And the hardest part came at the airport. Another traveler we spoke with says they left at 4 am to beat the rush. The mothers involved in a housing dispute. After they occupied an oakland home were in court this morning fighting to stay in the house that s owned by someone else. Nbc bay area s thom jensen is live in hayward. Where those mothers were in court a short time ago. Thom, what did the judge has to say about all this . They say its the only way to keep their children safe. After court their attorney said Supreme Court decision regarding owners who abandon houses and leave them in disrepair, giving the women some rights to occupy it. Thats one of the arguments theyll make. Spokesman for the agency calls the women thieves and will evict them. People packed the courtroom and showed their support outside after that brief hearing. We need thousands of people to show up for the next court date on the 30th because this is important. Were not the only ones going through it. This is happening to us right now. Theres no right way to do a wrong thing. What these people are doing is the wrong thing. Theyre bullies and theyre thieves. Thats what this is about. Ultimately, theyre going to get evicted. You heard him shouting sam singer down. He said they will absolutely not sell them the house, saying theyre squatters and thieves. Hes saying theyre renovating the who us to exclusively rent it to lowincome families. I talked to two City Council Members in the courtroom and outside the courthouse today and asked them about that, whether or not wedgewood has been working with them on the housing crisis and they said they never heard of wedgewood having to do with the housing crisis before. And on this specific home, they never heard anything about renovating it for lowincome families until these two women squatting in it became news. New developments in the impeachment showdown, key republican senator now says she is, quote, disturbed by Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnells vow to coordinate on the trial with the white house. And from Plastic Straws to plastic cups, berkeley cafes are charging 25 cents for disposable cups starting in january. According to the epa, tiny particles of concrete dust can harm the lungs of children. When parents expeled because of what i did. Reporter School Officials refused to comment but sent us a statement saying they paid for testing at that school which showed air quality was in line with state standards for the majority of school days. Thats not good enough for many of those parents, who believe that their children are at risk on the playground. We took their concerns to the state school superintendent.
