For joining us. Im laura garcia. Im marcus washington. Mike is keeping an eye on our commute for us. First kari hall with a forecast on what we can expect for today. We are starting out with low clouds, but we will clear out and it will be a nicer day ahead meaning cooler temperatures, as well as a light wind. Now were still dealing with the smoke drifting in at times, especially once the morning clouds clear out. And so were looking at temperatures here in walnut creek in the upper 50s reaching into the 70s as we go into late morning. Mike, youve been following a couple issues out there for the commute. Yes. Still over there in the east bay, kari. Hayward into union city. Lets look at 880. The nimitz freeway the second and third crashes of the last 45 minutes now block your right lanes southbound and jammed up to about fremont boulevard. Tow trucks are en route. Im told a total of six vehicles that have to be cleared. Well track that. The only slow drive right now, laura. Back to you. All right, thank you very much. Busy morning this morning. We are following several breaking news stories. At this hour were tracking the three wildfires, of course, burning across the bay area. Weve been fwilaura, which just a short time ago made but, first, more overnight protests in kenosha, minneapolis and oakland. President trump has ordered federal agents to kenosha while the governor has called in the National Guard. Agents are also caare being called. Briefly blocked at the lake shore exit. All of it in response to the Police Shooting sunday of jacob blake. Blake now paralyzed from his waist down and the u. S. Department of justice confirming it is launching a federal rights investigation. Authorities have now identified that officer who shot blake. Rusten sheskey, a sevenyear veteran. Officers were called to the scene for a domestic disturbance and tried to arrest blake. The entire incident caught on camera which we have frozen before those shots were fired. He opened the driver side of the door and then leaned forward. Sheskey was holding blakes shirt and fired seven times hitting blake in the back. Investigators now say that a knife was found on the floor of blakes suv. Meanwhile, police have now charged 17yearold suspect in that deadly shooting during tuesday nights protests. The Republican National convention playing out on the National Stage as protests rage on. Today in the bay tracie potts live for us in washington and, tracie, i know the Vice President mike pence focusing on the racial equality and all that unrest last night. Exactly. It was a very blue speech along with some of the others at the republican convention. The Vice President focusing on Police Officers as he has done in the past and supporting those officers. Heres what he said from ft. Mchenry in baltimore last night. Whether in minneapolis, portland or kenosha. Too many heroes have died defending our freedom to see Americans Strike each other down. We will have law and order on the streets of this country for every american of every race and creed and color. That quick reference to kenosha, but no specific reference to what happened to jacob blake. Vice president , former Vice President joe biden said he and Kamala Harris spoke with the family. Hurricane laura barrelled into the gulf coast as a category 4 storm near lake charles, louisiana. We have a live look at lake charles, in fact, right now. Look at that. You already continue to see the damage and the winds still blowing through the area. And weve got some new video of the storm as it moved through carlos, louisiana. Not too far really from lake charles. A deluge of heavy rains up to 150 miles per hour. Take a look at video posted by one reporter from our affiliate there. Trees, branches down in that area. In the meanwhile, today in the bay jay gray had his own problem contending with the rain and wind. Take a look. Hey, philip, weve just gone through the eye and now were getting the back side of this system. It is pounding this area as it has been for several hours here. Wow. No kidding. Poli potentially deadly for people. They say its huge the wall of water that could be coming, kari. This is an area that i know very well. Low lying area right along that coast line. So, even a small storm surge could be very catastrophic in this area. Now that were on the back side of this and high tide is coming in, still expecting some rising water in those areas. That along with the heavy rain and high winds and the threat of tornadoes. Here were seeing our weather calming down after having a lot of really high heat and a lot of smoke due to those wildfires. Today we should see some improvement as we see some higher humidity in spots like dublin. Well also have a nice and much more comfortable day. Well check in on the air quality coming up in a few minutes. Mike has a look now at the morning commute. Thats right, kari. Closures continue for the fire zones and well focus on the folks on the other freeways for the morning commute as we look as you travel around the bay. Everything looks all right. But well take you back over to the east bay where we continue to have problems for this section of the nimitz and now into fremont and jammed up to fremont boulevard and two crashes, six vehicles. More on this and the weekend forecast coming up. And three Tow Companies called to the starting before you get to alvarado and six vehicles still have to be pulled from the roadway there. Kevin myers says even though he has been on the job a few months, he will leave as the Trump Administration is forcing tiktoks Parent Company to cite security concerns. Okay, this is the most Important News of the day other than fires and covid, obviously. Jerome powell will be speaking in jackson hole and he may announce major ways in which the fed handles the economy will be changed. What the fed does affects your savings, your credit cards, to some degree your mortgage and even how much the money, the dollar in your pocket is worth. Normally this is behind closed door meetings that will actually stream it live on youtube starting at about 6 10 this morning. I think, marcus and laura, might get more attention if they streamed it somehow on tiktok or instagram. But, again, what the fed does and i dont know what these changes are going to be or if theyre going to announce these changes, if i did, i would be a very rich man. What they do affects everything that has anything to do with the money in your pocket. Sure, sure. I dont know if well be dancing about it on tiktok. Maybe a safe bet where theyre playing now. It will be interesting to see what they have to say. Thanks a lot, scott. Okay. Nothing like bringing a baby home. Trending this morning, singer a katy perry and fiance Orlando Bloom just wellm canned their first child together. Daisy dove bloom was born yesterday. Little hand there. The couple says, quote, theyre floating with love. Perry also may have been hinting at that name through her music recently. She released that song call ed daisies just back in may. Congratulations to them. Such a precious time. Congratulations, but daisy bloom might have some tough times at school once her name becomes something that people may enjoy. Shes a celebrity. You know, i mean, some of those other celebrities, i mean banana. I mean, they have all those crazy names. Blue ivy. Think about that. And now people are like blue ivy. So, you know, hey. You need a strong name like marcus washington. Hey, you said it not me. All right. 5 18. Well, the name laura has been pretty strong with hurricanes but not in our neck of the woods. Yeah. Were watching that as, of course, its going to have huge impacts across the gulf coast over the next couple days. Here were seeing some improving weather conditions with fog each morning and some also cooler temperatures as we take a live look outside in walnut creek. Were still going to at times have some smoke drifting by because those fires are still burning. And we are hopefully going to continue to get more containment. Im watching the weather conditions around these fires. Lets start out with whats going on across the Santa Cruz Mountains where this morning its in the mid 50s and humidity levels are at 91 . Were not seeing a lot of wind gusts and today those high temperatures will reach into the low 80s. As we look at the scu and are going to have warm weather for the afternoon reaching into the 90s, but now slowing the spread of the fires with the temperatures starting out in the mid 50s, as well as that high humidity to go along with that. So, as we look at our air quality because we are still seeing the drifts of smoke coming in, especially coming over towards marin county and into san rafael, were starting out this morning with unhealthy air quality as well as the south county as gilroy this morning sees unhealthy air quality coming in from the Santa Cruz Mountains. But everywhere else it is fairly low this morning and we are going to see that smoke really starting to build once those temperatures warm up later today and that fog clears out. So, as we go into today, were going to see our temperatures in the upper 80s for some of the warmer spots along the coastline were in the upper 60s and later on this evening, once those winds start to pick up, it should help clear out the air just a little bit at least at times we will be able to see clear blue sky. As we go through the forecast, it will heat up tomorrow, as we reach into the mid 90s, but were back in the low 90s for the inland areas and some of the hottest temperatures well see and San Francisco will stay in the 60s with fog each morning. Mike, whats the update on the morning commute . Well, kari, we still have problems on the nimitz freeway. The first one was the Traffic Alert that cleared and the second one not a Traffic Alert, but there are two crashes. I will alert you to southbound 880. Over on the right side of the screen were zooming in and youre jammed up out of hayward through union city and into fremont boulevard in fremont where there are a fourth towing company to be called. Your two left lanes are blocked. Your two right lanes are open. Its not a Traffic Alert simply because they didnt call it a Traffic Alert. Im saying watch that area. Also were watching a disabled vehicle in through sunol for south 680. Live look at the bay bridge shows you the backup has not formed and were fine right there and on the approach. Back to you. Thanks, mike. Get ready, set, reopen. But outdoors only. Nextt for you here on today in the bay rules of growing confusion in Alameda County. Plus, coronavirus in the classroom. Bay area schools getting the green light for inclass learning. First, Morgan Chesky tracking hurricane laura. Hey, everybody. Good morning. Hurricane laura has officially made landfall and we are 30 miles inland at lake charles. So, lets just take a peek at what is happening outside right now. Stand by. Look and listen to that. Be sure to follow, nbcbay area on twitter and facebook for ongoing updates like that throughout the day on the hurricane. Heres a live look for you at lake charles where you can see the wind gusts, yes, certainly strong out there and also have more on the storms path all morning long coming up for you right here on today in the bay. Its 5 22. New details for you on last months fire that burned for four days in san diego. It is now appearing to have been set on purpose. A Defense Department source says that identifies a navy sailor as that suspect. At the time it was being renovated and mostly empty. More than 50 people suffered smoke inhalation and still unclear if the ship can be salvageable. Continuing our coronavirus coverage. California has now surpassed 687,000 confirmed cases in more than 12,000 people have died. Some businesses in Alameda County are very concerned about new reopening plans that are rolling out tomorrow. A new health order allows outdoor salons, barbershops, swimming pools and massage parlors to resume service but some say the poor air quality from so much wildfire smoke presents challenges when it comes to outdoor air cuts and facials. Also starting tomorrow, Contra Costa County outdoors. Getting the green light for inperson classes. Last month the south bay Moreland School district in san jose applied for the reopening for four elementary schools. Santa clara county Health Leaders have now approved that reopening for students with learning disabilities and for students who cant distance learn. The district was supposed to reopen this week, but because of the smoke from the wildfires, those plans were delayed. Well, all this month nbc bay area and telemundo 48 are working to clear the shelters. Thats right. And to get the word out, were bringing in some serious star power. I didnt write that, by the way. These are two fabulous felines named laura garcia and mike inouye. There are still many that need a happy home. You can find a full list of the participating shelters by going to nbcbayarea. Com. The serious star power is coming tomorrow when we show you marcus washington. Help us clear the shelters. Absolutely. You know, we are following a lot of breaking news this morning, including unrest and rising tensions in the bay area. Next here on today in the bay the chaotic overnight protests in oakland after the kenosha Police Shooting. And three major wildfires still burning across the bay area. But were going to talk about some new signs of progress that were seeing from firefighters and an update on the evacuations. Plus, hurricane laura making landfall as perhaps the strongest storm to ever hit the gulf coast. Take a look at these live photos right now. Our team is tracking the path and Current Conditions and well have a look at that damage already left behind, coming up. Right now at 5 30, outrage in oakland. Protest over a wisconsin Police Shooting turned violent in oakland overnight. That damage were now seeing come up for you in a live report. Plus great to be back into your own place. In Santa Cruz County, some evacuees get to return home, but thousands are still waiting. Were live with the very latest on all the bay area wildfires. And one of the most powerful storms to ever hit the gulf coast, hurricane laura makes landfall overnight. We are getting our first look at some of the destruction left behind. Today in the bay continues right now. Certainly a busy overnight. Good morning to you on this thursday. Im marcus washington. And im laura garcia. Weve got it all covered for you, including your morning commute. But lets take a look at that forecast right now. Meteorologist kari hall, good morning. Good morning. We have a nice, cool start to our day as we are seeing mostly some mid to upper 50s around the bay area. Right now 60 degrees in san jose. Were at 58 degrees right now in napa. As we go into today, were going to see sunshine but at times still that smoke drifting by and in pleasant hill, we go from the upper 50s to the low 70s at noon. Were enjoying a bit of a break from the warm weather weve had recently with our high temperatures in san jose today reaching 80 degrees. Some mid 70s for oakland and still up to 94 today in clear lake with morgan hill reaching 86 and livermore today a high of 88 and 90 in antioch and in Half Moon Bay were in the mid 60s as that fog moves right back in. Mike, how is it looking for the fog, as well as the closures and all we have going on . Well, kari, the fog is not a problem in our reports. What is a stated problem is the nimitz freeway. Take you out to the map. Two crashes zero injuries, thats the good news. Start to tap the brakes at tennyson and between there and fremont boulevard, six vehicles. Sounds like one of them still in lanes. We had four Tow Companies called. At one time we had two lanes blocked and only one that is blocked now that will bog you down getting towards the dumk p dumbarton bridge. Back to you, laura. All right, thanks so much, mike. Well, theres so much breaking news to get to this morning. At this hour, we are tracking the three major wildfires that are burning across the bay area and our team is monitoring hurricane laura as it made landfall packing 1 150mileperhour winds. The evacuations and damage impacting so many from both of these disasters. Well of course, have more on this coming up in just moments. First, we want to start with Live Team Coverage for you on the racial growing unrest in the country sparking new tensions and chaos. New overnight for you, protests in kenosha, minneapolis and right here in the bay area. All of it in response to Police Shootings sunday of 29yearold jacob blake. Paralyzed from the waist down. And the u. S. Department of justice now confirming it is launching a federal civil rights investigation. Authorities have now identified the officer who shot blake. Rusten sheskey sevenyear veteran. Officers called to the scene for domestic disturbance and tried to arrest blake. The caught on camera. Officers first deployed a taser on blake when he opened the drivers side of the door and sheskey was holding on to blakes sherd and fired his gun seven times hitting blake in the back. Investigators say a knife was found on the floor of blakes suv. Meanwhile, police have charged a suspect during the shooting and identified as kyle rittenhouse. Today in the bay bob redell following Pro Sports Team in response to the shooting, as well. First, lets get to Cierra Johnson and the scene of the really tense protests last night. Trying to clean up from it all, cierra. Yes, cleanup is officially under way. When those protests began yesterday, the organizers really wanted things to remain peaceful. At some point, things took a turn and this is the result of that protest taking a turn. Weve been out here for about an hour the entire time crews have been working to replace this glass. They had to start by breaking all of the glass because so much of it was shattered only to replace it again. I dont know if you can see, but inside of the store, theres glass all over the floor. So, im assuming that produce is going to have to be thrown out because you dont want to get anyone sick. But, out here just glass all over the ground. Graffiti on parts of the building, even some of the road block signs have graffiti on them. We have video of what the protests looked like last night here in oakland. According to oakland pd, those protests began around 8 00 last night. And within an hour, they believe it was the agitators within the crowd that tried to set businesses on fire near lake merit and also throwing things at officers. By 10 45, chp said 580 was shut down in both directions because of those protesters. Windows were broken out at the Alameda County superior court and once those windows were broken, fire was set inside. A car was burned out near lake merit and oakland pd said they believe at one point those crowds reached 600 to 700 people. For many people hitting the streets in oakland they are angered by what played out with the officerinvolved shooting. But they wanted to get their point across in a peaceful manner. Take a listen to what one of the participants had to say about doing just that. I respect everything but at the end of the day, make it be peaceful. All these people are resting in peace. Stop tearing up our city in places where we have to live. Now, oakland pd says there were several arrests made and none of their officers were injured in those protests from last night. This is just another look at what crews are having to deal with in this cleanup. You can see this tall tower window has some type of a hole in it. Completely shattered it and didnt fall out. It is shattered. Glass inside the entrance of the store and it is important to point out that there are several security cameras. Im sure at some point whole foods will work with Law Enforcement to pin down who may have been involved. But out here this morning a lot of cleanup under way. I think i saw the first boards going up on those windows. Were live in oakland, Cierra Johnson for today in the bay. Wow, what a night. What a night last night. Thanks so much, cierra. Marcus . The giants doubleheader today against the dodgers, that is up in the air. Not to mention the rest of the nba playoffs as pro athletes nationwide are protesting the shooting of jacob blake. Bob redell live outside of earthquake stadium and i know they postponed the game last night and have another one coming up saturday. What about that one . Well, marcus, the quakes havent probably addressed the status of saturdays game. As you mentioned, they did postpone last nights game against the Portland Timbers in a show of solidarity with the black community and the San Jose Earthquakes organization stands with the black community, our players, the bay area, and the nation in the fight against injustice and inequality. We support our players decision to not play in tonights match in an effort to shed light on the injustice in our country and we will continue to use our platform to make change. A black lives matter banner is on display as the giants agree to postpone last nights game against the dodgers after the dodgers decided not to play. Mookiebetts told the team he was not playing to protest the Police Shooting of jacob blake. Blake who was black was shot seven times in the back in kenosha, wisconsin, by a Police Officer who was white. Betts desishz followed the Milwaukee Bucks decision to boycott their playoff game against the orlando magic. For me, i think no matter what, i wasnt going to play tonight. For White Brothers to come in and support the black men in this game is much more powerful and we did talk to the giants, as well. They were in lock step with our thoughts. I think the right answer for us and myself as a white man was to sit out with them. To support the players and just not be here tonight. And right there nba broadcaster kenny smith walked off the set last night during his broadcast on tnt to show his solidarity with the bucks players and other nba players who refused to play basketball. Washington post reports later this morning the nba board of governors will meet on whether or not to resume the nba playoffs. The giants and dodgers are scheduled to play a doubleheader today. The giants say that theyre ready to play ball. The giants manager, excuse me, the dodgers manager says thats another conversation. Reporting live here in san jose, bob redell today in the bay. Thank you. We want to remind you a lot of people having conversations right now. We have been having this conversation and keeping it going. Were talking about race in america. Its led by myself, Jessica Aguirre and four of those series and episodes in the past and another one coming up next month for you. All the past conversations. They can be found right now on our website, nbcbayarea. Com raceinamerica. Take the time to check it out. Tso other big breaking bay area story. The ongoing trio of complex fires and work that is actually being done by some of the firefighters just to try to get these firefights contained. We have good news to report in Santa Cruz County this morning a week after being evacuated, the orders have now been lifted for uc santa cruz. People were forced to evacuate last thursday as that fire came within a mile of campus. So far, though, the school is only reopening faculty and employee housing. We spoke with workers relieved to be back home. Other areas are still evacuated and the fire is now 21 contained. Firefighters now say that fire has destroyed more than 400 homes and dozens of other structures. As for the two other large fires burning here in the bay area. On your left you see right there firefighters are making more progress battling the scu fire. It has burned moand more than 3 contained. The lnu fire in the north bay. Those flames burning more than 360,000 acres. Its 33 contained. Also, an additional 300 National Guard troops have now arrived into santa rosa. Today theyre going to work alongside those firefighters. And breaking right now on the gulf coast, hurricane laura churning its way through louisiana after making landfall a few hours ago near the border with texas leaving some areas devastated. Look at the size of her. Little before midnight our time it made landfall as a category 4 near lake charles, louisiana. Its now at a category 3 strength. And it is expected to weaken to a Tropical Storm by this afternoon. Were getting a firsthand look of some of the damage already left behind. Wind sometimes hitting 150 miles per hour. So high toppling a truck you see there. This happened in lake charles. The National Weather service is calling this a catastrophic storm surge. Want to take a live look, in fact, at lake charles right now which has been the victim of all this heavy rain, wind and a lot of flooding overnight. You see the Winds Continuing and the palm trees just blowing there. Today in the bay jay gray is on the ground there. Hell join us with the latest coming up. Just seeing all that. That is it is hard. I mean, just such a huge storm and i know, kari, you covered hurricanes in the past and you know this area well. Oh, absolutely. I was there for hurricane rita that took this exact same path and was slightly weaker and that was pretty devastating in that area and seeing Even Stronger hurricane really makes you just really feel bad for the people there. And this is also still spawning tornadoes, as well as that heavy rainfall. And to see it that far inland and its still a category 1 hurricane is pretty remarkable. This will be in arkansas as a Tropical Storm later today. So, well be monitoring this and well have more updates on our weather here thats coming up in a few minutes. Scott . Kari, coming up on today in the bay the latest from the Republican National convention including the speech from Vice President mike pence. Plus, bay area Health Leaders pushing back against the cdc against the newly revised guidelines. 5 43 for you this morning. Youre watching today in the bay. Right now at 5 46. If youre going out for a walk around foster city, we will have some better air quality today and cool temperatures. Mid 50s to start and some upper 60s by 1 00 as the bay area enjoys cooler temperatures. Were on this and the forecast coming up. Were breaking for you right now. Just in, the latest weekly jobless numbers 1 million americans applied for firsttime claims thats down slightly from last week and match experts forecasts. Another 14 million americans filed continuing claims. Decision 2020 and tonight marks the final night of the Republican National convention. President trump will deliver his nomination acceptance speech. Also speaking tonight, ben carson, senate mu yajority lead Mitch Mcconnell and ivanka trump. Mike pence accepted his partys nomination as Vice President. Scott mcgrew, this happened a very familiar place to me in baltimore, ft. Mchenry. Thats right, yes. You lived in baltimore, visited mt. Mchenry very often. Star spangled place and it is the birthplace of the star spangled banner. That is where Vice President accepted the republican nomination. So with gratitude for the confidence President Donald Trump has placed in me. The support of our republican party. And the grace of god. I humbly accept your nomination to run and serve as Vice President of the united states. The backdrop to all this was absolutely breathtaking. Allamerican ceremony andfect there are huge, legal issues here. Using federal facilities or federal workforce for a campaign is skirting up against the law and certainly against american tradition. Now, pences speech contained a number of falsehoods correcting the administrations claims is what we do here but there was one that i want to highlight. It was not factually incorrect, but it was certainly misleading and it had to do with oakland. People like dave patrick underwood, an officer in the department of Homeland Security federal protective service who was shot and killed during the riots in oakland, california. That was a tragedy. It is absolutely true that officer underwood was shot at the same time demonstrationstrae taking place or demonstrating. But police now say his murder had nothing to do with the demonstrations. The suspect in the underwood shooting is a far right activist described by police as someone associated with White Supremacists and militias. President trump and the first lady were at ft. Mchenry, as well. Though they didnt speak and i mention the legal questions surrounding that location. President trump will do tomorrow as the first lady did, campaign from the white house grounds. Again, shattering political norms that say you dont use the power of the white house, the peoples house as a campaign backdrop. Other news, both Washington Post and New York Times was reporting it was the white house that pressured the cdc to stop recommending people who had been exposed to covid19 but showed no symptoms not be tested for coronavirus. Logically, those are the exact people you would want to test for coronavirus. If you have the symptoms, its a pretty good clue that you have them. Birx later this about that with morning and while i can invite you to the interview, i am open to ask her questions you would like answered. If you have questions for dr. Birx, send them to me publicly or twitter or dm and my facebook, as well. I dont go on facebook very often but i promise to do so today. All right. Well, continuing that coronavirus coverage, the fastest and cheapest Rapid Testing kit yet has just received federal approval. The fda is giving the emergency use authorization to new portable rapid tests from abbott labs. It gives results in 15 minutes and it doesnt require extra equipment. It costs just 5. Chicagobased abbott millions of those tests in a matter of weeks. Not once, not twice but for a third time the state senate has been shut down due to covid19. The Senate Session yesterday was abruptly halted when state senator brian jones learned he tested positive for the virus. That shut down came right before the senate was supposed to vote on several Police Reform bills. Now, its leaving lawmakers scrambling to pass bills before that monday deadline. And we continue to track the breaking news for you this morning. Thats hurricane laura wreaking havoc on the gulf coast. That storm made landfall overnight as a category 4 and the extremely high winds there and rain bringing damage to parts of both texas and louisiana. Today in the bay jay gray is live for us in lake charles where this storm made landfall overnight, jay. We saw earlier during your live shot you were using all of your body weight against that wind to stand up. Certainly a different scene right now. Yeah, marcus, that is significant weight. It has been a rough and tumble night and thankfully at this point we are getting a bit of a brick. Were still getting some pretty significant rain gusts at times and rain has stopped at this point. Well fin to see this as well as a bit of spinning of rain for the next couple hours here as the storm finally clears all the way through and continues to move to the north. It was a tough go, especially here in lake charles. The eye coming directly over this city. We saw winds of 132 miles an hour. Landfall, though, in cameron, that was the toughest go. 1 150milea surge there has really wiped away everything that was along the coast at that point. Well get a better idea of that and more picture as we go throughout the day. As it moved into the lake charles area, it began to tear away Different Things on the ground here including parts of buildings and awnings and storm drains. This just really tore things up as it moves through here. And it will continue to cause problems, even as it moves to the north and to the east as we talked about. And meteorologists are telling us, this storm has some staying power. Its not over yet. We could have 90mileperhour wind gusts up to southern arkansas. We expect millions of people to be without power by thursday evening and then we have to deal with possibly even some rainfall and flooding in tennessee and kentucky. Yeah. And, look, this is really going to cause some problems for millions of people as bill just talked about. Something that people are going to have to deal with all the way through the east coast. Getting back in here and i think a lot of people went to higher ground, thankfully, but getting back in may be tough. You have that flooding and not recede any time early. This is a really low lying area. And then youve got to restore all of the power. Hundreds of thousands just in this area alone without power. Thats going to take some time, as well. But thankfully things are easing up here and those teams can get out eventually and get to work. That is the latest live here in lake charles. Now, marcus, laura and kari, back to you. Yes, certainly. Jay, you stay safe out there. I know it can be dangerous out there. Kari, we saw there in his live shot you could see a lot of those trees uprooted there. You can tell how strong those winds were. Yeah. I know they were really worried about the river in lake charles. I wonder if they are going to see any flooding there. The only good thing about this hurricane is that its moving quickly. Look how far north it is and now were not seeing the high impacts there around lake charles along the southern parts, southwestern parts of louisiana. This will quickly move into arkansas and hopefully continue to move quickly, as well. As we bring it back home, were monitoring the weather conditions around all of the fires here. As were starting out this morning for the Santa Cruz Mountains, were in the mid 50s. Much higher humidity, but it will still be a warm afternoon as we reach into the low a80s ad expecting some 90s as we look at what is happening for our fires burning in parts of the diablo range and also further off towards the north as high temperatures today reach into the 90s. The morning hours, the best time to get more containment. As were also still seeing some smoke drifting in the air, but weve seen the improvements in the air quality thanks to the fog moving in. But for san rafael, you are still seeing some of the high amounts of smoke drifting in because of the woodward fire and then for the south county, were seeing some of the smoke drifting in to gilroy. So, there will still be some areas that have to deal with the thick smoke but the forecast over the next few days will be for some improvement as we get more containment and that marine layer also pushes in a westerly wind so as we go into the weekend, were looking at improving air quality, especially for the coastline and our bay area beaches. Today our temperatures will reach into the mid 60s in San Francisco and some mid 70s for oakland and up to 80 today in san jose. Its nice that we have a little bit of a cool down here. Some of our warmest spots in the valleys will reach into the upper 80s today. But it will spike tomorrow up to the mid 90re still in the low 90s while San Francisco will keep those 60s in the forecast over the next few days. Mike, hows it looking right now for the commute . Kari, still tough. One key section of the nimitz freeway. Two key sections and one because of this crash. Lets get to the roadways. Southbound 880 still jammed up and from highway 92 hit had brakes down to fremont boulevard where the two crashes just before you get there still leave at least one lane blocked. All that activity and distraction. Weve had a total of about six tow agencies notify it. The rest of the bay moves smoothly and construction crew clearing from oakland. Back to you. Thanks, mike.
