Well start off with kari hall who is tracking the fire danger. Kari, it is hot already. It is starting to heat up out there and this is what were going to experience for the next couple of days. Hot and dry conditions and the hills will see those conditions really going downhill as we start to see those winds picking up. Our peak winds will happen tonight through tomorrow morning. As the red flag warning continues and then the winds decrease on friday. As we lookt where we are already, some spots across the bay area well above the normal high temperature. Were at 80 degrees in concord. And it is 79 in livermore and san jose. And we havent even made it to noon yet. This is where were going to head for the afternoon for our afternoon highs. Up to 90 in concord. 93 in napa and in santa rosa. Our winds are goodi are goin to start to pick up. Especially in the north bay in clear lake and already some winds over 30 miles per hour. And then as we see the bright colors that shows where the highest winds will be and mostly for elevations above 1,000 feet and then we start to see later on tonight into early tomorrow morning the winds increasing for the Oakland Hills as well as parts of peninsula and San Mateo County as we see those winds picking up over the santa cruz mountains. Going into tomorrow afternoon, it is still going to be gusty but we will start to see those winds calming down as we go throughout the day and starting to shift direction. Were keeping an eye on all of the cameras across the bay area. This is looking from Lake Berryessa toward the east and there are mountains and cameras on top of a lot of our mountains around the bay. So well keep an eye on that. Any small sparks will spread rapidly under these conditions and that is what were hoping to avoid over the next couple of days. Ill have another update on the conditions were expecting and talk about the relative humidity and how low it goes in the full microclimate forecast. Now live to the north bay and pete suratos. Pete, there are a lot of folks who have less than four hours now to prepare before lights go out and the outage is already having an impact on schools . Reporter yeah. And were standing in front of Hidden Valley elementary in santa rosa, one of four schools that will have an early dismissal in response to the now confirmed power shutoff by pg e and a complete list of the impacted schools. Were talking about four schools in santa rosa that are impacted by you see it there Hidden Valley where were at, Santa Rosa Accelerated Charter School and Rincon Valley middle school and Maria Carrillo high. I did speak with a representative at the city school and he said these are the four schools that pg e identified as being affected by this now confirmed power shutoff. So were in that zone. That is the best way to put it. Now on top of todays early dismissal, classes are also going to be canceled for tomorrow. So theyll be a continued impact for those schools. Now these shutoffs are being done as weve mentioned for the past couple of weeks due to what pg e said are weather conditions as it related to fire danger but could still be a burden as you could imagine for parents. In fact, we spoke to some of them outside of Hidden Valley elementary and here is what they are saying. Not a good move. If they are going to shut it down, they should give us a pretty good heads up. At least Everybody Knows and because we are working and we need to take care of the childcare. I think it is going to be very bad for the kids because every time the wind pg e turns off the power, kids are going to be out of school for the week, that is not good for the kids. I would rather have a plan. If the school is going to plan so i need to plan who is going to watch them. Reporter now with that power shutoff confirmed for this area, as i mentioned, no class tomorrow for those four schools. Hidden valley elementary and santa rosa accelerated charter and Rincon Valley middle and Maria Carrillo high. As far as friday school status, that is still up in the air. Reporter and those winds are already picking up out here. You could see why the Fire Departments and the forecasters for weather are so concerned. It is very windy out here. Weve seen gusts im going to guess like it felt like in the 40 to 45mileperhour range. Again keep in mind were at one of the tallest peaks in the bay area, at over 3,800 feet atop mt. Diablo but this is where the red flag warning will go into effect in four hours from now and lasting until tomorrow afternoon because of the high winds in the upper elevation and low humidity and as kari talked about the warmer temperatures. One areas that firefighters and forecasters are concerned about is east of where im standing. Were in co co county. And the gusts are forecasting are between 30 and 40 miles per hour. But again, were already feeling that because were at upper elevation. You recall a couple of weeks ago when we had the Power Outages due to the fire warnings. Gusts here in mt. Diablo in the 70mileperhour range and if you come back out here live, again see were getting some significant winds out here and were technically got even in the red flag warning yet so again you get a sense of why people who had to fight the fires are concerned about the conditions. Firefighters in Southern California continue to push to fully contain two fires that started this week. Theyre worried about hot, dry winds that are expected to intensify starting today. The monday fire in San Bernardino damaged three homes, a fire in Pacific Heights threatened homes, hundreds of those homes but firefighters in that case, they prevailed. At last check both were about 25 to 30 contained. Weher. Know were tracking the you see the red. That means were in a microclimate weather alert and that means weather is a serious factor for us here in the bay area. We just have to be careful. Last red microclimate day we had and the high fire danger we didnt have any major problems. So were hoping to have that this time around. And were going to see really hot and dry conditions. As we get a live look outside in san francisco. We have some mostly clear skies and the winds start to pick up throughout the day. One of the other problems is that we have had several months without any significant rain and we have a lot of dry brush. Especially in the hills. This is looking in sunol and you could see that everything is just brown and crunchy out ther so a little spark could spread quickly as we go throughout the day. Lets talk about the red flag warning. The first one start ating noon for much of the north bay until 4 00 in the afternoon. In the mountains we could see in our higher eva pea gusts up to 60 miles per hour. In the valleys and coast, winds more up to about 35 miles per hour. For the east bay, well also see this red flag warning for 3 00 and continuing through 4 00 tomorrow afternoon and well see our winds here gusting up to about 35 for the santa cruz mountains, the winds increasing later this evening. Red flag warning goes into effect starting at 7 00 p. M. And we could see gusts up to about 35 miles per hour. Were talking about it is already warming up for the inland areas but were still in the upper 60s in san francisco. In oakland it is 71. And 80 already in concord. So were a few degrees above where we were yesterday at this time and the rest of our temperatures for today will reach into the mid80s by 2 00. Some upper 80s for napa and santa rosa. Novato at 85 degrees. And we could see quite a few spots reaching the low 80s just briefly. And then well see some milder air for tonight when we have the gusty winds, our temperatures dont cool off as quickly and so were looking at more of the upper 50s and low 60s compared to some mid50s where we normally begin our morning. So were going to see a northeasterly wind coming in. A high fire danger and at times some of the gusts higher up reaching up to 60 miles per hour. For most of us in the valleys, we wont have winds that strong. But as the air descends over the Central Valley into the bay area, the humidity just gets lower and lower, just squeezes that energy out of the the humidity out and as we go through the rest of the day, were going to see our humidity levels dropping down into the teens. And it is possible that we could even see the relative humidity in the singledigits in parts of the north bay. So when we have dry air, hot temperatures, and some gusty winds, those are very critical fire conditions. And well see more of the same into tomorrow afternoon. But well see conditions improving on friday. It is still warm. Saturday also warm and dry. But then the winds pick up again on sunday as a front moves through and well have to watch out for fire conditions again. But at least the next time we are going to see some cooler temperatures moving in from sunday into early next week. Kris and marcus. Looking forward to that.
