That jam near the coliseum. Near the numbers that sound like the temperature range youre talking about, 66 here, 98 toward the bottom of the screen and at 66, we still have your right two lanes blocked by a disabled vehicle, thats jamming up traffic, counter commute unusual from the bay bridge through downtown, things are fine, then you jam up past the coliseum for southbound 880. That is the issue right there on the nimitz. Everything else moves nicely. Your commute of course takes most folks to the bay bridge, more folks to the bay bridge. Also north 680 sees slowing over the last half hour. Northbound 680 mtague expressway your two right lanes are blocked by as well as basically a delivery of a larger rig with big large payload on the back and half your freeway is blocked. Back to you. Thanks so much. 6 01 right now. Tens of thousands of people across the bay area woke up without power after losing it in the midst of the sweltering summer heat. The hardest hit was marin county. Thom jensen joins us in our newsroom. What is pg aying about all of this . So hot, a lot of people as well. We heard from pg e in the last hour, a Company Spokesman told today in the bay that they still dont know what caused this widespread outage. He says marin county alone had approximately 60,000 customers without power. Power went out at about 11 00 last flight. It was restored by about 1 30 this morning with no electricity, people had to go without power on one of the hottest days on record and in some inland areas overnight, temperatures were still pretty hot. Pg e is still trying to figure out how many lost power across the bay area, and says there are still small pockets of outages in some spots. Fortunately not as hot in marin county, where an estimated 60,000 customers as i said had no electricity. This is larkspur and you can see the entire downtown was still without power, just before midnight, despite the outage, some of the taverns remained open in the dark. Power has been out about a half hour now. Reporter did you see anything, hear anything . No, just instantly went out. There was no indication, nothing at all. Power came on a half hour before closing time at 1 30. For now pg e is trying to figure out how it happened and who exactly was affected. In the newsroom, thom jensen, today in the bay. Thanks so much, thom. 6 03. Another fire scare overnight in southern santa clara county. Weve got a live look along highway 101 in gilroy. You see just off of monterey street there. As far as what the work is that theyre doing, crews are replacing a 50yearold track component which b. A. R. T. Says will improve the noise level on trains and give passengers a smoother ride. What do i see . I think theyre terrific. You got to fix things. You got to do maintenance otherwise things break down. Well, it is what it is. It does need some improvements, yes. Reporter b. A. R. T. Hopes these improvements will benefit riders for decades to come but even with the buses in place between orinda and walnut creek stations during the track shutdowns, riders should expect delays up to 40 minutes and drivers along eastbound highway 24 should expect delays of up to 30 minutes. Reporting live at walnut creek, bob redell, today in the bay. Thank you, bob. 6 05 right now. Facebook are suing the company over a data breach last year. They say facebook failed to warn them about the risk tied to its single signon tool even though it protected employees. Single signon connects users to Third Party Apps and Services Using facebook logins. The suit stems from the companys worst Security Breach ever last september when hackers stole login codes or access tokens allowing them access to nearly 29 million accounts. All right, a lot of people probably wanting to get away from all the heat this week. Yes, but if we stay here, its going to come to us. This weekend we will have some cooling headed our way, and today we just have to make it through before those temperatures cool off. Thats a live look outside, and its still looking hazy. Its a spare the air alert day, meaning that we are still going to have unhealthy air quality in the inland east bay, as well as the Santa Clara Valley. A little bit of some smoke drifting in, the ozone and Carbon Emissions being trapped near surface level makes it unhealthy to breathe this air in, and this as kids continue their school and its going to be starting out in palo alto at 65 degrees, and its going to be at about 76 degrees at 10 00. So there they may be able to head outside and it warms up as we approach the last school bell for the day and before they k at all of our d. Microclimates going throughout the day, if youre planning to have lunch outside its going to be 93 degrees in livermore. At noon were at 84 in napa and oakland at of the bright pink showing extreme temperatures like we did yesterday but its still going to be concord, in antioch, as well as napa, fairfield reaching the mid to upper 90s, and then briefly touching 100 degrees during the middle of the day. Heading out this evening its going to start to feel better around sunset. 78 degrees in danville and san jose is at 77 so the wind picks up and we start to cool off later on tonight, and our temperatures will be lower for the overnight hours. So our High Pressure thats kept it hot is moving away as we go into the weekend, well see a shift in our winds as the ocean breeze returns, going into next week. There will be an approaching storm system for the Pacific Northwest, but for us, we are still going to have some hot temperatures inland, as that moves closer to the coast. As you make weekend plans, it is better, get outside and enjoy some of the Outdoor Activities, like the martinez vintage market happening and look at the high temperatures, its going to be nice, only reaching the low 80s for the middle of the day, and were up to 87 degrees in some of our warmer spots, after today, and on sunday were up to 84 degrees, and then were back in the mid90s next week. Also cooling down in San Francisco, as the fog returns tomorrow. Mike, youre starting out with the flares. 880 the nimitz a busy stretch of roadway. Southbound commute is jammed up right here just at that 66th avenue overcrossing. You see right two lanes blocked off. The updated app from chp, mickeys is 97. The tow truck from muckys company is on scene and that is good news. They needed a larger tow truck. There are two on scene and the two right lanes are blocked here, means you are for a couple miles, theyre slowing as you leave downtown pass by the f exit and head down toward the coliseum itself. South 880 is the stretch northbound, is just fine. Thats your normal commute ionut friday see a lighter commute headed toward the bay bridge where the metering lights were turned on but not until 5 35, about ten minutes later than they often are, 15 minutes later than they often are. The rest of the bay appears to be fine but here the south bay san jose we do have a problem northbound 680, we are jammed up as you head north approaching montague expressway where your two right lanes are blocked. Were looking at perhaps 6 30, closer to 7 00 before they can have that big rig cleared from the right lane where its been disabled and stuck there since about 3 30 this morning. Thats the problem, but look at over here, 880 headed up into milpitas is fine. Back to you. Thank you, mike. Time for you right now 6 2 1. More states linking Health Problems to ecigarettes. Reporter yes you can see how much dry brush there is here along the highway, highway 101 here in gilroy and thats where the fire took off and it took off pretty quick. Smo smell of smoke is still in the air. This was the scene when it happened about 3 00 this morning off highway 101 where east luchesa avenue crosses underneath. Ed the progressftuion was way more ser in south san jose yesterday where only firefighters stood between the flames and those homes near santa teresa boulevard. About 75 acres burned before firefighters could put it out and though about 15 homes were evacuated, everybody got to go home eventually by the end of the night. That fire was sparked by a car crash that brought down a power pole. In california, 95 of wildfires are caused by people, mostly unintentionally, so cal fire reminds us to use power tools to landscape only before 10 00 in the morning so they dont spark a fire, never when its windy or too hot the last couple of days and maintain your vehicle making sure nothing iind and creating sparks, so certainly if you have a crash or an emergency on the side of the road, dont pull in to the high dry grass. I talked with meteorologist kari hall who says there is no red flag warning right now, because the winds are very calm, but weve had a run of really hot days, and that has really cooked and dried out all of this grass and this brush alongside our roadways, and on our hillsides as well so we are still in fire danger and it is wildfire season. In gilroy, kris sanchez, today in the bay. Kris, thank you. 6 . N in a few hours an assault suspect is expected to be in court.
