If youre traveling down crossing the Golden Gate Bridge heavy rain there. Were going to see some of the heaviest rain moving through later this morning. As we take it hour by hour that rain approaching San Francisco moving into oakland and then the trivalley around 9 00 to 10 00 this morning and it will be approaching san jose. Also whats happening in the sierra in seven minutes. Ive been looking at your radar. Bringing us surface level traffic sorry, air traffic. Surface level radar. That wind and the rain coming in from the north bay will move across the bay right in the middle of folks dropping off in school. Windy conditions, the yellow highlighting and the deadly closure. We do have a live camera showing you the closure at skyline. You see the smoke blowing off the flare. Down to manor because of a deadly crash. You are talking more about that. Back to you. Breaking news on that deadly wrongway crash that youve been covering in pacifica. Still shutting down lanes. Look at the mess just after 3 00 in the morning. The chp says a Dodge Charger was going the wrong way crashing into a mercedes suv. The driver of the charger died at the scene. A passenger taken to the hospital. The driver of the mercedes also rushed to the hospital. No word on when the lanes will reopen. You see the heavy response by firefighters and rescuers. Back to our Live Team Coverage of the storm. Today in the bays pete suratos is live in santa rosa for us this morning. The last time we spoke with you it started raining right after that. Reporter and its not raining right now. We are feeling wind gusts here in santa rosa. Turn around and show you what were seeing. We have some slick roads because the rain has been sporadic. It could affect people as you hit the roads. I want to show you some video. You see the rain coming down in that part of town north of where were standing, a bit of rain there. Weve been monitoring stuff throughout the north bay or from the mill valley area up into santa rosa and the windshield wipers going. At about 4 30 on the 101 back out here live, unlike the last report the lane isnt coming down. You can see there are some slick roads there. If you are about to use one of the bridges to get to work you may want to take it easy. Any high winds yet . Reporter the wind gusts are still the same. Gusts 14 to 16 miles an hour. The winds are more sustained. Take a look at the flag. Were at ground level. The flags are higher and i suspect the winds are higher, too. I bring that up because as youre heading in driving up the incline you will see higher winds and why the chp issued a wind advisory. If you are driving a vehicle that has a high profile, a van or a box truck, you could get blown about. Something to keep an eye out. The gusts in the 14 to 16mileanhour range. What are investigators telling you . Reporter theyre not saying much. Theyre still out here at the scene about seven hours after the shooting was first reported. You see the crime scene tape is still up. It was reported around 10 20 last night on squeri road and clayton road. A witness told us he saw a victim outside a car not far from the quick stop in mt. Pleasant. San jose police tell us the shooting happened on squerpy road which is a road only about a third of a mile long and dead ends off clayton avenue. Theres a neighborhood there but theres also some sort of industrial type property. Squeri is blocked off as is clayton road between mt. Pleasant and mt. Mckinley road. We have seen people doing uturns and going another route. Sanders Elementary School is just down the block here. We dont expect the school day might be impacted by the investigation here because it is about a block away. Kris sanchez, today in the bay. Thank you, kris. We are under a micro climate weather alert this is a look eastbound i80 as you approach Donner Summit and this is where we see the snow going. The winter storm warning has just started and continues throughout the day as we go into the next couple of hours. Well see the storm system bringing the bay area some rain. Well move over to the sierra. As we look at the progress it has become a slower moving storm but it will still bring in the same punch with high winds and heavy rain even with the slower moving storm we will see at timtim times today very cold temperatures and looking at temperatures only reaching 28 degrees and another one to two feet expected today. Well be tracking that and how much the bay area rain we may get but, mike, you were saying with the live view in pacifica still that closure. And we can use the flares we saw here. It starts to gust and swirl. The flares are blocking off access. Folks have to continue as that car did. Well show you where they are on the maps. At manor drive, it happened after 3 00 this morning. A live look at the radar for you this morning and the Golden Gate Bridge, the story now north of the bridge where the rain is coming down. A live look in santa rosa. A bit of a break from that rain. You can see the wet roads as well. Kari hall has been tracking the storm. It has slowed down. Were not seeing the brunt of the storm with the heavier rain. The storm approaches from the north and weve seen the heaviest rain still off the coast and spotty showers across parts of marin as well as sonoma up to lake and mendocino counties. Weve also seen some rain now falling on the bay bridge. This is moving over to oakland as we get a look at the timing. Another 20 to 30 minutes before it makes it to orinda. Some of the heaviest rain moving into some of the coasts to the north on northward but its moving into santa rosa with the heavier rain already starting to hear the wind picking up there. A wider view and a look as it approaches. The center still off the coast and when well sea see spotty showers moving in this afternoon. Had is already a cold storm. As it starts in our north bay areas some of our mountains and hills elevations above 3,000 feet will see some snow coming down. Were seeing heavy rain and look at the time line. Making its way through the east bay and moving closer to san jose. And by noon to 1 00 were seeing the rain moving into the south county, some snow on mt. Hamilton. Were still looking at some showers coming down could produce some thunderstorms with small hail so even though the heaviest rain will have moved out that threat of thunderstorms for today. Totals from 1 to 3 inches and maybe higher in the hills. A slight chance of thunderstorms winds gusting. Snow levels coming down to about 3,000 feet. Were looking at two to three feet of snow. All of this moves out and well dry out for the weekend looking like a nice one. Well see temperatures back into the 60s. Mike, that incoming storm affecting the drive. Listen to this exchange. You dont need to hold to dump fuel or anything like that . Negative. You can hear the pilot saying no. The faa says that they had air Traffic Controllers known this they would have told the pilots to dump fuel over the ocean. Instead unleashed that fuel on 60 kids and adults on the ground. Aviation experts are weighing in and many wondering why. I hate to question their judgment but i personally and many of my colleagues ive spoken with would not have done it this way. The plane made an Emergency Landing after dumping that fuel. As for the people on the ground, some suffered minor injuries. A pie speed rail project aimed at connecting victorville to las vegas is hitting a roadblock. They expect the oneway trip to take 90 minutes in any direction. The federal Railroad Administration sent a letter putting that project on hold temporarily. The rail was originally projected to Begin Service in 2023. A Similar Service transports tens of thousands from miami to West Palm Beach every year. If youre looking to get out of the bay area you might want to plan a trip to Yosemite National park. What were seeing the winds rushing into the storm system. Out ahead of that main line were getting some light rain and some of the heaviest rain has been in the north bay so as we get a closer look looking at santa rosa and rohnert park, its about to get heavier. It will arrive within the next 25 minutes and continuing to the east. A wide view, you can see that a lot more of the storm has to work through the bay area. Were expecting not only heavy rain but high winds, some snow on bay area peaks and a chance of thunderstorms today. Details on all of that in a few minutes. Mike, youre updating that freeway closure in pacifica. Because of this crash we got into the newsroom early this morning, 3 15, closed down highway 101. A deadly crash. The driver was driving the wrongway and that driver has been killed in this crash. The passenger, though, in that vehicle and another person in the oncoming vehicle, theyre both in the hospital. So as we move away from that video that was what was going on for highway 1 and still closed because of debris in the area. From highway 35, skyline all the way down to where you take the alternate around that scene. Northbound those roadways is open but then we have that rain coming in right there along the coast and then along the peninsula youll soon see the incident with the gusty winds and the rain. As the cars make their way along cleveland avenue just off 101 south in santa rosa, the rain slowly but surely starting to pick up as weve heard from karis forecast as it makes its way through the north bay. I want to show you video from other parts of the north bay. This was just before 4 00 a. M. You see the rain coming down in parts of that town. You see it coming down in the parking lot area as cars were making their way through as theyre dealing with the weather. Now video driving on the 101 coming up here to santa rosa through mill valley, petaluma, all the cities to that point in santa rosa where you saw that rain coming down. How to work the windshield wipers. That is something folks will have to deal with. You could see the rain lighting up but still slick roads. He signed an executive order that would force state agencies to identify properties that could become shelters. The Police Commission wants Mental Health professionals to deal with homeless encampments rather than sfpd officers. This morning the chronicle is reporting the commission unanimously voted for a resolution asking mayor breed and the board of supervisors to reconsider the citys response to the homeless crisis after the officers continued to come under criticism over encampment cleanups. The rest of the bay shows a smooth flow of traffic. That storm where theyre trying to clear the roadway continues. Which is so great to have with the storm moving through. Lets get a look at that because i know people are trying to get out the door as well as making weekend plans. A look at storm ranger as the storm system approaches. Weve seen the heavy rain in central sonoma and a big part of marin county and were seeing that storm arriving in San Francisco as well. Thats extending to the east and will move within the next ten minutes to brisbane. It moves to oakland at about 7 11. Heads up that within the next 30 to 40 minutes well see the rain moving into that area as well as orinda within the next 50 minutes. Were going to see the storm system rolling through off and on rain today, even a chance of thunderstorms. As we head to the weekend, all of this clears out. It is looking better for saturday. In fact, ive taken out the rain chance because it looks like the storm and that chance of rain stays to the north of the bay area. Were looking good. Temperatures reaching into the 50s, even up to 60 degrees by the end of the weekend. We also have the womens march going on around the bay area. If youre going to be in san jose expect it to be at 52 degrees. A few clouds early but clearing out as we go throughout the day reaching into the mid50s and then we have perfect weather for the 49ers game on sunday. Kick off at. 40. And then a few more clouds by the end of the game. We also had the napa festival. Lower 50s by 9 00. Going hiking well see a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the mid50s for highs. Back to the breaking news weve been following from san joses foothills, within the last ten minutes an overnight shooting is now a homicide investigation. Here is a live look at the scene where investigators say this all happened around 10 20 last night. A witness told us he saw a male victim outside of a car not far from a gas station on clayton road in mt. Pleasant. The shooting took place a block away. So far no arrests. There is an Elementary School not far from the scene but it should not be impacted by the investigation. Governor newsom is reviving a project pushed hard by his predecessor. Former governor jerry brown. He supports building one tunnel under the delta to pump water to southern california. This is a map of where that tunnel would be built. Brown wanted two tunnels. The project will now enter a lengthy Environmental Review process. The environmental groups like the sierra club are opposing the plan saying it could impact the deltas ecosystem. The impeachment is now in the hands of the u. S. Senate. Impeachment articles will be read on the senate floor today, scott. Thats right. Every day, laura, bringing a bit of history. Today articles read on the floor of the senate, the chief justice of the United States, john roberts, sworn in as the judge. He is a kfb but washington insiders say the white house is nervous he may make key rulings allowing damaging evidence. All of this, of course, comes after house leaders delivered those articles to the senate yesterday. Two californians, adam schiff, zoe lofgren named to the team of impeachment managers. You can think of them as the prosecution. Lawyers for a republican operative named lev parnas. They show the plot to push the president of you chain to announce an investigation into the bidens. Parnas talked to Rachel Maddow and said the president knew. What do you think the main lie being told that you feel you can correct . That the president didnt know what was going on. Mostly the morning as far as the heavy rain but going into the afternoon thunderstorms for the bay area. This is a day long event here. Some really heavy rain moving into coast al marin and now crossing the bay heading to the east bay. Ive timed it out for you. Its just a couple minutes away from richmond. Hayward, you have about 20 to 30 minutes before it arrives at your doorstep. Thats the leading edge of the heavy rain as it moves in well have some gusty winds from north to south as well as from west to east and scattered clouds were seeing out there where we could see some thunderstorms near the center of the low pressure. All of this has to work its way through the bay area. As we look at the time line, 8 00, still the heavy rain moving through the north bay, moving into the trivalley as well as up and down the peninsula and approaching the south bay at 10 00 this morning and pushing through with some snow on some of our bay area peaks. 2 00, 4 00, off and on rain. And it gradually tapers off. It will be higher fom some of the hills and then a slight chance of thunderstorms. Winds gusting anywhere from 30 to 45 miles an hour. For the sierra one to two feet of snow. Our sevenday forecast looks much drier as the rain stays to the north. Well see temperatures warming up for the inland areas. Slow 60s. Well see highs in the low 60s. Mike, now that rain is a factor at the Golden Gate Bridge. The slick conditions, the water really starting to get into the lanes and pond up a little bit. Now here is the deal over here on the peninsula southbound highway 1 not accessible. We still have our crew out there showing you the closure with more flares being put out. You can see the rain coming down as the cars make their way through this mornings commute with that rain coming down.
