I know theres a lot of anxiety in the general public and even for road warriors who have been out flying for years, their first time back theres a level of angst that they need almost be walked through the process. The planes have been sanitized we electrostatically fog every flight, every seat every Service Level before every single plane takes off the hepa filters are cleaner than the air you and i are breathing or the air you breathed in a Grocery Store or any other public venue we have space on our planes. We are serious about space we only book our planes to 60 full so theres a lot of space on the planes every middle seat is blocked on delta as well as the airports also have a lot of seats blocked. So from a customer standpoint and we get this feedback from customers. They actually see it a better experience than they were just a year ago ive got one data point for you. We survey our customers. Our numbers are important at delta and we take pride in the service our people put out our scores this past june was 20 points higher than the june prior. Weve already examined the flying experience. We realize people need some place to go. I think the angst is less about the airplane itself as compared to what youre going to do when you land the businesses arent open the hotels may not be there. The restaurants, the theme parks. So i think thats part of the equation let me ask you about masks. You announced earlier this week masks will be required on the flights by employees and travelers as well. What happens if i dont wear a mask on the plane . Whats that process like well, weve been requiring masks since the first of may weve been steadily and rather aggressively stepping up our enforcement of the mask policy you cannot board a delta plane unless you have a mask on. If you board the plane and you insist that not wearing your mask, we will insist you dont fly delta into the future. We already have over a hundred people weve put on that list. We implemented a new procedure this week because weve had some customers indicate that they have underlying conditions that makes wearing a mask dangerous for them weve told them you may not want to fly, to reconsider whether air travel is the right form of transportation but if they do decide to they want to continue to fly, we have a screening process with the university of pittsburgh Medical Center where the customer will talk to the doctor before they get on the plane to actually have it validated that they, indeed, cannot wear a mask thats the clearance to fly process. So let me ask you about your business now we just saw that youre losing 27 million a day. Youre coming off the worst quarter in the history of the company. How does delta survive this . How does the Airline Industry survive this well, weve done a lot at delta as you may know when the pandemic started we were burning cash we were losing about 100 million a day in march so for the month of june, just 90 days later, we got that cash burned down to 27 million still a lot of money, but a considerable improvement from where we were. One of the reasons weve been able to stand as together as an industry as we have is because of the c. A. R. E. S. Act and the government stimulus that helped us pay our people and ensure our employees will have their pay. Thats been immeasurasburns num. So the real cash burn for the company is actually better will you need more money from the government i dont know, willie. Were trying hard not to weve got a lot of opportunities to continue to improve our costs. Weve got almost 20 of our employees that agree to retire starting august 1st. We have many more thousands that voluntarily are taking time off without pay. The employees are doing an amazing job of trying to keep the airline afloat we need the demand to come back. I dont know if government assistance is what we really need what we really need is a vaccine, some medical confidence back in consumers. He doesnt get to go to graduation or run around this summer great as it is to be around the kids im sad of what theyre missing out on what are you sad youre missing out on just being able to talk to people and come home just live life like it was normal again steph, i feel you on all of that youre here with your three children steph, you actually spoke to an expert from the Child Mind Institute about working from home with kids whatd they tell you i did. Because like so many families out there, my house was heating up this summer and not because of the weather so i was trying to get through this one thing i learned specifically about kids is the is this thing yet. Elour kids understand this is our new normal for awhile and weve got to make the most of it for parents out there, i am not saying it is okay to have a showerfree season however, we cant sweat the small stuff. Pretty blessed that we got an opportunity to have our daughter come home. Shes the youngest of the family just want to make sure everybodys safe well, elizabeth and jasmine join us right now. Let me give a little love to jasmine. Its good to see you all of us can relate to this somewhere in our career paths we have the daunting task of having to work the graveyard shift. So as parents that have the young adults, theyre independent, theyre back home kind of wondering how we continue to encourage them hope that theyll be independent again . Really with young people, theyre missing out on so much theres fear, hopelessness really encourage them to have a space where they can share their feelings and validate their feelings and remind them of the Bigger Picture and this is not something thats going to last forever. The other thing i think is important is encouraging them to have safe social interactions. Thats with a small group of trusted family and friends get outside, do something physical whether its walking the dog, taking a hike. Lets take a look at the tropics since they are starting to get more and more active like weve been seeing, we want to first focus on this area of concern especially down near the gulf of mexico especially where theres a 40 chance it could develop into a tropical system right now its a lot of rain with that but its moving into warm waters. Another area where we have a tropical depression a little bit farther out to sea if this develops into the seventh named storm of the season, that would be the earliest weve had our g storm. It is forecast to remain as a Tropical Storm as it moves into some of those warmer waters. By sunday winds up to 60 Miles Per Hour but we have to see what happens after it moves just south of puerto rico. Certainly an area of concern the normal date we get the g storm would be september 16th. Everything is well ahead of schedule today in the meantime, we are looking for severe storms possible especially for the midatlantic region today with large hail and damaging winds out west its dry and breezy so we do have a fire risk still. And down across texas and into arkansas we could see some thunderstorms as well. Otherwise its just continuing to be very hot and humid thats a look at the weather good morning.
