Kari was talking about temperatures in the 90s here in san jose and other areas and the high winds picking up. Pg e could call for safety shut offs. Those regular flag warnings remain in effect for large parts of the east bay and north bay. Expect on and off North East Mountain gusts 40 miles an hour and sustained winds 10 miles an hour. Humidity very low, conditions are still very dangerous. Emergency sponresponders here a hospitals have trained for this. People are preparing at home making sure they have plenty of food, batteries and phones are charged just in case pg e is forced to do shut offs here. San Jose Fire Department saying its all hands on deck. If a fire starts, we send Additional Resources coupled with our alarm response to a fire to try to keep it small. Reporter 33,500 pg e customers in Sonoma County remain on stand by for possible Public Safety power shut offs. If conditions get worse, pg e could call for shut offs. Yesterday they made that decision before noon. A pg e spokesperson told me they will notify customers if power is going to be shut off. Those folks need to stay alert and ready. And informed. Look at these numbers. At noon relative humidity mostly around 20 to 30 . It could drop into the teens later today and the winds coming from the north will increase by this afternoon into the evening. In the south bay firefighters working to completely extinguish the reservoir fire burning in the hills. Calavaros road remains closed. Its about 95 contained. The fire was part of six smaller ones that started saturday. Another bay area city trying to figure out what to do with People Living in their rvs on city streets. Tonight one city council will consider a ban. Kris sanchez joins us live. Reporter the last meeting on this topic was this summer. Definitely theyve been working toward a plan. Its a hard balance between the people who are home owners who say the rvs clog the streets and the folks who live in the rvs. According to the city there are nearly 400 rvs that show people are living to them. The Fire Department has responded to complaints that the rvs are leaking or dumping sewage. Tonight the council will consider a possible ban on rvs. The city could offer a Safe Parking Program to be run by the city, but on privately owned lots. We want to make it as easy as possible for anybody who owns a surface lot in the city to be able to operate a Safe Parking Program. As kari was talking about, its supposed to get very hot, up into the mid 90s is santa rosa where were near 100 degrees in some areas of the east bay. That means theres a high danger of fire starts. Red flag warnings remain in effect. Those could affect power shut offs for 55,000 pg e customers. Those warnings in effect until tomorrow morning until 11 00. Were not out of the woods yet. Expect on and off dry North East Mountain gusts 20 to 40 Miles Per Hour and sustained winds 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour. Humidity still low and the conditions are still very dangerous. Emergency responders and others train and prepare for days like this since the north bay fire two years ago. Santa rosa Officials Say they have extra crews and equipment on call. People are also getting ready at home making sure they have plenty of food, batteries and have their phones fully charged in case there are Public Safety power shut offs. Some still concerned about what that could mean for them financially. I lose all my customers, my meat. I lose a lot of money. Its obviously great that theyre trying to prevent a disaster like that again. Reporter after deciding against a Public Safety power shut off yesterday 33,500 customers in Sonoma County remain on stand by today if conditions get worse. High heat and low humidity, pg e could still call for shut offs. A pg e spokesperson told me they will contact customers as soon as they make that decision. New this morning firefighters are on the scene in an Early Morning house fire that started around 2 00 this morning on randolph avenue. Firefighters say no one was home, but the house sustained heavy damage. Anyone living in Contra Costa County may feel the impact of two proposals being voted on in two hours. Bob, whats at stake . Reporter marcus in a few hours the Contra Costa County board of supervisors are considering an ordinance that would ban the use of polystyrene for restaurants, vendors and in food trucks. This would only apply to those locations in unincorporated Contra Costa County. It would not include styrofoam, reusable ice chests. Vendors would be able to request a hardship exception. Ironically the county will not recommend businesses use compostable containers. County staff says those containers generate more Greenhouse Gases than polystyrene. If this ban passes, it would not go into effect until may 1st. The board is also considering whether or not to support a half cent sales tax to Fund Transportation updates. The citizens have to vote on a measure at the ballot box. The board is considering whether to make a recommendation for it. If voters approved this, the tax would raise 3. 6 billion for transportation. Probably not. Why . No tax increases. For transportation . Yes. Why not . Even though it means more when you buy things . Sure. We can use whatever help on the roads we can get. I dont know if we should be taxed anymore than we have been. We have a lot of dry air coming into the bay area. Our high fire danger continues today with low relative humidity were seeing these areas being highlighted for a higher fire danger. Its going to be hot tomorrow with a dry shore wind. As we go into the weekend the pattern changes. The storm system drops into the pacific northwest. Much cooler air and a chance for showers. For the inland area were reaching 100 degrees today, 102 tomorrow. 86 degrees in some warmer spots. Mid 70s throughout the weekend. Its going to be very warm in San Francisco.
