We know the community of Pleasant Hill will feel this loss as well. Officer tarra osullivan was asaoeupd assigned to protect a mother leaving a Domestic Violence situation. The man in the home shot the officer with a rifle. As other officers tried to reach her where she fell outside that home, the suspect fired at them for well. The Deputy Police chief praised her service. We are devastated tonight, there are no words to convey the sadness we feel for our young brave officer. The gunman finally surrendered overnight but only after an eighthour stand off. The mother and child or children were hurt. Officer osullivan grew up in Pleasant Hill. This is video of her training and she graduated from the Sacramento Police academy and was supposed to go out on her own in a matter of weeks. Reporter the assessor wants the District Attorney to rekaous himself from the case but if that happens theres a chance the state could take over his case. Kramer was the subject of of a grand jury accusation on june 5th claiming he created a hostile work environment, and that dates back to 2013. Kramer said on his website he welcomes the opportunity to confront his accusers and that three separate investigators exonerated him. Because we have that it will be a much more comfortable afternoon, making it into the upper 70s in the south bay. Well see a high of 77 in gilroy today and 79 in milpitas. Downtown san jose reaching 76 and thats going to be a very nice day to get outside and much more comfortable. Reaching 81 in pitsberg today. We will be up to 63 in the embarcadero, and the north bay up to 74 in santa rosa. The as game today will be in the low 60s, breezy and clear. Make sure you are dressed in layers because it will be a chilly one out there at the coliseum. We have the area of low pressure passing to the north. For us we have a very weak onshore flow that continues to pick up as we go throughout the day and makes it feel cooler go into the weekend. We see a shift in the winds actually blowing offshore, and so thats going to go create some hotter temperatures in the inland areas, and the gusty winds could mean higher fire danger for inland hills. Our temperatures go up, but were in the last day of spring today. Summer begins tomorrow reaching 84 degrees in the valleys and then hotter temperatures for the weekend. Plan for that, but it does cool down next week. Like you were tracking a small brushfire. I was. This morning we are hearing from the toddlers mother and said the boys survival can only be described as a miracle. She shot himself in the head with her exboyfriends gun left under the bed, and she realized it could have had a much different outcome. I was sitting there with him during the incident, before the paramedics came, and he was responsive and i said his name and he was respondisive to me. Doctors are not saying if he will walk again, but his mother believes he will beat the odds. And the former baseball player was not targeted, and the shooter claimed the shooting was orchestrated by a member of mexicos cartel. A 26yearold Sacramento Police officer shot and killed in the line of duty. An intense situation playing out for several hours with the suspect holed up in a home and firing at officers. She was responding to a domestic disturbance. Kris sanchez is in the news room with the young officers ties to the bay area. She grew up in Pleasant Hill and was just weeks away from going out on patrol on her own. She was shot outside a home in sacramento where she was protecting a mother leaving her home to leave a Domestic Violence situation. A man in the home shot the officer with a rifle. Other officers tried to reach her and other officers could not reach her for an hour. The gunman finally surrendered overnight after an eighthour stand off, and the mother and children in the home were hurt. The acting police chief and mayor said all she wanted was to help her community. The captain shared she had a bubbly personality and always wanted to help. She was committed to service, and she was in the first graduating class of a groundbreaking program at sacramento state, the Law Enforcement candidate scholars program. Officer osullivan grew up in Pleasant Hill and graduated from the Sacramento Police academy in december, and thats the same academy as davis Police Officer, nationally corona, who was killed in the line of duty in january. We have learned where officer osullivan went to high school. She went to College Park High school and graduated in 2011, and also went to Diablo College and was a Child Development major. The agency is still up and running, but if workers go on strike they have to give 72 hours notice and the state could say both sides need to have a coolingoff period and force them back to the negotiation period. The union that represents the workers for vta, and they overwhelmingly voted down the latest offer from the transit agency. They have been in negotiations with vta since august, and some of the sticking points have been wages, pensions and operational ae fi efficiencies. A controversial state bill heads to the state capitol. It will allow medical waivers for patients that dont want to vaccinate their children while cracking down on doctors that inappropriately issue them. The legislation now says it would allow for those reviews only at schools where the immunization rates are less than 95 .
