The ongoing search has now spread across several states in the northeast. The suspect, police say, is considered armed and dangerous. This morning an urgent plea from the parents of a murder suspect who is now the focus of a multistate manhunt. Peter, from your parents, we love you. Please turn yourself in. Reporter the fbi has now joined the frantic search for 23yearold peter frandonia, a 23yearold student at the university of connecticut. Police say hes the primary suspect in two deadly attacks in the state. We know that he is armed and dangerous. Reporter Authorities Say this Surveillance Video shows him walking along the train track sunday afternoon. He grew up in newtown, connecticut where the sandy hook massacre took place in 2012. His family said he struggles with Mental Health issues. If anybody sees him, please do not approach him and call 911. Reporter the manhunt began friday in willington, connecticut. Police say he attacked two men with an edged weapon killing a 62yearold man. He loved his family more than anything else. Reporter nearby on sunday morning, another man said he held him captive before fleeing with several guns, a truck and some food according to police. They have to get him. They have to catch him. He cant get away with it. Reporter Authorities Say he then went to derby, connecticut where he alleged killed 23yearold nicholas isil, and left in a car with a tribute to sandy hook on the back. While we are in the middle of a pandemic, doctors at new yorks memorial sloankettering cancer center, they want to remind us cancer does not take a break nbcs senior legal and investigative correspondent Cynthia Mcfadden joins us with a first look inside the famed hospital since all of this started. Cynthia, good morning. Reporter good morning. The folks at memorial sloankettering are doing everything they can possibly do to keep both their vulnerable patients as well as their staff safe during all of this. They are now back to about 60 of where they were before the pandemic struck, 1,400 telemedicine visits a day. Before we get into all of that, we want you to meet somebody that just inspired us so much. I have a feeling youre going to feel the same way. 27yearold eliza paris. I was diagnosed in 2018 with metastatic appendix cancer. Reporter it was stage 4, radical surgery needed to remove her appendix, gallbladder, spleen, ovaries, and part of her colon. She calls this the mother of all surgeries. But she got to ring the i survive cancer gong at one of the nations premier cancer hospitals, memorial sloankettering in new york city her cancer was a thing of the past but within a year, devastating news the cancer was back, and so was the chemo. It was heartbreaking. Reporter just when it seemed things couldnt get much worse, another curveball. I thought i tackled everything i could tackle in my lifetime, then comes a pandemic where i live in new york city in the epicenter. Reporter her chemo stopped the virus too much of a threat to her already compromised immune system. So she left her job on wall street and headed home to her parents in atlanta when the unthinkable happened eliza got covid19 her system crashed and she spent eight days near death in the icu. I was in sepsis, i was in kidney failure, and i didnt have any oxygen. Reporter you have sepsis, corona, and are battling cancer. Yeah. I had the trifecta. Reporter but once again, eliza survived Everything Else may have come to a halt during the pandemic but cancer did not take a holiday. We had completely shut down this o. R. And converted every room to potential icu care. The doctor runs the largest Cancer Surgery Program in the country here at memorial usually they do 110 plus surgeries a day. The pandemic drove that number down to only about 20, leading to some very hard choices. Ties went to kids if we had a child coming on, chemotherapy, theres almost nothing we wouldnt do to get that child taken care of. Reporter do you think that anyone died of cancer who wouldnt have died if it hadnt been for the pandemic . I dont think anyone who was on our list. Reporter but he worries about whats next. Routine cancer screenings have plummeted. Since march, colon, breast and cervix cancer screenings have dropped by about 90 . The real problem, were going to see people dying a year from now. When if people who could have been screened didnt get screened and now will present with advanced disease. Reporter not only does screening need to get back on track, the chief says, Cancer Patients frightened of getting covid19 need to get back into treatment. Whats the greatest challenge about really getting fully back to taking care of Cancer Patients i would say restoring patient confidence its a lot to ask right now, isnt it its a huge amount to ask because people are feeling vulnerable in many ways right now. For most Cancer Patients, really, they are much more likely to survive covid. So getting the best Cancer Treatment should still be a priority. Reporter patient confidence is not an issue for eliza paris. She drove 14 hours back to new york city to resume her treatment. Im currently at sloankettering getting my scan. Reporter meanwhile, the hospital she trusts with her life is coming back strong this infection is not going away we have to all figure out how to coexist with it, take care of people who are affected by the coronavirus but also take care of their cancer. Reporter a few days ago, eliza got some good news so that is me finishing my chemo round. Reporter elizas journey, back on track. An amazing young woman, clearly. She is going to have to have those 48 hour drips probably every other week potentially for the rest of her life what courage she has a final note from the pros if you skipped your screening mammogram, didnt go for the colonoscopy, now is the time make the appointment, they say if you have diagnosed cancer and have stopped your treatment, please call your doctor. More than one month after shutting down. All superior Court Buildings are reopening with new distancing restrictions in place. If you get called for jury duty, that means you do have to show up, but all potential jurors will have their temperatures taken when they arrive and be required to wear masks. We got a few free weights and we kind of run around back and forth up and down the yard and just try to make the best of it. Man it makes me it energizes me i was just thinking, you know, a lot of us would have been getting in shape for our wedding because its wedding season, a lot of us. Yes what are we going to do what is going to happen to our wedding dates . Nobody knows. Know nobody knows nobody knows. Theres no planning right now. You just have to kind of wait and see how this all plays out you know, its disappointing on one level. After the super bowl and after world of dance, after we finished filming it, you know, i planned to take time off, which is what were doing kind of right now. But at the same time, we had a lot of plans for this summer and this year, but everything kind of on hold right now. Are you joel and i are actually talking about the same kind of thing. Were not sure whats going to happen with our date do you feel heart broken or do you feel like its going to happen a little of both. I feel heart broken because we did have great plans im also like, you know what, god has a bigger plan. So we just have to wait and see. Maybe its going to be better. Each one has a little bit of small characteristics you can pick out when youre changing them when they are fully clothed like this, its definitely hard to tell who is who. Its such a long shot to have quadruplets without ivf. On top of Everything Else, you were having these babies in the middle of a pandemic what was that like for you guys . Yes so you know, we gave birth the day before the mandatory stayathome orders. So fortunately we were just in the hospital anyway, so there wasnt a whole lot to do there it made a big difference in regards to people visiting us at the hospital anybody being able to see the babies chris and i were the only two allowed to see the babies in the nicu you know, just a lot more of checking our temperature and wearing a mask all the time. So every day was a new protocol kind of at the hospital. It was kind of interesting we all started learning what was going on and how to address things together. We hear them. We do we hear them. The four men now charged in the murder of a Santa Cruz County tech company ceo are due in court later today for their first appearance before a judge. Authorities made the arrests last week.
