Thats not the only area were seeing that are closing beaches as a way to prevent the spread of covid. A number of beaches will still remain open around the bay area and while being outside may be a safer option than inside its still very important to follow those safety guidelines. If people are not wearing masks, everybody is close to each other, then its not a safe space. People congregate inside in the kitchen to help with food preparation and drinks and that kind of activity, and we would really ask that only the host be in the kitchen, that guests do not help out with any sort of food preparation. Reporter santa clara and Contra Costa County reported quite a few mum of cases. Health Officials Say a lot of that spread comes through asymptomatic carriers, so its important to wear that mask, keep that social distance and, of course, the safest bet to avoid social gatherings or keep them small and keep them outside. Well, if you are looking to get out of the house this Labor Day Weekend, more parks will be open after recent shutdowns tied to wildfires and covid19. Visitors must follow new restrictions and park rangers recommend you plan ahead visiting during the cooler parts of the day. Maybe more the shade of the tree it sounds like this weekend. Can we go at 3 00 in the morning . Right, vianey . Exactly. Its going to be way too hot. I honestly have no desire to be outside during triple digit heat so it will depend on where you live. Usually around the coastline, people who live around the peninsula, dont ever need to turn on their ac. They get that natural Mother Nature ac. It will warm up around there, too. Todays forecast will be the last day to enjoy more seasonable temperatures in the 60s and the 70s for the coastline and in through the interior valleys in the 80s. It is going to be warmer than it was yesterday. So something to keep in mind there. What are we looking out for this weekend . Theres an excessive heat warning that goes into effect tomorrow. What are we monitoring . Unhealthy air quality will remain. Were talking also possible really strong wind event and pair that with triple digit heat and also gusty conditions. Thats going to make for a very dangerous condition 20 to 30mileperhour winds, increased fire danger, the potential for Power Outages as well. And that triple digit heat might be near record highs today. So overall microclimate highs for this afternoon, again, will remain in the 70s and 80s. A sneak peek of what is going to be a heat wave. The reason its going to be a heat wave its not just going to be for this weekend. We are again, that excessive heat watch was upgraded to a warning because of the near record temperatures, areas to could see temperatures above 105 degrees that will keep us in mind. Bay side will climb into the 80s and 90s. Ill have more details on exactly what you can expect heading into the workweek. Lets check in with mike. All right, vianey. Normally i would whine about the temperatures but, my gosh, we have the firefighters who are out there so, again, a tougher job. Lets get out to the roadways. Lets look at the cameras on the maps. A slower drive for just two portions of the bay. Were getting northbound 880 past the coliseum. Traveling north past the coliseum, we still are down to one lane but it looks like at the top we might have some relief as crews might be clearing those lanes for the overnight road work toward 23rd. You see it by the coliseum is jammed up. Im tracking a crash coming up. Back to you. Where are all those people going . Thanks so much, mike. 5 11. Maybe getting something to eat. Fast food drivethrough 2. 0. Showing off the future of touchless drivethrough pickups inspired by the pandemic. It sounds like one of those things that, you know, goes around facebook, one of those rumors, but facebook will pay you to delete your facebook account. Well walk you through it coming up. Plan, pivot. How do you bounce back . You dont, you bounce forward, with serious and reliable internet. Powered by the largest gig Speed Network in america. But is it secure . Sure its secure. And even if the power goes down, your connection doesnt. So how do i do this . You dont do this. We do this, together. Bounce forward, with comcast business. And we are under a microclimate weather alert this friday morning ahead of an excessive heat warning that will take effect this weekend. We are monitoring a heat wave around the bay area tracking triple digit heat plus a spare the air alert is still in effect. Ill talk more about what you can expect heading into the weekend coming up in a few minutes. And what you can expect, vianey, well take the traffic angle here westbound 80 down through pinole. One lane in the upper east shore freeway and continuing over in oakland northbound is the direction. Everybody is packed in approaching the coliseum, jammed up in the Construction Zone because youre down to one lane at the worst point of this construction. We should see clearing we do thats better news. And good morning and a very happy friday to you as well. Super interesting story coming out of the Washington Post this morning that says facebook is willing to pay you to delete your facebook account and your Instagram Account as well in the weeks leading up to the election. Part of a Research Project where sociologists want to see how peoples opinions and voting behavior are affected by facebook. They need a control group thats not on facebook. Facebook wholeheartedly participating in the project and paying as much as 20 a week not to use facebook. Honestly this sounds like one of those things your greataunt forwards you on facebook, but this is actually real. You do have to be invited into the project. The other big story today it is jobs friday. We will get the latest numbers out of the Labor Department coming up at 5 30 our time. The stock markets plunged yesterday as investors stopped investing in tech. There had been a huge runup in tech stocks and so while the numbers are just alarming, most experts are unconcerned. Its a normal adjustments. Prices have been so high we get historic moves. Apple lost 180 billion in value yesterday in market cap. That is the largest single fall of any company in the history of companies. Well, we knew the ecigarette maker juul would lay off, and theyre big layoffs, as many as half its workers, pulled back marketing to just u. S. And canada. And this is the first friday after President Trumps payroll tax holiday took effect. Id be surprised if your paycheck changes, to be honest with you. Companies are authorized to stop taking payroll taxes from you but few will, say experts. Just too much confusion over the plan. President trump likes to think of it as a mandate that employees can opt in and out of it. However, the way the irs regulations were released, its largely optional. We believe a lot of businesses wont even offer it because the administrative headache plus the need to work around standard payroll systems is more than they can overcome. So if you notice that the taxes are included, you get the money this week or more likely next week, remember, kris and laura, you still have to pay them next year, so really hold on to that extra money so you can pay it next year. And say good morning to murph dog wandering around behind you, i think looking for his food bowl. Hes active this morning. He is. Ive seen him three times. Go give him a treat. Its friday. Spend some of that paycheck on treats. Lets get a treat. Hes so cute. Thank you, scott. So in the age of the pandemic burger king says its building restaurants aimed at eliminating the need to go inside. The new design plans touchless experience with wush sicurbside, more drivethrough lanes where customers can get meals through the companys app. Whats more, if you use the drivethrough your food about come out on a conveyor belt. They will open in miami, latin america and the caribbean next year. They should use the tubes they use at the bank, just send it over that way. Look at this this morning. A Close Encounter for one man at a theme park in tennessee. That is not part of what is supposed to happen. A family of bears roamed into the path of the roller coaster the man is riding. The park says a staff member was nearby and was ready to take action if necessary. But you never know whats going to happen on a roller coaster you wouldnt expect that. I was just going to say i wouldnt expect that. No. Quite the surprise. Youre going to need a good breeze of a roller coaster or anything that you can get, fanning yourself this weekend. Im already hot. Its really going to heat up. Summer is hanging on, vianey. It really is and its coming in tough. Now one thing to keep in mind for those who live around the coastline, theyre pretty lucky with the ocean breeze there. Well get some of that sea breeze but by the weekend, man that High Pressure will be dominating and will kick heat wy conditions and a wind event that were really concerned about which is why were under a microclimate weather alert this morning ahead of the heat wave to make sure youre prepared. Right now a great view over walnut creek. You can see we have a calm start there. A couple of clouds hanging out in San Francisco but, again, were expecting the low includes to start mixing out with the heat really taking over this weekend. Our current temperature in the 50s. This is as comfortable as its going to get for today. Well start a little bit of a a. Take a look at your daytime highs. 88 in concord. And 83 in napa. But that is nothing compared to the triple digit heat which is why they have upgraded that excessive watch that was initially set up for yesterday into a warning that begins tomorrow at 11 00 a. M. Were talking near record temperatures, but here is what were also pretty strong wind event. Offshore winds heading into monday. We already have a number of fires burning nearby. Pair that with low humidity and excessive heat, this could really turn to be a dangerous situation, more dangerous than it already is. 108 degrees potentially heading into sunday. That is just way too hot. Mike, im going to send it over to you. Wow, the Weather Forecast way too hot. We are obviously forecasting a slowdown which we still see here in oakland as we take a live look over to the nimitz. We have those brake lights filling in the whole screen. You notice the lanes off to the left side are starting to be clear but still we have those crews in lane from the coliseum up on the map up to 23rd. Overnight construction crew at the worst point, most construction is did you know to just one lane. Thats why its still slow in the process of clearing. We have westbound 80 over to pinole valley roadblocking one lane. Things are starting to ease up a little bit. Approaching the scene of the crash, there must still be activity there. The rest of the bay clear. Back to you. Reporter a surprise in the mailbox. People tell us they are receiving dozens of letters from the state that arent for them.
