Well, the shooters family also released its first Statement Today, saying they are shocked and horrified by their sons actions. They also offer their deepest apologies to the victims and the community. They said we have never and would never condone the hateful thoughts and ideologies that led to this event, and it is impossible to reconcile this with the son we thought we knew. We are heartbroken that he committed this violence in his hometown at a family event meant to celebrate the tightknit community we have been a part of for 20 years. Again, the fbi now investigating the shooting as domestic terrorism. The event must include the existence of a potential federal violation. It must include the unlawful use of violence or threats of violence. And investigators have to determine that a persons ideology pushed them to commit this act of violence. The mood across the nation remains somber, gilroy, el paso, dayton, ohio all dealing with tragedies, all united in pain. These communities going through what we went through just last week, healing and investigating. In el paso, its still an active crime scene. The walmart where 22 people were gunned down saturday morning. The immediate area, not just the walmart itself, is locked down. Today, a survivor described what happened. His 15yearold nephew, javier rodriguez, the youngest person shot dead in the attack. Im in pain. It hurts. But the only pain that wont end is the emoegtsal. Other victims killed in el paso include an army veteran, the parents of a 2monthold baby and at least seven mexican citizens. 1,500 miles away in dayton, ohio, nine people were gunned down in a popular i entertainment district. This happened in a bar in the 1 00 a. M. Hour sunday. It was a 30second shooting spree. Ohios republican governor turning anger into action. Hes urging the state legislature to pass laws requiring background checks on nearly all gun sales and allowing courts to restrict firearms access for people perceived as threats. We are angry. And they should be angry. I understand that anger. For its impossible to make sense out of what is senseless. President trump will travel to dayton and el paso tomorrow. And messages scrawled across east bay businesses. Take a look at one of those messages. It turns out the suspect was caught on Surveillance Video and a businessowner helped police track her down. Reporter thats how omid is feeling after arriving to open his concord business this morning to find hateful messages spray painted on the front of his store. In my mind, yeah, it is a hate crime. Reporter the racist graffiti was not just painted outside the International Market and grill, but also scribbled across the front of a muslimowned mini market and other places in the area, leaving customers and neighbors outraged and rattled. That feels really bad and its really sad that seeing those people having those mind and having those thinking reporter the Liquor Stores surveillance cameras captured a woman in the act. As we talked with them, the stores employees identified a woman outside as the person in the video. Theyre horrible people. When we confronted her, she denied doing the graffiti but Concord Police arrested her a short time later on vandalism charges. Now, this is another spot where some of that graffiti was written. Now, fortunately some of the workers next door voluntarily came out and painted over it. Again, a suspect is in custody tonight. Shes described as a homeless woman. Police say it will be up to the District Attorney to decide whether this will be charged as a hate crime. I can tell you the mayor of concord sent me a statement saying that concord has declared its commitment to being tolerant and inclusive. Another full day of deliberations but still no verdic mtn must decide if Master Tenant Derrick Almena and his righthand man max harris are guilty of 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter. Thats one count for each person that died in that warehouse fire in 2016. Thats in oakland. Prosecutors say the men were criminally negligent when they allowed people to live in the ghost ship and party in this warehouse that lacked safeguards like fire sprinklers and fire alarms. Defense attorneys say the men are scapegoats and that city officials failed to inspect the building. Deliberations continue tomorrow morning. A large field across the street from our nbc bay area studios caught fire this afternoon. Shortly after 1 00 p. M. Large flames as you can see, smoke filled the air in the field off fornorth 1st street a component drive. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about an hour before it spread to any buildings. The cause is unknown, but likely started with a couch that caught on fire and spread to the brush. Some Homeless People live in rvs in that area. They say the smoke did not impact any flights. A sudden move from the states biggest recycling company, replanet is going out of business and closed hundreds of recycling centers. Heres the bottom line, your curbside recycling service is not impacted, but if youre recycling your own cans and bottles for cash, you might be out of luck. Hundreds of scouts claim they were sexually abused as children. 20 of the incidents allegedly happened here in the bay area. That includes three in San Francisco, two in berkeley, one in san jose. The lawsuit includes cases and allegations never reported spanning a decade. And from almost every state in the country. It also accuses the boy scouts of america of negligence for failing to protect the boys and covering up some of the abuse. The boy scouts of america released a Statement Today saying in part, we care deeply about all the victims of abuse and sincerely apologize to anyone who was harmed during their time in scouting. We believe victims. We support them. We pay for counselling by a provider of their choice and we encourage them to come forward. Well, not so fast. The plan to cover up or take down this controversial mural in San Francisco is now being challenged by the naacp. The organization is urging the school board to reconsider plans to paint over this 83yearold mural at George Washington high school. Reporter raj, that mural is just inside the doors that you see behind me, and the last month the school board did vote to either paint or panel it over, and today the local chapter of the naacp voiced their opposition to that. Last week the district briefly opened the mural for public viewing. Images of George Washington alongside slaves working in a field and a dead native american have raised passions. It doesnt show the true contribution of africanamericans. Up at the top of the screen, a little bit of high cloud cover and lots of blue skies today. Just a touch of humidity left over from some more humid air we had yesterday. Currently were at 80 degrees. Well drop to some 70s over the next couple of hours. Mostly clear tonight and cooler 60s as we hit 10 00 and also 11 00. So once again we do have some bigtime changes heading our way. So lets get a wide look out here across the west and the number one thing thats happening right now is this system developing out here in the pacific. This has helped to start to push some of the hottest air off to the east, so not as warm tomorrow and eventually, yes, some showers moving in to northern california. l tho showe little bit better up here in just a little bit. Lets focus on tomorrow mornings forecast. I dont see any rainfall. Possibly a little bit of drizzle near the coastline with some fog. Also some of that fog near the bay and well have 60s for the south bay peninsula and also the trivalley. Best chance of fog in San Francisco with a chilly 66. As we move through the day tomorrow, lots of sunshine for the afternoon. Away from the coast, and i think the temperature drop is certainly going to be noticeable down here in the south bay instead of upper 80s and low 90s, were taking it down to 79 in cupertino. Out of the 90s for the east bay. 87 in antioch, 86 in concord. Back by the bay, 72 in hayward. Pretty much perfect in redwood city, 75 degrees tomorrow. San francisco stays cool with that ocean breeze out of the west at 19 miles per hour. This will put us at 66 in the mission and 60 for the engel side. More off to the north across the mill valley, 81 in santa rosa a ukiah into clear lake. Extended forecast into San Francisco really looks nice for the next day we stay with 60s. Showers move close by there on friday and we get a slight chance for showers on saturdays forecast, eventually low 70s na next sunday, monday and tuesday. Inland valleys will stay with the 80s. Well warm up through saturday with that shower chance. Lets take a closer look at this. Not a big possibility for us, but trace amounts to about 0. 02 of an inch. Maybe 1 4 to 1 2 inch here near eureka. Its a developing story. Were going to continue to finetune that forecast. Again, best chance of showers would be on saturday and then look at this, well start off next week with some hot weather. More about those shower chances coming up.
