Clearing convictions. With marijuana legal in california, San Francisco says its getting rid of thousands of drug convictions. The District Attorney gascon says his office will dismiss 3,000 misdemeanor pot convictions dating back to 1975. Exploratory drilling is about to begin at San Franciscos troubled millennium tower. This is step one of a possible fix. Investigative reporter jackson van der becken continues his exclusive reporting on this highpriced high rise. Theres a lot of unanswered questions. Reporter thats city supervisor aaron peskin, talking about a planned 150 million fix for the 58story tilting building. Engineers hope to answer some of those questions with a Testing Program that began quietly earlier this month. These holes here on beale street are the first evidence of the work expected to take ten weeks and cost 9 million. These tubes used to protect the test holes being drilled 300 feet down to bedrock. If the results are proptsing engineers hope to drill some 100 holes, through much of the towers 10footthick reinforced concrete foundation and install socalled micro piles to shore up and anchor the building. To solid bedrock. Who will pay for that fix is still unclear. As theres a massive legal battle over the building having sunk 17 inches. The socalled micro pile strategy is not new. In fact, engineers use micro piles to shore up the mandalay bay resort in las vegas which was sinking dramatically during construction. Engineers wont just be drilling here on beale street, they want to drill through the 10footthick foundation itself. When the full job starts, drilling will go on from 7 00 a. M. To 7 00 p. M. With some weekends as well. Peskin says the test effort is a sign of progress but he wants to do make sure the city is thoroughly evaluating the planned fix. This seems to be dropping out of the heavens. And im not confident that the city has run them through a rigorous peer review boss. Precisely what was missing when we approved the tower to begin with. Winds not too gusty, 5 to 10 miles per hour. Throughout contra costa county, alameda counties, cooler by the bay. 70s from walnut creek on back toward livermore.
