[ laughter ] i mean, it was a wild day in washington today we heard testimony from ambassador Gordon Sondland, who directly implicated trump in the ukraine scandal. [ audience oohs you could tell it was bad for trump, because he did something he never does. He turned off the tv [ laughter ] and thats when you know its bad. Yep, ambassador sondland basically implicated trump, rudy giuliani, and most of his cabinet. At this point, trump grabbed his chest and said, i think im ready for phase two of my physical. [ laughter ] seriously, sondland named all of them. He was basically the oprah of witnesses. Like, youre going to jail youre going to jail youre going to jail youre going to jail [ cheers and applause if you didnt see sondland flip on trump today, basically it looked like this jimmy yeah, it was can we [ laughter ] can we see a photo of Gordon Sondland. There he is. Yeah [ light laughter ] some of you may recognize him from his famous line in the Princess Bride when he said, inconceivable. [ laughter ] the bombshell from todays hearing happened when ambassador sondland clearly stated there was a quid pro quo. Was there a quid pro quo with regard to the requested white house call and the white house meeting . The answer is yes. [ audience oohs jimmy the quid pro quo is really bad news for trump. Mostly because now he has to learn latin words. [ laughter ] i barely know english expecto patronum. [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause thats not latin thats not dont tell him dont tell him right after that, mike pence was on the phone like, can you send someone to move all my stuff in to the oval office . Thank you. [ light laughter ] but later in the hearing, sondland was questioned about mike pences role in all of this now, you mentioned that you also had a conversation with Vice President pence what did you say to the Vice President . I said, it appears that everything is stalled until this statement gets made. And the Vice President nodded like, you know, he heard what i said jimmy then pence was back on the phone like, um, on second thought, you can cancel that last request. [ laughter ] all day long people were calling sondlands testimony explosive. Explosive. I havent heard the word explosive so much since chipotle started selling queso [ laughter ] this is going viral, after sondland noted many times in his Opening Statements there was a quid pro quo, there was a brief recess and you could see the disappointment in devin nunes face take a look at this. Why dont we take a five or ten minute break thank you [ laughter ] jimmy the last time nunes made that face was when chilis told him it was going to be 40 minute wait, and then handed him a table buzzer hes like [ laughter ] meanwhile, after sondland dropped a bomb on trump, this photo of him went testifying went viral take a look. [ laughter ] i can tell exactly what hes thinking there swish, swish, bish [ laughter and applause steve dang jimmy overall, it was a brutal day for the president on nbc, chuck todd said the democrats were doing a great job building their case brick by brick so it sounds like the democrats are going to get their wall before trump [ laughter ] [ audience oohs now, im not saying trump is in trouble, but Vladimir Putin spent the day thinking, we better find new candidate for 2020 [ laughter ] start making friends with ramona from housewives. Earlier tonight was the fifth democratic debate. Going into it, biden was in first and warren was in second but after what happened today, the new democratic favorite is Gordon Sondland. [ light laughter ] steve oh jimmy tonights debate was hosted by msnbc and the washington post. I guess they tried to get the two things trump hates the most, but eric and don jr. [ laughter ] no, but its, like, it was amazing to think that i have been a member of the grand ole opry for 50 years. And so, of course, we had to do a special. We have a lot of wonderful artists that performed jimmy how do you even choose the songs i mean, you have, like youve written, like, over 3,000 songs. Well, i only chose the my main ones. I did, like, a 30 minute segment. But we had other artist featured not just on my songs, but their songs as well. So they did it at the new auditorium the new opry but i went back to the old ryman and did a lot of narration. Narration to kind of go back and forth to the things i sang hank liams senior song. So long to a capella at the old opry jimmy i could cry. Oh, my god so i kind of tell stories about the old of the old days when i started. And they show a lot of footage and pictures of the old days and then we go back to the new opry jimmy and you do go to hits you do, like, 9 to 5. Yeah, actually i started out with 9 to 5. Jimmy you got to do 9 to 5, yeah i mean, i love yeah, you know, 9 to 5. I know, i love it too. Jimmy youve got to give the hits, right . I know, cause thats the one we have to, you know, we started out with a with a a bang you guys know 9 to 5 . [ cheers and applause you want to sing a little bit of that with me . 9 to 5. Jimmy yeah, thats perfect oh, my god but anyway jimmy i never heard anyone play their nails before. And i actually played it [ laughter ] jimmy im just in kind of a shock. I played it on the actual record and it says nails by dolly on the album. [ laughter ] but, anyways, thank you guys you know that one. Jimmy it wasnt bad. It was fun. Jimmy and if you open with that, what do you close with well, i actually do a little bit of ill always love you. Jimmy oh, yeah thats the way i close all my shows i have for many, many years. Jimmy yeah and i say to my fans this is a song about love. And, you know, its very important to me. But jimmy its the greatest love song in the world well, one of them jimmy it actually wasnt even about love, really . When you first wrote it. No, it was about love but when i wrote it, i worked with a man named Porter Wagoner for years. Jimmy okay and i started out on his tv show and so i had said when i started that id stay for five years. But i wanted to have my own career and so when the time came, we were very successful and i wanted to go and he didnt want me to go. And we fought a lot. Anyway, cause i was stubborn. And he was stubborn. And it was one of those love hate relationships jimmy sure so, anyway, he wasnt hearing of it. And it was just breaking my heart. So i went home and i wrote this song. So the next morning, i went down and i said, porter, sit down i want to sing you a song. So i started singing it. He started crying. He said, well, you can go if i can produce that song. [ laughter ] so he did. Jimmy wow, got you good right there. And the rest was history. Jimmy oh, my gosh. But i always close my shows with it. Jimmy i think but you were before you were dolly parton, we all know you. I think you were always a famous local celebrity werent you . Yeah, i actually started singing on local radio and television before we even owned a tv but from the time i was 10 to i was, like, 13, you know, 14, you know, i was doing that so i was like a little local celebrity. Jimmy really yeah. Jimmy and what would you what was it like being well, it was fun cause everybody knew me. We were still poor but, you know, being on tv, people just think youre rich. They paid me, like, about 15. 12, 15 a week. And so i would always take my mom and my sisters up to gatlinburg, tennessee. Thats a wonderful little town and id take them up to the pancake house to eat and so can i tell you a a story . Something fun that happened about that jimmy sure cause once when i took them up there, we were in the restaurant and so we were having our meal and this old man came over to our table. And he sat down. And he was just talking to us. And we were all laughing we didnt know him and we just, you know, we were all just kind and then so he finally he left and we finished. So i went up to the pay the bill and the man said, well, your grandpa left his bill here too. I said, my grandpa . [ laughter ] so that old man had come over and kind of scammed us and i said, well, that wasnt my grandpa. But i paid it, of course so when we left, i walked down the street and he was standing there at the light. And, you know, we walked to the corner and so i went over to him. I said, hey, i would have been happy, you know, to have paid your bill. You know, i said, but telling them youre my grandpa. And he took his Walking Stick and he started just beating me across the chest, i mean, just as hard as he could. Just wham, wham, wham, wham, wham and it hurt. Jimmy oh, my god i know. Jimmy but then what happened what do you mean what happened [ laughter ] these two big lumps came up. And now she cant get its a tight spot getting her butt through the door now [ laughter ] and she used to wear a d cup now shes wearing depends. And im proud of all the movies on netflix they did jimmy but theres a bunch of people, great actors and actresses, in the kathleen turner. She plays the about this old clairvoyant woman that i grew up knowing. She was psychic. And that kind of runs in my family also. Jimmy youre psychic well, my mother was well, i kind of have a little bit of that. Really . Yeah. Could you read my could you read my palm or could you well, im not a a fortuneteller. But i can try. Jimmy well, what does a clairevyant push the ball here well, its like well, lets see. I mean, i went into golden hour being so excited that i, you know, kind of made something that felt different for me and i mean, i just got a kick out of the fact that it was nominated with these gigantic albums jimmy yeah its kind of an underdog in a lot of ways. Jimmy of course it was it was great so, yeah. I mean i just, i truly jimmy i mean, when you first come on, everybodys like, oh, my gosh, im in love with Kacey Musgraves. They were like, what . Jimmy she was like, what . Like, this is, no jimmy no, it was this was great but then then you got last year, you at the grammys, you performed with dolly yes, yeah jimmy how crazy was that it just insane just literally roll my lifeless body off of a bridge already [ laughter ] like, i cant i just cant. Shes too cute jimmy shes just amazing shes magic. But ive always loved her since the beginning of time. Jimmy have you ever been to dollywood . Actually, i have. We went for my bachelorette party, this was a few years ago. It was a wonderful choice, we stayed in a cabin. My friends, they made a cardboard cutout of my husband. That was cool. [ light laughter ] no, but we had fanny packs, like, we went and did the damn thing. We had, like, air brushed tshirts theres like a pioneer candle making station there, which is i made like ten. And, yeah, no. [ light laughter ] jimmy you make your own candles and take them home yeah, you make your own candles. Eat funnel cake. Like, it was the best day ever like, i didnt want to leave jimmy how fun is that . And like, at every twist and turn, theres like a new dolly that youre seeing theres like a holograph dolly that disappears and she gives you an inspirational message, and then, you get on a roller coaster. Jimmy what the and its like what is this is jimmy i didnt know thats happening. Yeah, you have to go. Jimmy you have to do something at dollywood you have to go. Jimmy we have to do it you just keep hitting home runs with these legends you were on some show with Willie Nelson. You were singing rainbow connection . Yes, yeah jimmy with Willie Nelson i love both of those things. I love all three of those things [ light laughter ] and then, together, now its the fourth thing i love, anyways. Jimmy how did you get involved with that well, rainbow connection was one of the first songs that i ever learned how to sing i was eight or nine, and singing down in texas. And my song rainbow was nominated this year at the cmas, so i dont know it just kind of felt like this full circle moment me, you know, having that been one of the first songs i ever learned. Willie being this texas icon ive looked up to my entire life as a songwriter and for many reasons and then, we get to sing it together, and it was just like jimmy oh, dude, tears were definitely flowing but yes jimmy we actually have something very cool.
