Parts in the bay area especially for the trivalley and inland east bay as we start out this morning it will be another bay with some warm weather for the valleys but staying cool along the coast. As we lock at san jose a nice quiet start to the morning. Temperatures in the low 70s. It will reach into our normal High Temperature with some low 80s today. There will be some spots that reach into the low 90s. Well talk more about that and whats ahead for the rest of the week coming up. Mike, how is it looking for the Early Morning commute . Its looking better because we had a closure of a freeway. The green sensors as you would expect everywhere, the Altamont Pass is where we had an issue. Getting in out of livermore, east 580 was closed until just about 20 minutes ago. Looks like everything cleared within the last 15. Speeds are back. Your commute direction just started slowing about 90 seconds ago. A little bit of slowing developing, laura. Over to you. Thank you very much. We do have some breaking news that were covering from overnight for you, a deadly shooting outside of a 7eleven in east Contra Costa County. Police tell us a man and woman inside a car were shot on buchanan. The woman who was the passenger was found dead at the scene. The driver shot several times, taken to a local hospital with life threatening wounds. Police have not released any information about a suspect or motive. This is antiochs sixth homicide of 2020 on pace for the number of 2019 when the city had 12. The worlds biggest covid19 vaccine study is beginning. The u. S. Trial that includes 30,000 people to see if that shot really works. Now californians will help in this research. This is from uc san diego. They will also take part in this. That trial is based on a vaccine prototype developed by moderna, a pharmaceutical company. Ucsd is one of three participating trial sites in the region. Experts planned to expect to enroll about 500 people. In the meantime in the bay area covid19 cases are surging. Alameda county now with more than 10,000 cases. The most of all counties. In all the bay area with more than 46,000 cases. Santa cruz is officially on the states watch list. That means that likely a lot of things will start to close if they dont remain on that list, or if they remain on the list. Eight of the counties are still on the governors watch list here in the bay area. The only one that remains off is san mateo. You see it right here in the yellow. Any county on the watch list for three or more days must close several types of businesses. Indoor gyms and churches. Also indoor malls and hair salons. Cleanup will continue from oaklands courthouse where protesters on saturday night smashed windows, spray painted and set fire to one of the entrances. Protesters targeted the federal courthouse. The night ended in chaos after starting as a rally in portland. Some believe the activists went too far. On peaceful people and the city of oakland, like i said, trump can play this all the way up until november 3rd. Mayor libby schaaf said we celebrate passionate protests, but oaklanders need to know when they attend protests after dark, they may be providing cover for agitators who are more intent on stoking unrest than advancing racial justice. Protesters clashed with federal officers and someone was shot. That shooting happened near the epicenter of the protests. Authorities detained two people. A victim survived. Its not clear if that victim it tied to the protest. In austin, texas, a driver who shot and killed an armed black lives matter protester saturday night is cooperating with investigators. They say the man who died was carrying a rifle, and the driver called police shortly after firing and then taking off telling Police Someone had pointed a gun at him. Gilroy strong the phrase showing the resilience of a community struck by tragedy at last years gilroy garlic festival. It started at the park which was packed with people enjoying the last day of the garlic festival. Nearly a year later the Community Held a moment of silence to remember the three people killed. The Group Leadership gilroy put on a small festival to show the community that in the wake of this tragedy they are gilroy strong. For the community and the victi victims families. This year instead of having a variety of garlic treats, the event had an aztec group perform a memorial dance and raise money for nonprofits who usually help out at the festival. No festival this year, but things are still full steam ahead for 2021. We spoke with the president of the gilroy festival association, tom kleine. Many in the community really hope that this years festival would be a big part of the healing process. But kleine reaffirming this is just a small hiccup in the process. I think that process is looking forward to 2021. Using our resources to get to that part and being able to support our 150 charities and have that celebration of garlic again. Thats what everyone is really looking forward to. The healing process is part of that. Cline also added that the community, businesses, and all the charities that participate and benefit from the festival are ready for its return. Of course we will have extensive coverage from gilroy over the next few days as the Community Marks one year since that festival shooting. At 5 00 the mother of kayleigh salazar, the teen shot and killed, speaks to our Damian Trujillo about the plans to honor her and the difficult year they faced. They will begin demolishing the pier 45 storage shed that went up in flames in may. It destroyed thousands of crab traps. The cause never announced. Shares of Major Tech Companies struggled. Tensions between the u. S. And china continue to rise. The dow and the s p 500 snapping a threeweek winning streak. The nasdaq posted its first backtoback weekly losses since may. In focus this week investors are bracing for a rush of earnings as more than a third of the s p 500 and a dozen members of the dow report their results. A lot of big names including mcdaelm mcdonaldis, pfizer. The smallest increase since late april. Analysts say crude oil prices are stable, and there is an abundance of supply to meet demands. And the dish network and customers have lost access to several local channels across the country. Well start out with our typical summer morning start as we see some clouds rolling by. The mist and drizzle keeps the city cool. Its hard to see whats going on out there. As we head to the south bay well see our High Temperatures warming up just a little bit more with a high of 83 degrees, downtown san jose, with morgan hill up to 88 degrees. For the east bay some 90s today. Another hot one. Then you compare that to observing. As we look at the coastline its in the 60s today, right on the other side of those hills in palo alto were going to see those highs up to 81 degrees. San francisco will reach into the mid60s today. A High Temperature of 96 in clear lake, but along the coast in the 60s in point reyes. This forecast will stay foggy along the immediate coastline. Clear for our inland areas. That means more sunshine, warmer weather. We are going to see enough of an ocean breeze to help us out just a little bit for some of our areas by the bay. Going into the forecast well see some storms fire up over the sierra but that wont have much of an impact on our weather. Our weather pattern doesnt change. Some slightly warmer temperatures as some Desert Southwest heat builds and starts to spread into Southern California and eventually into the bay area. A high of 90 degrees today for a lot of our inland areas. But then some upper 80s throughout the middle of the week. Coming down a couple degrees. Look at what happens this weekend. Plan for it to be a hot one for our inland valleys. Ill keep an eye on that. Mike, any issues . The altamont has changed and the other east bay issue is over in fremont. Lets take a look, green everywhere that you look. Watching south 880 at stevenson, a crash there. The update i got everything was off the shoulder. No major injuries and no slowing. Altamont, that cleared. A full closure that cleared before our show started at 4 30. No problem. The westbound commute typical there coming in to livermore. And were looking to the bay bridge. Contra costa county an easy flow on the approach and into the maze and the toll plaza. You can see the light all the way across the span. Back to you. Its unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. An open case of beer can be seen in the video. No one was hurt. New video, a close call for people who live in Southern California. Firefighters battled a brush fire that grew to 60 acres yesterday afternoon. It burned near a bridgewater neighborhood in huntington beach. Flames got within 100 yards of those homes. The cause of the fire not known yet. Back to work. State lawmakers return to work today in sacramento after an extended summer break because of the covid19 pandemic. The legislature closed earlier this month after six lawmakers and staff tested positive. Lawmakers now have a lot to get through before the legislative session ends last month that includes eviction protection and Workers Compensation for people. Battling more than just emergency calls. The newport fire chief thats down in Orange County says that ten firefighters and 11 lifeguards have recently tested positive for covid19. All of those infections happened through Community Spread and not twh while on duty. Orange county has more than 33,000 cases and hospitalizations and the number is rising. The county now on the states watch list. Today marks the deadline for the release of all children from immigrant detention centers. The judge first ordered the release in june citing concerns the pandemic is leaving children at risk. Ten days ago she extended the deadline amidst fears i. C. E. Would separate children from their families. The white house opposes the idea of parents being released. In San Francisco activists are planning to hold a rally demanding i. C. E. Follow through on the order. New details this morning for you. A new study finds california will lose two congressional seats rather than one if undocumented immigrants are kept from being counted in the 2020 cens census. The Pugh Research center conducted the study and finds that florida would gain one instead of two seats. Texas would gain two instead of three. Alabama, minnesota and ohio would hold on to the seats they face losing otherwise. I dont know if youve noticed, but baseball is back. Happening now for you Health Workers in india are ramping up testing amid the surge of coronavirus cases. Indias Prime Minister launching three new facilities including one in mumbai.
