That happened about 3 30 this morning on north temple drive near east calaveras boulevard but it all started around 11 30 last night when a woman was attacked with a large knife just down the street from here. When officers arrived at the suspects home to question him, he refused to come out. After four hours we were able to finally make contact with him through a window at the apartment. He refused to come out and our s. W. A. T. Team members were able to make entry into his room and safely take him into custody. Reporter the woman who was attacked earlier is going to be okay. She has nonlifethreatening injuries so it was a large knife in that attack. The suspect is being questioned as we speak. Well see a high of 76 in san mateo this afternoon, and for San Francisco again were back in the lower 60s, but much more sunshine today, and a high of 90 degrees in ukiah, while santa rosa reaches the upper 70s. Well see a high of 79 in napa today, but of course that big story has been the high heat theyve been feeling across much of the country. This is a look at the high temperatures for today, reaching the upper 90s and twothirds of the country, and then also heat index values in some spots over 110 degrees. He died in 2014 after suffering a blood clot on board a southwest flight from oakland to southern california. The Orange County sheriffs report says the Flight Attendant heard her groaning and crying in the restroom. His widow said he ended up dying the next day. The Flight Attendant didnt do her job. Later this morning the city of oakland will face off against the Oakland Raiders in court, regarding the teams decision to move to vegas. However, the raiders have an unexpected ally, the city isnt too pleased about. Today in the bays pete suratos joins us live with the details this morning. Pete . Reporter good morning, guys. That unexpected ally is the department of justice siding with the Oakland Raiders when it comes to the lawsuit. The city of oakland is not too pleased about it. Lets talk about what we know at this point. When you look at the latest Court Filings, it shows the city of oakland is objecting to the submission by the doj which argues oakland shouldnt be permitted to recover lost tax revenues through antitrust laws. The doj saying tax revenues arent related to commercial interests or enterprise of the host city, oakland. The city of oakland disagrees saying this precedent would allow sports teams to reap taxpayer financed benefits but then claim immunity in situations that arent beneficial to the host cities. Oakland would like to see the federal judge in charge of this case disregard the dojs statement but if the doj succeeds, it could potentially limit recovery by the city of oakland and also potentially protect nfl teams in similar situations down the road. Now the motivations for the doj stepping in are really unclear at this point, guys. The Court Filings indicate the department stepped in last month, one day before a scheduled hearing on the nfls efforts to dismiss this case, but that federal Court Hearing is said to take place in San Francisco, it will begin at 9 00 a. Authorities hope a new set of images will help them lead them to a man wanted in a deadly shooting of a Popular High School student. Livermore Police Released more photos of the suspect. 21yearold jorge luis tejas accused of shooting and killing 16yearold manuel mosbey out in front of a taco bell. Hes been on the run since july 8th. Investigators believe the two had a past history. Livermore police are working with other agencies to try to track down the suspect. We appreciate the help weve received from the public and all the tips we get are a direct result of what we put out on social media. Family members say mosbey was an aspiring rapper and standout Football Player at livermore high school. 5 32. San mateo county deputies are mourning the death of a correctional officer who died this week while on vacation. A. J. Arquesa drowned tuesday at zephyr cove in lake tahoe. He was an iraq war veteran as well, had two children. He was just 34 years old. It is 5 33 right now. Happening today, perus former president now staring down extradition, will appear in a San Francisco courtroom. U. S. Marshals this week took Alejandro Toledo into custody. Hes tied to a massive corruption ring thats already brought down many former brazilian politicians. Peru claims he took 20 million in bribes while in office. Toledo is living in Northern California and briefly studied at stanford university. Hell be in court today asking for bail, while his extradition case plays out. What are they looking at . Reporter well, scott and laura, Transportation Leaders here are trying to find more ways to connect antioch and brentwood to make it easier for people to travel between those two cities in the east bay and Contra Costa County, and Transportation Leaders are really trying to build on the success of the recent antioch b. A. R. T. Extension. The east bay times reports the Contra Costa Transportation Authority has received a 755,000 grant for a twoyear study to look into how to improve connections to lets say the capitol corridor, ace Rail Services a long with a proposed Ferry Service between antioch and martinez. Theyre also trying to find ways to work with the existing antioch b. A. R. T. Station, and tridelta local bus service, looking at fast mini shuttles for example running in the medians or express buses. That study is set to begin this fall. The press reports the city council signing off on plans for the city to move forward with those building plans. The new station would be city own, on city owned land on grant street and empire avenue but funding to staff that station remains up in the air. Currently, all firefighters are situated in rented areas in Brentwood City Hall and outgrown that space. Peoe on the peninsula are warned about a Mountain Lion on the prowl. Belmont police say someone saw the cat near a backyard in the belburn neighborhood near the notre dame university. Coming off the 880 overcrossing the secondary plaza has slowing, indicating more folks coming out of that portion of the east bay from this area here, but on the upper east shore and the Contra Costa County approach off highway 4 and through walnut creek, everything is moving smoothly there. The rest of the bay shows a smooth, easy drive and it is typically the time we see slowing over there in san jose, but this morning, its friday, we have a smooth flow so thats the burst right now, not bad for san jose. As you make weekend plans, if youre planning to head out to the brews and blues festival in pleasant hill, youre going to see the temperatures in the low 80s there, and its going to be a very nice evening, starts to cool down right at about 7 00 into the mid70s if youre headed out of town, maybe going to lake shasta, it will be hot, reaching 93 degrees by this sunday, and it really isnt going to be all that cool, even during the overnight hours. Half moon bay will stay cool there with some low 60s for today, as well as tomorrow, into sunday, and if youre headed down to paso robles today is the high of 79 degrees. This video just in to our newsroom, showing several streets shut down in bay point. This is over on riverside drive, just north of highway 4. So far, theres not a lot of details coming in, but it does seem to be a Death Investigation. Weve reached out to Contra Costa County Sheriffs Department and were waiting to get more information. Palo alto police are searching for someone who robbed a man at gunpoint following a road rage argument on arboretum road near the Stanford Shopping Center yesterday morning. The dispute started when a man threw a cup of cold coffee into the victims car. The victim pulled into the lot of the shopping center, walked over to the mans car to confront him, thats when one driver flashed a gun. When the victim went back to the car, the gunman followed him and stole the victims phone. It is 5 44. New video going viral this morning, parents claiming they were racially profiled while visiting a nike store in santa monica. Jewell stallworth and myers dickerson paid for a basketball and while exiting the store they were approached by the manager who told them to ahead and over the stolen ball. The parents told them they paid for it and kept walking but the manager did not believe them and summoned police. Then this happened. She antagonized me. Shes disrespectful. They said you took the ball. It was eventually determined the couple had paid for the ball and later returned it for a full refund. The store manager has been fired. Continuing coverage of a highprofile case involving a bay area freelance journalist targeted in a police raid. The judge in the case says a search warrant never should have been issued. Sfpd officers raided brian carmodys home and office in may investigating the leak of a Police Report in the death of former public defender jeff adachi. Police are still trying to determine who leaked the report. The same judge who issued the warrant has now ruled police cannot use evidence collected from carmodys cell phone. Journalists and their materials like notes have special protection under the law, but the judge says police never told her carmody was a journalist when they asked her to sign the warrant. The cost to get into an apartment or a house just went up. San jose remains the most expensive place to rent nationwide. The median rental now 3,760. That is a jump of more than 4 this year. Coming off of 880 the overcrossing here is where you slow down, separated from the rest of your cash lanes, by those, they look like they are actually solid bars but they are actually flexible. Dont test them. Dont test them. Over here the fastrak and cash lanes move smoothly after an initial backup. Then they started to clear and its a nice, easy drive. No metering lights from what i can read on the chp report, and we can see there is no backup at the lanes as well. A smooth flow all the way through Contra Costa County, that includes the walnut creek interchange, that even includes antioch, rio vista bridge, coming over in toward highway 4 through pittsburg and bay point. Neil armstrong and buzz aldron placed a set of mirrors known as retro reflectors to bounce back laser light signals shot from locations on earth including the bay area. One of the first lasers to shoot at the moon was attached to the shane 120 inch telescope at the Lick Observatory atop mt. Hamilton. Scientists wanted a better understanding of the relationship with our celestial cousin it would come to that beam. Reporter during the first firing july 20th, 1969, the scientists were off target. Nasa gave them the wrong coordinates. It does depend where youre standing on the earth, and they used a catalogue coordinate for the observatory thats over in the parking lot of our visitor center.
