Now, it is of course the first weekend in the bay area where people are sheltering and working at home might be getting out for some fresh air. While plenty of people headed outside, others spent the day helping Health Care Workers. Christie smith joins us live from Golden Gate Park with what shes been saying. Christie . Reporter well, people are out today jogging and riding bikes, but in parks in fact, right across the street there is a sign explaining that critical need to keep a minimum sixfoot distance from people that youre not living with. And we saw a few exceptions, but it does seem like people are giving space. The embarcadero was a popular spot for exercise. At the farmers market, there were clear changes with social distancing in mind. Susan thompson liked this stand with yellow tape that kept shoppers on one side with just the vendor handling vegetables. Its the best way possible to try and assist with the social distancing. Tonight were learning one person in Sonoma County has died from the virus. Santa clara county is still the hardest hit with more than 200 cases. Now to an encouraging update regarding testing. A new test that can yield results in less than an hour. Thats what a south bay company says its new covid19 test can do. The company just got the goahead from the federal government. But who gets the test and when . Nbc bay areaary rs roz plater sunnyvale with some answers. Reporter the company is just behind me here. They have a long history of developing diagnostic testing. Theyve just gotten the goahead from the fda for emergency use authorization to distribute these tests to hospitals and to medical facilities, not directly to consumers. What sets this test apart is that it doesnt need to be sent out to a lab. It can be run onsite. Heres some video the Company Released this afternoon demonstrating how the testing would work. First a technician would collect a nasal swab. The sample would then be transferred to a cartridge. That cartridge inserted into a testing platform that could detect the virus. Now, in this video statement they provided, the company says the results are available in less than an hour. You take a sample, put it into this new cartridge that weve developed, and about 45 minutes later, youll have the result. That test can be run at the hospital where patients are being admitted. Reporter the company says it already has more than 5,000 of those testing platforms in use around the country. Theyve used them to test for tuberculosis and hiv. Now theyll use them to test for covid19. They would not tell us where or if they are in use here in the bay area. They did say theyll start rolling out those tests next week. Were live in sunnyvale. Im roz plater, nbc bay area news. In order to make it in the bay, Real Estate Agents are getting creative in how they give tours during this shelter at home emergency. In dublin, one agent has been showing houses through the lens of her phones camera. And with the help of zoom. He tested negative for covid19 and is reportedly being treated in the d. C. Area. Its an item thats hard to find these days, Hand Sanitizer. Now the makers of purell are facing some lawsuits. The reason why next. Plus is this our new normal . We talk to the man who surveyed people all over the world about this pandemic. When people think this crisis will end. And rob mayeda here from danville as we bring you the Weather Forecast from home. Talking about showers and a chance of some isolated thunder in your sunday forecast. Its just our way of doing our part. Purell its something weve been hearing about quite a bit in the last few days, social distancing. Well, heres a great example of it in action. Youre looking at video of shoppers doing just that at a costco in south San Francisco. You can see people really trying to keep six feet apart while they stand in line to get into the store. So when do people think this will end, and what are americans most worried about . These are some of the questions that were asked in a new global survey. The virus has spread rapidly all over the world, and the survey talked to people in 14 different countries. They were asked how they felt about covid19. The survey was done in some of the hardest hit countries as well like china, italy, spain, and the united states. Joining us live from dallas, texas, is the ceo of dynata, a Global Online Market Research firm that did the survey. Gary, one of the most questions you asked folks is just when do they think this will all end. Well see the other side of this emergency. What did they say . You bet. Thanks for having me. 55 of americans say that the pandemic will end within about three months. 75 of the americans say it will end in about six months. That compares to italy, where 67 say it will end in three months. And in china, the chinese believe that 63 in three months. But but 90 of them believe it will end in six months. What are people saying are some of their biggest concerns in all of this, in getting control of the Virus Outbreak . Well, sure. We canvassed the group on worries and anxieties, and interestingly enough, we found that almost every case, the younger populations in america were more concerned than the older populations. And i found that to be rather ironic because the images and the scenes that we see in the media are of youth on the beach celebrating spring break or maybe in general having more of a laissezfaire attitude towards coronavirus. But it couldnt be more distant from the case. It turns out the younger populations are more worried about it than the older populations, particularly as it relates to their access to health care should they get sick. My next question was going to be what do you attribute that situation where we would assume its the older people, but if its the younger people feeling more concerned about it at this moment . No, i think that it might be very much that theyre concerned that maybe in general the youth dont have access to health care or dont have the needs or the means as much as perhaps some of the older population, which might have it or its covered by the government. So its a big worry and a big concern in that sector. Gary, you spend any time on social media, as always, people yelling back and forth about the governments response to this. Obviously you cut through that when you do this research. What does your Research Find about how people feel about the governments response . Yes. We canvassed that very question about faith in the government. And in america, about 56 of americans believe that the government is taking the right steps and actions to protect them. That compares relatively well to the global population at about 59 . India and singapore, however, have the highest levels of trust in the government in terms of protection for them in this regard at 81 and 76 respectively. Japan and the uk, however, at the lower end of that spectrum, 32 in japan believe that the government is taking the right steps and actions to protect them. And 45 in the uk. In the few seconds we have left, have you looked at all the data, what surprises you the most about what you found . Well, interestingly, we looked at a number of things and one of the things that surprises me the most is its inversely correlated in terms of where people get their information and the level of trust they have in that particular source. Most people get their information from areas like the media and tv rather and social media, but they trust social media, for example, the least. Oh, very interesting. Gary laben, thank you for giving us insight into this situation. Thank you for having me. Lets switch gears now. Lets talk about the local weather. Of course rob mayeda is very local as far as hes concerned, meaning hes in his house. But hes got access to all the radar, all the computers, all the models, so he can give us an update on whats going on this weekend. Rob . Yeah, garvin. Were watching things here from danville as we continue our socially distant Weather Forecasting here. Our unofficial Weather Center in danville, california, were able to run everything off the laptops here at home. And powering through, the live shot youre seeing now with an iphone. So theres technology for you. As we take you outside and show you what weve got around San Francisco, partly cloudy skies. Look at the high, 62 degrees. It was a little mild and muggy outside today. Youll notice walnut creek got up to 66 degrees. Right now 63. In san jose, not quite as warm. We started the day with light rain at times. 61, and youll notice were still seeing a few showers off to the east around the foothill areas. We had some earlier off to the east in morgan hill and gilroy. Off to the west youll see a weather system that will increase those shower chances again as we head through right around this time tomorrow, early afternoon into the evening. We expect to see the next round of showers start to peak. For the morning temperatures in the 40s. Well see a chance of isolated thunder mainly south of santa cruz very early in the day. Then i think as we pass 2 00, 3 00, 4 00 in the afternoon, santa cruz areas south of san martin, one of the areas with the best bet of seeing those isolated thundershowers. Hour by hour, if you want to get outside briefly and maintain that social distancing and get a little exercise, youll notice that the morning is better for that because as we head through the afternoon, as we do see the chances of thundershowers highest around the south bay, that will likely be peaking right around the afternoon into the early evening. Now, rain totals we think will be higher around the south bay kind of like we saw last weekend. Areas north of San Francisco not likely to see a whole lot out of this storm. There might be a better chance of more rain across the bay area as we approach tuesday. Interesting to point out not only will this bring another foot or two of snow across the sierra, but it could be snow levels down to below 4,000 feet again. So we might see hill top higher Mountain Peak snow. Then after that, the rest of the week trends breezy and cooler. Maybe a chance of a few showers heading towards next weekend. The forecast tomorrow, the morning looks like the drier half of the day. Well see showers on the increase. And look out for that slight chance of thunder, especially around the Santa Cruz Mountains and areas south of san jose. A little more rain as we get into your monday morning. Then a break and some clearing as we head towards thursday and friday. So thats how things look from here in danville. Lets send it on back to you. Thank you very much. Now, while we shelter at home, including rob, rob is making learning about weather and science easy. Hes put together an online version of our weather teams visit to schools. Well, just like everything else, the sports world has come to a grinding halt, including golf. But one bay area caddy is trying to remain positive while trying to explore his more creative side. The bay area is a golfing hot spot from the exclusive olympic club to tpc harding park. And just a short drive south, the legendary pebble beach.
