It would provide a map of the campus and help officers navigate their location. Teachers could say stable, unstable, medical only. A chat feature would allow them to go into more detail about their situation and, if possible, lead officers to the location of the shooter. The chaos erupted just as classes were about to let out at marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in parkland, florida. A former student pulled a fire alarm and then opened fire on unsuspecting students. After i started seeing people running i heard six shots, loud, loud shots, after i heard that, we have to go. A chaotic scene ensued as students were escorted from the building as frantic parents rushed to the school searching for their children. Reporter nikolas cruz was taken into custody about a mile from the school. Students who know the suspect say he was troubled and had been expelled. Hes always been a crazy kid. Today san bruno park officials will discuss shutting down at least two schools. Today in the bays pete suratos joins us live in san bruno this morning with a look at the budget shortfall. A lot of School Districts are facing these days. Good morning, pete. Reporter good morning to you, laura. It all comes down for at least san bruno Park District an issue with their budget. Theres a budget shortfall so two schools may be closed to fix some of the cost problems. Were standing in front of one of them. The other one will be el crystal elementary here in san bruno. Now the idea behind this, they feel they could save up to 300,000 per year by closing down the schools, consolidating them into new and bigger campuses. Now 250 students would be affected between the two schools so as the schools, if they were to close, theyll relocate and right now the superintendent saying they would need about 200 million for improvements to some of their buildings. Some of them around 80 and the district could sell the Vacant Properties and use that as revenue for funds for these improvements and that brings me to another proposal that theyre looking to see if the community would be interested in and that would be a Tax Initiative that could be on the ballot as early as this upcoming fall election that could help fund some of those improvements. Now this comes days after the Oak Grove School district in san jose closed. They closed three Elementary Schools but in that case it was due to declining enrollment. The district is trying to find out where impacted students will go. El crystal elementary will be the first to close down that could be as early as june. The board of trustees with the district will discuss this issue with Community Input later tonight at 7 00 p. M. Were live in san bruno, pete suratos for today in the bay.
