings of a hundred twentyone dollars a year for the average home. Give homeowners a break. Vote yes on 15. Were back focusing on an important topic that women dont talk about enough. We really dont were talking about menopause. Now one company is bringing women together just to talk about it Kristen Dahlgren joins us with details. Good morning good morning to you guys. And by talking about it, they are hoping to change the conversation by hoping that women have the products and the knowledge to really thrive. Ive carried that negative feeling about menopause with me my whole life. For generations, it was referred to as the change. It sounded so mysterious and something that you could not talk about in public and it was taboo. Now a group of women say the change should be how we think about menopause. Its just another stage of life that were in it should be something that is spoken about im more comfortable in my own skin and i dont know anything thats more beautiful theyre part of the collective,. They are part of the group that is part of the collective. Why do you think we dont talk about menopause some think its about being fertile and when thats over, its done. But instead, they see it as a beginning and a blank canvas to help women get products to help with the side effects. 75 of women experience hot flashes, palpations and migraines and others can also suffer loss of concentration and night sweats and other symptoms. Theyve helped to develop products to help and but their biggest contribution is conversation lets talk about sex. Menopause has an impact. Theres conversation happening about physical intimacy because your body is changing and you have to honor your body in a different way and have a conversation with your partn partner, too. What would you tell someone who is maybe going to be going through menopause in the next few years . I would say its okay to be vulnerable about it. Just be kind and easy on yourself i wish like when i was growing up that it was more of an approachable conversation and so i would recommend that people try to like, you know, talk about it, even subtly. And they hope by talking about menopause, more women will feel comfortable with their body at every stage in life i hope that this dialogue that were having promotes a new definition and a new way of talking and framing menopause. It doesnt define you at all. I mean, its just something that, you know, we go through. All women go through and its just crazy that its still thought of that way. It doesnt have to be negative its just what comes next. Were definitely have control of the narrative so, you know, this opportunity to be able to be a part of our own narrative, our own chapter in life. And listen to this. Good enough to cook salmon and Brussel Sprouts at 5 30 in the morning in los angeles. Where did you get that salmon give us a tip at picking out good salmon. I really love to use Atlantic Salmon i got this from whole foods. A slice thats nice and thick, the center cut here and you can see it right here, and i like a little bit of fat, but not too fat, and leave the skin on, and that is important. Skin on. You leave it on, right yes. Absolutely. The crispy skin is my favorite were going to start with the salmon and then well try and squeeze in the brussels sprouts. First were going to start by making the sauce im making the tamarind sauce. Were going to add some brown sugar, fish sauce, tamarind, which is a very tangy, fruity sauce that you dont typically see with salmon but this is something that my parents taught me to use a lot with my soups and we love it with fish really. So i made this dipping sauce its really easy you just let it simmer and thicken up so this will thicken up over here but in the meantime were going to work on the salmon. So with the salmon, i really love using a grill pan like this with a nice grate, and if you dont have that, you can use a flat cast iron pan or something that sears well, and get it nice and hot. So once it is hot, you can add it right on. Oh, the skin side up. Yes. And what i like to do is to sear it each side for five minutes, because it is a thicker cut, you want to make sure that it is cooked, but not fully cooked, because it tends to dry out, salmon, and here is the final product. Nice. Beautiful grill marks. Yes. And the fun thing about this is that i like to dress it up. We have this beautiful cut of salmon and i have some fried shallots here. Fried shallots add so much depth and flavor and then you also have a crunchy component. So you have chopped peanuts and another fresh component is this green onion relish ooh its a beautiful dish what happens with that dipping sauce . You just dip that salmon right in there absolutely. The dipping sauce i just add along the sides. I think we may have to do your brussels sprouts online on the web site but we love that salmon. That looks delicious. Pass that through, there. And the honeysuckle cookbook is out now. You can find that online at today. Com. We have so many beautiful souls here on the big board. Bye, everybody.
