It was like, if youve ever met a friend for like and had like a great moment. And you say to yourself, wow, that was so much fun. Like, that works. I think we had kind of yeah. Like an instant thing. Hoda says its like a first date. And i was like, and im easy and desperate. [ laughter ] yeah, no problem. It was it was like it just clicked, and it felt so good. Jimmy yeah, you can see it. I was like, oh, my god [ laughter ] jimmy wait a second, im sorry. Im not ann martin. I want to start over like, but you, just, you cant believe you can go from that and then you make a ton of mistakes, and then we wind up sitting here together. Jimmy yeah, its bizarre. I mean, the biggest. I mean, it doesnt get bigger than what you guys are doing. Now youre off to the olympics. Yes. Jimmy when is pyeongchang when does that start . Well, im not really sure. And i think its it goes that ryan murphy who i just see him now and then. No, hes got hes got i mean, ryan has an amazing talent to to identify stories that are both dramatically gripping, and at the same time theyre socially and culturally relevant. Jimmy yeah. And i think that is that combination where it makes, you know, the anthology of American Crime story so interesting. And the thing is that when you i mean, the underlying theme of our show that premiers tonight, or the premiered jimmy yeah, thats right, yeah, because its weird, yeah yeah. So, its homophobia. Because basically we tend to think that in the 90s, the world was just like our world today, and actually it was very different. Because when you look into this investigation, i mean, the element that comes back to the surface constantly is the dont ask, dont tell element. And this kind of like invisibility, this denial of sexuality, this denial of existence of a gay world out there. And this guy, andrew cunanan, he was on National Television for several weeks. He was, you know, on the fbis top most wanted, you know, top lethal, the most wanted people. And however it was very difficult for the authorities to catch him, because basically, he was killing gay men, and did not represent a a public threat to the authorities at the time. And to think that that was only 20 years ago, its shocking and frightening. Because history tends to repeat itself. Jimmy isnt that so its important to revisit. Yeah. Jimmy how many that is crazy when you think about it. Yeah. Jimmy because, yeah, he how many he murdered he murdered five people. So when yeah. And then when he murdered the famous one, who was the last one, who was gianni, then people started to pay attention. So in that and thats basically what drives, you know, the whole the whole series and the whole show. And we couldnt be, you know, more proud. Jimmy it is to revisit history in this way. Jimmy its amazing. And then i think that did you where did you film it . Did you film it in miami. And we filmed it at the house. Yeah. Jimmy did you really . At the house in south beach, yeah. Jimmy really . Yeah. Jimmy where the scene of the one of the scenes it was the same i mean, the same steps. Jimmy oh. It was very emotional. Jimmy oh. You know . Because those were the steps where gianni was you know, where he died. Actually, where he was dying. Because actually he was declared dead maybe 40 minutes after he got shot. Jimmy oh. So for me, it was very difficult not to think that maybe during, you know, those minutes that he was lying on those steps, he might have been i mean, he was unconscious, but maybe he was listening. He was listening to all the chaos and all the pain around him. Jimmy oh. So that haunted me for a a while. But at the same time, it was beautiful to be at the house. A house that represents his legacy. And there was a day that we were shooting four scenes at the same time. Then i looked, there wasnt a a balcony, there wasnt a room. Ricky wasnt where im shooting a scene. And then at the end we kind of, like, got together and thought, this house was built for creativity. You know . And maybe i mean, we kind of, like, rejoiced in the thought that maybe he was looking down on us and saying, well, its great that a house is now back to being creative, you know. Jimmy yeah. Yeah. Jimmy and shedding light on the legacy yeah. Jimmy of Gianni Versace. Exactly. Jimmy and how creative he was. Yeah. Jimmy it is it is gripping, it is haunting, it is welldone.
