Gilroys mayor announced overnight one person there has died from the virus. Were still not sure if this is one of the two previous deaths announced in Santa Clara County. Meantime there are nearly 165,000 known cases worldwide. The outbreak has killed close to 6,500 people. With coronavirus testing expected to ramp up across the nation, drivethrough sites are being made available to people around the bay area. All of this is happening as google launches a site to connect people to testing sites in parts of the bay area. Pete suratos is live in palo alto where testing is available right now. Patients will remain in cars and a doctor in protective gear will give the test and patients will give the results in 24 hours. All of this is happening, the new website is launched to locate testing sites in san mateo and santa clara counties. I want to show our viewers what this website looks like. When you answer questions about the severity of your symptoms, it will tell you to seek medical attention if the symptoms are severe. Parents who home school suggest creating a daily schedule, so your children know what to expect. Also get support from your School District if you can. Despite the pandemic, the Santa Clara County School Superintendent said its still okay to go outside and play. Physical activity, fresh air is really important. The Public Libraries have additional content and ebooks available. There are websites like scholastic and abc mouse geared towards children. Three major School Districts say theyll continue to provide free meals to students so no one will miss a meal. They wont be hungry. More local businesses are scrambling to try to find a way to know what to do since the governor recommends changes to bars and wineries. Shes trying to figure out how to better position her tables so theres a proper social distance between patients. Shell start offering curbside takeout so customers can still buy her food without entering her business. Shes looking at setting up a Delivery Service in addition to doordash. Lets take you out to the big board in new york city this morning where the dow industrials are down 9 , the s p 500 down 9 as well. Trading has halted just for a minute or two into the trading day. As the s p 500 fell that 7 that triggered that pause in trading, Circuit Breakers put into place after the crash of 1987 to give traders a moment to pause and catch their breath and digest the sudden unexpected news. So theyre not really serving their purpose, the Circuit Breakers, if they kick in right after the opening bell. Traders understood what was happening as the bell rang, they didnt need a Circuit Breaker to give them a pause, they had all weekend to think about what was happening, so in this case the Circuit Breakers are not functioning the way we had hoped. Cold up there. Do we see a little bit of snow . Rain continues today after an extremely wet weekend. Meteorologist kari hall is checking the storm. Yes, i went out for a while and could see snow on mt. Hamilton, but its only when the clouds clear on the mountain that you can see it. We are still seeing snow coming down on mt. Hamilton. For most of us the rain is starting to taper off so we dont have all the heavy rain we saw earlier. So we are going to have that potential of some of these scattered showers moving through. As we get a look at whats happening now, we are going to see our rain chances staying with us as we go into the next couple of hours. But it looks pretty good here as we continue to monitor the rain. And we will also have a slight chance that some of these scattered showers moving through may also produce small hail. We can see that storm system just off the coast that continues to spin just off to our west. Were seeing some of that lightning popping up. That will be a possibility as we go into the rest of the day. Lets go our by hour as we see in our microclimate forecast. We can see the spotty rain popping up, and this is where we may see some of that rain moving through that could produce some small hail. But for the most part were going to see the storm system winding down. Well talk about temperatures warming up and what else is in that microclimate forecast, thats coming up in a few minutes. The Tennessee Attorney Generals Office says a man and his brother bought 18,000 bottles of Hand Sanitizer across tennessee and kentucky. Caltrain is cutting Baby Bullet Service start tomorrow. Thats a service usually offered during morning and afternoon peak commute times. Sam transis switching to a nonschool day schedule. Buses will not serve stops labeled school days only. Vta is reducing light rail capacity. Trains that are usually two or three cars are being cut to one car starting today. B. A. R. T. Is doing what it can to help riders practice social distancing. The agency says its running longer tencar trains through San Francisco and monitoring platforms and stations to make sure theres no crowding. Stations are also getting disinfected frequently. As we take a live look at this camera over san jose, once those clouds move out of the way, youll be able to see some snow on mt. Hamilton. Thats also Something Really Nice to see. Here is a look live from tiburon. Were catching some break from the rain. Even the skies parting just a bit to allow for a little bit of sunshine to come in. We are going to see still some rain chances here and there as we track this storm system, a lot of it pushing east with some of the heaviest rain now over the central valley. Were going to have a slight chance of lingering showers as we go into today. But where we do see scattered showers there will also be a chance that there could be some lightning as well as some small hail that could move through. Were seeing some lightning popping up just off the coast. So were watching out for that possibility as well. And then as we go through the forecast, were going to see this storm system linger for a little while. Were going to keep those rain chances in the forecast for today as well as early on wednesday before its all out of here. Were also still seeing a lot of heavy snow across parts of the sierra. As we look at our hour by hour outlook, here is a look at how much rain were going to see today. Once again, its going to be very spotty. If youre going outside, getting some Time Outdoors with the kids, just a heads up that it will still be off and on in terms of the rain. So even once we get some clearing there will be a chance we could see some of those showers moving through, even going into later this afternoon, into the evening hours. But much less coverage in terms of what were going to see on the radar. You can track these storms if you have the nbc bay area app. Youll be able to get alerts as rain approaches your location. Really great tool as youre heading out. And still maybe going to work or going out with the kids once again. As we go through this forecast, were also going to see a lot of this rain tapering off going into tomorrow. So here is a live look at squaw valley. It is still really coming down. Its been really good to see those snow reports, anywhere from 40 inches of snow from over the weekend. And we do still have an additional five to six inches of snow in the forecast. As we look at our sevenday forecast, expect highs today to reach into the mid50s. Up to 60 degrees tomorrow. But once again, still a chance of those showers moving through. By the first day of spring, which is thursday, we see highs of 63 degrees, 65 and very nice for getting outside on friday. Saturday, also looking at the pleasant, 60 degrees on sunday, as we start to see our next chance of rain moving in. And for San Francisco, also tracking some rain chances off and on. Not a total washout by any means. But its been great to see in some parts of the bay area, even up to six inches of rain in the Santa Cruz Mountains due to this storm system moving through.
