Weve already started to see a lot more people out there on the roadways, and as we get a quick look at the traffic maps weve seen some slowing coming through the Altamont Pass on 580, and were seeing that backup there. A lot of heavy traffic as we see those Central Valley commuters coming into the bay area, and then we also have the onramp highway 101 on the peninsula closed at whipple avenue. Overall Everything Else is flowing well. Well get a look at that coming up in a few minutes. Breaking news in Contra Costa County. Major Police Activity in a neighborhood in rodeo. Today in the bays pete suratos worked hard to find out what happened. He just arrived there to the scene and pete, where are you exactly and what can you make out of this situation . Reporter were on third street and vallejo avenue in rodeo and look, were trying to gather more information. We know the Hercules Police are the lead agency on this. I want to show you in the past couple minutes, rodeo hercules fire just showing up to the scene. There is a police scene behind them. We know that on Contra Costa County sheriffs and Hercules Police are on the scene. I want to show you video from earlier, from one of our camera crews on scene, when there was a bit more Police Activity. As i mentioned this at third street and vallejo avenues in rodeo, a residential area where we see the Police Activity. An officer told our camera crew earlier that a shooting may have taken place in this area. Were still working to confirm that information with Hercules Police but video does show that i think were showing you right now theres a man handcuffed and put in an ambulance, so were not sure what the connection is. Obviously he is connected to something that took place here, but that is what were seeing, what you guys are seeing, thats the information were working off of. We take you live to the scene, you see hercules fire, rodeo hercules fire on the scene. Hercules police is the lead agency on this. Now to our coverage of the gilroy mass shooting and search for answers to why a young man opened fire on so many innocent people. Hundreds gathered outside of Gilroy City Hall to remember the victims of the garlic festival shooting. Many hugged each other and cried remembering those who lost their lives and those saved. One man was shot several times and pulled his best friends girlfriend to safety. My heart is grieving for families who lost loved ones. Im just happy my family is not going through that. We now know the ages of three of the people who died at the hands of the gunman. They were all young, ages 6, 13 and 25. Seven victims are still in the hospital. Its possible authorities will hold another News Conference later today, but thats still not certain. All new this morning were hearing from one man who says he came face to face with the gunman. Today in the bays bob redell live for us at Christmas Hill park with that mans story. Bob . Reporter good morning to you, laura and marcus. Law enforcement still has Christmas Hill park as they continue their investigation. That mans name is chris. He would not give us his last name. You can see him with his wife and 13yearold daughter. When we spoke to them, theyre from ruced county, here at the gilroy garlic festival to sell shaved ice. Chris tells us the 19yearold beganman entered the festival through a fence by his booth, started firing his ak47 type Assault Rifle into the crowd of people. Chris and his family hit the deck underneath a table, but chris did make sure that he was still able to keep an eye on the shooter while he was sitting there laying on the ground. When the gunmans rifle jammed and the ammunition clip dropped out, chris realized at that point, he better do something. So i jumped up and ran towards him, but i didnt make it all the way. He picked up his clip at that moment and he looked at me and said no. He shook his head and no out of his mouth came and i wasnt the hero. People died after that, and, but i thought because i stopped, i backed up. I didnt think i was going to make it all the way, and i dove back into my tent. Reporter chris and his family survived unhurt. They say the gunman didnt shoot in his direction, instead he headed toward where the kids were at at the slide area. Moments later three Gilroy Police officers shot and killed the suspect. Police say they responded within a minute of the start of the shooting. Chris tells us that when the gunman was alive, he appeared to be at peace, was calm, cool, smiling, didnt appear to be in a hurry. Authorities meantime in nevada still looking to what connection the gunman had to a home there and if someone tied to the home may have actually been involved. The gunman grew up in gilroy, but its believed he spent at least some time in nevada. Yesterday fbi investigators searched a home about 75 miles outside of reno, where investigators say he may have recently lived. So far we dont know what kind of evidence investigators there may have gathered. We are also getting a look at the gun shop where the gunman purchased his Assault Rifle. Its located inside a nevada home. Its called big mikes guns and ammo, and its a legal authorized gun dealer. The gunman used an akstyle Assault Rifle and bought it for about 700 and even though he legally bought the gun in nevada, the Assault Rifle is not legal here in california. The owner of the gun store, big mike, posted an apology on facebook. He says hes heartbroken and that the shooter ordered the rifle off of his internet page. In fact, lets get a look at all of our microclimates and go hour by hour. We take it to 9 00, in livermore at 62 degrees. Well also be in the low 60s in the north bay and novato. At lunch time, were seeing mostly 60s and 70s, so danville is at 70 degrees. San jose is at 73 degrees, and then some cool air still along the coast. Half moon bay will stay in the lower 60s today. While we reach the low 80s in fairfield during that evening commute. Windows down and then this evening cools off fast. If youre going out for dinner, make sure you have a jacket. As we check out the rest of the forecast, we have these cooling changes ahead as High Pressure continues to move away from us, and then well also see this storm system approaching the pacific northwest. So as this starts to move in, we will have some cooler air, and the fog near the coastline here, and so with that breezy wind kicking up and bringing that coastal fog and that ocean breeze in, its going to cool down even our valleys but High Pressure is does start to build as we go into the weekend, so thats going to make some of those inland areas warm up a few more degrees. Checking out our sevenday forecast, we have a lot of mid 80s here throughout the week but look at what happens on saturday and sunday. Once again, that High Pressure moving in, so our valleys are going to be heating up. Were talking low 90s here, not tripledigits, so thats the good news. We see a fairly smooth flow of traffic but i wanted to show you whats happening now at the bay bridge, as we are starting to see a lot more slowing here, and its because there is a traffic hazard at the Treasure Island offramp, so thats causing a lot of people to slow down. We also have our usual slowdown coming on grant line road on 580. There say lot of heavy traffic coming through the Altamont Pass. And then we also are seeing on the peninsula, we have some construction traffic earlier, the onramp was closed, but i think things are flowing fairly well past that point and our south bay drive times are looking good, northbound 101 on highway 85 to highway 87 will take but 12 minutes. I understand we cant help out and assist so do my part, got to feed the guys who are actually helping us out. Prep meals owner says he will feed the volunteers and First Responders today. Thats where a onetime rape victim plans to file a Supreme Court petition against the San Francisco Police Department. She claims her kit was never processed, she reported the rape in 2010. As you get out on the roads checking out the overall map we have a smooth flow of traffic across the south bay. In the trivalley we are seeing a little bit of a slowdown on westbound 84, looking at vallecitos road. If youre going to be headed out that way, and we also see that the roads are flowing a little bit slower coming through the Altamont Pass at grant line road westbound 580 is really starting to back up. This morning understandably the city remains in shock. And many people grieving for the loss of so many people and really trying to make sense of what happened. I remember you and i feel hundreds of people gathering outside out of Gilroy City Hall to remember the victims of the garlic festival shooting. Its possible authorities will hold another News Conference later today but thats not certain. As for the seven victims in the hospital its likely all still have a long road to recovery. Today in the bays ali wolf is live at san joses Valley Medical Center with more details on those that survived and sadly those that did not. Ali . Reporter good morning, laura. Five of the victims are here at Valley Medical Center recovering from their injuries at the garlic festival over the weekend, and were also hearing some pretty incredible and terrifying stories of survival from that shooting, but first, we want to get to the victims that died. We know all of their names this morning, and we also are going to show you their pictures. The oldest is 25yearold trevor irby. He recently graduated from a college in upstate new york. 13yearold Kayla Salazar from san jose also died. She got separated from her family during the panic of that shooting. The third victim is 6yearold stephen romero. His mother and grandmother were also shot. In an interview last night his father got emotional explaining how he tried to say a final goodbye to his son. It was important for me to say goodbye to him, spend the time that he was going to be up there in the hospital until they transported him to the morgue. I wanted to make sure i knew where he went and who has taken him and just like no parent would think their son was alive still. I still cant believe that hes dead. Hes only 6 years old, you know . He had a whole lot more to live more, to enjoy, to learn. Now hes gone. Reporter it is just so heartbreaking. We have also learned about two more victims who actually survived. A husband and wife running a booth at the festival, they actually got into a confrontation with the gunman before getting shot, according to a Family Member who tells us the suspect calmly asked them, are you okay . And they played dead. Coming up in the next hour, youll hear more from that Family Member own more on that couples story. For now were live in san jose, ali wolf for today in the bay. So heartbreaking that fathers loss. Thank you very much. Governor newsom visited shooting victims yesterday at Valley Medical Center. Among them leslie andres. The 12yearold was separated from her family when the gunman attacked. The governor expressed his sadness and frustration over what happened in gilroy. The idea that a 12yearold that i just met was shot in the leg, she was describing she was on a jumpy house at a garlic festival. The governor is urging the white house to act clearly and convincingly for tougher gun laws. The fbi is reaching out to anyone who can help put together what happened during that mass shooting in gilroy. Agents are asking for photos and videos to assist in the investigation. Theres said to be some major Police Activity in a neighborhood in rodeo. Pete suratos is there live for us. Pete, i know you got some new information for us this morning. So what did you find out . Reporter yeah, good morning to you, guys. As you can see behind me the scene cleared in rodeo. We got new information from Hercules Police, the lead agency, as far as what took place. I want to show our viewers some of the video of when that scene was taking place here this morning. Accog to Hercules Police theyre saying this was a car pursuit that ended in a crash at a dead end at where were standing. Theyre saying the driver was first pulled over near Willow Avenue for what they called the vehicle code violation that led to a pursuit near third street and vallejo avenues. The driver crashes at the dead end on vallejo avenue, foot pursuit, then takes place and the driver is eventually arrested by police. They said an officer did fire at the driver but we believe he may have had a gun on his waistband. The man threw whatever object was in his waist into the bushes, but police werent able to find any objects so far. Now that man was taken to a hospital by ambulance for some injuries or potential injuries as you saw on that video but he will now be booked in a county jail. Developing right now in antioch, Police Investigating a shooting involving workers at a popeyes restaurant. It happened about 6 00 last night on lone tree way near hillcrest. The employee who was shot was air lifted from the scene. So far theres no update on their condition. Police later arrested the man says was the shooter at the suspects home. Neither the victim nor suspect are being identified. This morning italian prosecutors are revealing new details about the two bay area teens accused of a deadly stabbing of an officer. They just wrapped up a News Conference moments ago saying security cameras were used to trace two teens at a hotel just 250 feet away from the scene. That stabbing apparently stemmed from a fight with plain clothed officers following a drug deal gone bad. Prosecutors released the photo of the knife they say was used. 18yearold Gabriel Hjorth and finnegan elder, both of mill valley, confessed to the murder during separate interrogations. Both are stormer Tamalpais High School students. Another study showing how hard it issor home buyers to crack into the bay area market. Home prices in the bay area climbed four times faster than local income. Clever real estate says that means a typical family needs nearly nine times the average Household Income to buy a home. Headed through the south bay, once again northbound 101 on highway 85 to highway 87, about 15 minutes. Northbound 87 from 85 to 101 takes you about ten minutes, and were seeing those delays in mass transit. None right now. Everything is looking pretty good as you get ready to head out, whether youre riding b. A. R. T. Or going to be driving this morning and so of course, its good start to this tuesday, and were already looking ahead to the weekend. Oh, the weekend. Because thats what we do. Thats what we do, making weekend plans. Drive toward the weekend. Were going to start to warm up a few more degrees going into the weekend after enjoying a nice little break from the high heat. It was so warm this past weekend and were going to be back into those low 80s as you head out there for a hike, mostly sunny skies. In the trivalley, we are also going to have some warm weather, with some low 90s. The warmest day on saturday, with sunshine reaching 92 degrees, but well have some cool air in Carmel Valley and carmel by the sea will be nice with upper 70s in the valley, and mostly sunny skies. The gunman Santino William legan was shot and killed by police. Its possible authorities will hold another News Conference later today but that is still not certain. The man Authorities Say targeted Family Members in Southern California shooting rampage last friday has pleaded not guilty. Authorities say that suspect shot and killed his father and brother, along with injuring his mother before moving on to his exgirlfriend. He then allegedly killed someone he didnt know on a bus. Family friends now say that the suspect had a big drug problem. If convicted, he could face the death penalty. An antioch man who cared for children for 18 years anow is ccused of sexual abuse. The contra costa dmplt a. s office accused simon chavez and his 31yearold son also named simon. Both pleaded not guilty in the case. Prosecutors are not yet saying how many children were abused. California will receive 70 million in a socalled pay for delay drug settlement, deva pharmaceutical also pay nearly the entire amount along with three other companies. The state accused each of delaying drugs to keep prices artificially high. Deva is accused of keeping a necropsy drug off the market for six years. One of the president s closest allies is defending his honor this morning. This after Washington Post columnist accused Mitch Mcconnell of doing the russians bidding. Senate majority leader himself, laura, who is angry about that accusation and tth the moscowmitch. Here is the most powerful manfu accused of helping the russians. Over the last several days i was called unpatriotic, unamerican, and essentially treasonous by a couple of left wing pundits on the basis of boldfaced lies. I was accused of aiding and abetting the very man ive singled out as an adversary and opposed for nearly 20 years, vladimir putin. The accusations come after mcconnell prevented the senate from even thinking about two bills, one that would require campaigns to alert the fbi if theyre offered help from russian countries, for instance, the russians. Mcconnells blocking of the bills that cant even be debated comes as a bipartisan report from the very same senate says were facing serious attacks on our voting system. He leads 17 intelligence agencies ringing the alarm bell, but coats is stepping down. The president wants to replace coats with this man, john ratcliffe, who called the Russian Investigation a hoax. Its quite possible the nomination wont get past the senate. President trumps gone back and forth on whether he believes the fbi, the nsa, the cia, the Senate Intelligence committee that russians violated our elections. He famously told a reporter who asked him that question at a summit in helsinki he asked putin if he interfered and putin told him no. Tonight marks the start of another democratic debate. As the storm system approaches the pacific northwest, all throughout the week well have a strong ocean breeze, and coastal fog, but that heat does start to build, getting closer to the weekend as the High Pressure starts to come back, and then also checking out the pacific, theres two tropical systems out there, flossie and erick. If you have plans to go to hawaii, flossie may be a problem throughout the week. Ill keep an eye on that. We have some mid 80s in the forecast inland. It will be a slightly warmer weekend but we are staying cool on the coast with some upper 60s and as we get a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, the metering lights were turned on early this morning. Theres already a big backup, allow extra time to get through there. Looking at the roads on our maps, we do see a fairly good drive across much of the bay area, just starting to slow down in a few spots like once again the bay bridge, as weve seen major delays there. So if youre approaching or seeing a lot of red sensors, we also have a crash on westbound 580, coming through the Altamont Pass near grant line road that may slow down the commuters coming into the bay area within the next few minutes.
